I am born and raised the east side and let me say.. fast wok has been an absolute staple for my entire life. I remember when I was in elementary school going to grab some after school at Eastgate mall with my mom. Fast wok pre-Covid would have 5 million stars from me. Ever since Covid they got rid of beef dishes because it is "too expensive". Here we are almost 5 years later and still no beef. The chicken dishes have always been dry to me which is why I favored the beef. Because of this I'm only giving 3 stars. I do not like the chicken and I don't think it's worth it to only go back for the rice. I tried to give it a shot when I was there but it just is not the same. I had been hearing about this place for a while now... since I have moved to Indiana. My co-workers would go on and on about how delicious the food is. I do have to say that I agree, it smells, tastes and looks delicious. I am pretty sure no matter what I ordered it would have tasted good. I went there in hopes of having broccoli beef and shrimp eggroll (since I have not found a place in Indiana that has stepped up to that plate). I was told whatever they had made is what they serve. I was hoping for beef dish, all they were carrying today was Chicken. So, I got the combo, sweet n Sour Chicken and Chicken with Broccoli I was not disappointed, it was very good. However, I really wanted to have beef or pork options, and they were just not on the menu. The ladies behind the counter were getting slammed but they kept their smiles on and were doing the best that they could to keep the line going. Be prepared for a line. From what I understand, no matter what time of the day that you go there, a line is definite. So worth the wait though. Just play a game while you stand in line or talk with another of the customers. Fast Wok is an eastside staple. Local, small business still operated by the owner and her family. The employees are like family and the line, while always long, is like a community. Fast Wok is a Thai and Chinese fusion, with signature dishes from each culture, and the food is thoughtfully prepared with care, the flavors blend in perfectly with each other--- and entirely different experience than you get from going to any ol' Chinese restaurant. If you have 1-2 hours to spend in line, I highly recommend Fast Wok. I literally don't even eat Chinese food from anywhere else. So I haven't eaten food from Fast Wok in years and years. I didn't care for it back then. When I saw all the excitement over their re-opening, I thought I'd give it a try again to see if maybe I just caught them on a bad day. My husband brought us home two containers of food to share. There is tons of food! We probably could've shared one. The only dish I halfway liked was the pad Thai, although there were too many sprouts in it for my liking. The other dishes all seemed to taste similar and the chicken was kinda tough and dry with little taste to it. When I was eating the food, I remarked my lips were coated in oil. My husband also remarked that the food was greasy/oily. I went to put the leftovers away (ie they'll sit in the fridge for two days before I throw them away) and I noticed a puddle of oil under the pad Thai (see picture). I've been here twice just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Both times, the food was mediocre at best. The rice is mushy, the chicken is overcooked, everything is under seasoned (unless you really like salt). It's not at all worth the long sloooooow lines, not even at the low price. And cash only? In 2024? Really? Is this a money laundering front? The sides, like egg rolls, rangoon, and "chips", are solid. I wouldn't wait in a 30+ minute line for them, though. read more

This place is amazing and has never lost it's touch even after closing for the short period of time they did. I have been eating at this restaurant since it was at the Eastgate Mall. The homemade gravies are what make the dishes so exquisitely delicious and unique. I love every dish they have. I have tried every dish they offer and my top favorites are the Gai Pad King which is the hot Thai chicken. I also love the garlic chicken and the Mongolian chicken. The pad Thai is also very delicious. The lines are longer then they used to be in the past but the wait is so worth it. I love this place and the customer service has been the same for years and the workers have been the same as long as I can remember. The owners are friendly and treat you like family. Hideous building and location, but still 5 stars. If you saw the restaurant and surrounding area, you might be reluctant to try the food. I know that is what I thought, originally. The decor is 'Mid Century Church Basement'. This is not a place to bring a date unless they are a 'Foodie' impressed with hidden gems. The food is incredible! My family will wax poetic about Fast Wok at least once a week. Even my kids adore the food. We especially enjoy the Gai Pad King & Garlic Chicken (Beef Pepper Steak, but with chicken instead) and Egg Rolls. The first time I went, I was hesitant to get the Egg Rolls. Most places just have a lot of breading and little filling. The owner saw my reluctance and offered a sample. These are now my kids' favorite. I prefer more cabbage, however. The rest of us will get the two-dish meal of Gai Pad King (always available), & Garlic Chicken (Tue/Thur/Sat) with fried rice. It is even good cold or reheated. The soy sauce is terrible, though. They use those packets of soy sauce that are too salty and watered down. We always get takeout, so it was only an issue once. My husband is a gifted chef, so my family appreciates good food. I just can't speak about it highly enough. I am so grateful that it is open again. The owner is such a kind lady. I hope she is doing well. There are only five negatives: 1) The way it looks 2) The lines that go out the door and into the parking lot. I have no idea why it takes so long to scoop up the food and take my money, but it does. It boggles the mind. 3) She has a menu that rotates by the day of the week, so you might not get your favorite dish on a certain day. The Gai Pad King is always available, however. 4) Closed on Sunday (good for you! You deserve it!). 5) Soy sauce is cheap and served in plastic packets. I grew up and live on the East side and have been coming here since I was a kid. It never gets old! I absolutely love the variety and it brings some change to the restaurant scene on the east side. Yes, there is always a line, but it's always worth the wait. The workers are always so kind and patient. I typically order beef and broccoli & szechuan chicken with rice. Well I had always wanted to try this place, they are always busy! So last night was the night. I had a party of 5 and was going to order ahead and pick it up... well.. no one answers the phone so off I go to just stand in line and order the 5 meals. I arrived and was 6th in line, not bad, but as I got to the door, it said.. no beef dishes available... great, I had to call two people and change their order. Was going to pay by credit card but they only take cash... oh well. Now for the good, their prices are really reasonable and they give you big portions of food! I had the Mongolian chicken and it was fantastic! The food was a solid 4 to 4.5, but the long wait and lack of food, made me only give them 3 stars. read more

From all the talk, I was expecting this hole-in-the-wall in an old bank to be a hidden gem amongst all the other Chinese offerings on the east side. I was prepared to wait in line for the twenty minutes it took, but was disappointed by the mediocre product. It's a weird little place and it's pretty cool that they're doing their own thing, but the process needs to be streamlined. They only accept cash, so I had to stop at an ATM nearby (and pay a $3.75 fee). With all the affordable options for payment now there's really no excuse for them not to change this. The food itself was pretty blah, but in a different way from other storefront places. They clearly hand cut the chicken dishes, but they were tough, under seasoned, and salty. There was a big maraschino cherry in the sweet and sour chicken, so if this is not your thing, avoid it. They had about nine very similar chicken dishes on the steam tables and no other options; no tofu, no beef, and no pork entrees from what I could tell. Everything is prepared ahead of time but they are incredibly slow at checkout. The cashier was helpful and pleasant (even if she merely moseyed to the back for too long to grab everyone's cheese Rangoon) but the first worker dishing out the order seemed stressed and unhappy and I left kind of concerned for her. I'm not planning on going back to give it another chance since all of the circumstances seemed pretty normal for their operations and I only picked at my food before tossing it. They DO have great egg rolls and okay fried rice, so if you're going to chance it, at least make sure you get some of these! read more

You get a ton of food for a super low price and the fried rice is some of the best! My favorite dish is the Szechuan chicken. My husband and I have been coming here for over 10 years. It's unfortunate that they are still cash only - still long lines - still very slow. I also don't think the customer service is super great. Back when I was 19, we ate inside and I got the same thing I always do - the Szechuan chicken. Something about it this day was off, the taste and the smell. So I asked my husband if he could go ask if I could try something else and return this one. The owner literally went off, yelling in front of everybody in line that she's never changed the recipe and I must be either crazy or pregnant. After that we didn't return for a few years. So be prepared that if anything is wrong with your meal and you bring it up - it likely won't be handled professionally. But I do hope that's gotten better over the years! read more

This place has great food and is always busy. If there's a line, food has to be good. I have had pretty much everything here and I'm never disappointed. The place is "somewhat clean" but much room for improvement. I always get mine to go. The establishment only takes cash and that has been since they were located in Eastgate Mall. They are somewhat slow with service. My wife said she will never come back because of waiting in line. She is not patient. Me on the other hand, take life at a different pace. The food is good and it's worth the wait. Please try the Gai Pad King. Good stuff. My wife is currently getting a order for me and vowed never to return again. The chicken fried rice is good. The Thai beef and Thai chicken are very spicy so be aware, it has a slow burn. A lot of the dishes look the same, chopped up meat with chopped up veggies in sauce. The price is good and the lady piles on generous servings but I'd say the taste is mediocre. Everything is drowning in oil so it feels heavy really quickly. I made a special trip today to the East side for Fast Wok. It's that good. For $7.50 I got the combo of Chicken with bean sauce and Gai Pad King (spicy chicken) GRAVY ON THE RICE!! I always enjoy the Mongolian chicken also. Egg rolls are good also. Ambiance is divey but there is always at least a few people in line for a reason. The food is awesome and portions are huge. I work on the east side of indy almost to Hancock County and I have always seen this little restaurant but never really thought anything about it until recently. A couple of my customers kept telling me about this llottle Chinese place close to the store and that if I liked Chinese I should check it out. But they warned me that it was a cash only establishment and that there was usually a line and an extremely long wait. So one day after work I decided I was going to try and check it out on my way home and see what the hype was all about and thankfully I had cash that day. Let's just say appreances can be very deceiving, this place just look all that pretty but when you walk in your stomach immediately starts growling it just smells so good. So thankfully this day I went in was super slow for them because of everything currently going on. So I waited in line and tried to figure out what I wanted. I ordered there combo platter which came with a very sizeable portion of fried rice and then I had to pick my 2 entrees. I chose the Mongolian beef and the Mongolian chicken. And then asked for a side order or a pork egg roll. The beef wasn't the best beef I had ever had Chinese wise but still delicious. The chicken on the other hand was fantastic and had just the right amount of spice to it. And the egg roll apparently had just come out and so I burnt my tongue from that. Overall 5 star rating and look forward to going back and trying something new. Their menu changes every other day. read more

Let's get the cons out of the way. It's a cash only place, no exceptions. If you go around lunch time or that right after work 5 pm time, you will be standing in a long long long line. Is it worth it? To me, totally is. I have been a faithful customer for at least 10 years now. Before I could drive I would beg my brothers to drive me during random cravings. Now I drive here at least once a month, and my boyfriend randomly will be like you know where we should go? :) The food is Thai/Chinese. You know general tsos, sesame, etc. Wether you are grabbing take out or eating in, you will be served your food on a to-go container. They will pack it! Loads of food. And pricing? Around $6.50 for one meat, $7.50 for two. My favorite is the Mongolian chicken. And the cheese rangoons. You musttttt try the cheese rangoons. It's the snack you eat on your drive home. Overall it is not your high-end Asian cuisine and you shouldn't expect that. But it is so good. Great price and you will be full at the end of the day! read more

Always busy. The staff is fast, friendly and helpful. They have a rotating menu, so look it up before you go so you know what they have that day. Food quality is good, flavor is good, serving size is enormous, prices are good and value is excellent. All that said, it is still Chinese carry out. The sign says Chinese and Thai food, however it's more Chinese. There were two Thai options, but one was listed at a 10/10 spicy so that wasn't an option for me! The food is good, but it's similar to what you would get in a mall food court. I got the combo with two entrées and white rice and the person I was with got the same (but with different entrees). We both liked everything we had. I think for better rice, request the white rice because it's in a steamer in the back. Fried rice is on the buffet line. It is cheap food! So for two people with two combos and a drink we paid $15. Theyve finally updated the restaurant- new floors, tables, chairs, lighting fixtures. Definitely looks better than before! I've been eating here since 20 years ago when they were inside Eastgate Mall, and the lines were just as long then as they are now. Food worth waiting in line for, sweet! The food is the best Chinese and Thai food for miles! I actually will drive 20+ miles to eat here when I am craving this type food. They rotate their menu slightly every other day, and everyone is always served in a large white Styrofoam carry out box. You either get 1 item and rice, or 2 items and rice from their choice of about 12 hot food items. I get the spicy stuff, but all is good. The cheese rangoons and egg rolls are great too. They give you the largest portions at the lowest prices, cash only. I am stuffed if I eat everything. Most customers take home half their food, as that's all they can eat. The same owner has operated this place since the beginning. And she will always give a big smile and say HI as she brings out more freshly cooked food from the kitchen. This is one of my all-time FAVORITE places to eat. Large portions, low prices, and the BEST TASTING Chinese food around. What more could you ask for?!? read more
