First off, I have to say that my server Shannon was the best! She was so attentive and had the best recommendations! They start you off with a complimentary bread basket ( try not to eat too much because you'll get too full and won't be able to have dessert which is the best part). What to order: CHICKEN DIABLO (mildy spicy but not too hot to handle) FRENCH QUARTER ICE CREAM TORTE The pasta was probably my favorite. I've ordered the Crab Ravioli before and I didn't like it as much as I liked the Chicken Diablo. My date got one of their seasonal Spring Salads and it looked really good. The salad portions seems to be a very decent size. The pasta entrees don't seem like a lot of food but it totally fills you up. My favorite part was the dessert. If you love coffee or coffee ice cream you would love the french quarter torte. It was delicious. It was like an ice-cream sandwich with a crunch. The bottom layer is like made up of a crunchy Oreo crumb layer, which makes it so much better than just a regular ice cream sandwich. Figlio, we've missed you! Our initial dinner plans went awry, and we wanted pizza. Ahoy, Figlio. Our last visit here was in 2011, and while we enjoyed it then, the fates waited to get us back. Now, we've been reminded of what we've been missing. The space is larger than it looks, with an open kitchen and wood-fired oven at the back side. The bar is nearer the front, which hems things in and gives an intimate feel. They were doing the open-kitchen, exposed-ceiling look before it was standard. This means it can get a bit loud, but diners are nestled together, it is manageable. Kind of a date-night, wine-and-pizza kind of place. The service was friendly and helpful, and were happy to recommend the specials and drinks. We ordered the pizza special, which was a spicy southwestern style pizza with corn, jalapenos, sausage and peppers. Paired with their excellent fresh salad and some of the best bread in town, we thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Definitely quality stuff, which is why Figlio has such a good reputation. read more

Cute place in Grandview. I met some girlfriends here for a gossipy dinner of giggles, pasta and wine... It was fun. The area is very cute, but parking can be a challenge. I had the new corn salsa and chicken flatbread - it was really good. I love cilantro! The tables are a little crowded together, reminded me of Paris or Italy - the way they pack you in there... it is okay, unless you are trying to get loud or sitting next to someone who is annoyed by crazy laughing and girls who got jokes.. not that I am saying that happened... but if you plan to get loud, hopefully you are sitting next to fun people and not uptight people. The wine was good and there is a wine bar connected VINO VINO - so they have lots of choices. Nice strong coffee for dessert - the chocolate cake was good but the frozen tort was too hard and icy for my taste. I should have had the creme brulee. read more

I've been to Figlio's before and absolutely love it! This time, I was able to take a family member. I can't say enough good things about Figlio... the bread is great and the entree's are amazing. This time, I had a pesto and feta pasta (fabulous) and my family member had the mushroom pizza. I also had a salad and it was really good! We couldn't stop there... we also had the creme brulee, which was amazing as well. The only downside is how close the tables are together and how loud the atmosphere is. I want to start off by saying this is not your typical Bravo or Brio, it is much more than that!! My boyfriend took me here on our very first date and we've been back many times since! The flatbreads are to die for. My favorite is the truffled mushroom and chicken avocado. The craziest thing is, I didn't even like mushrooms before this! The pastas are also amazing. The portions aren't overwhelming and they will not cheat you on any ingredients. My recommendation is the drunken shrimp. My advice? Make reservations, especially if you plan on coming here on a weekend. The restaurant is very small and there isn't much of a 'waiting room' either. The area by the front door can become very cramped if you have a wait for a table. Also, this isn't a good place for big groups because of the size but a PERFECT place for a first date :) read more

This is a very nice restaurant with a family feel. Their bread and olive oil is super yummy! I enjoyed their linguini Bolognese for dinner and red velvet cake for dessert! They are a little bit pricey but the food is definitely tasty! Our waitress was incredibly nice and responsive to us as well! I'd go here again for the pasta:) read more

This was a monthly staple for me when I lived in Cbus. The decor and atmosphere transported me to what you would find at a typical west coast Italian restaurant - which I love! Because the food here is so good, expect to wait for a table. The place is always crowded and the tables are crammed into the dining room. It would not be uncommon to strike up a conversation with the table beside you as the tables are barely far enough apart for you to squeeze through without your ass knocking over plates on the table next door. The diablo penne is simply divine and the bread and oil w/seasonings is something I have unsuccessfully tried to recreate on many occasions. Outdoor seating is available, however, you'll have to endure the salivating gawkers as they jealously watch you eat while waiting for their own table. Moderately priced, expect to pay anywhere from $12-17 for pastas. Their not to miss salads are a la carte so plan to cough up a few extra bucks for one of those. We are new to Columbus, and finally decided to try something new. We ordered takeout and got the Figlio classic pizza. It was delicious! A little on the small side for the price, but none the less still good. We also got the tiramisu for dessert which was really good as well. We had dinner in the restaurant with friends last night (Friday night). Great table, atmosphere, and food. Although they were busy (the place was full, per normal for Grandview restaurants), the service was excellent. My girlfriend's glass of wine was generously poured, and my beer was very good. Everyone enjoyed their meals, which covered various pasta and pizza dishes. I especially want to commend the manager for accommodating a request to add 3 friends to our reservation. Originally, my girlfriend had made the reservation for the two of us to cap a long week. However, good friends came into town yesterday (we had not seen them for over a year) and I called to see if we could expand our reservation to include 3 more. I knew their reservations were full, and the place is relatively small, so it was a big ask. But the manager was so friendly and, after some checking, said they would make it work. I hate mentioning this because I don't want to give the impression that Figlio's can always do this (again, seating is limited), but I was so impressed with the way my request was handled. Nice ambience, atmosphere and friendly service. Seemingly small from outside but they actually have party rooms in the back with big groups. Service is pretty good there were times where we had to wait for the drinks to be topped off refilled . The food is good . I tried their figlio pasta which was really more like a glorified penne Alfredo. It was good just about decent; I guess my only reservation here is for the average amount of food and $16 price tag I wish it was a bit more tgan good; however I was on a date so as a gentleman you're not supposed to worry about that Haha ... To be fair this little trendy joint is the perfect place for a date ; in fact I could tell half the place where small tables with couples on dates . it was cute to watch. Touched my heart. You just need a violinist from Verona the city of Romeo and Juliet to be teleported to play in one of the corners and oh la la perfect picture. My date had their pizza I was told it was OK it is a tricky business keeping up with the local Columbus market with so much competition in the arena of brick oven and wood fire pizza. It looked nice but it wasn't one of those things where I felt tempted to try or go back again just specifically for it . Wonderful pizza's and salads. These two are the reasons I adore Figilo. The Grandview Ave. location is cozy. Yes, cozy. That's a kind description. It's actually pretty small. Normally smaller restaurants are warmer on the inside, especially if there's a fire oven in the corner, but unfortunately, I was sat directly under the air-conditioner. I hate being cold!!!! But it's okay, I brought a scarf. I always get the Balsamic Salad, for $5.50. It's simply mixed greens, pine nuts, sun-dried tomatoes and gorgonzola cheese. Dressing on the side for me. It's consistently wonderful. I shared a Five Cheese pizza, for $10.50. Every pizza is wood fired. This one has a mix of parmesan, fontina, mozzarella, smoked gouda,and romano cheeses with tomatoes & herbs. I normally don't care for gouda, but as a combo with the other cheeses, it give it a pleasing, subtle kick. Although it's a five cheese blend, it's not chewy at all. They use the right amount of each cheese so as to not over do the goo. Figilo is a great date place. Very romantic. read more

Cozy atmosphere, great for date night. However, as the room filled up, it got REALLY loud - sound echoes and bounces around so much at one point it was hard for us to think to finish our sentences. Not really being in the mood for pizza we both ordered off the pasta menu. My Drunken Shrimp (blackened shrimp in a vodka sauce topped with asiago cheese) probably would have been amazing but the shrimp literally tasted like burnt pan. The sauce was able to escape most of the burnt flavor and had nice spice and was full of savory goodness but I wouldn't order it again. My date ordered the Diablo Chicken. Compared to my spicy sauce I felt his lacked flavor and was a bit bland, but that could also be the extreme contrast in the dishes. My Figlio martini was the best martini I've ever had...incredibly smooth. Creme Brûlée was really yummy and smooth. Service was really friendly. Great ambiance, food, and wine. Finally got to try this place after going to its sister restaurant Vino Vino. Slightly larger than Vino Vino, it still provides an intimate experience. There is a small bar along the left side of the restaurant when you walk in. Love the chicken diablo pasta (try it with the fettuccine pasta instead). Their chicken piccata came out beautifully as well. Their house cabernet is a really good one to try if you like full bodied, dry reds. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating. Very slow and frustrating service. From the time we received our entrees, there was about a 30 minute gap when we never heard from our server and couldn't get her attention. We were hoping to buy dessert and coffee, but it took so long just to get her to come to our table that we were already running late for a theatre performance so we just had to ask for the check. Moving on to the last stop of our evening was not much of a move at all - quite literally we walked next door and within moments were in the crowded foyer of Figlio, the first of three similarly named wood-fired pizzerias in a slow-growing franchise started by Buckeye grads Peter and Laurie Danis as far back as 1991 and the only restaurant on the day's tour with any inklings of "fine dining," as well given their white tablecloths and a proper reservations system. Greeted by the door first by one hostess and then by another our request for a table of five was first met with some hesitancy - "I'll have to check with the reservationist," then by a suggestion that perhaps they would shuffle some tables, and finally by the most logical suggestion - that they could simply seat us at the attached Vino-Vino Wine bar and serve us from the Figlio menu...a compromise that ended up working perfectly as the wine bar was less than half full and less than one fourth as loud. Seated quickly at a 6 seater booth/table and greeted by our server, a lovely young lady whose smile instantly made me forget about the lack thereof next door at Cowtown, we were presented menus and on declining wine our water glasses were filled (never to reach half empty) while my aunt opted for an iced tea as we weighed our options...and our hunger. Feeling a bit bad because we weren't planning to drink and given the duration of the day weren't all that hungry (thereby decreasing our total bill and tip despite the restaurant and service being so accommodating) our eventual decision was to go with two pizzas and two desserts and with orders placed the wait would be perhaps 15 minutes before our two pies would arrive simultaneously. Again going the route of one house-special and one do-it-yourself, our first selection was the "Margherita Plus Plus" with a Honey Whole Wheat with Basil, Tomatoes, Avocado, Mozzarella, and Balsamic glaze - it would be my second favorite pizza of the day and #1 for a couple of others. Beginning first with the crust, it was unlike any other on the trip and although sweeter than the standard crust at Figlio both of them performed well with regard to exterior crunch, interior pliability, and heterogeneous airy crumb while unfortunately lacking that woodsy char - it was as close as I've found in Columbus to a California style crust but certainly not on par with that at Harvest in terms of being a true Neapolitan style. Moving on to the ingredients - with this option again leaning towards California style (where the Danis' duo learned much of their pizza making) it certainly was not a traditional pie, but at the same time with the creamy avocados balancing the sweet tomatoes and balsamic glaze it was quite good though all in all the cheese was mostly overwhelmed by the substantial flavor of the entirety of the rest of the pie. Moving on to the make your own we opted for a Standard Crust with Tomato Sauce, Caramelized Bacon, Artichokes, Cherry Tomatoes, and Mozzarella. With the crust similar but less sweet than the honey whole wheat this was another excellent pie largely because of the quality of both the chokes and the tomatoes and given their restrained nature how they highlighted the more subtle buttery flavors of the cheese. While the bacon was a bit too sweet for some I personally found it to be excellent - particularly as a savory foil to the tomatoes. With pizzas consumed our server returned with the dessert menu and although some complained that they were "too full" the options were simply too good to pass up leading us to select two options and five forks, the first of which was Figlio's Summer Special Strawberry Shortcake with a tender buttermilk biscuit split, sliced strawberries, vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, strawberry sauce - a lovely and light treat with the poignant sours of the buttermilk balancing carefully with the sweet whipped cream and perfectly ripe strawberries. While the nitpicky part of me rather wishes they would have sourced a smoother ice cream (why not Jeni's - right down the block?) as opposed to the icy scoop served this is a small complaint as it melted nicely soaking into the otherwise sturdy biscuit. For the second dessert - something a bit more heavy - we sslected the Double Chocolate Red Velvet Cake with three layers of housemade chocolate cake, white chocolate filling, and dark chocolate sour cream frosting - a straight up "American" style dessert - big, bold, and intensely chocolate...the sort of cake you'd get at a birthday and need a glass of milk to wash down, yet at the same time entirely satisfying with notes of dark, light, and milk chocolate all contributing to the dense and flavorful slice. read more

The pizza is very good. On par with Bono and Harvest. The restaurant is busy; lively, and snug. If you don't like cramped places, you might want to stay away. Being sat in the middle of the room was nearly pretty dangerous for most of the servers. Any time any of us at our table even remotely moved an appendage away from our chair or table, we hit someone walking by with plates of food or a glass of wine in their hand. Yikes. Be careful. The pasta bolognese, which my wife got, was perfectly cooked. Slightly al dente, with a really nice tasting sauce with plenty of beef and pork. The classic Figlio pizza was delicious as well. We finished with the, uh, well "our all-time favorite dessert", as it appeared on the menu. I can't remember what it was called, but it had Haagen Dazs ice cream, Oreos, Heath Bars, etc. Just get it. We have been fans of Figlio for many years and here's why: 1) Figlio makes for a great date-night restaurant. The restaurant may seem cramped, but its by design. It has a very cosmopolitan feel and you sit pretty close to your neighbors while you're enjoying dinner. 2) They have a great wine selection (they are jointly attached to Vino-Vino next door. 3) The Salads and flat-bread pizzas are very well prepared and keep us coming back for more. 4) The owners are a wonderful local couple who obviously take real pride in their product and even take the time to check up on their guests. There are a lot of good Italian/pizza eats along the short strip of Grandview Ave. (Trattoria Roma, Z Cucina, Panzera's, Z Pizza, Vino Vino, Spagio Wine Lounge); however, Figlio has been my favorite for several years now. Unlike it's attached twin sister (Vino Vino), Figlio is more about the food than drink. Subtle flavors are added to create complexity to Italian classics like ravioli, pizza, chicken marsala, and several varieties of pasta. This isn't a mom and pop Italian restaurant with checkered table clothes where spaghetti is served with fist sized meatballs. Figlio is creamy and gooey and garlicky like Italian should be, but it's done in a way that can be savored by discerning palates. Even their espresso is high quality. The plates are portioned correctly so if you're looking for buffet quantities, then you'll be disappointed. But with complimentary fresh bread and EVO+herbs, you won't go hungry. The pizza option makes it a good choice with kids, but it's not a great environment for really small children. Of the two Columbus locations, Figlio Grandview feels more like a small group restaurant. "Cozy" and "quaint" come to mind as you watch the wood burning oven churn out pizzas. That being said, there is a private room in the back that you can reserve for big enough parties. Personally, I prefer the Grandview location; it feels more light, airy, and energetic. Not just for Italian restaurants but for all Grandview restaurants, Figlio definitely ranks with the best. read more

I really enjoyed our date at Figlio and will be back. At first I didn't like the idea of our table being so close to our neighbors, but the volume in the place was perfect that we hardly noticed. We both had pizzas and they were terrific. I tried the Figlio Classic and Jon created his own, hame, pineapple, bacon. His was much better than mine. The price was right. We were abe to have a romantic dinner for two under $35 with tip, hard to find these days. We will definitley be back here, maybe with some friends. read more

Food- My friends and I food shared so I tried Basil Chicken with Feta, Mussel and Shrimp "Cioppino" Pasta, and Housemade Spicy Fennel Sausage. Normally, if I go to a place with these kinds of pizza I can't get my order in fast enough, but for whatever reason I decided against pizza and went with pasta instead. Good choice! The pasta was amazing, perfectly al dente, and covered in fresh and tasty ingredients. I can be reallllllly picky about meat, but the steak medallions on top were perfectly seasoned and perfectly done. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. The bread they started us out with was also incredibly, and the dipping sauce very tasty. I can see how someone who was claustrophobic might freak out a little when it was busy, but for me it made no difference. The food was so good I'd have sat in my neighbors lap to eat it! read more

Pizza night this week found my ass planted at Figlio. The service was exceptional (as it should be in a pizza joint that sports white table cloths and a nice wine list). Yes, this is artisan pizza. Don't come into Figlio looking for a 16 inch traditional pizza. The pies being too small for two people, we ordered up a couple (our traditional pepperoni and mushroom and the margherita "plus plus" ). The "plus plus" came on the honey wheat crust, which is exceptional - crispy on the outside, a little chewy in the middle inside the rim and slightly sweet. We actually both liked the margherita better than our normal favorite. Go for the honey wheat crust, you won't be disappointed (most times I prefer the taste of regular over wheat, not so at Figlio). The pizza is not quite as good as Harvest or Bono (my other two artisan pizza faves), but the dine-in atmosphere and service are great. A solid four stars. read more

The first thing I noticed when I went to Figlio is that I was basically sitting in the lap of the lady next to me, even though we were at separate tables. The setup is definitely a bit crowded, which was offputting at first. That said, the food and drinks were good enough that I didn't care. They bring you warm bread with olive oil to dip it in when you first get there, and the pizzas are delicious. There's a very nice wine selection as well. I would say this would be a nice date place, as long as you don't mind getting a little friendly with the people next to you. read more

Unassuming looks, but really great food. When I walked up to Figlio, I wasn't overly impresed with the facade but when I got inside I found a cute, intimate restaurant and was immediately hit with the smell of wood burning pizza. When I walked in, I just kind of stood and had to wait a few awkward seconds for someone to approach me since they don't have a hostess stand or anything. Finally a waitress sat me at a table by the window. The food was great. We started off with 2 artisan pizzas as appetizer, the truffled mushroom which was AMAZING and the chicken with feta which was lacking in flavor and was just ok. For dinner I had their crab ravioli with shrimp in a vodka sauce which was awesome as well. The portion of the ravioli was perfect...just enough. This is a place that I would certainly visit again if I'm in the Grandview area. read more

One of my favorite places in Columbus and the place I consistently recommend to out-of-town guests looking for a place to eat. One of the couples I recommended it to loved it so much they ate there two nights in a row and came back on their next trip (and he's a chef). Great wine selection. Minimal, but classy decor. Nice, intimate, but relaxed ambiance. The food is the real star though. The pizzas are amazing, especially any of the mushroom pizzas. I can't even describe what makes the pizzas here so good, but something about the texture and taste puts all other chain pizza places to shame. Probably some sort of combination of high-quality olive oil and magic. I've always found the staff to be knowledgeable and helpful, if a little busy. It's a small, but busy place and there's not much room to maneuver around. Parking in Grandview is always an adventure, but there's a little lot to the side of Figlio and Vino vino where you can try and get a spot if you're there early in the evening. read more

Figlio is a nice spot for a date. It's cute and cozy inside though it can get loud in the front room. However there's a back room that is much quieter and more private. The wine selection was small but the wines I sampled were quite good! The pizzas are wood-fired and very tasty. They're big enough to share between two people. Pair it with a salad and you're good to go. My friends told me that while the crab ravioli was good, the raviolies weren't very consistently flavored/stuffed. Overall a decent dining experience.
