This place is great. The prices are good, but more importantly, all the guys working there are super friendly and super patient. I have not had a bad meal there , ever. The gentlemen running this establishment take a lot of time and effort into their meals. One time I was there, I ordered three meats. The counter person told me that he didn't want to serve me the chicken yet, because they were working up a fresh batch. I had got a 1/2 rack to save some for lunch the next day (& yes the were still tasty the next day) I was stuffed to the gills in BBQ heaven after two ribs & half my salad. My boyfriend got the pulled pork which he liked for the most part. Especially the sauce! The bread was awfully soggy tho (& we drove less than 5 mins home before eating) I don't remember what he had for his side, but he said he would get the pulled pork & eat it with rolls from another store. I think we both agree that we would both get an order from FDB again. As we enjoyed the food with our faces spotted with sauce. ALSO we have since tried Bricks Smokehouse BBQ & ordered the same meals there. I would pick FDB over BSH anyday. I'm REALLY picky about my BBQ places. Majority of them serve dry BBQ with little flavor... Not Fat Daddy's! The chicken falls right off the bone which reminds me of the great chicken my dad use to cook. The hot links are about the best I've had. They're spicy and combined with the home made sauce will make you come back for more. And to top it off, the customer service goes above and beyond to make sure you get what you need. Great BBQ. We cruised in this afternoon. Folks behind the counter were really helpful. Settled on pulled pork sandwiches with sides of beans for me and slaw for her. Delicious. My hub and I were half way thru a 6 hour trip trying to find a place to fill our bellies when we stumbled across Fat Daddy's via Yelp. We were warmly welcomed and quickly served up some amazing BBQ while we listened to some good tunes. Totally chill environment, I loved the whimsy of the flying pigs as well as the dollar bills stuck to the ceiling and adorned with messages. So very happy we wandered in and will definitely be stopping here to grub any time we are passing thru town. P.S. Ask for the spicy BBQ sauce and smother your meal in it!! Traveling North on I-5 on Thanksgiving weekend we were looking for a stop for lunch and found Fat Daddy's. What a find ! The hubby ordered tri tip with a side of Onion Rings and found it to be very tasty. I had the pulled pork with cole slaw and was very happy with my choice. We both agreed the cole slaw was the best we've had. It was a simple dressing - not too 'gloppy' as cole slaw can be, just fresh cabbage, carrots, and a light dressing. We will return ! read more

If you're traveling I-5 through Reading and you're looking for something to eat my suggestion is keep on driving Redding Is a Wasteland for good food I moved here 3 months ago from the Bay Area and have not found a single restaurant yet that has been good this barbecue place is one of them I should have known the moment I walked in and didn't smell one bit of a barbecue mell that this place was going to be bad but I give him a chance and I wish I wouldn't have I ordered the pork ribs with potato salad and baked beans the ribs tasted as though they had been boiled and not BBQ or smoke at all and they were drenched in a awful BBQ sauce the potato salad was most likely store bought in the BBQ beans tasted as though they came out of a can and they added that nasty BBQ sauce in them I definitely will not be coming back here and will no longer be using Yelp for suggestions as people in Reading obviously have never been out of the area and have no taste buds read more

Disappointing I was looking forward to some good BBQ after reading the Yelp reviews and Trip Advisor reviews. All I can say is that this was a bit disappointing. I think the place is fine, staff is friendly and efficient, but the BBQ meats lack flavor and smokiness which I have come to love in the BBQ that I am used to. We had two sandwiches and a full slab of baby backs. The tri tip sandwich was meaty but dry and smothered with their sweet sauce. Even the sauce seemed too sugary for my taste and not enough of the other flavors of BBQ sauce came through. The pulled pork had a pretty good consistency, but again, without the overly sweet sauce smothering the meat, you'd miss much of the smokey flavor. Our baby backs had great amounts of succulent meat but lacked a good flavor. Maybe they need to kick up a rub or spice on the meats while they cook it. The staff again were very friendly and it was evident from the many people coming in (mostly for takeout) that a lot of customers like the place. The barbecue here is exceptional because they use a proprietary barbecue sauce-- it is unlike anything else you can get in Redding. The service is excellent but definitely geared more toward simplicity. There was an abundance of flies on the day that we were there, which was unfortunate because it gave the place a dirty feel. Other than that the place is actually pretty clean. They have started a dollar-bill collection on the ceilings and walls, which is interesting, but feels a little strange while you sit there eating. The sides are unique and delicious. Some reviewers have complained about the sides, but if you want "ordinary," go to an "ordinary" BBQ joint. This place is unique and the food is tasty. read more
