Roots is a traditional steakhouse, and sometimes that is exactly what you crave -- a plain piece of steak. I had dinner here with a large group, and we had a good time. I started with the lobster bisque, which was flavorful without too much cream. Then I had the filet mignon, but unfortunately, that was overcooked and dry. All ~10 steaks at our table were overcooked actually (1 star off). The steak flavor was still good, and the seared salt crust was nice. There were options to add sauces to the steak, like bernaise or hollandaise, but I am a purist when it comes to steak so did not add any. For the sides, I liked the sautéed mixed mushrooms and the whipped potatoes. For dessert, I had the warm butter cake, a plain yellow cake with blueberry compote; it was a little dry, but a decent dessert to follow a classic steak...which ironically was also dry.

Would give it a 4.5. Went on a Tuesday afternoon to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Waiters were very attentive and courteous. We both got the aged cowboy steak as we like steaks cooked different ways. We were both very pleased. Also got the loaded potato which was large, plenty for 2-4 people depending on appetite, had thick bacon pieces but was a bit salty. Brussel sprouts were a bit tangy and with a little kick- pretty good It was cooked as requested and more tender than other steaks. Would recommend and look forward to returning.

Everything was great here, from the service at the bar to the super attentive dining room staff. They went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of. I had a big bouquet of flowers that they offered to hold in the back for me since the booth was too small to lay them down next to me and they didn't fit on our table that was crowded with food and drink. The popovers with fresh butter are a delightful treat while you await your food. My steak was delicious and perfectly cooked. I'm giving out one of my rare five-star reviews because everything was perfect the night I went here. The staff goes above and beyond, and one of the hostesses even helped me with a fussy necklace clasp I couldn't quite get myself. Definitely worth the money to go back here again. I've been to the Morristown Roots, and I prefer the Summit location. The space itself is cozier and feels more special.

Stopped here again, giving them a try again! Really want it to work... so our server was great, but he was busy, missing at times and a lot of time between courses which is ok for the business meeting but probably not efficient for a family dinner. Popovers to start - hot and fresh, this time not too crunchy or overcooked so that was great. Green tea that was cooked fresh in a pot, then poured over ice to chill it. Great technique. The appetizers - bacon was good, fatty and rich - aroma all over the restaurant for this. The burrata was ok, and the sliders and the wontons were just ok; nothing that made it better than others I've had. The steak was a disappointment - prime ribeye, and asked for medium rare. Instead, I had half a steak that was well-done, and the other half was more like medium well. =( Sides of three styles of mac & cheese (original, truffle, and lobster) were all excellent. The wild mushroom mix was good, and the horseradish cream great. The dessert - people really liked the custom sundae in a giant martini glass, edible containers of chocolate. The hot butter cake was also delicious with ice cream and berry compote. Wine selections by the server were very good. Overall, steak was a sad 0, the appetizers ok, the sides and the dessert very good. Still such an inconsistent dinner! Will try again I'm sure, but may just end up going to the Morristown one.

Went for lunch, got the steak sandwich and burger. Burger wasnt so impressive, steak sandwich was good but we have had alot better! Ambiance is Definitely nice. Also got a mocktail, but for a $10 drink would expect some type of garnish. We just werent so impressed with the food. No highchairs for kids. Another downside if you would like to go with family.

Still food is phenomenal! Not the easy to get seating in the dining rooms unless you are a regular. Our last visit with friends, I was upcharged for my Jefferson's Manhattan as Ocean (which I didn't order and wondered why it didn't taste like my regular) and one of the steaks was upcharged to the 12 oz from 8oz filet even though everyone heard 8 oz order! No one said anything bc neither couple knew that had happened when we split the bill. Just disappointed to find out after we left restaurant. still Roots has phenomenal food, but repeatedly, hate feeling not appreciated even though we go there 2-3 times a year for special occasions.

Definitely one of the best steakhouses in NJ. While the steak was amazing, I want to say the apps and sides were possibly the stars of the show. I've been to quite a few steakhouses (you know if you've been reading my reviews) and I've always thought what seems to be a letdown at some of these high-end steakhouses is the sides, but I am very happy to report that Roots kills it here! Along with an amazing steak and accompanying sides we ordered (that cowboy ribeye hit every highlight - perfectly cooked seasoning and impeccable), it was an amazing way to spend my birthday with my family. Not only that but the old fashioned was great and ice cream dessert was just the cherry on top. Location is nice, municipal parking across the street and the staff was AWESOME! I highly reccomend Roots to anyone looking for a great steak experience!

Visited the Roots Steakhouse location in Summit for a late Valentine's Day date with the fiancé. We had arrived a little earlier than our reservation and thankfully they were able to seat us. We had this cute booth right by the bar. Emilia was our waitress and she was wonderful! Since it was our first time she gave us great recommendations. I ordered one of their espresso martini and it was soo good! Then we placed our order for appetizers and started with the calamari and crispy shrimp scampi. Before our apps came out, we were served their famous sweet rolls. It was nice and fluffy. The apps were brought out and I will say their portions are generous! We made a small dent before our entree came out. We had ordered the porterhouse for 2 to share and then ordered sides of the onion rings, truffle fries and Mac and cheese. Omg everything was to die for! The steak was cooked perfectly and I had requested for a horseradish sauce on the side. Wow! And all the sides were def shareable and I loved the macaroni and cheese. We had plenty of leftovers to take home! Overall it was a wonderful dining experience at Roots. The entire staff was so kind and shoutout to Emilia for making our dinner so wonderful!

Came here on a Thursday night. Parking was easy to find. Everyone was welcoming. We sat at a table in the back. I can admit the tables were pretty close together but we were ok. The service here is immaculate. They even cleaned the crumbs off our table after every course. We started out with complementary bread and butter which was good. We then ordered the dry aged steak, lobster mac, salmon, mash, and regular mac n cheese. Everything was good and the food came out within reasonable timing. For dessert we had the butter cake. We ended up spending $200+ for two people. All in all, a good restaurant that I would come back to for a special occasion.

With a google same day reservation, I rolled in with my little family of four and my mother-in-law. Gabriella, the chef's wife, treated us like family and every dish tasted like a hug. Highlights were the zesty Peruvian Ceviche (save bread for the sauce), tasty Steak Yucca Fries, and Berenjena con Miel - eggplant drizzled with honey and goat cheese. The Calamari was crispy and delicious even without the tentacles. Dessert was a victory lap with a smooth and creamy Flan, perfectly crunchy Churros, and Lemon Sorbet that looked like Olaf doing hot yoga. Then came free homemade limoncello to end the meal. It was bright, balanced, and dangerously good! We waddled out with joy! NOTES/TIPS: **Great solo, dates, friends, family. **Huge menu w/several vegetarian options and kids menu. **Wine and sangria available. **Gendered restrooms. Wheelchair-accessible. Indoor/outdoor seating. Warm modern vibes. **For 3 adults and 2 kids with their spaghetti and meatballs, 7 small plates left us very full. **Street parking if you're lucky, parking decks nearby. **Reservations recommended.

Service was top-notch, folks came back to help us pack up extras and also check on us multiple times. Stopped in on a hot day, tried a bunch: Pitcher of white sangria was a lovely cool sip, just about right for four of us per pitcher. Tapas/apps: - Special baked oyster fondue was only ok (reminded me of Oyster Rockefeller but not as flavorful and the cheese was mostly on the plate, not on the oyster); they had 3 on the plate and they noticed and had them make up a 4th for the 4th person at the table. Great service for that notice and sending a fourth one out - good touch. - Papas bravos was a good fingerling potato in a creme - Grilled octopus was ok - Peruvian ceviche was a touch too sour for me, but others liked it - had another potato dish but wasn't sure what it was called; just ok Mains, also shared: - Short ribs rigatoni was good, but not as good as the one at Ferraro's that I had earlier in the month - Seafood paella - not sure if this is a regional difference, but I'm used to having the crispy rice along the outside of the pan, crunch and savory -- the inside rice and shrimp, sausage and clams were ok, but missing the texture expected of a hot pan of paella rice, so left feeling like I missed out of something Dessert - churros were solid, with dulce de leche - lava cake was ok, not much melting (more like a little chocolate melted in the center but not enough to ooze out), but the chocolate cake was good, and the vanilla ice cream to the top always a good touch - they had a special fruit mix in a pastry shell - good fruit mix and the ice cream below was good - pastry was just ok, maybe needed something more like a napoleon's layers instead of being like a fried skin which ended up being a bit stuck in the teeth Overall great service, a mix of dishes that sometimes hit the mark and others missed, but will come here to try some other dishes that people at the table next to us ordered - the steak looked good, as did the fish!

My old phone was taking blurry pics from far away so I wasn't able to capture it, but think very cozy, fireplace with candles glowing from within, and little alcoves in the wall for candle clusters. It was perfectly elevated while still being casual and approachable. When we came there was a Mac and cheese special with pulled bbq pork on top. I knew we had to get that because it is right up my husbands alley. It did not disappoint, my husband was tempted to order some to take home! The pasta was super creamy and cheesy, mixed with the roasted pulled smoky bbq pork on top, it was the ultimate comfort food for the cold rainy day we were having. For my meal I got the Grilled Cheese which is more of an elevated "grown up" grilled cheese. It had cheese, thin apple slices, fig jam and bacon. The flavors were great, I only wish there was a little more cheese or a little less jam to balance the sweet and savory a little more, because for me it was a touch too sweet. The sourdough it was made with was delicious and fresh, I also appreciate that they don't seem to soak their grilled cheese in oil like a lot of places do (butter or nothing, please!!) My husband ordered the burger which he really enjoyed but nothing was going to top the pulled pork Mac and cheese for him. They should consider adding it to the regular menu! He originally wanted the duck sandwich but it was unavailable on this day. All in all it was a cozy afternoon together. Our waitress was very friendly and made sure to check on us without ever being too overbearing.

While both were great, the meatballs were the clear winner, served hot in a small cast iron skillet. Moving to the main course, the pasta ragu was another hit. It had a bit of a peppery undertone, but wasn't spicy, just a wonderful blend of spices that gave it a unique flavor. For dessert, I had an apple-based dish that was a special that night. While again another creative showing, I think I'd stick to some of the simpler options on the menu (like a Caramelized banana split - YES PLEASE)

We started with some appetizers of Octopus, salad and shrimp, chorizo and artichoke dishes. All perfectly cooked and so delicious. Next for entrees 2 of us shared a chateaubriand which came with 2 delicious and ample size sides.of truffle fries and asparagus. This was my first time trying chateaubriand and it was so tender, juicy and cooked perfectly, and a generous size portion for 2 ppl. For dessert we had 3 different types of dessert, tres leches, chocolate mousse pie and almond cake. All were so delicious but the Tres Leches was the BEST I've EVER HAD!!!! Sooo yummy and tasty! Overall just a truly wonderful dining experience with beautiful presentations, perfectly cooked food sooo good and satisfying and of course Kenny is hands down the best server at Sweet Waters!!
