We were seated immediately and we had an amazing server named Codi! This guy was amazing from the time he greeted us at our table until we paid for our food. I will definitely be back. Today was our first time to eat at First Watch, and it will definitely not be our last! FANTASTIC FLAVORS, friendly wait staff, nice atmosphere, and reasonable prices! The million Dollar Bacon is well-named - BEST BACON I HAVE EVER HAD! The multi-grain pancakes were HUGE and fluffy! Trust me, just order one - it is the equivalent of two at any other restaurant. The wholesome, local, organic, nutritional values of First Watch set it above most other restaurants which serve breakfast in Richmond. If you are a breakfast fan, than this is the place for you! Extensive menu options from eggs and toast to all sorts of omelettes. I am a fan of the skillet hash (especially the meat-free, market), and also the Salmon Eggs Benedict. And if by chance you want lunch, they do have multiple options for you as well. We have been to First Watch a few times. First when it opened, it was actually very good. The food was great, served promptly. The last couple times, the food was ok, I have had the egg Benedict a few times and it seems it is getting worst each time. The last time, I had to actually send my plate back as the eggs Benedict were cold. It seems they are really busy, which is great, but they can't seem to follow the number of dishes ordered thus cold food coming to the table. Hope they resolve the issue. read more

Ahh first watch, where do I begin? As I entered this establishment I was greeted by a charming British fellow with a ginger beard. He was very nice and suggested that the wait was well worth it because the food here is exceptional. Boy was he right. Atmosphere: the establishment was decorated with muted tones of green and blue creating a very appealing space. The seating was comfy and contained wooden elements to give the place a nice raw feeling. The kitchen was open and visible to the dining area, so you could see the cooks joyously prepare the food. Most notably, there was a tall African-American man with a bright smile. Service: the service was friendly and speedy. I don't know the name of our sever but she looks as if her name would be Layla. Layla quickly made sure we had coffee and placed our orders in the kitchen in an expedient manner. Not only did our server check on us, but the aforementioned ginger fellow also brought us syrup upon request with a smile as he went back to seat others Food: I selected the farmhouse breakfast tacos which were delicious and presented neatly on of those cool little metal taco holders. My friends food also came out with very appealing displays. All the food options were very healthy and made with lean, clean, fresh ingredients. Honestly all the descriptions made everything seem pretty fire son. HOWEVER, they do not serve mimosas here. I can't even fathom how a place can call themselves a brunch establishment and not serve the delicious elixir of champagne and OJ, hold the Simpson #HeDidntDoIt. I mean seriously I came here on Memorial Day, and nothing would have been more Memorial like than pounding some drinks after a toast to the good ole boys who didn't make it home. My husband is going to kill me for giving First Watch three stars instead of 5 (it's his FAVORITE) breakfast spot-but I'm on the fence about this place. We've been enough times for my husband to try all of the pancake flavors, all of which he has enjoyed, but I have yet to find that one thing on their menu that I really like. Nothing has been BAD but nothing has blown me away either. When I really can't decide I usually go with the biscuits and turkey gravy which is, again, not life changing but is definitely edible, though the consistency can border on watery on a bad day. The one area I would say blatantly struggles is the wait staff. We have yet to eat a meal here where the waiter/waitress has brought all of the components of my order without being reminded. Our last visit our waitress forgot my grits and I waited almost fifteen minutes for her to come back over to check on us before I could ask for them, at which point I wanted to just tell her to forget it because I was done eating. We've received bacon that was so hammered it was inedible and had to be sent back; it never should have made it to the table. I was shocked that our server would see that when they went to bring it to the table and think that it was okay to serve. The wait staff seems as ambivalent about their jobs as I am about their food. The front staff however is amazing; there is a man (I forget his name!) that is usually behind the counter that is super friendly and welcoming and is sometimes the highlight of the meal. My last and largest complaint with FirstWatch is that they are ALWAYS slammed. Doesn't matter what time of day or which day of the week you go, you will have to wait. I highly recommend downloading the app and checking in online because if you just walk in you're screwed. The entrance is right near the cash/check in desk and the line waiting for tables and to check in with the host gets jammed in with people trying to pay their check and the entrance turns into a mob scene you have to push your way through. Your waiter brings you a check and you pay up front; perhaps adding check out registers near the kitchen and having your server take your card like "traditional" restaurants would alleviate some of the chaos up front and make more room for people waiting for a table. I'm sure I'll be back, but I'm not sure I'm really that excited about it. read more

After numerous times of heading to First Watch & it being slammed, we made it a very late breakfast. Actually, my wife had their Cobb salad. I had a Delish mushroom/arugula Frittata. I have no question it's the best Frittata in RVA land. Yum, yum, yum. The restaurant serves breakfast, brunch & lunch. It closes mid-afternoon, 2:30. A great place for early birds. Totally get Mothers Day is a busy day. Put in a to-go order with a time to pick up at 11:15. Got an email confirmation at 9:53 that the order was received. Stop in to pick my order and they tell me they just got it. I show them the confirmation email and then they tell me "maybe we got it earlier?" Waited for 45 mins past the pick up time. Simple process...do not take online orders if you can not fill them. read more

First Watch was a step above your typical diner decor. The food presentation was nice, the coffee was fabulous, our server was friendly and tentative. My main problem was I asked to swap out the cheese in my omelette, I am not a goat cheese fan. The server said that was not a problem, I saw her write it on the ticket. Unfortunately the omelette had the goat cheese and the cheese I asked for. I did not send it back, even though I should have. My son had the Trifecta and he said it was very good! As another Yelper stayed they can't handle their popularity. We arrived and waited about 10 minutes to be seated. Our server was super nice but kept bringing us the WRONG food. We kept asking for what we ordered and either he didn't put the order in correctly or the kitchen missed it because we had to wait another 40 minutes for our food. After all that waiting the food was mediocre. We spoke with the manager about our experience and he basically told us to not come on the weekends in order to have a more pleasant experience. Our server, Stone, was a charming young man who was great answering our many questions. I had the omelette with the most meat in it called "The Works". It was cooked nearly perfect and was very tasty. My wife had the traditional breakfast with scrambled eggs. The eggs were fluffy and NOT over cooked as they can be sometimes in restaurants. We were there on a Tuesday morning. Place looked busy but we got a seat immediately and once we placed our order the food came out within 10 minutes. We love it. We've been coming here since it opened, when I was very pregnant and constantly craving pancakes. The food is good quality, the menu a nice modern twist on traditional breakfast. It's very family friendly. We bring our now 9 month old son all the time and everyone is nice to him. Considering how constantly busy they are, we've found the service to be generally very good. It can be chaotic if you come around 11, but since we have a baby we're usually in around 8 or 9. You can get on the wait list ahead of time using the yelp app. I've never found the poached eggs to be great, but we love sharing a banana granola pancake. Came in on a wim today to try out a nice new breakfast place. We were greeted by such a nice server, named John, who got us drinks literally seconds after we sat down. The menu has so many amazing options that include some gluten free and veggie options which was great! The coffee tasted super fresh and they bring you a coffee pot and a water glass so you can refill your own beverages. When we got our food, it looked super fresh and well made. The portions were perfect for a breakfast and the food was so amazing.On top of the amazing food and great customer service, the environment was so relaxing and friendly and the bathrooms were super clean! My only gripe is that almost everytime I've ordered eggs in any capacity they are either over cooked or severely undercooked to the point where we have to send them back (which I hate doing). Everything else is spot on and delicious. The morning meditation drink is the best! Service is great, especially for how busy they are all the time. Placed an online breakfast order for pickup, and when I got the order the eggs were not well cooked and the some of the potatoes empowered not fully cooked. When I mentioned these things when I called to report it, I didn't get any response at all which was extremely rude ... no apology or anything at all!
