Been here many times and it's amazing every time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cute place great for date night with a little patio for when it's warm outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service is always great. They give you focaccia and herbs and oil. The pizzas and the pastas have always been a hit as well

Figs have a special place in Italian cuisine and so it is no surprise that this classic Italian spot has figs in their name. After this riveting fig fact, you'll expect me to get a fig dish but I might have wiffed a little on that. Getting in was surprisingly easy for a Grandview restaurant. Plus, I love how they comp an hour of parking! On the food - the real reason why I go out of my house outside of work, i was tempted by their Tuscan shrimp and scallops and it did not disappoint. Probably the best decision I've made all week. I loved the contrast of textures that the pine nuts offered. The shrimp and scallops are fresh and perfectly cooked. The pasta was a little overdone but it is still one stellar dish. In a city not known for their seafood, figlio might have delivered!

Easily 5 stars. I have never been disappointed anytime I have gone here. Outstanding! My compliments to the chef and Eva our server. She did a wonderful job not only making us feel welcome but recommended drinks and dinner. Extremely friendly and a lovely person. I ordered the Lake Erie walleye and talk about perfect! The recommended wine was the villa Barbi Italian red blend. Such a perfect winner to compliment my meal. Thank you everyone for creating a special place in Ohio. You're doing it right, keep it up!

    Restaurant Week Menu

We decided to try Figlio out for Restaurant Week. The atmosphere was quaint and cozy and they had a great selection of wines. The Restaurant Week menu was salad, entrée and dessert for $30 which was a great deal. I really enjoyed my arugula, spiinach and goat cheese salad (the flavor profiles were great!), but the pacing of the next course was frustrating as we began our salads, the meal immediately came out. The prosciutto and artichoke entrée was delicious as well with a light garlic sauce over fresh pasta with spinach and tomatoes. I finished with the crème brulee which was the star of the show! I liked Figlio. I don't think they have a happy hour, but I'd definitely give them another shot.

Margherita "plus plus" Pizza as advertised

I heard great things about Figlio & was so excited to try. Unfortunately, my expectations were not met. Ordered a couple entrées for pick up and was sorely disappointed with my pizza. I got the Margherita plus plus pizza and it came out cold, without the balsamic glaze. I arrived just as the order was finished and I could understand if it was busy and perhaps had been sitting awhile, however, all the servers were sitting at the bar and it was dead inside. I included a picture of how it's advertised online vrs what was served.

    The best tiramisu ever!

The food here is always a win. And the service was great. Thank you for taking good care of us, Alyssa! We went for Restaurant Week. For starters I enjoyed a very dirty Tito's martini with extra Gorgonzola stuffed olives. I had the Caesar salad, pasta with chicken and red pepper cream sauce, and the tiramisu. The Caesar salad was a bit bland I admit - it needed more garlic. But the lettuce was super cold which I love. The pasta was amazing. Super creamy with plenty of sauce for the bread which they serve with a yummy olive oil and herb mixture. The olive oil is a very good quality - bright and green. The tiramisu - WOW! The best I've had. They make everything they serve from scratch there. But the tiramisu is delivered from New York City bc it's that good. It's worth going here just for the tiramisu. We will Be back soon!

    Voodoo Brownie

Pizza-centric but don't sleep on the bread, wine and dessert. Got a table for two on a Friday night around 8:00 without a reservation. I was surprised at the large size of the place because you only see one half of the dining room when walking in the front door. We sat in the second room with the bar, and the dim lights set a perfect date night ambiance. Upon being seated we received a plate of their focaccia and oil, and it stands out in a great way against other Italian restaurants. From there we had three glasses of wine at about $10-$11 per glass. The fall harvest pizza had a spicy kick (as described on the menu) and was solid. I liked prosciutto hot honey pizza a little better, but I feel like I would have liked any of their pizzas due to the not too crisp/not too thin thin flatbread crust. Finished up with the voodoo brownie and tiramisu. Tiramisu was good; voodoo brownie topped with ice cream and drenched in chocolate was great. Lastly the service was outstanding. Very nice and attentive, and they smoothly handled the gift certificate that we used for a portion of the tab. Grandview Ave has many restaurants to choose from between 1st and 5th Aves, but Figlio will not disappoint.

    Chicken Diablo
    Kathy N.

Loved my experience here! We had the margarita pizza, chicken diablo, and lemon chicken with Parmesan cream pasta. I think the pizza had to be my favorite, but everything was delicious! They also offered complementary bread and oil wish was amazing! Knocked off one star ONLY because I wish the appetizer list was better! They only offer salads as an appetizer. I'd suggest adding calamari, arancini, meatballs, etc!

First time here for restaurant week. I loved the space. It was super cozy and warmly lit. I was overall impressed by the food. The bread and oil for the table is remarkably yummy and addictive. Salad was fresh and pasta was properly cooked. Unfortunately my tiramisu was frozen solid in the middle. I also found our server to be detached and seemingly annoyed to be there. But I'd give them another shot to try the regular menu. It would be a fantastic date night spot.

Came here on a Tuesday night for dinner. They have been around for over 20 years and for good reason. We started with the cote du Rhône wine special, the bartender gave us a taste before we ordered. They brought the bread with olive oil over almost instantly, the herbs were a great touch. We shared the smoked salmon pizza special and the chicken Diablo pasta. The wood fired pizza was wonderful, crispy on the bottom, but still light and airy on top. The pasta was the perfect blend of creamy and not too spicy, chicken was very tender. Will for sure come back

The space is very bright and airy: loved the floral and plant vibes. Our server was kind but maybe a bit apprehensive because we brought our two daughters. Sometimes I feel bad bringing kids but honestly we deserve to have good food even if there are little mouths involved. We had the focaccia starter and it was as pillowy and sumptuous as it looked. Next was broccolini which our 8 month old devoured. I tried the funghi pasta and my husband had the sausage ragu. Both had generous portions. The kitchen made butter noodles for our daughter and she LOVED them. I was pleased they didn't try to doll them up because she really did just want noodles and butter. Finally, the octopus was sooo tasty. The sauce was super flavorful and I love a good bean addition. Delicious meal all around.

YE Gurl Says: Speck Had the Scene, But Did It Feed the Girl?…read more Place: Speck Italian Eatery Date: June 30 You know a restaurant is popular when you've been trying to get a reservation and keep losing the battle. So when a girlfriend chose Speck Italian Eatery for girls' dinner, I was ready. Italian food is one of my first loves. I was expecting good food, a good atmosphere, and frankly, a little "this is where everybody is trying to be seen" energy. And on that front? Speck delivered. The space is airy and attractive, the atmosphere was lively, and despite the seating being a little tight, our table toward the back had plenty of room. My girlfriend had been raving about the focaccia, so obviously we had to test the theory. Housemade focaccia with olive oil and sea salt? Yes, ma'am. We shared a few things, including the Crudo--hamachi, blood orange, Castelvetrano olives, fennel, and basil--and the Gem, a crunchy vegetable salad with pistachio, Parmesan crumb, and vinaigrette. Our waiter deserves a shoutout because when it came time to settle up, he was gracious enough to split the shared dishes down the middle for both the portions and the bill. That's good service. For my entrée, I ordered the Cacio e Pepe--except this version uses gnudi, peppercorn, and pecorino. It was good enough that I immediately thought about the beau, who loves cacio e pepe, so half went home with me. I also ordered another focaccia to go. And naturally, I had my Peroni while I was there. So here's where my Italian grandmother's spirit entered the chat. The food wasn't bad. The value is what lost me. For a pescatarian dinner, I felt like the portion sizes and prices didn't quite meet in the middle. Maybe I'm spoiled. I've eaten Italian food made by grandmothers and grandfathers in Little Italy, New Orleans, and Italy itself. I'm accustomed to Italian food being generous, comforting, unfussy, and--most importantly--filling. Speck feels more like consumerism Italian to me. Beautiful room. Beautiful plating. Trendy ingredients. Great atmosphere. But I'm still sitting there wondering when dinner is coming. And the bill didn't help. There's a 3% charge toward team member healthcare, and my portion of the dinner came to about $57. My girlfriend also had a basic Pomodoro pasta, around $17, which means the two of us were already north of $100 before drinks on her side, dessert, and my 20% tip. For two people. And we weren't exactly leaving with the kind of leftovers that could feed us tomorrow. That math gave me pause. YE Gurl Insight: There's a difference between expensive food and expensive dining. I'm perfectly willing to pay for an exceptional meal. But when the experience is carrying as much of the price as the food itself, I need the food to make me forget what I paid. Speck didn't quite get me there. And that's unfortunate because the restaurant absolutely has the atmosphere and popularity to become a regular destination. Final Take: Atmosphere: 1/2 Service: Food: 1/2 Portions/value: 1/2 Pescatarian Experience: 1/2 Would I return? Maybe--but the bar is now considerably higher. YE Gurl Says: Speck is a great place to be seen. I'm just not convinced it's the place to get fed--at least not if you're a vegetarian watching your dollars. I was generous with that 20% tip because the service deserved it. Consider that my chef's kiss goodbye... at least for now.

After skimming through the reviews I was a bit hesitant on coming here, but honestly I can assure you that the only thing I regret is not trying this place sooner. My boyfriend and I noticed it was in a small plaza and our first thought was that a "hole in the wall" place are usually the best so we were immediately excited. I did make a 6pm reservation after reading the reviews even though it was Wednesday and we were seated on arrival. We noticed the place was starting to get packed so I do agree that making a reservation would be best or try to avoid coming here on the weekends if you have issues with waiting or being crammed in small places. From start to finish, everything was a delight. Here's what we savored: * The homemade bread and butter- simply fantastic. I was going to ask for warm bread after reading a review, but since the waitress brought it out immediately I didn't mind and honestly it didn't need to be warm because it was good as is. The butter IS a true winner. I had to pace myself because I didn't want to fill up too soon! * Apps: WARNING portions are generous enough to be meals! We couldn't believe they were appetizers when it was brought out. Crab Cake- I've eaten a lot of crab cakes and I will say no, this wasn't the best crab cake I've had in my life BUT it was definitely a really good crab cake. Especially one with no breading. It was served with a delicious lemon butter sauce. Whoever wrote that the sauce was "sour" in a review made me giggle while eating this because I mean the sauce has lemon in it... hence the name, but even so the flavors were perfectly balanced and I enjoyed every bite. Fried Eggplant- okay my taste buds went over the moon with this one. An absolute standout. The eggplant was cooked to near perfection, and the creamy tomato sauce was to die for. 10/10! It was such a flavorful dish. Tossed Salad- a fresh, vibrant salad with a vinaigrette dressing so addictive we finished it in minutes. This is a unique salad because of the bow tie pasta in it. The tomatoes and green beans that also come in the salad are a nice touch and very enjoyable. * Entree- my boyfriend ordered the Chicken Marsala and he loved it! The chicken was cooked flawlessly, and the pasta was incredibly soft--possibly one of the best texture I've ever experienced. The marsala sauce was rich and flavorful. Ravioli- I opted for the spinach noodles with ricotta cheese and chose the link sausage. I also asked to have the crumbled sausage added as well (for an extra charge) because I needed to try this sausage that everyone has been talking about..... This Morettis sausage recipe does NOT disappoint. If you don't like "spice" you won't like it because it does have a kick to it, but I enjoy spicy. I will say I'm a fan of the crumbled sausage over the links though. It may be the same thing??? but I could go without the link casing. The ravioli were massive, perfectly stuffed, and absolutely delicious. Dessert: We couldn't resist not ordering and trying the dessert so we took it to go. They were offering a caramel apple cheesecake. After the food coma wore off, we enjoyed it at home, and I fell even more in love with this place. It's unlike anything I've tasted--cheesecake with apples inside is a game-changer! Every sauce and dish was outstanding, bursting with flavor and made with care. Karen took excellent care of us, making us feel welcome and ensuring we had a fantastic first experience. We're already planning our return to explore more of the menu. Thank you for a wonderful dinner. This place truly exceeded my expectations!

The employee who helped us was very friendly. We got the chicken parm, Alfredo, pizza, and bread with homemade butter. Everything was delicious. The pasta tasted fresh, the Alfredo noodles were my favorite, and the chicken was cooked perfectly. The pizza was AMAZING. Hidden gem. The crust was soft, chewy, and perfectly crisp, and that pizza sauce is perfection. My only complaint is they didn't have utensils available for takeout. We had a 20 minute drive home and were ready to dig in immediately, so that was a little disappointing. Already looking forward to our next visit.

I opted for the "Lighter Fare" menu at $55.00, your only two other choices were a Tasting menu at $110.00 or a Pelino's Dinner at four courses for $69.00. The menu is very limited, there is no A la carte available. Our server was professional & polite & the entire staff was lovely. I ordered : First course :Tornare alle Origini Eggplant, Pachino tomatoes, Castelvetrano olives, Pantelleria capers Main Course: L'Oro Verde della Sicilia Rigatoni, Lemon, Butter with Pistacchio di Bronte Crema Dessert : Semifreddo agli Amaretti Amaretti crumble, Semifreddo with Chocolate Sauce This breakdown comes to $18.00 per course. Looking back even the Lighter fare menu is too expensive especially for only one main course on the nights menu that offers Shrimp on your pasta, not even a protein like Chicken or Beef. The most disappointing part of the meal was the temperature of the food, not even remotely warm for this small restaurant. I had a guest dining with me and their first course of Toasted focaccia, Salt-cured Italian anchovies, Bagnet Verd which was comically 2 tiny pieces of bread smaller than a quarter & rock hard for $17.95. Sadly, I would not recommend Pelino's Pasta its too expensive & your clothes smell of seafood after dining there.
