I've tried a lot of their menu, and I honestly can't recall a dish I didn't enjoy. On top of the food, I always have a great experience here. I usually sit at the bar (and hope Katie or Amy are bartending) - it's always a good time. The bar is typically lively, especially on weekends, which makes for a fun atmosphere. I also appreciate that the bar tables are first come, first served. Lately, I've been getting the trio medallions with mashed potatoes and broccoli, chefs kiss! So good every time. The wine of the month right now is a Cab Franc, which I personally enjoyed. Looking forward to my next visit, as always.

There were only a few items to choose from. However, they do allow you to order off of the regular menus as well. The Smoked Brisket Hash with Peppers, Caramelized Onions, Potatoes, Fontina, Aged Cheddar, Chipotle Crema, Sunny Side Eggs and Chives was also delicious. Our friend also really loved the Smoked Salmon Toast Feta Cream, Red Onion, Crispy Capers, Lemon Conserva and Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Our server, Julia was on top of it with service and Tomika in the tasting room is a rock star! Everytime we think about cancelling our membership Cooper's Hawk keeps giving us reasons to return.

It was a random find for us but we cannot wait to go back already. The reasons are: They offer Hawaiian dishes that cannot be found elsewhere. It was my first time coming across Loco Moco in Indy, and I was pleasantly surprised. It came with two eggs, and good amount of rice. It was very satisfying. Service was friendly and attentive. Our server did everything so perfectly. He got us refilled before we asked and boxed my food I couldn't finish. Very efficient. The Hawaiian decor inside was cute.

Great atmosphere, service that stayed attentive across the whole table all night, and a room that made a work dinner feel like an actual night out. No small thing for a group that size. I ordered the Chipotle Chicken Quesadilla with fresh salsa and guacamole. Everything tasted like it was made that day. The quesadilla was crispy, well filled, and gone faster than I planned. The DT Old Fashioned was well built and needed no explanation. Both did their jobs. Gratuity was already added for the group, which is fair. The check split individually without drama. Fifteen people, zero chaos. The Force was clearly with the staff that evening. Five stars. Good food, good service, good night.

We asked 7-8 different staff members for help, and each time we were told they would "figure it out," but no one ever followed through. We eventually spoke with the manager, who was able to put the game on for us. However, after we had already spent over $100 on food and drinks and had been sitting at our table for a few hours, he switched the game to something else for another group who had not even purchased anything. When we asked him to switch it back, he refused. We tried to find the manager again after this interaction, but he continued sending other staff members to our table instead of speaking with us directly. Unfortunately, none of them were able to help. We waited approximately 30 minutes before someone finally came over and was able to get the game back on. What made this experience especially frustrating is that this is a sports bar with a large number of TVs, and we were simply asking to watch a game while actively spending money at the establishment. It was incredibly disappointing to feel ignored and unimportant after repeatedly asking for help. If you're not a Colts or Bears fan, I would absolutely not recommend this location for game day unless you're prepared to feel invisible and undervalued as a customer. Our server was wonderful, but the way the management and other staff handled this situation completely overshadowed the positive parts of our experience.

My spouse had a short stack of pancakes, which she liked. The food also came out hot, which is so important for breakfast food. Kudos on that! I only gave four stars, however, because the shortage of staff on the Saturday noon we ate was evident and really degraded the whole experience. When we arrived there were dirty dishes stacked on every empty table in the restaurant. The employees did their best to be friendly but it was clear they were harassed, and the service was incredibly slow. I would estimate that it took about 25 minutes (maybe 30) from the time we ordered until we got our food. During that time we weren't offered a coffee refill until the food arrived, and the water we asked for didn't arrive until our food did. We didn't even see our waitress for about 20 minutes, and this isn't a big restaurant. I realize that every restaurant struggles to find enough employees in the current environment. Maybe we just need to eat out less and cook at home more. But it's hard when you're traveling, as we are. This restaurant has the food down, but the service is a problem, or at least it was today. I remember eating at LePeep in Castleton 30 years ago and it was fabulous. But you can't do it without workers.

I always order the Cuban when a new restaurant has one on the menu, and Big Lug's did not disappoint. It was juicy, flavorful, and one of the better Cubans I've had in a while. On my second visit, I went with the blackened cod tacos on corn tortillas (you can also get flour tortillas, and they offer shrimp and breaded fish options). They were fresh, perfectly seasoned, and absolutely delicious. Both visits I ordered the spicy garlic cauliflower, and it was outstanding. The homemade blue cheese dressing took it to another level. If you're on the fence about ordering it, don't be--it was one of my favorite things on the menu. The outdoor walk-up bar creates a really cool, laid-back atmosphere, making it a great place to relax whether you're meeting friends or just enjoying a meal by yourself. The staff was friendly, the service was excellent, and both meals came out quickly. I don't usually eat at the same restaurant twice on a trip, but Big Lug earned it. If I'm back in the area, it'll definitely be on my list again.

Big Lug is a very cool spot right off the Monon, and even better if you have a pooch with you!…read moreUnfortunately, our experience with the service was pretty disappointing. We sat right in the middle of the main thoroughfare and were completely ignored for at least 15 minutes before we finally flagged someone down. The guy, "H," apologized and said, "Oh, my bad--it's all good." We figured, no big deal, let's move on. We ordered pretty simple food, apps and were then going to put in some entrees once apps arrived. We asked for waters and a water bowl for our pups. He brought two waters--with no straws--and no dog bowl. We assumed he was going to grab the bowl, so we waited... and waited. Then I noticed him at the end of the bar leaning against some boxes, texting. So I finally got up, interrupted him and asked for the dog bowl. His response, "oh my bad." Our appetizers came out, and naturally, we asked for silverware. A few minutes later, I spotted "H" in the corner on his phone again. At that point I was thinking, seriously?! So I got up again, interrupted "H's" text convo and asked for silverware. His response again was, "Oh, my bad." I didn't respond to him I just turned around and went back to my seat. Honestly, the whole experience started feeling more like a self-serve restaurant than table service. It's a chill spot and we weren't being needy whatsoever. We never asked for any refills- we were merely asking for the basics. We wanted to order more food, but by that point we were pretty turned off and decided to just get the check. Then came the final straw: my guy had his license and credit card sitting on the table because he hadn't brought his wallet out for our monon trek. When "H" came back with the checkout thing, without question or hesitation - he grabbed the card and swiped it. We didn't even realize what happened until afterward. Maybe that's standard there, but I've never had a server just take my card without asking. Usually you get a "hey do we want to use this card? Or something to confirm. And of course the tip structure is skewed so the min is 20% unless you want to try to figure out to manually enter in 15% (which most ppl don't -incl my guy), so we left 20% and left irritated and still hungry. "H" didn't seem hungover or anything--he just genuinely seemed like he did not not give a shiiiit. We had to get up three separate times to get things we had already requested: the dog bowl, a couple straws, and silverware. (Basics) And a quick note on the 7-Layer Hoss Dip: don't expect seven layers. It comes in a small thick ceramic bowl and was basically beans, guacamole, a tiny bit of corn and some hard cheese on top. Definitely would not recommend it. Way too "beany" and not worth $16 at all. The southwest rolls were decent- very fried tho. Cheesecake Factory's are better ;) The location and dog-friendly atmosphere are great, with the exception of the homeless camp right at their patio entrance, but unfortunately, the service really took away from the experience. Hopefully this was just an off night, because Big Lug has a lot going for it.
