I have been thinking about this place at least once a week for the past few months. I had one bite of my girlfriend's short rib chow mein and have been craving more ever since. The chicken was delicious and I'd get these again! Crab Rangoons - also delicious! The sauce tastes a little bit different than the normal sauce that comes with crab Rangoons but it was so good! I really liked that little twist. They also had a ton of filling so I'd get this again. Rice cakes- these were okay. The presentation was pretty but compared to the rest of the food these were just okay. I wouldn't get them again. Pad Thai- DELICIOUS. My favorite of everything we ordered. The noodles were perfectly saucy and it was so yummy. Even when I was full I just wanted more of the noodles because they were that good. Tempura sweet potato roll- given the name, expect it to be sweet. It's yummy but it was more sweet than I expected. Salmon teriyaki - soooo good. Wow we stopped by Fat Baby for a last minute dinner for my fiancé's birthday since we were in the area. The place was pretty packed but we were able to sit at the bar immediately. Our bartender was so friendly, and my espresso martini (with star anise and some Asian flavors) was great! note: this is a review only for the maki monday special. after seeing the fatbaby $32 "all you can eat" maki monday promotion on instagram, i made it a mission to eat at fatbaby. as a new southie resident when this first monday rolled around fattbaby was my first stop. [[HIGHLIGHT]]the decor of the interior is nice with florals and dark wooden paneling around the restaurant itself.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]it was pretty busy for monday and we walked in with no reservation and were able to snag bar seats.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] maki monday is only a few select rolls on the menu and the rules are this: 2 rolls for each of the first two orders, and after that, it's one roll per order. i went in confident that i would be able to crush 5 rolls flat but there was a considerable wait time between each order of rolls. not sure if this is AYCE strategy or if it was because they were genuinely busy. the rolls themselves were smaller than i was expecting but were tasty nonetheless. i got the spicy tuna, the weekender, the crunchy maki, and the weekly special. all were great. there is a rule of no sharing so i wasn't able to experience what the rest of my party had but we liked it well enough. the drinks looked fun so we will be back to try more of the menu and the drinks! read more

My friend and I came here for dinner on a Friday. We had a reservation but it wasn't too crowded so we probably would have been fine without it. Service was friendly and attentive and ambiance was comfortable. To drink I ordered the Fresh Start, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was very refreshing and light. I do think it could have used a little more vodka but other than that I was satisfied. To eat I ordered three fried chicken bao and the mushroom dumplings. I loved the bao and the dumplings were delicious too, but I'm docking a star because I found a large piece of plastic in my dumplings. The waiter was very apologetic and comped that dish but it's a little hard to imagine how that ended up in my food... all in all I would give Fat Baby another try next time I'm in the area and would certainly come back again for cocktails, if nothing else. read more

Fat Baby is the embodiment of Tik Tok in a restaurant. It's a vibey fusion restaurant that plays Gen Z music. Service was fine. The server didn't check on us that much but they do have lots of food runners to get the food out when it's ready. I would suggest focusing on the left side of the menu and highlight anything fried as their fried food was amazing. I was intrigued by the interesting ingredients of their sushi rolls, but I felt like the flavors clashed more than went together. Last note, they have surprisingly very cheap beer. Ate at Fat Baby for the first time with my family. I let our server know of my food allergies before ordering anything, and after my first bite of our appetizer I began to have an allergic reaction from sesame in the food. Our server did put in a note of an allergy but the kitchen missed it. I had to go to the 7/11 across the street to get Benadryl. Luckily my allergies aren't life threatening and I did not need to use my EpiPen, but I did become sick later on after leaving. Our server and the manager were very kind and apologetic, and comped a portion of our bill which we appreciated. However, food allergies should not be taken lightly as this is someone's health being affected, and this will affect my desire to return to this establishment. read more

We also got lettuce wraps, which unfortunately were a big let down. Cool digs with aged (or meant to look aged) brick and Asian murals. Lots of bar seats and high tops with some booths. The menu is half sushi, half Asian fusion. We tried the latter. Wings: Honey habanero with decent crunch, decent moisture, noit quite juicy but definitely not dry. Sauce had a bit of heat and more sweet, but very lightly applied. Not saying they were a frozen product or bad, but just kinda "there." Decent enough; no better, no worse. Fried dumplings: Ditto. Scallion pancake: Ditto on the pancake, but unique and impressive whipped edamame dip made with hummus. Brussels Sprouts: Billed as kung pao and had peanut crumbs, but not much sauce or zip to it. Again, pleasant enough, but just kinda "there." Boneless Ribs: Tasted more like marinated steak tips, with not much glaze, not much flavor, and a dry feel. Broccolini was voluminous, but I think mostly regular broccoli, and mostly stalks. It's a fun place with friendly service and pretty good value. This place had soo much potential to be great but ultimately fell flat because the wait was ABSURDLY long. My friends wanted the unlimited maki deal on Mondays (32 per person) but in little over 1 hour, they had only been served sushi TWICE. This wouldn't have been a big deal if Fat Baby also didn't limit ordering to two rolls per order at a time. We came in at 6pm and left after 8pm, and neither of them felt satiated at all from what is supposed to be unlimited sushi. They had to wait upwards of an HOUR on their second round of sushi which is absurd. The only upsides of this experience was the sushi itself was delicious and our waitress was clearly trying her best to be speedy in the crowded environment. A pretty decent Asian fusion spot in Southie. I was pleasantly surprised at how many things I actually enjoyed given I'm usually skeptical about fusion. All of the "sushi" was gross - I would not recommend any of the rolls. The rice was all mush and practically disintegrated when I picked it up with chopsticks. Sushi aside, I think the appetizers and entrees are the better choices for food. I really enjoyed the salt pepper chicken, chicken Lo mein, short rib chow mein, rice cakes, and fried calamari. I didn't get any drinks but my group really seemed to enjoy them - so get that too?
