Delicious food! Ambience was quite classy, with dark interior and modern finishings. Service was very friendly but a bit slow, although we were a larger party so maybe that explains that.

We went to Char Steakhouse in Scotch Plains on a Saturday night. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was nice, but the food didn't really justify the price. We shared the lobster dumplings and bacon slab to start both were decent, but nothing special. My wife ordered the Chilean sea bass, which was on the small side and came out a little undercooked. I had the New York strip, which was fine but not worth the premium price tag. When the check came, our total was over $300, and for what we got, it just didn't feel worth it. Everything was just okay not bad, but not memorable either. For that kind of money, I expected something closer to a true fine dining experience. Next time, I'll stick with my go-to Portuguese or Spanish restaurants, where the food is consistently flavorful and the value makes sense.

Per her request, I took my mom to Char for her birthday dinner. Not too many restaurants look at what occasion you book for when making reservations, but they wished her a happy birthday upon arrival! Our server, Leah, was very friendly and helpful. We'd go back just to dine with her again! The restaurant was dimly lit and there were fires roaring, perfect on a cold evening. Their bread service is always delicious with plenty of options. We shared the jumbo scallop "secret menu" appetizer that came with the most delicious lemon tartar sauce. The crab cake entree was our favorite of the night. The lobster mac and cheese was good, but we wish the lobster was spread throughout the dish instead of presented on top. To end the night, we shared a wonderful crème brûlée. We loved our dinner and will definitely return for another special occasion!

Went to Char for date night on a Saturday, with seating reservations at 7:30pm. The restaurant was running behind, so I wasn't seated until closer to 8pm. This restaurant feels like an AI prompt that's come to life. The user input "do fancy stuff, but cool, and also fire." Certainly, you won't lack for flame motifs, from smoking cocktails to a rather large art piece that I thought was pretty clearly the devil. And if this restaurant does indeed have influences from the underworld, I'd say that nobody made a deal with the devil to up the food quality. I got the French onion soup, filet mignon, loaded potatoes, and truffle fries. The highlight of those was likely the steak, cooked as requested and served with fresh garlic (which I thought was a fun touch). The potato was completely bland, even though it was meant to be "loaded" - it was large, so it mostly overpowered the little amount of bacon included with the butter/sour cream. The French onion soup was fine, largely unremarkable. Lastly, the truffle fries were a mistake, overly oiled and very late to our table after our server forgot to bring them. So while I was hoping for a devilishly good time at the newest steakhouse in Scotch Plains, I'm left feeling like I heavily overpaid for rather mid-tier food.

Came to 'Char' to see what they had to offer. It was kinda weird being here, considering I was a regular when this place was 'Grillestone.' It has a classy upscale vibe. Low mood lighting, elegant, sophisticated. It gives all of those vibes. There's a private area, but it was in use so I didn't take any photos. Outdoor area looks like it's still under construction, but will be ready to go in the Spring. PLENTY of parking as it sits in its own lot. Staff were very friendly & knew the menu well for a place that's only been open less than a month at this point (I think). We had the complimentary bread, which you select your piece from different types of bread from a basket, Charita, Eh Hombre, Crab Cake Sandwich, Meat & Potatoes, Delmonico (steak) w/Truffle butter. The beer was just above cool each time I got it. Never that good "cold," which was disappointing. Even after pointing it out, same result. The food was VERY good, no complaints. A nice spot to go to for a more upscale lounge kinda feel. The pricing is as to be expected for a steak house. I would come back for another visit. Solid 4 star effort. Lots of apps. Spilt a wedge. Was just good. She got two lobsters and I got NY Strip. Was nothing mind blowing. Good wine list. Above average customer service. We prolly will come back.

This was a long-awaited return and a birthday celebration. And while the service was fantastic and our waitress Leah was an absolute doll, the food itself wasn't as magical as I remembered. The crab cakes and creme brulee were next level, but the scallops appetizer had a lot of tasty stuff going on, but it seemed disjointed. The lobster Mac and Cheese, which some people consider sacrilege in and of itself, was good, but not mind-blowing like some others I have had. And as far as ambiance, it was a little too dark for me, like I was in a night club and not out to have dinner. I will return for my trusted and true favorites, but maybe not til spring to try out the solarium.

    French Onion Soup! Excellent!!

Nice place, high end, high prices! But..the "Cowboy Steak" was pathetic. Not substantial as a cowboy steak should be. Maybe 1/2 inch thick. Totally misrepresented. Call it a bone in ribeye at best. The portion of short rib was also really pathetic. I thought it was a joke. But the gnocchi was excellent. The lobster mac and cheese was solid, but I tasted absolutely no truffle. French Onion soup was spectacular. Nice flavor and mouthfeel for broth and lots of cheese. For desserts, the creme brûlée was standard but the banana foster bread pudding was spectacular. I would go again to give this another shot. They did put on a good show for my mom's birthday.

First time coming here since they took over the space from a previous restaurant that closed that was here the brookstone. They did a total remodel it's nice and very upscale. I ordered a petite filet mignon and loaded baked potato both was very good, cooked perfectly and tasted good. My waiter was very attentive and friendly. My only gripe is the $7 credit card fee they charged me and my guest meals was over $230 so charging me a credit card fee just seems petty. So I suggest paying in cash like I will next time I visit

I visited for prime rib night and unfortunately the prime rib was not up to expectations. It was quite fatty, tough, and cooked more rare than the medium I requested. It wasn't something I would order again. On a positive note, the bartenders were excellent--very attentive and welcoming.

    Dessert was yummy

We had a fantastic dinner at Char Steakhouse and left already talking about when we'd return. To start, I had the meatball appetizer--simple but incredibly flavorful. For the main course, I went with the Cowboy Ribeye and mashed potatoes, and honestly, both were exceptional. Perfectly cooked, juicy, and full of flavor. My wife ordered the Delmonico steak, which she said was good, though I have a feeling she would've enjoyed the ribeye even more. Dessert came with some visual flair--a large sparkle in the middle--which was fun and definitely eye-catching. Taste-wise, it was just okay for me, but to be fair, I'm not really a dessert person to begin with. Wife loved it. Service throughout the night was excellent. Our waiter and the busboys were kind, attentive, and genuinely helpful. The ambiance was also on point: classy, upscale decor that matched the quality of the food, and plenty of free parking in their large lot--a rare bonus these days. Overall, no complaints. Great food, great atmosphere, and great service. We had an amazing time and will absolutely be back!

Completely perfect. The second I was walking towards the entry a hostess opened the door for me to enter. Then I spoke with the hosts and they were seriously perfect ambiance the moment I arrived. The food we each ordered was delicious and the vibe inside was super nice too. This is one of those prices that you should absolutely visit and have a meal with someone. This whole low place was amazing for sure.

My old phone was taking blurry pics from far away so I wasn't able to capture it, but think very cozy, fireplace with candles glowing from within, and little alcoves in the wall for candle clusters. It was perfectly elevated while still being casual and approachable. When we came there was a Mac and cheese special with pulled bbq pork on top. I knew we had to get that because it is right up my husbands alley. It did not disappoint, my husband was tempted to order some to take home! The pasta was super creamy and cheesy, mixed with the roasted pulled smoky bbq pork on top, it was the ultimate comfort food for the cold rainy day we were having. For my meal I got the Grilled Cheese which is more of an elevated "grown up" grilled cheese. It had cheese, thin apple slices, fig jam and bacon. The flavors were great, I only wish there was a little more cheese or a little less jam to balance the sweet and savory a little more, because for me it was a touch too sweet. The sourdough it was made with was delicious and fresh, I also appreciate that they don't seem to soak their grilled cheese in oil like a lot of places do (butter or nothing, please!!) My husband ordered the burger which he really enjoyed but nothing was going to top the pulled pork Mac and cheese for him. They should consider adding it to the regular menu! He originally wanted the duck sandwich but it was unavailable on this day. All in all it was a cozy afternoon together. Our waitress was very friendly and made sure to check on us without ever being too overbearing.

Kenny my go to server once again did not disappoint whatsoever! He was gracious and really worked hard to fit our reservation in on a busy Saturday evening. We were a party of 8 and had a visitor in town who we wanted her to experience a wonderful and delicious dining experience, and that we did!! We started with some appetizers of Octopus, salad and shrimp, chorizo and artichoke dishes. All perfectly cooked and so delicious. We all had some yummy cocktails, one in particular which I can't remember the name was sooo refreshing, and it had some cucumbers. Next for entrees 2 of us shared a chateaubriand which came with 2 delicious and ample size sides.of truffle fries and asparagus. This was my first time trying chateaubriand and it was so tender, juicy and cooked perfectly, and a generous size portion for 2 ppl. My 3 other colleagues shared a porterhouse which came with 3 ample sides, once again truffle fries, Mac and cheese and mushrooms. And they all enjoyed immensely and not one morsel left. The 3 other colleagues and guest had filet mignon with mashed potatoes, a fish dish I can't remember with a side and the last coworker had a primavera risotto, not on the menu but Kenny so generously suggested and had made for her because she recently had some dental work and couldn't really bite anything too hard. For dessert we had 3 different types of dessert, tres leches, chocolate mousse pie and almond cake. All were so delicious but the Tres Leches was the BEST I've EVER HAD!!!! Sooo yummy and tasty! Overall just a truly wonderful dining experience with beautiful presentations, perfectly cooked food sooo good and satisfying and of course Kenny is hands down the best server at Sweet Waters!! Attentive, caring, friendly and so personable. Thank you Kenny!

The menu features lots of comfort foods. The king and duchess cuts are popular orders with my carnivorous family members, while I tend toward their simpler burgers. Either way, the food is dependably good and gets to the table faster than we'd expect. The main crowning glory of all Charlie Brown's, though, is the unlimited salad bar. It can be tacked onto any entree for a hefty charge, but we always get it because it's a fantastic way to start the meal. Since COVID, it seems that all open salad bars have moved behind sneeze guards, and instead of getting everything yourself, you now have to direct a server to retrieve your salad choices for you. On occasion, this might mean your salad might not turn out precisely the way you would've wanted (like the most recent time, when a server drowned my salad in a deluge of Thousand Island dressing) , but the variety of this salad bar can't be understated. Not only do they have all your usual spread of greens and toppings, but there are chopped proteins, egg/tuna/pasta salads, breads, and spreads. This particular Charlie Brown's has become one of my family's go-to spots for celebrations. The large dining space regularly accommodates our sizable party without any wait, and the service is always spot-on. For those with little ones, know that the kids in our family also love coming here. The drawable placemats and free crayons keep them busy until their choice from the crowd-pleasing kids' menu (which includes a free bowl of ice cream) arrives.

I'm not sure if it was because it was midweek or if the chef was simply off his game on this night, but the experience was disappointing overall. The first thing I noticed when I sat down was that my knife was dirty. I ended up taking another knife from a different table. The ambiance, as always, was wonderful, and there were only two other tables occupied, so the restaurant was not busy at all. They started us off with soup, and it was chicken noodle soup. I was honestly very disappointed. When I go to a Spanish restaurant, especially one like this, I expect something traditional like caldo gallego or a similar house soup -- not chicken noodle soup that I could easily make at home. For appetizers, we ordered shrimp in garlic sauce and calamari. Both were absolutely delicious and honestly the highlight of the meal. We also had to ask the waiter for bread, and when it finally arrived, we were each given one very small roll. Our main entrées were sautéed tilapia and shrimp in lemon sauce with mashed potatoes and string beans, and breaded veal cutlet Milanese with mushrooms in a wine and brandy sauce over mashed potatoes. Unfortunately, neither entrée stood out the way meals here usually do. The tilapia was sitting on a bed of mashed potatoes and absolutely swimming in lemon sauce. There was so much sauce that it completely soaked the mashed potatoes and vegetables. I could only eat the top portion of the fish. My husband also mentioned that his breaded veal was very oily. The waiter never returned to ask if we wanted anything else to drink. The water had no ice and felt warm. We also had to ask for additional bread. I'm used to bread being left at the table, not rationed piece by piece. When the waiter asked if we enjoyed our meal, I politely explained that I did not care for mine and why, especially since most of it was left untouched. He looked at me like I had ten heads. I truly hate writing this because this restaurant has been one of my favorites for years, but this visit just did not live up to the standard I've come to expect.

On a previous visit, we placed our order, but our waiter disappeared after bringing drinks and food. When the food arrived, we were missing serving utensils, and it was difficult to track him down. It made the whole experience feel a bit frustrating. This time was completely different. Our server was attentive, proactive, and present. She checked in regularly, made sure we had clean plates, and refilled water without us having to ask, though most of us were busy enjoying our cocktails. That level of service made a noticeable difference. We usually come during happy hour, so it does get crowded. The space itself has a fun vibe. The trees in the center of the room are wrapped in lights, which gives the place a slightly magical feel. If you sit at the bar, you will miss that feature, but that is where the happy hour specials are. We ordered a variety of appetizers: - Brussels sprouts: very greasy and overly salted. 3/5 stars - Loaded nachos: also greasy, with heavily fried chips. 3/5 stars - Guacamole: a hit at the table. Thick, creamy, and well-balanced. 4.5/5 stars - Spinach artichoke dip: another favorite. Rich, creamy, and satisfying. 4.5/5 stars - Beet salad: red and golden beets with a port wine vinaigrette were excellent. The women loved it, the men were less enthusiastic. 4.5/5 stars Drinks: - Kane Head High beer: solid choice for craft beer. 4/5 stars - Spring Spritz: A generous pour of Prosecco with limoncello and a splash of club soda. 4.5/5 stars - Banana Old Fashioned: Tasted more like straight bourbon on the rocks, with little to no banana flavor coming through. 3/5 stars - Chocolate martini: Ask for cream on the side and add it yourself. It softens the drink and enhances the chocolate, making it smooth and indulgent. 5/5 stars The atmosphere is lively and loud, with televisions everywhere playing different channels, so there is always something to watch. Overall, it is a fun spot, especially for happy hour, but the service can really make or break your experience.

Stopped by Stage House for lunch while in Union for an errand. My friend lives in Union and…read morerecommended this place for lunch. We specified we wanted some place that would have a large bar area and tavern food and this place checked those boxes. I was blown away by how big this place is inside. I didn't even see how big the one side of the dining area is since we were on the opposite side where the bar is. Their bar was really big and there were plenty of high top tables too in the bar area. It was pretty busy for a nice Saturday afternoon with March Madness basketball on, yet they only had 1 one bartender. She did her best though to hustle around and was very friendly and had a positive attitude whenever we asked for things. They have plenty of big TVs. In addition to how big it was inside, I noticed they have a huge outdoor patio area as well with tables and a large bar with seating and an outdoor TV. It would be a fun place to check out in warmer weather. For food, we shared the brussels sprouts to start - I liked the chili sauce and the pickled onions. Decent portion. For food, we each got sandwiches. I had the brisket grilled cheese with fries. The sandwich was really good. My husband got the mountainside dip with onion rings. He said the sandwich was pretty good. The onion rings were not very good. There was something off with their batter - they were very thick and didn't have the right crispiness to them. He wishes he just stuck to fries instead of the $3 upcharge for the rings. All in all, we had a mostly pleasant and comfortable visit here. The one annoying thing was this large party seated not far behind us that had several school age boys - the kids were starting to get really loud and were running around at the end. I wish management would have said something to the family - the parents were oblivious to it or just didn't care. There were a few large parties at the restaurant celebrating something with children - I would recommend they sit large parties like this further away from the bar area for the enjoyment of adults just trying to enjoy themselves at the bar. The restaurant is plenty big enough to do this!

I just wish they weren't so darn expensive. I don't begrudge anyone a living, but yesterday I purchased three veal shanks to make osso buco for three. It was delicious, but $90...really? No wonder nothing here has the prices posted. I guess if you have to ask, you can't afford it. I'll continue to shop here as necessary, but also buy my meat at Pat's, around the corner, Barth's Market in New Providence, Wegman's in Woodbridge, and now, Union Pork Store, on Morris Ave.

My aunt asked me to come here to pick her up freshly sliced bacon, she has been raving about it for years. I wasn't planning on getting everything else, but mentioned in passing to the guy behind the counter that I would buy a half pint of vodka sauce, but they only had full pints out. The guy asked me to hand me a full pint, and he put it in a half sized container and charged me half. I've literally never had that happen anywhere. Most people would've just said "oh that's too bad." This is definitely an old school butcher, don't expect to see state of the art scales, or beautifully written menus. You don't come here for that, you come here for the products. I see other reviews regarding prices not being marked, the owners definitely saw that because most items had prices per lb. All the prepared food was clearly marked. A lot of the reviews here are outdated. Shop small and local, give them a shot. They need your business more than Whole Foods, or the major chain grocery stores.

In fact it was one of the reasons I chose the hotel for a quiet, relaxing night to myself where I could just run downstairs and pick up my order. Unfortunately, I was unable to place an online order for pickup anytime that day even though they closed at 10p and it was 7:30p. I also tried calling several times and no one answered so unfortunately I had to put on deodorant (just got out the shower from doing my curls) and real clothes because I had no clue if they would make me eat inside since the takeaway options seemed to not be available. Luckily I was able to place a takeout order downstairs and wait in my room for a call. I ordered the Grover Double Burger, added a slab of bacon, and substituted the fries for a salad. The to go bag had everything I needed to enjoy the meal in my room such as silverware and a wet wipe. I was pleasantly surprised by the presentation of the colorful, fresh, green salad I was given! Not what I was expecting from a hotel restaurant salad! The vinaigrette was also a nice light pairing for the delicious healthy salad. The burger patties were a nice size and cooked to a perfect medium. They were not playing when they said SLAB of bacon! That beauty was thick and delicious. There was quite a bit of bacon fat which I'm personally not a fan of so I tore it off but I know some people love it. The sauce on the burger could have been a bit more plentiful and had more flavor, although having more could have given it the flavor that was needed. The bun was soft, buttery, but sturdy enough to handle the patties. Overall my hotel meal was very good! It also seemed to be a popular Friday night option since the place was packed and there was even a wait for tables!
