Went to the bank, and as I was leaving, I noticed the Chinese restaurant next door in a little strip center with 2 other businesses. I recognize this place from someone I follow on Instagram, but they never showed the name, but just the outside structure. I knew this was the place. It's hard to find good Chinese food in Indiana. I need to stop comparing the food to where I used to live in California. I went inside and it's 2 brothers I think that own the place. The one doesn't speak English at all. I mean, he understands if you ask about wonton soup, but he can't explain what's in it. The brother came in and spoke a little more English. They still followed very much when we were in full swing of covid. There is a counter between the cash register and you. They have a bucket to put your receipt in. They have the card reader by the bucket and have a big tray to pass back and forth if you pay cash. A few people came in, obviously, were regulars. They ordered, and the owners knew them, and they left, and I am still figuring out what to order. I ended up ordering egg foo young combo, which has chicken, shrimp, and beef, sweet and sour pork, beef with broccoli, 2 egg rolls, and chicken lo mein. They make everything fresh and to order. You can see them cooking your meal. After they finished, the guy offered to help me with the box to the car. It was a big box. He was so nice he explained everything. The sauce for the egg foo young and the sweet and sour pork was put in a separate container so it didn't get soggy. That was very, very nice and made sense. I got home which it was raining and cold. It had taken almost an hour to get home. I was so hungry, and everything smelled so good. I had to warm everything up, which was fine. I was expecting that. The beef with broccoli has mushroom and water chestnuts different, but really good, and the beef was tender, not chewy. The egg rolls were stuffed, and the sauce was so unique it was like an orange marmalade, which was different, but it really went well together. The egg foo young I wish was a little crunchy. When i warmed it, I even did the toaster oven on reheat was a little soggy, but that could have been from the container and the long drive home. Sweet and sour pork did well warmed in the toaster oven on reheat. I didn't try the noodles. I was so full. My other half said they were great. I will definitely be back since I am in the area once a week. I am not sure if you can eat inside. There are 6 tables to eat on if they allow it, which I am not sure. No one was eating inside when I was there, and everyone got it to go when I was there. I spent $51.00 and change. I left a $5.00 tip in the bucket. There were lots of leftovers, and the portions are big.

We keep going back. And the food is still great as is the owner. Went for lunch and got the Tuesday special of the Sesame Chicken.

I had high hopes due to all of the reviews. I am going to say that this was an okay experience. The food was just fine. Takeout was fast, and efficient. I called in an order and got it picked up within 10 minutes. All of the entrees are made with white meat chicken which is a plus for me. I ordered General Tso's Chicken, and it was ok. The rice was drenched in sauce, and the chicken was just ok. I would love to return and try something else-- will updated after second visit.

I find it extremely hard to rate Chinese places in the area because I grew up eating a lot of Asian food and nothing really compares however, I do like to go to various places and order some "basic" entrees to gauge if I'll eat there again. I would visit this place again. It seems to be somewhat of a hole in the wall, located to dry cleaners, in a smaller strip in this neighborhood. I almost missed it. There wasn't anyone in there when I place my carryout order so it was made quickly and immediately so it was fresh. I just got the lunch order of beef lo mein and a hot and sour soup so it was quite affordable. The beef lo mein was enough for two people or two meals and the hot and sour soup was a bit oily.

My husband and I ended up at China Express because our usual place was closed for maintenance. When we walked in we were surprised to see that the place was less like a restaurant atmosphere and more like take out, though there were several small tables if you wanted to eat in. I told the man at the counter that we'd never been there before which didn't earn me a welcome, only a disinterested stare. I continued on and asked if I could have one Egg foo young as a side instead of a whole $11 meal. He walked away to the grill area and said "no". That's fine, it is only offered as a meal and I really wanted to try the egg foo young, so I decided to spend the extra money and figured I'd have leftovers for the next day. I asked if the chicken egg foo young had pieces of chicken in it or just egg ( may have been a dumb question but I legitimately didn't know). This, at least, won me some sort of reaction from the otherwise reaction less counter man. He gave me a look that made me feel stupid for even asking. " Of course it has pieces of chicken, it's chicken" he said scornfully. I went ahead and ordered the $11 egg foo young and General Tso chicken with lo mein. My husband had the same with the exception of having egg rolls instead of egg foo young and rice instead of lo mein. Our food arrived promptly despite the fact that he seemed to be the only person working there. He was running the cash register and the grill. The egg rolls were good. The General Tso's chicken and lo mein, not so much. Both it and the egg foo young were SWIMMING in soy sauce. My husband's food was same. The breaded chicken had no flavor or spice. The egg foo young could have been good had it not been drenched in soy sauce. I ended up throwing away my food after a few bites. It was so salty it honestly felt unhealthy to eat. Close to $50 wasted on this crappy food. I highly DO NOT recommend this establishment. Go to Number One China down the road some. Much better food there.

First time coming here. Food was made fresh to order. The fried rice tasted very good, probably the best part of all the items tried (pics below). Was in the mood for sesame chicken and this one was pretty good, a little too much sauce. It came with green peppers and onions, a little too many onions. As for the chicken and broccoli: the chicken was a bit dry and the broccoli was perfect how it was. The lo mein noodles were very soggy and salty due to excess (oil and soy sauce?). Hard to tell because it was probably mixed with the chicken broccoli sauce. Would definitely return to get the fried rice again though.

I agree with Chuck C. And I like this place better than the Number One China Buffet down the street. This is not a cookie-cutter joint like most other Chinese walk-ups. No back-lit menu pictures. Not a standardized menu. They made their own menu. Decor is a little weird, but okay. It's the same decor, and close to the same layout, as China Express at 5645 N Post Rd, in Indianapolis. http://www.yelp.com/biz/china-express-indianapolis At some point it must have been the same owner, or the same family. However, here (in Carmel) they make the food to order. The food at the one on Post Road was served out of a pot that was made earlier. This is made to order, like most walk-up places. Not worth going out of your way for, but if you want the standard Americanized Chinese menu items, eat in or to go, this place fills the bill if you're in the area. They offer various low-carb (ie, no rice) combos. You might not see it from the street, so look for Dooley O'Toole's, and it is right next door in the same building, facing East.

I mixed some of the white rice in the sesame beef and scooped up a nice mouthful, the sauce actually has a perfect sweet tang to it but I had the most disappointing moment as I chewed. The meat didn't taste like beef and it didn't taste like chicken, I tried another two pieces and couldn't swallow those down either - it also was very chewy but in a squishy kind of way not a tough beef type of way, I don't know how else to describe but it just did not taste or feel like I was eating beef. I decided to try my mango bubble tea and was equally disappointed, it was very flat and watery. I even tried to eat my egg roll but I could only get half way. I ended up just eating the broccoli and most of the white rice but my appetite was gone by then. I ended up throwing everything away. The reviews seemed pretty positive so I'm actually surprised - I don't think I've ever been disappointed with Chinese food before today.

Still one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the greater Indy region. 3/5 stars however because the food was lukewarm and did not seem well-maintained. Despite the good assortment of options to choose from, the buffet didn't seem as clean as I would have liked. If you don't mind these things it's definitely good bang for your buck. My recommendation is to order regular entrees for dinner though. Not sure if it's a different chef or manager during those times but this was my husband's consensus as well. We both have ordered takeout here countless times but decided not to return for the buffet. We like our food hot and fresh and will pay the premium for that in the future. They didn't have palak paneer or paneer tikka masala for brunch either which are what I typically eat.

The orange chicken was really good - like, I'd order that again without hesitation. They give you plenty! I don't even know how I'm going to eat all the leftovers. And of course, lots of giant peppers instead of slicing them down...and a crap ton of veggies without much steak. But that's typical. The shrimp fried rice... Tasteless. I don't usually like to add more soy sauce to my food (and I didn't), but you're gonna need to drizzle the sauce from one of the other meals onto it or SOMETHING because homegirl was tasteless. Disappointing. The shrimp and broccoli was fine - exactly what you'd expect. Everything was packaged well, so I'd say attentive service for takeout. Not sure what it looks like on the inside/bathrooms/cleanliness, etc. since we did takeout, but I would go back for the orange chicken unless I find a place with better + solid shrimp fried rice. P.S. Remember when they used to automatically put eggs in the fried rice without you having to pay extra? I miss those days.
