This is a fish restaurant, right? Four of us ate there on a busy Friday night and had a generally satisfactory experience with 2 exceptions, one big. My wife ordered salmon, to be pink i the middle. It arrived well done and we sent it back. This time it came cooked for about 1/32" on each side and RAW in the middle. When we finally got our waiter back (and he was not easy to get ahold of), he became unnerved and said to my wife in an aggravated tone, "Just tell me what you would like me to do". This is a fish restaurant and this should not happen. The other problem was the lack of good service. We had to flap our arms at times to get more water. Busy night? Maybe New person in the kitchen? Went to Fin for lunch, wanted to avoid the loud dinner crowd. i was excited to try the restaurant as many people had raved about it. I was sorely disappointed. I ordered the soup and slider combo for lunch: soup was their famed clam chowder which I found heavy and served lukewarm with too many potatoes and not enough clam pieces. (I like King's Supermarkets Clam Chowder better.) The sliders were good, but nothing to write home about. Lunchmate had lobster grilled cheese which he allowed me to taste: bread was delicious (Texas toast style) but again not enough lobster and heavy on the tomatoes, overall pretty bland. For the price of the lunch entrees ($17) we would have like to have had more meat in both portions. I went home feeling weighed down and listless. Wouldn't go there again for lunch or dinner. There are better places in and around the area for seafood. read more

Don't expect to feel warm and welcome here. Half of our party of four arrived at our reserved time, but the other half had to drive around for ten minutes to find a parking space. The hostess wouldn't seat us until all of us were in the door. We were staring right at our empty, reserved table. What were they going to do, give it away right in front of us? When our party was complete, another hostess (manager?) "greeted" us with the reprimand, "You're 15 minutes late for your reservation and we have another seating in two hours!" We felt like we were just supposed to sit right down and order dessert. Our waitress was pleasant but not too helpful in overcoming our frostiness. She insisted on taking our wine to be put on ice even though we brought it chilled. Putting it on the other side of the restaurant meant we had to wait for her to get around to giving us our own bottle. Her menu suggestions were more and more enthusiastic as the prices were more and more steep. Those suggestions, however, were appropriate. The Shanghai Lobster and Shrimp and the 7 Spiced Tuna were excellent and generously portioned. Unfortunately, I ordered the Land and Sea; a bit of short ribs and only 3 medium sized scallops were bland and unsatisfying, especially after an appetizer of Crudo, which consisted of 3 paper thin, very salty and oily slices of fish. Overall, we didn't feel rushed, but were in no mood to order dessert. The pretentiousness and priceyness should certainly make anyone think twice about making reservations here. read more

The restaurant is very lively, has a good atmosphere, and nice decor, but it's incredibly loud. Our reservations was for 830 and we were seated right on time. We ordered the grilled octopus which and calamari for appetizers. Both of them were very fresh and delicious. My husband ordered the cod and I had a salmon special. I was less impressed with the entrees, but never the less they were still good. I would go back again and it's one of the better restaurants in town. The only con about this place is the hostess. She is incredibly unfriendly and a little rude. We arrived at 8:20 for our 8:30 reservation. We waited at her booth for at least 2-3 minutes before she would even acknowledge us. read more

I posted this review on the Montclair location and wanted to make sure Summit got the praise. My husband and I enjoyed a delicious dinner at Fin last October with excellent service. I was delighted from the start with the light up menu- no need to break out the reading glasses. We ordered the grilled romaine salad, quite good. The bread was tasty-served with a white bean hummus. He ordered the cod special which was blackened and served with a cauliflower puree and french green beans. Beans al dente and the whole dish was delicious. I had the Barramundi and it was equally delicious. Really full of great flavor and perfectly prepared. Our server was wonderful. We loved the decor. Didn't have dessert as we were headed to a play, but we will be back for sure. read more

We're Fin regulars--the food is fresh and delicious, and the staff are great. The crab cakes are crave-worthy--I keep wanting to try a new appetizer, but it's so good I have to order it. We've had the lobster Mac and cheese (perfectly creamy with lots of lobster) and some of the pasta dishes too. We gravitate toward the specials, and they've never been anything less than delicious. And BYOB? Always a pleasure. Highly recommended because it's delicious, the staff is lovely and the atmosphere is fun and cozy. My only complaint--the acoustics. But I'm too busy eating to get overly bothered by it. read more

All in all a great experience! Let's begin with the restaurant itself which is beautifully decorated. Then, the menus which are tablet-like. Our server was very attentive and helpful. All the appetizers sounded delicious, so we decided to have a few which served as our meal. The lobster sliders were delicious. The perfect amount of lobster, bacon and a spice which no one at the table could identify. The bang bang cauliflower was neither over fried nor over sauced. The wood fired octopus salad was good. We ordered a raw tower, but I do not eat raw clams or oysters so I can not comment on anything but the shrimp which were perfectly cooked. They brought out a plate of freshly grated horseradish which I added to the cocktail sauce making it just how I like it. The special was jumbo lump crab which was served in a red cabbage leaf atop the tower. But my favorite appetizer was most definitely the steamed bao buns. The short ribs melted in your mouth and richness was cut by the pickled onion. The kimchi added a bit of spice. I haven't enjoyed anything that much in a long time. My husband the chef was impressed by the dessert especially the lemon curd and he almost licked the chocolate cake plate clean. read more

Really enjoyed this place! They had a nice menu selection, primarily seafood as well as some specials. We had the oysters and muscles as an appetizer and they were delicious. The scallop dinner was very good, but the lobster and shrimp Schezuahan and the lobster mac n cheese were only fair. Large portions. Lively atmosphere. Great. service. As others have said, tables are very close together. Can also order BYOB wine from liquor store down the street, which is convenient. Reservations recommended. Parking is tricky. Need to make a right just after the restaurant to a parking garage behind it, unless you can find street parking. read more

The food was great but the place is quite noisy. The service was also good though at times we weren't sure if we had a specific server or if their staff just roams around helping whichever table needed help and therefore we didn't know who to ask when we wanted to put in extra orders. They are also byob which is great. My wife and I first started off with some raw oysters. We had 6 total, 3 free the east coast and 3 from the west coast. All were very good and the server did well explaining to us where each one came from. We also ordered these mussels that were cooked in this white sauce with crispy potatoes. This was probably the best thing we had all night. Full of flavor and the potatoes made the dish. For entrees we both ordered scallops. She had the regular scallops from the entree section while I ordered the wood fired scallops. They were both very good and fresh. The wood fired scallops had a Smokey taste to it. However they did only give 4 scallops and for 4 scallops it was a bit pricey. We also ordered a truffle lobster Mac and cheese. There were large chunks of lobster throughout the Mac and cheese but there was definitely a large truffle oil taste and smell that kinda overpowered the dish. The food was phenomenal but the restaurant was quite loud and packed. There weren't very much space between tables and we could barely hear each other from across the table because of how noisy it was in there. read more

I have to give Fin Raw Bar 5 stars. This place was outstanding. My husband and I took my parents and we had a lovely dinner...BYO so everyone was happy :) we started off with oysters which were really good (pricey for sure), the crab cake which we all thought was amazing and a hot crab dip that everyone loved. I had the salmon special that was stuffed with crab....it was so delicious. We have lived in Summit for 2.5 years and we can't believe it took us that long to try Fin Raw Bar... Was invited here out with some friends. Great place, service and good are fantastic. As the name implies it is very seafood focused so I would not bring those who do not enjoy that. Highly recommend the 7 spice tuna. Raw oyster choices were plentiful and perfectly shucked. It is a byob so don't have to pay an exorbitant drink prices either. read more

Excellent meal and fun vibe! BYOB. Variety of breads in basket are fun and yummy. Very nice staff...helpful. Mussels in white sauce were very tasty. Lobster Mac and Cheese to die for and Tuna app very fresh w a citrus sauce that was fabulous. Split the swordfish that was very fresh and tender and comes w spinach. The restaurant is so noisy. You can't hear the person sitting across from you. The food is ok. I hear the one in Montclair is far better. The pineapple fried rice is delish. Got the fish and chips and for a seafood place it was definitely bellow par. Go at your own risk. And be prepared not to have any dinner conversations. read more

I've been eagerly waiting to try this restaurant for lunch and finally made it today. They are open for lunch Tuesday-Friday and I was the first person there at noon although two other parties came later....so if you'd like to try it out, lunch is the time to come. The service was prompt and friendly. The selections were varied and included appetizers such as crab cake, calamari and lobster sliders, salads, sandwich combinations and entrees. I went with the New England clam chowder and lobster sliders and was not disappointed. The clam chowder had a good balance of potato, clams and bacon and a great flavor. There were two sliders--each came on a delectable brioche, anchored with a slice of tomato and topped with chopped cold lobster. There was too much bread for me....but that's me...so I took the sliders apart and ate the lobster meat and tomato together and used the bottom of the brioche as a complement to both the lobster and the claim chowder. I definitely plan to come again to sample the entrees which include fish and chips, crispy salmon and various shrimp dishes. read more

Don't believe everything you read. We were a party of three on a Friday night and our experience was great. Two of us walked in while one was parking the car. They sat two of us right away. Our server was great. We ordrerded oysters and clams to start, and she didnt pressure us to order entrees. We did anyway since we were ready. The food was excellent. Best oysters we've had in a long time. Swordfish was very good. Crabcakes were good. Our server was very good. We'll go back very soon. It was very loud, really too loud for conversation. First, staff is abrasive and rude (waitress to greeter/manager). Not once are you made to feel welcome despite very inflated prices. Second, food has declined and now is mediocre at best (luke warm and rushed). Third, infestation of fruit flies who are likely part of your meal. Do we need a fourth? Not me, wont be back. read more

Wonderful BYO fish spot. It has a funky beach decor and the food is great. It can get a bit noisy when packed, but what spot does not? Great Food, But Extremely Loud Atmosphere. The food is wonderful, but the noise is extremely loud! We had a reservation for 7. Not many people there. By 8 pm, I had to yel to my wife across the table for her to hear me. Forget about a romantic place to eat. When my friends told me we were going to a new seafood place i was a bit skeptical, but after eating the food at FIN , i am a fan for life. This place may not be the biggest in the world, but the service is top notch and the waitstaff is superb. Sure we had to make reservations. But the appetizers were incredible and the food was hot and delicious. Parking can be a nightmare in Summit unless you get lucky, but eventually you find something. If you do mass transit the train is about 1 1/2 blocks away. Great town to walk around in also. But FIN is all about the incredible food and great atmosphere. BYOB if you want alcohol, but water was fine for me. Will go back again soon. read more

Really good byo for fresh seafood. Had the ribbony shrimp, ribbon zuchini, squash & carrots ovet spaghetti in a wine sauce. I am very picky with shrimp, sensetive to the metallic/sulfer taste that so many have these days. This shrimp had none of it and was fresh!!! I've been here twice and both times have been a great experience. The flavors, freshness and service have been great. I enjoyed the Thai scallop special, as well as the fresh raw oysters. The atmosphere is mellow and the service is great. I'm giving this place four starts in absolute terms, but it is in my opinion, one of the best restaurants in Summit. read more

My wife and I went there on the recommendation of her boss, and I'm glad we did. First of all, the place is small and rustic... And noisy as hell. Get past that, and you'll have a great time. We had 7PM reservations on a Saturday night, and were seated right on time. We were handed menus that, when a button was pressed, illuminate. This was especially helpful sine the place is dimly lit. We ordered Naked Cowboy oysters from the raw bar which arrived with a frozen concoction that was killer stuff. Peppers, onions, tabasco, salt and ice. It really livened up the oysters. We also ordered one of the daily special: fried oysters and wish there were more than 5 on the plate.. Absolutely awesome. The tuna tartar was... meh... Main dish of Ahi Tuna (rare) was delicious, as was the Bronzino.. We ended the meal with the creme brulee. Service was attentive without being intrusive, and the staff works as a team. Although Isabelle was our server, we were attended to by no fewer than 4 wait staff and bussers. It made for a very efficient evening. Our check for two appetizers, entree and dessert was about $135.00, plus a $30 tip. It's a BYOB joint, so make sure you bring your favorite bottle. A great evening spoiled by nothing.... read more

I have never written a yelp review before, but I felt compelled to review Fin. I have yet to eat there. When the restaurant first opened, I left a message to make a reservation and never heard back. I chalked it up to "growing pains." I made a reservation on 1/3 for a reservation on Saturday 2/1 at 7 pm for a party of 4. One week before I got a call that there was a glitch in the reservation system and they were no longer able to honor our reservation (made three weeks earlier). There was no offer to rectify the situation (i.e. Comp us something for our next visit. It is disappointing how this was handled, and while I was eager to try this new restaurant walking distance from my home, I no longer am interested. read more

Fin has added a sitting area with couches inside the restaurant, which makes waiting for a table an easier experience . We had the oysters over spinach , which were delicious. Following were salmon grilled very nicely and the "land and sea" polenta, scallops and short rib plate. Very tasty and creamy polenta added to the mix of the flavors. We went as walk-ins on a Friday nite @8p & though they said they were booked thru 9:30p Iris, the incredibly accommodating and kind natured. The owner Mike introduced himself & it's obvious he cares about his craft and the total dining experience. The brief wait was worth it -the food was amazing! The lobster sliders were our favorites, and the shrimp& lobster entrees in curry sauce was super fresh and flavorful. We couldn't not try the lobster mac and cheese which was super creamy with big chunks of lobster. As amazing as the desserts looked we couldn't manage another bite, --though we will definitely be back! I highly recommend this jewel of a find. The food and decor is on point but it's the customer service and warmth of the staff (and owner) that has really put this restaurant on the map for us.
