This is a pretty big bakery chain, but they usually have a great assortment of pastries, which I'm a huge fan of. I came in the afternoon, and there wasn't really a big crowd around. I've recently gone to search for the best spot to get this as my old regular location has closed. This spot's prices are very classic, and the bun itself was nice and soft, which is what I expected. However, the flavors of the pork floss was off. It was a little too salty, and almost had this slight funkiness to it, which is very different from the buns I'm used to elsewhere, which has a good balance of savory and sweet. Despite being one of the oldest locations in the chain, Fay Da Flushing doesn't get as much shine for being such a mainstay in the neighborhood. This is likely due to the fact it hasn't changed much since opening over a decade ago and the saturation of Chinese bakeries throughout the area. Still, this is a place to get something (sandwiches, cakes, buns, drinks, etc.) in a pinch and is still frequented by many locals. Like many places in Flushing, this place is small with just a few tables. It's so small that they actively shoo folks away who linger and a sign to prove it. The hood is already jam packed with people and they need as many bodies going into the store and out of it. I am sure this is further enforced during this pandemic, hopefully with (way) less people. As a result, the customer experience really varies. On their worst days, it's a few salty employees that have soured the experience for many. But on a whole, it's not so bad if one is quick and prompt with payment. I'd forego calling ahead of time unless one can speak Chinese. That said, the food is still solid. The morning rush is intense, but it is the most ideal time to score the freshly baked goods. They have a good variety of stuff that is perfect for a snack on the go (buns, tarts, sandwiches, pastries) or a gift for someone (cakes, boxed cookies, etc.). I usually like to support small businesses but this chain is really good, especially if you need to grab something quickly on the go as everything is already individually packaged. The sponge cake was airy and fluffy and not sugary. The matcha sponge cake was a little bit denser but really yummy. The soy milk comes unsweetened, but they sweeten it for you if you like it. I wouldn't recommend to get egg tartes or anything with a flaky crust here as the packaging causes steam and this makes the crust soggy. read more

Fay Da Bakery was one of our often-visit Hong Kong style bakery in NYC with various options and reasonable price. Our favorite were the fried fish sandwich with veggies which was perfect for a light & healthy lunch and the fresh-cooked & rich soy milk. During COVID-19, they still sold their unpacked pastries by self serving which wasn't under ideal safety procedures. The options currently were also limited so our visit was kind of disappointed. Really good no-frills, Taiwanese style bakery chain. They sell out of some hot items QUICK. I've tried their curry puff pastries, mango mochi, chicken sandwiches, egg tarts, taro puffs and sticky rice. That with some refreshing soy milk. Makes for quick breakfast, lunch, or snack. I've had bubble tea here and it is nothing to write home about. Also there's PLENTY of other places to get bubble tea in the area. It's Flushing so cash is king, but this place now has $10 minimum for card. The ladies behind the counter are always nice and efficient. read more

Went here on April 11,2021 since I was in the area. It is small and clean here. Lots of food options although some are not labeled or in their proper spot so ask before you buy. All I wanted was a Pearl tea with boba. I got that as well as a Sesame ball, chocolate walnut bun and a treat that had sweet rice with roast pork. All were really tasty! My main disappointment was they didn't let me know they were out of boba. That's my favorite part of getting a boba tea. When I asked if they had put the boba inside the tea, they said" we're out how about cherry." I tried it but it didn't flow with the tea. This was the reason I didn't give five stars. It would have been appreciated if they had told me they were out of a fundamental ingredient of the item. I liken it to ordering coffee light and sweet and they just give you milk and sugar. Good price for everything in the bakery. Its a bakery, so I would only recommend to purchase the things they actually baked. I am disappointed with their "bubble tea" drinks as it was disgusting and the artificial flavor powder was still floating on top. The least they could have done was to stir it more thoroughly. To top that off, I ordered grass jelly, which I would imagine should soft and in shredded pieces. The jelly they dumped into my cup was a jelly block and it was dissatisfying to drink. It's newer than the one on Main, but not as new as the one on Kissena (wow, there's a lot of Fay Da in the neighborhood). I like the fact that it's big and spacious. It has all the standard fare that Fay Da provides. But I have to say my favorite is the Curry Beef Puff. And I can grab my own from the rotating glass instead of waiting in line and pointing. read more

There's so many Fay de around Flushing but I usually go to this one cause it's right downstairs from the office. I often Come here for a little snack or breakfast. The prices are reasonable for the buns. The drinks are a different story but then again people come here to just get a small coffee and tea since it's cheap , the taste is pretty good. They also carry bubble teas but around Flushing there are so many bubble tea places so it's not often people would grab their bubble tea needs here but of course you can tho. Deff do not come in if its late (around 5-7) their buns are pretty limited at those times and are usually not as good or fresh compared to the ones during the day. Although the people that work there are all Chinese and their English is limited they do understand you. They are friendly and I never had a bad experience with them. read more

Great location and the food is fresh since the pasties are baked on site. I am blessed that this bakery is in route from my bus transfer to the train station. It feel so effortless to pick up and go. It's cash only so that just means cash is king at this establishment, millennials stay away. The service is abrupt but cordial at the same time. The facility is relatively clean for an Asian spot that doesn't attract a lot of Westerners. This company grew bigger than many bakeries that started before them so that just means their business acumen is in place to combat competition and threats. They have a winning formula. read more

There was a fly inside the bread bin. I tried to touch the fly but it was obstructed by the lid, so that's how I know the fly and I were on opposite sides, which wasn't supposed to happen. I lift the lid up to let the fly out but it decided to just chill inside, so I just let it do its thang. I walked over to another station and got myself a ham and egg bun. The ham was sour. I am however happy to report that the fly incident does not happen every time I come. But it still gets a below average rating for its below average breads. What can I say? It's a Chinese bakery. And compared to the Korean Paris Baguette across the street, it's a hell of a lot cheaper. And also less crowded. True, it's not the same fare, but if you're just looking for some bread or pastries then you might as well try it out. Fay Da is a chain (there are several in Manhattan's Chinatown) but I really liked this one. It wasn't crowded, and the bread selection was pretty good. They have the standard breadstuffs, like the hotdog bun, the custard bun, etc. They also have things like chicken pie, curry beef pastries, and others within a glass case. My one complaint is that their serving trays don't come with any wax paper and you just put your bread onto the trays unprotected. read more

I've been going to Fay Da for many years now! They always have cheap and solid pastries, and while they might not be as sexy as some up and coming new bakeries around the city, they are a reliable source of starch, sugar, and caffeine at all times of day! My favorite pastry here is the dan tat (egg custard), it's huge and only a dollar! I usually grab one after dim sum or if I'm in the area craving one! Their pineapple and melon buns are delicious as well! The service here is much nicer and better than surrounding Chinese bakeries in the area by far. Definitely check out this place! read more

Lots of yeast, but little substance. Fay Da Bakery has increased the size of many of their baked products, but so has their price point. It's $1 for most of their buns, but the fillings such as roast pork, or custard in the buns is less. So the buns seem to be more light and airy, which can be accomplished by adding more yeast, thereby being less everything but air, to make it look bigger. It no longer is as crowded as it use to be since Paris Baguette opened up across the street, and may find itself buried in a few years if they pull more stunts like this to piss off their remaining patrons. I'll just have to go to other Chinese bakeries where I'm paying less to eat less air. read more

I love the fact that not only do they have hot dog buns, but they have these really fancy ones with onions and chives in a wrap form. Bread is generally soft and tasty. Be careful in the morning though, sometimes i find that my favorite dried pork bun is dry.(i think they sometimes use bread from the previous night) In the morning, theres a bunch of rude chinese people cutting line. I went in around lunch hour today with one of my friends. As I looked at the prices, I was a little confused, since I thought it was a little expensive for Flushing. My friend told me she would treat me, so I decided on the tiramisu. I have ONLY ever had tiramisu in Italian restaurants and I DON'T usually eat Asian desserts or delicacies but this hit the spot! I was so impressed by the taste, by the consistency, and by the sheer size of it. Fay Da is a relatively well-known Chinese bakery with many locations, including one outside of a Chinese neighborhood, the West Village. We stopped by this spacious location on 39th Ave for some drinks. The baked goods are attractively displayed in a well-lit case in the center, effectively dividing the space between table seating on the left and the ordering/pay counter (with cakes and cold drinks in a refrigerator) on the right, although they could make better use of the space immediately upon entering.
