I was in the area in the morning to grab some items at the nearby TJ Maxx. I like the First Watch near my home, so I figured, why not? I could use a bite. They were quite busy, as it seemed several folks were there for Christmas gatherings. However, I was told the wait would be about 25 min, so I stayed. The waiting area is definitely smaller than the one near home, so that was a little uncomfortable. People going in and out of the door, bringing the frigid air from outside was something I could have done without. We were sat around the estimated timeframe. So, yay for that! Our server was upbeat and prompt. She kept our drinks refilled and brought the extra butter for my grits without a reminder. Food was perfect and order correct. Came here with the family for brunch as we completed move in to Xavier University. The place was packed and we were told they would text us once a table was ready. After about 30 minutes no text so I went inside and we were seated immediately....I guess text didn't work?? The food was amazing. Love First Watch!! Alma was our server yesterday, and she was great! Personable, efficient, all-around nice :). I usually go with the trifecta, choosing a multigrain pancake with poached eggs and bacon. Added a side of potatoes too. Yum!! I love skipping the syrup and putting the eggs right on top of my pancake or waffle, and using the runny yolk to moisten the pancake. Four slices of bacon! Wow! I shared them with my hubby. Me and hubby were in as a party of two this morning. We were able to get sat right away around 9am on a Saturday--lucky! The service was fast and friendly, the food was well-made, and the bathrooms were clean. I tried the shishito brisket hash off the seasonal menu. I got mine with scrambled egg whites. It was okay but I wouldn't get it again. There are items on the regular menu that I enjoy more. We learned something new about using bonus gift cards (you know the ones you get for free, like you buy a $50 gc and they give you an extra $10 one you can use at some set period in the future). It's all or nothing with those. Our total was around $34 and we had four $10 bonus cards. Well, apparently they cannot leave money on those cards. So we could not spend just a portion of it. We ended up using three of the cards and paying the remaining balance out of pocket. Otherwise we would have just given up the extra $6 on that last card. read more

I was dining with a party of 6 at 9am on a Sunday, which I know tends to be a busy time for breakfast restaurants. I did the "get in line" option online and we were seated right away. This granola was the best I've ever had. I loved the vegan friendly options. The server was kind at first but she kind of got an attitude after someone at my table asked her to remake a dish, the waiter also forgot a few items such as the almost toast originally. Minor changes, no reason to stop going to first watch but it should be noted that the servers make a difference in the experience. Our normal greasy spoon was closed today so we opted for somewhere else, that being F.W. I was hesitant as I feel like breakfast should be simple and cheap. That's just me. F.W has many menu items and has a good selection of low carb "healthier" options. I had an omelette and bacon. I was impressed as it was good portioned and flavorful. The only disappointment was with their iced coffee options. I passed as theirs packs a lot of sugar. For a breakfast joint they should explore more coffee options, just my two cents. This is the second First Watch I have been to. Glad to try another one and see what they had to offer. My friend had the Hacienda Hash, which I have to say was excellent. I'll talk more about that in a bit. I have the Barbacoa Quesadilla Benedict. It was good but I feel like it could have used more flavor. It was just missing something that could have given it a bit more zest. But it was still good. However my friend's Hacienda Hash was excellent! Full of good flavor, little bit of Zing, and definitely something that I wish I would have had instead. Our service was good and our waitress was very attentive. They were busy but things were moving smoothly. I appreciate how she came to check on us and make sure we were good to go. I feel like you could do pretty good by trying out some of their regular stuff. But when it comes to their specials, it can be a little bit uneven. I've been to quite a few First Watch restaurants both in Ohio and in Florida and I have to say, they never disappoint and this recent visit to the First Watch on Madison Road was no exception. We had a party of two on a Saturday during lunch. I had the Brooklyn Breakfast Sandy which is on the seasonal menu. The sandwich has a nice amount of shaved pastrami with an egg over easy, caramelized onions, arugula in between two fresh, soft, sesame seed studded brioche buns. As soon as you cut in it, the yolk drips. It was a bit of a messy situation, but, it's the kind of messy that I like! The sandwich was so good that I may have to go get another one before it's off the menu:-) My friend got the Baja turkey burger which is a delicious go to when trying to stay healthy and enjoy life at the same time :-) The service was friendly. Dropped in for lunch on a Saturday in the summer and ordered off their summer special menu. We split their Shisito Brisket Hash, Lemon Blueberry Cornbread, and Veg Omelet. Everything was tasty! Shisito Brisket Hash was savory and filling - not spicy in case you're not familiar with shisito peppers. My favorite was the cornbread! It came with a scoop of lemon butter which added a nice fresh citrusy flavor to each bite. Big fan of First Watch for brunch! First Watch is quite popular but rarely do I understand why. The service is always great and the ambiance is okay, if you try to go when they aren't super busy. If I go, I try to go during the week because they are usually packed on the weekend. For me, I guess they just don't have enough food options and are a bit pricey for what they have to offer. On the weekend, I always feel rushed because of how packed they are. If you follow my reviews, you know that I'm not crazy about chain restaurants. This is no exception. They have fast, fool-proof methods of creating food but I think Fist Watch puts in extra effort to make you think it is fresher than it really is. The time and there care just isn't there for me. However, I have people in my life that love it so I'll probably be stuck to continue visiting, until I suggest something new that is received well. read more

The plating for the food was great and it came out rather quickly. It was a bit average in terms of taste, but we didn't order anything too special. We will definitely be back to try their Chickichanga and other unique items as we think those might be better. With breakfast focused restaurants, I do always look for good coffee. Unfortunately, this coffee was pretty standard, though they did give us our own pot, which was very nice! In terms of price, I think if we went to just mum and pop diner we would have found a similar taste for these items and larger portions, but the atmosphere and helpfulness of the waitress definitely made the price worth it to us. One thing that did bother me a bit was, I saw one cook in the kitchen not wearing a mask. Now, I don't work in a kitchen, but I can assume that it must be rather hot back there especially if you are working over a hot stove/griddle, but this did alarm me as I would have liked to see all kitchen staff wearing masks when I walked by. Overall, thank you, First Watch for your great service and lovely atmosphere. We've come to this location quite frequently throughout the years. It serves as place to meet friends from out of town or as Sunday brunch with family. Although I warn you to be careful on Sunday mornings - this place gets bonkers busy. This past Sunday we tried used Yelp Waitlist. It gave us an arrival time. We were seated about 15 minutes after that. But you can count on this place to have their usual menu, some seasonal specials and pretty fast service. I'm partial to their Chickichanga - it's packed with more flavor than anything else I'd tried there. Also, it's not overly large - it's the perfect serving size. I also appreciate that it comes with a side of potatoes and a side of fruit - nothings that my kids will gladly munch on. I would also recommend getting their waffle and a side of goetta! Only downside is that this place gets busy and very loud so if you are sensitive to sound, go at a less busy time or location. Now for the food. The menu is seasonally changed and delicious! If you don't like things sauced, I recommend having those items put to the side. My regular is eggs Benedict but last time I got their speciality with Barbacoa.
