Fish King is an excellent place to get some fresh and delicious seafood. I've only ever ordered from their "galley", which I think is what they call their kitchen, but I know they also sell raw seafood as well, in addition to a few other things in their small market. One of my favorite things to get at Fish King is the plate with the swordfish skewers. This dish is honestly so unique, and I haven't found anything like it anywhere else. It's basically two shish-kebab style sticks of seasoned swordfish, peppers, and tomatoes, and it's served with a few sides in addition to fried veggies and shrimp. I also really enjoy their tacos. They also have very generous servings of poke (I personally don't get the poke from here because it's already mixed in with raw onions and I don't like raw onion). Prices are all very reasonable--the swordfish plate I mentioned earlier is around $15 and a pretty large amount of food. Fish King does get pretty busy especially around mealtimes so it's better to order in advance and pick up so that you don't have to wait around as long. I think if you order in person, you can expect a 20-30 min wait when it's busy. There's a small lot on the side of the market and sometimes you can find street parking too. I've tried a handful of poke spots in SoCal and Fish King is ranked number 1 for me at this moment. The prices are reasonable for about $17 for a poke bowl. You choose whichever poke flavor you want and it includes white rice, a scoop of seaweed salad and a scoop of krab salad. It's regular white rice, not seasoned sushi rice. I chose the Hawaii style tuna poke and as someone born and raised in Oahu, I approve! Well seasoned and the fish is cut/cubed perfectly. They have free parking. The store is pretty big. All the way to the left is pre-made sushi/grab & go meals. There is seating to enjoy your food inside. The middle of the store is to purchase seafood and/or poke by the pound. We are still big fans of the Fish King. Because we do not live close by, we don't get there as often as we'd like but do make a point to stop by if we are going to be in the general area. We take a cooler with us and are always able to get a bag of ice upon request. Since my last review, the selection of items has remained consistent. We particularly love the fresh fish, the shellfish, and the poultry. There is a great selection of Asian staples, along with a decent wine selection. There is a private parking lot but do know that at certain times of the day, it gets filled up. We were most recently there during lunch time and got in just before the rush. When we left, there were a lot of cars waiting for a space. The service is great. On our last visit, Kiwi helped us. We were getting fish, shrimp, poke, and chicken breasts. He was very friendly and very helpful. I always ask to have the full chicken breasts cut in half and get a couple to be able to freeze. When I got home, I saw that he'd butchered them perfectly. The poke bowl I got was good. A bit pricey but I think when you get poke you already know what you're getting into. Compared to other places I've gone to, it was a bit pricey for the amount and lack of options and toppings. It had great flavor, though. This was my first time going (I went on Monday before heading to school) and they had plenty of other fish items to choose from. Maybe not my first choice for poke (unless I had a craving, since this is superrr close to where I live!) but I'd come back to try other things. And they are more than happy to prep your order as needed, whether deboning and filleting a fish, slicing sushi-grade fish for sashimi, or shelling oysters, they are the best. And their selection of poké is unbelievable, all freshly made and ready to go. As far as poultry, my favorite is their original teriyaki chicken skewers. They are always excellent and easy to prepare. In addition to the fresh seafood and poultry, they have a great selection of wines by the bottle, a sushi counter and a small cafe that can grill or fry and of their fish. I think this might be some of the best fried seafood I've had! They fried it in a way where the batter isn't greasy or soggy where it takes away from the taste and texture of the seafood itself. It was crispy and crunchy, and I think they used panko bread crumbs, which also made it flaky. We got the fried fish and shrimp, and it only comes with one fish, but it was substantial. I got the ahi tuna poke too and I thought this was alright. Though they gave a generous serving of fish, the flavor was just okay. I think it could have used more soy sauce or sesame oil. They also messed up our order on this - they mistakenly gave us octopus poke but they were very quick to correct this once we let them know. The clam chowder was also substantial. I've had a lot of clam chowders where the chunks are mostly potatoes, but this one had a good amount of chewy fish chunks. It wasn't too salty nor overly creamy as well. I'd definitely get this again! Unfortunately, there's not a lot of seats to meet demand. The poke bowl fish options aren't that great tasting. Lacks flavor. If you want good poke, I recommend checking out Jus' poke down near Redondo beach. Much better at slightly lower price point. You order by the pound, but it's a bit confusing on how much a pound is exactly (when ordering poke) because they post container sizes by half pint and pint. We were in Glendale to attend my daughter's dance competition at the Alex Theatre and Fish King popped up in Yelp as being close by and excellent seafood. I did taste one tiny piece of the spicy scallop which was excellent. Special halibut - 5/5 for the halibut which was fresh, grilled, with a little bit of lemon butter (trying to be healthier!). Rice was 3/5 but since I'm cutting carbs the somewhat hard rice was not a deal breaker. Large portions of grilled zucchini (so healthy!) accompanied the rice and fish. After several years we finally had a chance to try this place. This store has to sections on the right side you can order the food from the menu and you can take it out or have you food in the store. And on the left side there is a huge section of the fishes and shrimps and you just name it. At the end of the left side, there is sushi section which they have plenty of sushi. The crunch fish tastes the same as when I was a kid. I will eat my leftovers straight out of the fridge cold and it still tastes amazing! The crispy zucchini tastes great with the sweet soy sauce that comes with it, but it surprisingly tastes great with the tartar sauce too. That tartar sauce is the best in the world! Do not eat the free packets. They are awful. The seasoned rice is simple. I like to add some of the sweet soy sauce on it. Technically it's their tempura sauce. Again, the people who work here aren't as friendly as they used to be. That part makes me sad. The lady the last time I was there was such a downer. Please amp up your customer service! Fish King is the best fish market I've been to in LA so far. You know you're in a good seafood place when there's absolutely NO fishy smell. The place was incredibly clean and the selection of seafood you can get here is incredible! The staff was super knowledgeable, friendly and fast too. I went the day before Christmas Eve to get squid to make calamari and boy was it busy! But the staff was working quickly to get people in and out which was much appreciated. The Dynamite Scallop Poke ($18.98 per pound) is PHENOMENAL!! I scream to the heavens in unadulterated joy as I devour these soft, fresh, caressingly flavored scallops. The price is shockingly competitive for such high-quality, delectable scallops. Then, the Salmon Poke ($29.98 per pound) is utterly delightful. The salmon easily matches sashimi taken from your typical upscale restaurant. It's fresh and simply delicious. Strangely enough, Fish King's proclaimed popular Hawaii Style Tuna Poke tasted the most generic. This tuna poke is not unique or special. It's decent tuna but not memorable. I arrived at Fish King (Glendale) on a Friday (around 10AM - opening time). I had read reviews about its long lines, so I had prepared to arrive early. Fish King (Glendale) is indeed popular! I saw a steady influx of customers. At opening time, six customers had already lined up. Thankfully, it took a few minutes for me since I arrived early on a weekday. If you want to order their famous poke (or anything from the main counter), there's an old fashioned ticket number machine. Be sure to grab a ticket! When your number is reached, they call it. Your number also appears on a small screen. Honestly, as mentioned prior, the poke is truly wondrous and delectable. My primary reason for visiting Fish King (Glendale) was to find a good clam chowder, but I am extremely happy with my decision to try the poke. Later, I ordered the Clam Chowder (Bowl - $7.98). The Clam Chowder is solid. The Clam Chowder contained well-cooked ingredients. The chowder's potatoes are cooked perfectly; its soft and fresh. The clams are very fresh and cooked well; they're tender, fresh clams and not grainy nor rubbery. The chowder's creamy broth had a nice consistency, not too thin nor too thick. The Clam Chowder had very little seasoning, but there's a salt and pepper station nearby if you want to adjust it. I appreciated the soup, so I ordered an additional quart for to-go. Regarding service, it's mixed. The first staff member that helped me (receipt says Brandon) is absolutely welcoming, helpful, and professional. He quickly assisted me when I asked for 1/2 a pound of each Poke. He also worked fast and efficiently when assisting me at the counter. The second staff member that assisted me (receipt says Zoila) felt unprofessional and bitter. For example, as the line began to grow in the Galley, Zoila kept chatting to a customer instead of taking additional orders. We quietly listened to Zoila ignoring the other customers, so she could chat about quitting/leaving Fish King for about three and more minutes. Later, I observed Zoila giving terse, snappy information to other customers that asked her genuine ordering questions. Regardless, Brandon did a wonderful job! He's definitely a helpful, excellent staff member. On ambiance, Fish King (Glendale) is very clean and well-ventilated. If there's music, it's very quiet. However, Fish King (Glendale) felt more like an old fashioned market than an eatery. There are two sections for dining-in (sushi area and gallery area). This location also includes a restroom. Unfortunately, parking is tough. It has a limited tight private parking lot. Overall, Fish King (Glendale) is a memorable, delicious experience. The shop doubles as both a fish market and a hot foot food market. As a fish market, Fish King's name says it all with a wide array of favorites such as Tuna, Salmon, Branzino, Shrimp, Scallop, Muscles, etc. They also have some special stuff here and there as well. They offer cleaning services, fileting services and more. The staff is incredibly warm and ask specific questions as well that shows their experience handling fish as well as making sure everything is to your specification. The Galley or the hot food section, is amazing as well. From offering different options from the popular Crunch Fish, to Poke Bowls, and to Sushirittos. The options are immense. Take a second to take it in ask it really reminded me of being in a true seafood market. With different options taken from the market itself, there is plenty to try. Here are some of my suggestions: The Combos are amazing, served with both Shrimp and Vegetable fry, coleslaw, and rice, it is a perfect lunch or dinner item. One my favorites, is the Clam Chowder. Yes, I will get this often when I feel the chowder urges surge. You can also get freshly made Poke, and it is so fresh and delicious. Overall, Fish King is somewhere I not only frequent, but I stand by. From getting my fresh poke, to sashimi, fish for sushi, or even getting lunch or dinner, Fish King is something I'd consider to visit daily if not weekly.
