I have been going to this hidden gem for many years. At that time, it was one of only a handful of good restaurants in Indianapolis, so glad the food scene in Indy has improved vastly. I ate at the Eastgate location and the current location in Washington Square parking lot. Let me tell you nothing has really changed. This is a good thing. Will you have to wait? You're almost always going to stand in line from 5-20 minutes, and I will explain why shortly. If you haven't ate here in 10 years, nothing about the food has changed. Everything is made fresh and from scratch even rangoon and egg rolls and the best thing is the quality is very consistent. I have never had anything but a perfect meal here. All prices are very reasonable. Two people could not find a way to spend $20 in this place and spending $15 is pretty hard. Large drinks are $1.20! Why do you have to wait in line? Well the food is freshly made and reasonably priced. There are no menu items over $6.00. A combo is under $6.00 with rice. A single is under $5.00. Each combo weights over a pound. Food made from fresh ingredients and made from scratch. This is one of those little holes in the wall that people have discovered over years, and that is also the reason for the line. I would wait an hour in line if I had to. Put that in perspective, this is place from open to close, there is going to be a line. The owner is a very nice lady. I have spoken to her a few times when she had a chance to get away from the kitchen. She does all the cooking every day which explains the consistency of the food. I have eaten almost every item on the menu, and I can truly say: "You can't go wrong". However, if you don't believe me ask for a taste before you make up your mind. They give free samples. If you are bored of chain restaurants and think for yourself and are not manipulated by millions of dollars in TV commercials to make yourself believe you have to eat average to below average overpriced food at some chain restaurant, I am one of you. For the price this place is the best! Be prepared to wait for at least 30 minutes in line. This is the go to Chinese restaurant on the Eastside. Everything is really good and the portions are big. Has been the same staff for years and they are efficient. You order in line and you can decide to eat in or take home. 99% of all customers are take out customers. Closed on Saturday & Sunday now?! Since when?! Grrrr! $@#&!% $@! This does not help my Fast Wok withdrawal symptoms! On THREE separate occasions I've driven to the east side... mouth watering in anticipation of my favorite dish (Mongolian chicken, with a side of rangoons). On each occasion, the store was closed! With all the regular customers this place has, you'd think they would hire more staff to let the place function during normal business hours for a restaurant. These "summer hours" (which are not reflected anywhere online) are ridiculous. Definitely something I consider now so I don't waste a trip. Cash only was annoying but manageable. I live out East for three years and transition to out west. Maybe two times a year I drive that far to eat at Fast Wok. This is REAL CHINESE FOOD. I can actually tell that the chicken is chicken and the beef is real beef. The food is hot and ready to eat. Unfortunately the line is always long. The portions are GREAT! Giving this place five stars because for the price, you can't beat it! For years, this has been our go to place for Chinese. I can't believe I never reviewed it before now. Nothing fancy inside, but they recently renovated it. Mostly I get take out. Served cafeteria style, you pick one or two entrees with rice. They usually have about 10-12 entrees to choose from. I love their cheese rangoons. I saw one Yelper said they didn't like their egg rolls, but I think they are good - especially when you eat them hot. What's not to like here, except the long lined crowd ! They do this right! Big portions at a very modest price. The egg rolls and chips are a great add on. Many lunch servings to choose from. My favorite had been taken off the menu as they no longer serve beef due to ever rising costs driven by the COVID-19 pandemic. I love the extra hot and spicy offerings here too. LOVE this place!! Best chicken fried rice around! Be sure to get it with 'gravy' (the sauce of whichever dish you get). Expect a line, but worth the wait. You get a lot of food for the money. I also love the spring rolls. They come with something that they make there to dip them in and it is delicious together! FAST Wok. It must be some sort of cruel joke. The ridiculous line is always there no matter what time you arrive. They take their sweet time dishing out good food and I believe the line is intentional. It takes 20 - 30 minutes. "If there's a line it must be good" Be careful what you tolerate, that's how you teach people how to treat you. I gave up. The buffet across the street is not bad. read more

Is it BETTER than other Chinese or Thai places in town? NO. But it is pretty good, affordable, and portion sizes are super generous. This is a good choice for budget-conscious diners but it's not going to be the best choice for people looking for high-quality, authentic Asian food. This Chinese / Thai restaurant is unlike other places in town. It's served cafeteria-style into styrofoam boxes. You get a choice between a "Single" or a "Combo"-- basically one meat entree or two. All of the meals come with fried rice, but you can ask for white rice if you prefer. There's always a long line, no matter what time you go. Because of this, the food is usually fresh despite being cafeteria style. As far as the food goes, Mongolian Chicken is my favorite. Always ask for "gravy" (sauce) on the rice. One major complaint: the food ALWAYS comes with black flakes--which I'm pretty sure are burnt pieces of the pans flaking off. I pick around them and eat it anyway. read more

I would've given a 5 star review except the line is always out the door...like by now, why wouldn't they be doing call in orders and just have them ready? I also don't understand with all the money that is made, why this is STILL a cash only business. I think by now you can afford the insurance for a credit card/debit machine. The dining area is also lackluster and by that I mean as bare as possible and you need to hire someone to clean it. I know this sounds like a negative review but I assure you it's not. I just think it's past time to step the game up a bit and invest in your business. When you walk into this well known place you're immediately hit with about 16-20 people in line. This is a popular eastside spot, however I would not recommend visiting if you have a quick lunch hour. There were two ladies behind the counter. One woman was preparing the food in containers for customers while also restocking the food on the line (not much help for her from the back). The lady running the register didn't seem to care how many people were in line as she took her time checking every person out. In my opinion for the amount of people trying to order, the setup is a little ridiculous with only one lady cashing people out. Great food if You can make it through the line. I try to go at weird times to avoid the line. Bring cash and go at odd hours are my two suggestions. Very nice people working there that are very good with the customers, I really like the employees they just treat people the way we treat them. I'd give Fast Wok five (5) starts if I could go there when they're open and the place be empty, that would be sweet. This just doesn't happen very often and I have to abort when I see the line. I work and have limited time to eat so usually about 50 / 50 I go in. Nothing FAST about this place. At lunch time the line wraps around itself inside the restaurant. 2 ladies working the front counter when there needs to be at least 3. It takes like 5 minutes to serve one person and get them out of the way. They are losing business because they are understaffed. The owner/manager probably thinks they are saving money by not hiring more workers. Hardly - I often don't come during lunch time because it takes at least 30 minutes to get in and get out and you haven't even eaten!!! I truly don't know what it is about this place. I've followed it since I was a wee one, hustling pool players at the arcade inside Eastgate Mall. My dad used to eat this everyday, and I couldn't find it in my heart to eat it that often. But their fried rice, Mongolian Chicken and (not very Americanized version of) Pad Thai, I just love the combination so much. Wow. I walked in and saw a line snaking through the entire restaurant. I asked the first people I saw if it was worth the wait. Everyone that heard me answered with a resounding "yes"! I was probably 30 back in line. I visited with everyone in line like a big community party. I'll say that the wait was definitely worth it. The portion sizes are enormous for the small prices paid. I had the pepper beef and my wife had the sesame chicken. Both were excellent, as were the handmade egg rolls and cheese rangoons. Don't forget to grab a cup of the homemade spicy mustard and sweet sour sauce. Good stuff. The only negative is their summer hours are only Monday thru Friday. This place is always packed! In my country we call it Turo Turo style (Point-point) for the set-up. I suggest you come here before noon to avoid the long wait.they only have 2 employees all the time. 1st person prepares the orders and the 2nd person is the cashier. I guess depending from their mood for the day how they give good service. Sometimes they like to smile but sometimes they just look like whatever. Wow, what a great find! Fast Wok is open Monday through Saturday and offers around ten entrees to order from. All of the entrees are very cheap for the large portions they give you (about $5). If it says spicy, trust them, it's spicy (in the best of ways). The portion for the good quality and very low price is why this place deserves 5 stars even though there are some drawbacks. What are the drawbacks? Well, first there's the wait time. This place is so popular that even though the ladies dishing out the entrees are working at a reasonable pace, the line often whips around the interior of the restaurant. It's very reasonable to expect to wait 30min in line before ordering and receiving your food, so don't try to go here during your lunch break unless you're given at least an hour for lunch. Also, the meat can be a bit tough. I assume they throw it in the wok way to early because it is obviously very overcooked and dry. I wish they would improve on that but I have a feeling they don't read any of their online reviews. Finally, even though the cheese rangoons are cheap, you might want to pass because they really skimp out on the cheese. Instead of a nice ice cream scoop size of cheese it's more like a melon baller. Fast Wok is the best Chinese food on the East side of Indy. There is usually a wait between 5-20 minutes, although my boyfriend has waited 30. If it wasn't worth it we wouldn't wait. The rice is amazing, its got a deeper flavor than other Chinese food places and it delicious on its own. They also offer you to get 'gravy' on it from some of the dishes, it just makes it even better. I think I've asked to sample everything over the times I've been in there but I always end up with sesame or sweet and sour chicken, its hard to get away from these classics when they do them so well. The cheese rangoons are one of my favorite things ever. I lay away at night thinking of the crunchy, creamy goodness of those rangoons. The true secret gem at Fast Wok is the spicy mustard the owner makes. I always get a cup of it and it will clean out your sinuses. It is way better than any of the stuff you get out of the little packets at other restaurants. I've taken a few extra cups of it and used it in other stuff at home, she really needs to bottle and sell it! The fact that it is cash only is probably a positive for me because if I wan't I would be over there 3-4 times a week. I could live off of Chinese food. The place is a little dirty, and the rules and regulations posted on the walls (e.g. Limit 5 napkins per dinner) gives the place a "Soup Nazi" vibe.
