Imperial Palace is a locally owned family business featuring traditional Chinese cuisine. During our visit, the owner was working alone and the dining room was full. They have only seven tables and those can fill quickly with the lunch crowd. He worked quickly to bring beverages and take orders. I had the Kung Pao Chicken and my husband had the Beef with Broccoli lunches. The food came out in about 15 minutes. Everything is prepared fresh. The egg roll was delicious and light. The ingredients in the Kung Pao Chicken were super fresh and the spice level was on the mild side for me. I wish I had requested more spice. But the freshness of the food made up for the lack of spice. There were two generous portions of rice. The lunch was delicious. My husband loved his Beef with Broccoli as well. They open at 11:00 am and serve lunch and dinner. There is plenty of parking in the strip mall. He does a robust service carry out as well. I'll definitely be back and I recommend. I had been craving Chinese food and saw great reviews about imperial palace while I had time to waste before heading home. The restaurant is located in a strip mall and easy to miss. When you walk in you hear Frank Sinatra playing over the sound system and Marilyn Monroe pictures on the wall. I took a seat and was given a menu with water. I ordered the crab Rangoons because I saw reviews about how big they were. They were the largest I've ever seen. However, the flavor was lacking. I tasted more cream cheese than crab. I could only eat one because they were so large and rich. I also ordered the lunch portion orange chicken with fried rice. Neither was amazing. Both were kind of dry and the chicken was tough. Party of nine. Christmas Day. None of our orders were the same, but everyone liked them. These are Chinese-American standards, but they were freshly made, and nothing from a microwave. Singapore Noodles were a hit. Every dish can have a spice level, if you like spice heat in your food. It's not a vastly-varied menu, but the standards are all there. Their crab rangoons are the triangle-type, four for $7.99 at this writing. They were good but not the best we've had. Fried rice isn't greasy, like other establishments. Overall, we were pretty happy for this family-style meal. There's not a huge amount of seating. You must like Marilyn Monroe, as posters of her are everywhere inside. We didn't mind. The food was good and fairly priced. Not gourmet. No dim sum, but Benyue doesn't even answer their expletive deleted phones anymore. Go here. This spot is a true hidden gem and quite possibly could be the best Chinese spot in Indy. Don't be swayed by the outside aesthetic, because the food is INCREDIBLE. This is my go-to Chinese takeout on the west side. You can really taste the freshness of the veggies, and the food isn't overly greasy or salty. They also serve some of the best crab Rangoon in the city. The place is always clean, and the gentleman who takes orders is always polite and patient. I especially appreciate that the food doesn't have that typical MSG taste. My only complaint is that sometimes the beef in the pepper steak can be a bit chewy. Many years ago I lived in San Francisco. My FAVORITE restaurant food was Ma Po Tofu. I found a couple restaurants that offed the dish. For many years now I have tried and tried to find anything close to what I had. I lived in different cities and never found anything close. UNTIL NOW! I noticed the International Market Place Coalition would be going to the Imperial Palace. I thought I would give it a try on my own. I asked if they offered Ma Po Tofu and they agreed to prepare it for me. It's perfect. It has the perfect balance of meat and tofu but more importantly the correct amount of ginger and toasted sesame oil. After years of searching I finally found my favorite dish. Nice place for a good filling American Chinese fusion lunch. We ordered spice level of 6 (on a scale of 1-10). I would say the spice was reasonable and we could have actually asked for 8. The highlight was Garlic Chicken, possibly due to my Asian roots - packed a punch with garlic, sauce and veggies. The garlic and orange chicken come with a side of steamed or plain fried rice. Hot and sour soup had a unique flavor - which was neither too spicy nor too warm - just the right touch. All in all good good at a very reasonable price - definitely recommend. I read an article by Love Food that rated the best Chinese food in each state and it rated Imperial Palace as one of the best restaurants in Indiana. I went on a Friday evening and they were very busy. The staff were courteous and attentive to their customers. One of the first things I noticed was how clean the restaurant appeared to be! I was so wanting to find my go to place but unfortunately I was disappointed in the food that I ordered! I ordered Pepper Steak, Combination Fried Rice and Crab Rangoon. The Crab Rangoon were gigantic and I thought they were good. I was not impressed with the Pepper Steak because the beef was so tough! The same tough beef was in the rice as well so I didn't enjoy that either! I will try Imperial Palace again because everyone deserves a second chance! read more

Placed a take out order over the phone. Person I spoke with was helpful as this was my first time ordering. Husband drove 30 mins to pick up our food. I was really looking forward to it as I had heard great things about them. I was so disappointed. I will preface this by saying I'm originally from a city that has damn good Chinese food. I will start at the beginning. One container of fried rice had a nice long black hair mixed in the rice. I threw it out but made sure to search through the other rice and noodles before serving it to anyone. 'Crab' Rangoon. Yes they are huge, yes they are deep fried goodness. But I can't call it crab Rangoon when there isn't even a hint of crab in it. Call it a cheese wonton, but not crab Rangoon. Mongolian beef. I don't even know what to say. Smallest portion of Chinese food I have ever seen. And that was definitely not Mongolian beef. Tasted nothing like any Mongolian beef I have ever had before. Did not even look like Mongolian beef. Just looked like beef with veggies. General Tso's chicken. Was looking forward to this one, but another disappointment. Didn't have the sweet spicy flavor I was expecting. It had a really bitter sour taste. I can't pinpoint what that flavor was, but I did not like that at all. Orange chicken - I didn't get to try it because the kids ate it all. Something was disturbingly wrong with the food we received. The food WAS delivered hot & packaged well. We ordered the Yum-Yum Chicken, General Tso's Chicken, and the Crab Rangoon. We ordered these items based on the reviews and recommendations of folks on Yelp & NextDoor. The good: they do provide cutlery, soy sauce packets, and fortune cookies. The food was packaged well and prepared quickly. The white rice is good. My husband liked his spring roll. The bad: the Yum-Yum Chicken was actually inedible. The texture was kind of chewy (fatty...maybe?) but definitely not how chicken is supposed to be prepared. It wasn't crispy at all. The sauce was a fish sauce (call me crazy but isn't Yum-Yum Chicken supposed to be a Yum-Yum sauce? It seriously wasn't anything but a fish sauce.) It wasn't that I hate fish sauce that made it inedible, it was the texture. It was offensive to the senses. It was like eating a sardine. My husband ordered General Tso's Chicken. Surprise! It wasn't a General Tso's sauce. The chicken was chewy, the sauce was sour and bitter. The Crab Rangoons truly are HUGE! And if you like Crab Rangoon for the crab then you don't want to order these, it's mostly just cream cheese. Personally, I love cream cheese. But I didn't order fried wontons with cream cheese. I can't believe we spent $30 for this food + delivery. The delivery experience was excellent, I'm very happy with that service. But I would never recommend this place. Legit... Chinese invented BBQ and Fried Chicken when Anglo and Saxons were running around Europe in animal skins. Cooking in china is an apprenticeship often where a cook specializes in single dish like Peking Duck or Lions Head or Shenzhen Spare Ribs... I have a feeling the owner of this little place was trained in the east. I happened across this why meeting someone. I will return. I got the YUM YUM Chicken which reminds me of a Peking Duck version of Chicken. The skin flash fried on a roasted chicken meat that was cut and prearranged (see picture). The accompanied spring roll was never frozen. This Roll and the flaky roll was expertly completed and finished around fresh vegetable filling. The Yum yum chicken is aptly named! The chicken is (I think) 2 whole boneless skinless chicken breasts breaded & fried then sliced & covered in salty, sweet, & peppery (black pepper) sauce. It's not spicy at all. The crab rangoon were pretty good. They seem hand made, on the big side, heavy on the cream cheese but light on crab, onion etc. They did send an ample amount of sweet & sour dipping sauce. Their General Tso chicken is also good. Again it seemed like freshly breaded & freshly cooked, tender chicken chunks in that delicious sauce & they ask, when ordering, what spice level & it arrived accordingly.
