Totally wrong order, didn't know until we got home. Traffic was easily 30 minutes. Very upset.

I visited a hour before closing and the floor was being mopped. Went to the register to order. They woman taking the order was making the worst face while taking the order. We got our drinks and sat down to wait for our food. She comes as asks if we plan on eating there we replied yes. She rudely says the front is closed that's why I doing the floor. The taste and quality of the sandwich was below average. My sandwich also sat for about 10 mins because the guys clearly didn't know how to pronounce my name to call it and let me know it's ready. Stopped here on our way back from DC Weekend II: Playoffs. Was excited to use a checkin offer- but upon trying to redeem the deliverable, was told it was only for a meatball sub. ........ no?! (See photo.) I like meatball subs, but they were out of meatballs. So I ordered a hook & ladder sub and waved the white flag. I took my cup to the Coke 125/1 machine to find again they were out of something. Well a lot of things. Limited flavors (See photo) And the stars keep falling. The people working here are friendly, and the atmosphere is better than you might expect for a sub place. Very clean inside. This was the first sandwich place I went to upon coming to Frederick. I ordered the Hero Sub, and it was pretty good. "Pretty good" from me is high praise because I was raised in New York and have routinely expected high-quality "hoagies" since I was a teen. Their roast beef sub is good, however, their signature "Steak & Cheese" sub could use higher quality meat. The peppers, onions, and cheese make up for the less-than-optimal quality beef (that reminds me of a high-quality "Steak Umms" from when I was a teen). Adding mushrooms to the mix would make it a premium sub. If you ask for extra onions, they will happily put them on your sub at no additional charge. A 14" sub costs about $16, and it is worth it. read more

I would score this one a zero if I could. I ignored the bad google reviews for this place when I ordered sandwiches online for my family today. Big mistake. Ordered 3 sandwiches with a pickup time of 12:25. Arrived at 12:23. Told the cashier that I was there to pick up an online order. After a bit of confusion by the staff, the manager told me that someone already picked up my order. I told her that I don't know who picked it up, but it wasn't me. I showed her the order and the receipt on my phone. She told me that she had no way of knowing who I was or if I was really the one to place the order. I asked if she could remake the order or refund my money. She refused, stating that they made my order and it got picked up, so there was nothing she could do. So I left, $45 lighter and with no lunch. I'll get the money back through my CC compaby, but my kind is blown and I've lost a little faith in my fellow man. Came in for late lunch with a friend. Got 2 subs - 1 Italian and 1 turkey bit - chips and a drink. The service was pretty friendly and was defiantly fast. The drink was fine and the jalapeño chips were good. But that is kind of where the good ended. The Italian sub had SO much lettuce on it that the excess I scrapped out was 2 handfuls I kid you not. The mustard on the sandwich was really tasty with a good kick but it was put on with such a light hand that my sandwich was very dry in some places. It seems like they over compensated with the Italian dressing on it because some places were soggy and dripped with dressing while others were bone dry. The sub was also not toasted even though it was suppose to be. I only ate 1/2 of the sub and gave up. The turkey blt only 1 piece of bacon on it and was super light on the mayo on one half and just right on the other half. Over all for my first time here it was unimpressed and will not be returning. I mean, there is "strategically placed" firehouse-themed decor EVERYwhere: fire hydrants, fire hats, red and black everywhere. But hungry we were, and food it was. Classic meatball sub on wheat - The marinara sauce was a tad on the sweet side, but the meatballs were tasty and not soggy. My fiancé and I returned to give them another shot, and this time it was a completely enjoyable experience. The staff was very friendly and quick to take your order. I found this place while searching for something other than Subway... I would say it lives up to that standard. The place supposedly was started by firefighters, hence the name. The thing I found interesting when I walked in was that they sell pickles... by the 5-gallon bucket. So if anyone is hankering for a pickle, you can get your fill there! I ordered their hot (as in temperature, not taste) Italian sub (they have 8-inch and 12-inch subs). They make all their subs "fully involved," which means they have mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato and onion, with a pickle spear on the side. You can request that certain things not go on your sub. I did have to wait a solid five minutes, which didn't bug me since I had nothing better to do. The sub was so-so. The bread was very good - not too thin, not too thick. I've eaten at Firehouse Subs a total of three times and it's OK...better than Subway, which is about a 2.5 on my 0-5 sliding scale. I like that you have the option of a white or wheat roll and the wheat is dense and chewy like wheat should be and the subs are hot. I've ordered the New York Steamer (beef brisket and pastrami) all three times, but I've gotten different toppings every time. The first time I got it, I ordered it "fully engulfed": mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato and onion and the meat seemed overwhelmed by the toppings. The next time, I ordered it exactly how it is offered: mayo, mustard and Italian dressing. It was floating in condiments. Every time I took a bite, the meat slid out the other end. The last time that I got it, I ordered it without any condiments, and it was so dry that I literally almost choked on it a couple of times. I know this is partially my fault, but my point is that there was more bread than anything else. It seems like the amount of meat has decreased every time I've gone. Next time I'll ask for light condiments and I should be good to go. They were touting their cherry limeade when I was there yesterday. One of my go-to places for lunch. I usually get the philly cheesesteak and add some jalapenos. The food is always quality and the people in there are nice. Much better than Quiznos or Subway. Plus they have a small selection of hot sauces which I enjoy. You place a sandwich order and find a seat and they bring your sandwich out to you while shouting your name. Not a bad system. The drawbacks are that it can be slow, especially when it's crowded, the place is small so it can be hard to find a seat, and it's a little on the pricey side. I have always loved firehouse! I never had any issues with the food or staff. Until yesterday. I called in an order like I normally do and was asked to hold. It sounded as though the phone was set down since I could hear the people ordering, person taking the order and the computer beeping right in my ear. After almost 5 minutes waiting to place my order, the female that answered the phone could barely speak English and was speaking Spanish to the person next to her in the store as she is taking my order( it seemed like she was new or training ). The menu I had gotten online( as well as the menu I grabbed from the store) was not current. So I was ordering a salad they no longer carried( the chief salad) but the female taking my order had no clue what Item was talking about. She also wasn't able to understand my very simple last name- even when I spelled it out 3 times. There was obviously a language barrier there. I finally finished placing my order, hung up, and got to the restaurant to find my order incomplete because she still didn't understand what salad I was asking for. Instead of asking for help while we were in the phone, she waited until I arrived at the restaurant. Food was actually good but horrible employee attitude ruined that. It appeared that I was the 1st customer of the day and there was only one person behind the counter. After getting a look like "go away" when I walked in, I got an attitude upon ordering and then the sandwich was thrown on my table as I sat. It seems that there were another 5 or so employees in the back room. I guess that this employee was mad because he had to be the only one on the floor. That is not the customers fault.
