I've gotten bread here a few times over the past few months and it's definitely yummy- a little pricey compared to the typical Chinese bakeries in flushing, but still yummy. A friend of mine suggested that I try Bake Culture, which also makes mini moon cakes. I always tell my kids to try new things, so I guess I can't be a hypocrite. On a presentation standpoint, Bake Culture delivers, as each moon cake is packaged in its own plastic clam shell. Once I took a bite, I felt that it was a little dry. This particular Flushing location is super convenient as it's tucked street side inside/part of the New Age Mart (Chinese Supermarket). I've been coming to this location even before it was Bake Culture and let me tell you, grabbing a bun to snack on while grocery shopping or buying some desserts for after grocery shopping, it's a win win for all. The displays are filled with delectable baked goods ranging from egg tarts (my family's favorite) to cheesecake. Think Chocolate or egg yolk croissants and pork floss buns. I bought the classic roast pork bun and ham and egg this visit; just like what I used to buy at any old school Chinese Bakery only prettier. The dessert fridge carries cheesecake, fruit tarts, and Panna Cotta (sometimes). So they seem to have something for everyone's palette. This is pricier than most old school bake shops but the level of baked goods offered is a cut above the rest. I like the variety they offer and I still get sticker shock at the counter but it's a good thing they accept credit cards! I lined up this morning with my dad just before 9:30 AM in the pouring rain for Bake Culture's Grand Opening inside of New Age Supermarket but remember the bakery does have their own entrance. Van Ness Wu (吳建豪 ) and Calvin (辰亦儒) were already inside and having their breakfast. The security guard made us formed three lines then he handed everyone a number because the first 100 customers receive a FREE PASTRY! I was number 30 and my dad was number 34. We were supposed to head inside at 10:15 am which things led to around 11ish. There were many reporters interviewing them. Later on, the security guard started pulling out people from the lines that have reserved vouchers...I didn't know about that ::sad face:: The staff was promoting 3 flavored croissants (6 in a box) which you must purchase at a price of $28 in order to get autographs from Vanness and Calvin. At first, they were letting in 5 people from the three lines along with 5 people with the reserved vouchers...jeez christ it was such a long process! Me and my dad finally got inside wooo hooo...the girl to our right was collecting the tickets and the girl to our left was handing out the FREE PASTRY...an egg tart! Came around 9:30am on a Saturday because I was scared things would've run out by then but it turns out they didn't bake everything yet and it didn't come out. Such as the egg tarts. I remember I roasted this place two years ago and gave them a one star review for the quality of their bread. Even got a personal message from the owner at the time, but I never changed my review or opinion. Well I just started going here for the past few weeks and they significantly improved their breads. In the past ,two main issues I had was , I was paying $2.50 for a bread that labeled has pork or whatever filling in it, but it was 90% bread and very tiny filling. In addition to that, the bread wasn't moist and fresh as it is now, it used to be crumbly and crusty. This bakery is located inside of a supermarket that is right on Northern blvd. Inside, there are lots of breads and pastries available for purchase. There are definitely some unique buns which are in the shape of cute animals. Occasionally, they offer deals for different days of the week on their breads and egg tarts. I found their egg tarts to just be okay. It had a nice outer crust which was very flakey but the custard on the inside was just alright. The ratio of crust to custard also seemed off to me. The bakery in this place is great. I'm giving it a five-star, but I do understand where the "not too good" comments came from because I also had the similar experiences an questioning. For the empty rack comments, it is true several months ago because the demand was so high and they could not make enough bakery items to accommodate every customer. But in my recent purchases, it does not seem like the case any more; there were enough for me to buy at different business hours because they adapted the overwhelming demand situation and start to make more. Not sure what the hype is for this place. I went Wed after the grand opening (previous Friday) around noon and when I arrived, most of the shelves were empty. I did see a rack of something behind the counter which looked like mini pineapple buns but the lady at the counter said they were filled with custard. It turns out they were cream puffs which I end up buying to taste. I also picked up a matcha red bean bun, chocolate pineapple bun and a large short bread bun. So the 4 items cost almost 12.00! For 2-3.00 per bun, you would figure they should taste amazing.....NOT. The match red bean was totally tasteless. Not sweet, not salty...just waste of money and calories. My daughter had the chocolate pineapple bun and she was said it was meh and I please don't buy it again. The large short bread bun was the best of the bunch. Honestly very happy that a Taiwanese bakery has opened in Flushing. Not that there aren't other Taiwanese bakeries, but a new trendy one has opened! I personally love their bread, it's soft and the flavors are just right. Nothing too sweet or salty. They have a lot of signature breads that are a must buy whenever you visit. I recommend the seashell bread, chocoholic, lava cheese tart and the german pudding. The other breads are amazing as well. Definitely some hidden gems that you might not think as special for example their Parsley Hot Dog Bread, Scallion Pork Floss Bread Roll and many more. I have to also mention that I love their Pineapple Breads. They have 3 different types, but what i love about their Pineapple Breads is that the crust or top of the bread is nice and crunchy so give the bread a new texture when taking each bite. I purchased a few pastries here after getting there at around noon time. A lot of the pastries were already gone by the time I got there so there wasn't too much left. It's hidden inside a supermarket, but there are signs outside so it's easy to spot. The breads I got tasted pretty normal (Chocolate bun (I think that's what it was called), and a few other ones. I was kind of hoping that they would have a lot more pastries/bread but I guess I missed out on the timing.
