We stopped by yesterday to pick up a few different types of fish for a barbecue, and I was so impressed by the quality, freshness, and selection. They have everything you could possibly need--an amazing variety of fresh fish and seafood, sides, seasonings and rubs, sauces, and so much more. They also have a great selection of sake, wine, beer, and other drinks. What makes this place even better is that they have a café where you can order freshly cooked fish and seafood and enjoy it right there. There are tables if you want to sit and eat, and they also make poke bowls. We tried the tuna poke bowl, and it was AMAZING--so fresh and delicious! The entire market was incredibly clean, organized, and well stocked, and you can really tell how fresh everything is. Five stars, 10/10, HIGHLY recommend King Fish! Eddie and Joe are THE best!!! if you want to be sure that your dining experience is going to be awesome and hassle-free, it'd be in your best interest to be assisted by either of these fine men if not both of 'em. Eddie is so experienced and knows the menu, food prep, galley and the best customer service techniques. There's NO chance that these guys let you go home dissatisfied. The items my family most often orders includes: salmon sandwich with fries and Cole slaw, a dozen chicken won tons, a poke bowl with the hamachi (yellow tail) and spicy tuna, a fried shrimp taco, the smoked salmon pasta, mango salsa, crab cakes, crunch fish, CA & spicy tuna rolls, oysters on a half shell, veggies and sometimes their tempura. Needless to say, when we come here as a family, we feast. Zoila was another employee we loved seeing here but more recently we learned that she retired. How exciting for her!! The tables are always clean and tidy. Their trash cans are being emptied often. Folks are typically very nice about sharing chairs or squeezing by with a high chair. I've tried a handful of poke spots in SoCal and Fish King is ranked number 1 for me at this moment. The prices are reasonable for about $17 for a poke bowl. You choose whichever poke flavor you want and it includes white rice, a scoop of seaweed salad and a scoop of krab salad. It's regular white rice, not seasoned sushi rice. I chose the Hawaii style tuna poke and as someone born and raised in Oahu, I approve! Well seasoned and the fish is cut/cubed perfectly. They have free parking. The store is pretty big. All the way to the left is pre-made sushi/grab & go meals. There is seating to enjoy your food inside. The middle of the store is to purchase seafood and/or poke by the pound. We are still big fans of the Fish King. Because we do not live close by, we don't get there as often as we'd like but do make a point to stop by if we are going to be in the general area. We take a cooler with us and are always able to get a bag of ice upon request. Since my last review, the selection of items has remained consistent. We particularly love the fresh fish, the shellfish, and the poultry. There is a great selection of Asian staples, along with a decent wine selection. There is a private parking lot but do know that at certain times of the day, it gets filled up. We were most recently there during lunch time and got in just before the rush. When we left, there were a lot of cars waiting for a space. The service is great. On our last visit, Kiwi helped us. We were getting fish, shrimp, poke, and chicken breasts. He was very friendly and very helpful. I always ask to have the full chicken breasts cut in half and get a couple to be able to freeze. When I got home, I saw that he'd butchered them perfectly. We have been coming to Fish King for probably close to 30 years now. There's no better seafood market that I know of in the area. read more

The poke bowl I got was good. A bit pricey but I think when you get poke you already know what you're getting into. Compared to other places I've gone to, it was a bit pricey for the amount and lack of options and toppings. It had great flavor, though. This was my first time going (I went on Monday before heading to school) and they had plenty of other fish items to choose from. Maybe not my first choice for poke (unless I had a craving, since this is superrr close to where I live!) but I'd come back to try other things. Fish King is an excellent place to get some fresh and delicious seafood. I've only ever ordered from their "galley", which I think is what they call their kitchen, but I know they also sell raw seafood as well, in addition to a few other things in their small market. One of my favorite things to get at Fish King is the plate with the swordfish skewers. This dish is honestly so unique, and I haven't found anything like it anywhere else. It's basically two shish-kebab style sticks of seasoned swordfish, peppers, and tomatoes, and it's served with a few sides in addition to fried veggies and shrimp. I also really enjoy their tacos. They also have very generous servings of poke (I personally don't get the poke from here because it's already mixed in with raw onions and I don't like raw onion). Prices are all very reasonable--the swordfish plate I mentioned earlier is around $15 and a pretty large amount of food. Fish King does get pretty busy especially around mealtimes so it's better to order in advance and pick up so that you don't have to wait around as long. I think if you order in person, you can expect a 20-30 min wait when it's busy. There's a small lot on the side of the market and sometimes you can find street parking too. There are some tables on both ends of the market so you can dine in, it's very casual. read more

If ever there were a more perfect fishmonger in this area, I have not found it. Fish King has been my go-to spot for seafood and poultry for years. Their selection of fresh seafood is impressive. When I go there, I know that I am getting the freshest seafood available. If it's not fresh, they won't carry it. And they are more than happy to prep your order as needed, whether deboning and filleting a fish, slicing sushi-grade fish for sashimi, or shelling oysters, they are the best. And their selection of poké is unbelievable, all freshly made and ready to go. As far as poultry, my favorite is their original teriyaki chicken skewers. They are always excellent and easy to prepare. In addition to the fresh seafood and poultry, they have a great selection of wines by the bottle, a sushi counter and a small cafe that can grill or fry and of their fish. During lunch time, the cafe is always packed with lunch goers. They also have a nice pantry of dry goods, including everything you need to make fresh sushi at home as well as bottles of sauces, boxes of pasta, and packets of seasonings. And they also have a freezer section and refrigerated section filled with goodies, some quite hard to find in Los Angeles. There are alwaysIf an ample number of staff behind the counter, no matter how busy they are. On my recent visit, there were 12 in front of me, yet I was in and out of there in about 15 minutes. I think this might be some of the best fried seafood I've had! They fried it in a way where the batter isn't greasy or soggy where it takes away from the taste and texture of the seafood itself. It was crispy and crunchy, and I think they used panko bread crumbs, which also made it flaky. We got the fried fish and shrimp, and it only comes with one fish, but it was substantial. I got the ahi tuna poke too and I thought this was alright. Though they gave a generous serving of fish, the flavor was just okay. I think it could have used more soy sauce or sesame oil. They also messed up our order on this - they mistakenly gave us octopus poke but they were very quick to correct this once we let them know. The clam chowder was also substantial. I've had a lot of clam chowders where the chunks are mostly potatoes, but this one had a good amount of chewy fish chunks. It wasn't too salty nor overly creamy as well. The poke bowl fish options aren't that great tasting. Lacks flavor. If you want good poke, I recommend checking out Jus' poke down near Redondo beach. Much better at slightly lower price point. You order by the pound, but it's a bit confusing on how much a pound is exactly (when ordering poke) because they post container sizes by half pint and pint. Keep in mind that a pint is about a pound. Fish is fresh, I suggest getting the hamachi and hawaii style poke. Parking is available, but the spots are limited and cramped.
