Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and going out for breakfast is one of my favorite things. First Watch is one of the best breakfast places I've been to. It has nice cheery decor and each table is already decked out with all the condiments and extras you could possibly want with your meal: little jellies, lots of sugar (including the full spectrum of sweeteners), a variety of coffee creamers, ketchup, and hot sauce. After one glance at our table I knew I wouldn't have to ask the waiter for anything. The menu has every traditional breakfast item you could want. I started off with coffee and I was quite pleased when they left the full pot of coffee on our table for self refills. Sometimes we just need to face it & be real. I just paid $10 for the 'traditional breakfast' which includes two eggs / four pieces of bacon /an English muffin and some diced fruit. A little bit overpriced I would say. Was it good? Well yeah... but it's pretty hard to ruin scrambled eggs with bacon. Nice friendly servers in a yuppity atmosphere. Enjoy! This place was recommended as a breakfast spot to hit before we left town and it was wonderful. Apparently it's a chain, but it was new to me, and they have a wonderful selection of breakfast items. They have more of a hometown restaurant feel compared to a Bob Evans. i ordered the chickichanga and thought it was very tasty, if you can handle a Mexican tasting breakfast. Don't look at the nutritional facts on this thing...according to their web site.... Total Fat 74 g 114% Saturated Fat 34 g 170% Cholesterol 601 mg 200% Sodium 1311 mg 55% Goo! Can that be right? Wow. The have a great variety of both breakfast and lunch items able to please anyone from the health nut to the hearty binge eater. The service is great and super fast. The only drawback this place would have is it's small venue and large demand, meaning you're likely to be waiting for a seat just about anytime. Heard some good things about this place. So decided to go for brunch last weekend. As expected it was pretty busy. We had to wait around 40 mins to get a table. I would be ok with that if the food tasted really good. I got 'Shrimp and grits' which was new on their menu. Although it looked good aesthetically, the taste was pretty bland. I had a Belgian waffle which was pretty good. My friend got some regular breakfast (eggs, pancakes, sausage) which was ok. Honestly I felt this place is little overrated. The taste of the food wasn't out of the box. I had much better breakfast compared to this one. I wouldn't say I won't visit this place again. This is a chain restaurant, but I just went for the first time when my boyfriend was in town. I like their hours and it did not take long at all to seat us. This is like a nice version of Denny's. They have typical breakfast options, but everything we tried was amazing. I do love that they have healthy options and a gluten free guide to their menu! I believe they also have a pretty decent juice menu. We just had coffee and hot chocolate. If you love hot chocolate! Wow, this one came with so much whipped cream; it was wonderful. The waiter was very friendly and we got all of our food pretty quickly. They also had an old milk jug type glass for us to refill our water with on our table. Also, the servings are generous. You will not leave hungry. This one at Rookwood has plenty of parking since it's in the Rookwood shopping center. I tried the Via Veneto omelette- Italian sausage, roasted tomatoes and red peppers with fresh herbs, mozzarella and Parmesan. The Italian sausage was good and chopping to appropriate size. My boyfriend had also never been to Cincinnati before so we tried goetta! It was cooked properly and he is now a fan! Would definitely go back for breakfast/brunch and maybe even lunch too! "THIS. IS. BRUNCH" - 300 This really is brunch though! I had the Benedict Arnold Eggs a classic brunch favorite. The Holiday sauce was delicious and nutritious (at least that's what our food handler said to me and Sal after we devoured a bread roll basket. Very tasty buttered bread biscuits and rolls on the side with my meal, impressed! Sally got the Hidden Valley Coyote Ranch Horseradish Poppers and a nice medium well egg and a hash brown biscuit bowl on the side for our friend who was too hung over from last week still to come back for seconds! Loved the mimosas and sweet & salty kale shakes, had a sip of both but I mostly just loved and still love their house roasted black bean coffee. Coffee beans of course! I heard they have a black bean healthy menu egg white West World omletee but I'm not a big health food guy when I want brunch I want brunch! So I have to be honest. I've been coming to First Watch most of my life, but recently it felt very same/same and I hadn't been in probably almost a year. However, when the brunch spot we had picked out was closed for the holiday my BF and I found ourselves at First Watch this weekend. They have completely remodeled not only the building but their menu! I was shocked. It was like walking into a whole new restaurant. The decor is now what I would call "Country Chic." Lots of exposed wood and neutral colors. It feels a lot more sophisticated and refined. It's the menu that really blew me away though! They are using more healthy ingredient. As someone who doesn't eat pork or beef they have A LOT more options that I can eat now. That being said I was happy to see my old favorite The Trifecta is still on the menu as well as the amazing banana granola pancake. I decided to go for something new to me and got one of those country hash dishes. It was great and came with a delicious piece of multigrain toast and a little cup of fruit. With these new changes I will definitely be adding First Watch back into my brunch rotation! Bravo! read more

One of my biggest fears when I moved to Cincinnati from NYC, where weekend brunch is almost like a religious ritual, was that there wouldn't be any places that could satisfy my craving for bacon, coffee, and breakfast carbs on a given Saturday afternoon. Yeah, yeah, yeah, the parfait, berry fruit salad, and granola here are well known and delicious. But guys, come on, baaaaaaaaaaacon! When I come here, I get the Bacon and Onion hash. Because there's so. much. bacon. It's crumbled, but it's goooooooood. I've never complained about the food here (pancakes here are good too), nor the friendly service. During my dining experience this past weekend I was fairly disappointed. Everything seemed to be going okay as we got seated, but after being seated, our service got progressively worse. Our small party's food was brought to our table by what I'm assuming was a runner and our server did not come back until everyone's food was gone. In addition to that, I realized I never got a juice I had ordered prior to placing our food orders. Looking around, the restaurant was busy, but not overwhelmingly so to a point that I would understand why the server had only visited our table 2x from being seated to dropping the check. My sister, a manager at a highly rated Cincinnati restaurant chain, politely asked if I could get my drink to go as well as request that the drink be removed from the check since it was not provided at all, was still on the check, and the 3 of us had all finished eating. The server told us that would not be a problem and she would quickly fulfill the request. Nearly 10 minutes later she dropped the same unadjusted check and the to go drink. Overall, the experience was not horrible, but as I noted disappointing due to shoddy service, promises of correcting the mistake in a small yet meaningful way, and staff disregarding the agreed upon amendment to correct mistakes. read more

I'll start off saying that I'm not usually a breakfast person- but First Watch makes me excited for breakfast, brunch and lunch, and if they were open all day, I would even have brinner there. I met my friend on our lunch hours on Friday. I was worried that it would be busy, so we met at 11:30. We had no trouble being seated right away. This place can get pretty busy because they are known for their great, fresh and healthy food, so we were excited to place our order. I was channeling breakfast and carbs, so I ordered the bacon and cheddar pancakes with a side of goetta. My friend ordered the strawberry salad and turkey sandwich. They allow you to do half a salad and half a sandwich off of a certain menu, much like Panera. The food came out quickly, our drinks were always full and we were in heaven. My pancakes were fluffy and the bacon crispy little surprises in the pancakes. The goetta was cooked thin and crispy, just how Grandma used to make it. The food was flavorful and just what we wanted. I love breakfast! Breakfast for lunch! Breakfast for dinner! And of course...breakfast for breakfast. I also love restaurants that don't pretend to be anything more than what it is. And that's just the kind of place that First Watch is. First Watch is one of those chains that doesn't really feel or look like a chain. It kind of has that greasy spoon feel to it, but without all the health code violations. The inside is always clean and well kept. It really does a pretty good job of making you think you're in a family-owned business. First Watch is unique in that they're only open from 7:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. And while they do have a lunch menu, they're known for breakfast and brunch. And rightfully so, as they do both quite well. I've stopped in a few times and have always gone with the breakfast. Because let's be honest, breakfast is good any time of the day. Every once in awhile I'll get the pancakes or French toast, but I'm more of an omelet kind of guy. I'd suggest the Bacado, Killer Cajun, Far West (without the ham), and The Works (again without the ham). If you want to try sides, you can't go wrong with the bacon, sausage or toast. On the brunch side of things I've only tried the Chickichanga, but that was pretty good. I've never had anything from just the lunch menu. The ingredients are fresh (which you can tell) and the service has always been top notch. The only downer is its success. First Watch is an extremely popular place and is often very crowded. Waits for a table can take awhile and even though the food is good, waiting is always irritating. Another bummer is the limited hours of operation. This is essentially a burrito stuffed with whipped eggs, chicken, chorizo, green chilies, Monterey jack, cheddar, onions, avocado, and a Vera Cruz sauce with a dollop of sour cream. My new favorite thing has been to go out to breakfast/ brunch. It's like going out to dinner, but for night shift! I have been to the First Watch by the Dayton Mall many times before, but decided to check the Rookwood location out after an early morning meeting at work. This is certainly the place to be for business professionals to have morning meetings. I felt a bit out of place in my jeans and snow boots! I finally decided to order the tri-athlete omelette. It included a fruit cup, english muffin, and omelette with mushrooms, chilis, tomatoes, and fresh salsa on the side. This omelette automatically came with egg whites, but you are able to request any omelette with only egg whites or egg beaters. I enjoyed the omelette, but the fruit was a out of season and was crunchy and hard. The inside is always nice and tidy, and the service fast and efficient, but don't expect too much more. I so wish for half stars! This would be one of those 3.5 star places, but I decided on 3 because when I compared this to other brunching options, it just didn't compare. read more

Had good reviews so we decided to try it out. There was a long wait...I wanna say like 45-60 minute wait but the host suggested we sat @ the "bar" since it was just the two of us. The rest of my group had omelets and French toast, and there were rave reviews all around. Service: Meh. I know it was insane, but our waiter didn't even really try to be friendly. We saw him once to take our order, and someone else gave us our check. As other reviews have noted, if you come and run into a long wait, hit up Joseph Beth next door. I've lived in Hyde Park for the past 3 years and have repeatedly passed by First Watch thinking "I really should try this place" each and every time. It was only after finding out that Hang Over Easy had a 40 minute wait that I finally decided to try this place. Upon entering, the restaurant looks very casual. It looks like your regular breakfast restaurant chains like IHOP or Denny's. The restaurant was busy and filled with customers but there was a greeter to help us seat ourselves immediately. Our server was pleasant and very attentive. On to the food! I ordered the Trifecta which includes two eggs, a choice of meat (bacon, ham, or sausage), and a choice of either a Belgian waffle or a multigrain pankcake. My boyfriend had the Chickechanga which is essentially a burrito with chorizo sausage, spicy chicken, avocado, cheese, and an assortment of vegetables. My entree was just plain average. The eggs were cooked nicely and the pancakes were good. The portion was perfect to comfortably fill me up - I wasn't left wanting more and I wasn't guiltily stuffing my face in an effort not to waste food! The Chickechanga was also average. First Watch is a chain with delicious, fresh breakfast and brunch. They offer all the standard fare, with some unique and seasonal specials for those feeling adventurous. The Hyde Park location, in the Rookwood Pavilion, is as nice as any of their locations, with fast service, oriented to getting you fed and off to work. The only weird thing about First Watch is that they don't open until 7AM-- hardly the "first" watch for most breakfast-goers. read more

The Hyde Park location of this breakfast all day (and other stuff too) chain gets unbelievably crowded on weekends around brunch time, but they handle it well and you can always peruse the next door sale shelves at Joseph Beth while you wait. The weekday experience is much more laid back if you have that option, but once you're seated, service is quick and efficient on any day. Menus are the same across all First Watches, but I will say that the blueberry pancake I had on my last visit here wasn't quite as good as one I had at the Crestview Hills location recently. I've had good experiences with my other standard here though: the Turkey Dill Crepe Egg. I generally like First Watch. When my wife started weight watchers, we stopped going there because everything they have is high-calorie, which is probably why it's so delicious! They have a special called the "gravy train" which involves a ridiculously large omelette covered in sausage gravy, which is delicious. Would have been a heartfelt 5 star review before the remodel. The place looks better, but they started using subpar ingredients. They also changed the menu; unfortunately when they did that, they removed both mine and my boyfriend's favorite dishes. Obviously I realize this wasn't a personal slight, but the fact is that I can no longer get what I like, and what I can get is of significantly lower quality.
