I'm actually surprised the reviews for this place aren't a bit higher. For one, the location is pretty solid (for Southie, at least) and for two, there's something for everyone (assuming you're good with Asian fusion). I'm not sure I'd come here for sushi, since there are plenty of other options elsewhere, but the main dishes aren't bad. I've had the Thai Curry Noodles, which while they don't have the traditional flavor, are super creamy and hit the spot. This time, I went with the Spicy Beef Noodles, which had a nice flavor, even if a bit one note with the spice. The portions are also pretty big, which is always a plus in my book. The vibes are fun - you could really come for food or drinks (or both). Despite being busy, we got our food in a reasonable timeframe. For Asian in Southie, no complaints from me.

What am I if not a fat baby? I went on a Tuesday night, so it was much quieter, but I can imagine how lively it would be on the weekend! Very chill and relaxing vibe. The servers were also very attentive. The food was delicious. I highly recommend the salt and pepper chicken (the dipping sauce was addictive), Brussels sprouts, and so beefy rolls (I know, I was surprised too). I would skip the spare ribs (way too heavy on the soy sauce without any sweetness to balance it out) and the orange chicken (Trader Joe's mandarin chicken is better). The lo mein was okay, and so were the wontons (next time I want to try the chili wontons).

We ordered take out from Fat Baby while visiting Boston. It was delicious. We had a couple of dishes such as the Fried Chicken Bao, Short Rib Chow Mein, and sushi (that I can't remember the name to). The short rib lo mein was the best thing on the menu!!! So flavorful and moist. It wasn't chewy or dry at all. O would go back and dine in for sure. We didn't experience the service or ambiance since we did take out.

note: this is a review only for the maki monday special. after seeing the fatbaby $32 "all you can eat" maki monday promotion on instagram, i made it a mission to eat at fatbaby. as a new southie resident when this first monday rolled around fattbaby was my first stop. the decor of the interior is nice with florals and dark wooden paneling around the restaurant itself. it was pretty busy for monday and we walked in with no reservation and were able to snag bar seats. maki monday is only a few select rolls on the menu and the rules are this: 2 rolls for each of the first two orders, and after that, it's one roll per order. i went in confident that i would be able to crush 5 rolls flat but there was a considerable wait time between each order of rolls. not sure if this is AYCE strategy or if it was because they were genuinely busy. the rolls themselves were smaller than i was expecting but were tasty nonetheless. i got the spicy tuna, the weekender, the crunchy maki, and the weekly special. all were great. there is a rule of no sharing so i wasn't able to experience what the rest of my party had but we liked it well enough. the drinks looked fun so we will be back to try more of the menu and the drinks!

Fat Baby is one of our favorite places for a casual, tasty dinner out in Southie. They offer a variety of Asian dishes from classics like orange chicken and beef and broccoli to sushi rolls, bao buns, and dumplings. Sometimes Asian fusion restaurants can sacrifice quality for overly broad menus but Fat Baby pulls off well-executed dishes across the board with bright, rich flavors. They also have great cocktails and a solid wine and beer selection.

Great service, great food, great drinks. Definitely recommend for a good date night with the girls or your significant other! Our waitress was extremely nice and accommodating

My friend and I came here for dinner on a Friday. We had a reservation but it wasn't too crowded so we probably would have been fine without it. Service was friendly and attentive and ambiance was comfortable. To drink I ordered the Fresh Start, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was very refreshing and light. I do think it could have used a little more vodka but other than that I was satisfied. To eat I ordered three fried chicken bao and the mushroom dumplings. I loved the bao and the dumplings were delicious too, but I'm docking a star because I found a large piece of plastic in my dumplings. The waiter was very apologetic and comped that dish but it's a little hard to imagine how that ended up in my food... all in all I would give Fat Baby another try next time I'm in the area and would certainly come back again for cocktails, if nothing else.

Fat Baby is the embodiment of Tik Tok in a restaurant. It's a vibey fusion restaurant that plays Gen Z music. Service was fine. The server didn't check on us that much but they do have lots of food runners to get the food out when it's ready. I would suggest focusing on the left side of the menu and highlight anything fried as their fried food was amazing. I was intrigued by the interesting ingredients of their sushi rolls, but I felt like the flavors clashed more than went together. Last note, they have surprisingly very cheap beer. What we ate: - Fried Chicken Bao: Amazing, must try - Fried Tofu Bao: Really good, great option for the vegetarians - Rice Cakes: Really good! The fried cakes were crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Great! - Coconut Shrimp: This breading and fry was done to perfection. - Avocado Roll: This was the best roll we got. Less ingredients than other rolls but the flavors mixed well - Spicy Tuna Roll: Wasn't a fan of the aji amarillo sauce with this roll. Too sweet to go with the rest of the roll.

    Lettuce Wraps

Some of the food is really good and the atmosphere is amazing. We got some sushi, sizzling Mongolian beef and dumplings and they were all great. A lot of flavor. We also got lettuce wraps, which unfortunately were a big let down. We were given the root of the lettuce wraps that had very small surface area to make them but more importantly the lettuce was browning and wilting. We ate the other pieces and after I received the check I mentioned it to the server. They said "it's perfect normal for lettuce to do that" which is not wrong but it's clearly something you don't want to serve. What would you do with this lettuce?

This lively bar/restaurant is a fun location in Southie. The food is prepared well and quite tasty. The bar is also fun and lively, it's a nice stop along the way for a night out or if you're looking to have some fun and hangout for a bit.

We went for maki monday and loved it! our server was awesome (forgot her name) and we did not feel rushed whatsoever. The rolls were fresh and honestly the diablo was addicting (ordered 3 times as you can see). Definitely a great deal and something fun to do on Mondays. Looking forward to coming back soon (:

Cool digs with aged (or meant to look aged) brick and Asian murals. Lots of bar seats and high tops with some booths. The menu is half sushi, half Asian fusion. We tried the latter. Wings: Honey habanero with decent crunch, decent moisture, noit quite juicy but definitely not dry. Sauce had a bit of heat and more sweet, but very lightly applied. Not saying they were a frozen product or bad, but just kinda "there." Decent enough; no better, no worse. Fried dumplings: Ditto. Scallion pancake: Ditto on the pancake, but unique and impressive whipped edamame dip made with hummus. Brussels Sprouts: Billed as kung pao and had peanut crumbs, but not much sauce or zip to it. Again, pleasant enough, but just kinda "there." Boneless Ribs: Tasted more like marinated steak tips, with not much glaze, not much flavor, and a dry feel. Broccolini was voluminous, but I think mostly regular broccoli, and mostly stalks. It's a fun place with friendly service and pretty good value. Food isn't bad, and it's certainly creative, but not really compelling enough execution-wise to want to go back.

It was a Sunday night and we didn't feel like going far for a meal. That's when we put the voucher to use as the Capiz is in the lobby of the hotel. We went for an early dinner. Walking into the restaurant, no one was there to greet us and there was no host stand. Finally, a server (who also turned out to be our server) told us to pick where we wanted to sit. We chose a four-top table. When it was time to order, we were dealing with a limited menu. I chose lobster quesadillas, which were listed under "appetizers". My husband chose the fish and chips. The quesadilla was sloppily made. Some pieces had hardly any cheese or lobster in them. Other pieces were overloaded with lobster and cheese. While it was all edible and the lobster was properly cooked, it still was underwhelming. My husband said the fish was well prepared, flaky and crispy at the same time. There were too many French fries, making the plate a bit messy. In a pinch, Capiz did fit the bill as we didn't feel like going far for a meal that day.

The lemon ricotta ravioli was borderline cold by the time I cut into it which was really odd. The mozzarella was forgettable, but the pork belly was solid. The scallops that were on special were the itty bitty kind and just ok - mostly overwhelmed by whatever breading they were covered in.
