Let me start by saying thank you Monk for having one of the best Indians food I can eat. I have been to several different places here in Indiana and so far I love the monk style the service and their food as well. They are pretty fast the place is clean they have a buffet that my husband loves he says is very good reasonable for the price food tastes fresh and it's clean. I'm extremely picky with what I eat I don't do too much spicy so I have a hard time dealing with the foods I pick to eat, but monk had some fish that they made for me and it was delicious not greasy and overcooked it wasn't spicy at all. We try to go to monks once a month because the food can get pretty heavy In your body but we love this place I really recommend this place more than others. read more

This review is for the brunch experience I recently had. The value is excellent. The variety of food to choose from is also pretty great. Still one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the greater Indy region. 3/5 stars however because the food was lukewarm and did not seem well-maintained. Despite the good assortment of options to choose from, the buffet didn't seem as clean as I would have liked. If you don't mind these things it's definitely good bang for your buck. My recommendation is to order regular entrees for dinner though. Not sure if it's a different chef or manager during those times but this was my husband's consensus as well. We both have ordered takeout here countless times but decided not to return for the buffet. We like our food hot and fresh and will pay the premium for that in the future. Wow. What a great find. Looking online the picture looked yummy. I stopped in for lunch and Bam there was a buffet. A lot of variety. I literally tried everything out! Most items tasted excellent my favorite and the name I remember was Black garlic chicken. Fantastic. A lot of chicken, curry dishes, soup, drink and I think there was dessert but overall great experience. I did come for a late lunch so the food was warm. Totally fine. I enjoyed all of my finds this day. Food was well seasoned with veggies and spices I've never heard of! I can't wait to try the buffet now and fresh: probably going to change the stars to 5 lol. The Monk's is an Indian fusion restaurant serving up things like traditional Indian favorites, Chinese, and things like tikka pasta. When you walk in you're greeted by friendly staff and seated. The interior is causal and on a sunny day very bright with the large windows. They have a decent drink menu so you grab an Indian beer while you decide what to order. I decided to try the Manchurian noodles and green chili chicken (curry). It came out fast and I probably ate it even faster. The Manchurian noodles were way better than they should have been. They were savory, sweet and spicy. The star of the show was the green chili chicken though. If you like green chilis you have to try this curry. It's unique and full of flavor. I ordered it spicy but it was still on the mild side, so even if you are afraid of anything being too spicy this shouldn't kill your tongue. We typically order The Monk's to-go but decided to dine-in. My husband ordered the chicken tikka masala which is his favorite. I was wanting something a little different and ordered the paneer kadai masala. The chicken tikka masala was rich, creamy, and perfectly spiced. It was comforting without being heavy and had a sweetness to it. I enjoyed the paneer kadai masala. I could taste the smokiness and it was thicker than the tikka masala. It had a great depth of flavor with the paneer and just the right amount of heat. Of course we had to get the garlic naan with it but it came with rice as well! My husband finished his food and took some bites of mine. There was enough for leftovers the next day for me. Call me old school, but the only small complaint I had was the music. Oh my, when I tell you this is some of the best Indian (fusion) food we've ever had...believe me! My husband found this on Yelp and we stopped in for the lunch buffet - we couldn't be more impressed. The restaurant was very clean, bright, and beautifully decorated. The customers ranged from corporate types to couples to friendly group outings. The buffet has a wide range of options including appetizers and desserts as well. We had so much fun sampling things we'd never had before and of course the classics were *chefs kiss*. Tandoori momos were very flavorful and crispy! A little expensive for what you got though (6 momos). Spicy masala noodles were good but wish they had more stir fry char! This is the first time we are trying out this Indian restaurant. We saw all the great reviews in Yelp and decided to give this place a shot. They serve tasty and delicious Indian meal. They have more like a Indo-Chinese type menu options which are tasty as well. They have a numerous number of vegetarian options and some vegan options as well. Their service was great and helped answer our questions. The inside decor and ambience are great. They have a big parking space in front of them. They do dine in and carry out. We did the lunch buffet and got a chance to try various foods such as tandoor chicken, paneer, chicken curry, biryani, gulab jamun, a sour soup, naan (garlic and regular), among other foods. Overall, the food was great and cost less than $15 which is a steal. However, the gulab jamun was not the best that I have tried but it was alright. The Monk's Fusion Cuisine is the Carmel location of a small but growing chain (currently 9 locations with several in the works) of Indian-Chinese cuisine. While on an event, I stayed at a hotel within a couple blocks. Having just wheeled quite a while, I decided to play it safe and stay close. The Monk's is in a small strip center with accessible parking and a curb cut. The glass-door entryway was pretty workable. There's a small lobby area with dining straight ahead. There's a small outdoor area, though it didn't seem to be in use upon my visit. The area at the cash register into the dining area has some definite accessibility issues, though I was able to make it work. I think a bigger power chair would struggle. If you pull up the Carmel location on the website, rest assured it doesn't look anything like the photos. It's much simpler and actually a relatively small location. It's always a good sign when you enter a ethnic restaurant and see half the diners actually of that ethnicity. I am not an expert in Indian or Chinese - this was going a bit out of my comfort zone, however, I spent some time exploring the menu and definitely found a few things I could easily enjoy. Drinks seem to be primarily consistent with the Indian-Chinese theme. They do not carry iced tea (my usual) and diet coke was in a can (so don't expect refills). They do offer a carafe of water on the table. Our server was friendly though reserved. I ordered Wok Tossed (fried rice) with chicken. The serving size was huge and I didn't come close to finishing it after a hard day of wheeling. Because I'm on the road, I did not take leftovers. I feel awful not eating everything when I dine, but this was a seriously generous serving. I found the rice size generous - the chicken less so. A dining companion felt the same way. This was a solid experience. I won't call it a 5-star, however, I can easily call it a 4-star experience. It was a reminder to me that dining outside my comfort zone can be rewarding as it was a nice meal after a hard day of wheeling. Again, this is about two blocks from Hilton Garden Inn and also very close to Fairfield Inn. I can definitely recommend. read more

If you do a take out lunch rather than the buffet, fair warning, there is easily enough for two meals. So plan to either split or save half for the next day. And when you take in account that you're getting at least 2 meals, the pricing is pretty reasonable. Along with chicken vindaloo, I had the onion samosa and garlic naan, and everything was great. Wanted to give this a place a try based on reviews and it was walking distance from my hotel and it did not disappoint! The building has signs on both ends and an open sign on the end by the road but that is not the entrance it's in the back by the parking lot so I felt a little foolish trying to open the door that is locked. Once I got in they seemed busy but still plenty of tables available but weren't overly friendly and said they needed 5 minutes before I could be seated. Once I was seated in the back it took a while for them to greet me and order but the food made up for all of that! I ordered the green chilli off the Chinese section and garlic naan and those two together were an amazing dinner! The green chili was a complex of layers of flavor with green chilli's and cilantro with the perfect medium heat. Once I spooned that on the garlic naan it made it even better and I couldn't get enough until it was all gone. The server did apologize for the delays and the tail end of my meal which was nice. I definitely want to come back and try more dishes. I really think its cool it's a fusion and have Indian, Thai and Chinese dishes but it makes it hard on what I should choose The place was nice inside with a modern look. I ordered a kids' meal from The Monk's because, although I was hungry for lunch, I wasn't super hungry, but I wanted some butter chicken and naan. I thought I was being smart by ordering a pint-sized portion, but the kids' meal size is huge! The kids' butter chicken meal came with two giant pieces of naan, a vegetable samosa, and a container of butter chicken. It was enough for two meals. Every single thing in my order was super. The naan was warm and soft with slightly charred bits. The butter chicken was rich with tender pieces of chicken. The vegetable samosa was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. My order was a takeout order, which as you know, can be hit or miss. But the food was as fresh and tasty as if I ate it served right in the restaurant. The food here is so delicious. As I was waiting to pick up my takeout order, I saw that they have a number of cake slices in the refrigerated case at the entrance. They also have mango lassi, and some bottled beers. We visited Monks after 8 months, just cause I was missing Indo Asian food which is so popular back in India. Post our visit, I can definitely say service, quality and portions are still the same! I thoroughly enjoyed my chicken Manchuria and Thai Red curry with rice which was so flavorful, with the coconut goodness. Quantities were sufficient for the next 2 meals so I was happy to pay for what I got. It was a busy Friday evening but service was quick and on point. We saw a lot of customers were walk in and grab their takeaways, pretty diverse crowd which spoke of the customers liking. The showstopper was Gulab E Gulkhand which is dried milk dumplings fried and soaked in sugar syrup. The twist here was filling it with Gulkhand which is a sweetener made of rose petals and sugar. The milk combination with the Rose sweetner added such divine floral notes and balanced out the sweetness of the sugar syrup. Of course, didn't click a pic devouring the goodness! The Monk's is my go-to for butter chicken and chicken tikka masala in Carmel. I highly recommend their manchow soup, their tandoori chicken momos, and their Monks fries for soups/starters. Their drums of heaven look great, but I have yet to try those. They will be on my bucket list for next time. Every time I visit The Monk's, their service is great, and the restaurant is very clean. The only item I was not too fond of was the cheese naan, as it was not very cheesy. Otherwise, I have loved everything I tried from this restaurant and will continue to visit frequently. read more

This place is a hidden gem. Quick and attentive service with plenty of parking out front. The food was amazing especially they offered a wide variety of vegetarian options which is hard to find in Indiana. You'd be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't come here. I quite enjoyed my time at The Monk's. The menu was a bit overwhelming, but given this was our first time, my friend and I decided to stick with the basics. -The mango lassi (not pictured) was quite good, always one of my favs. -The vegetable samosas were average, I'd say. -The chicken tikka masala (yes yes as a half-Indian, I know, basic)--was good and not too heavy. I'll be ordering the spicy next time (though next time instead of the CTM I'll probably try the chettinad or nalli rogan josh). -The lamb biryani was spot on, 100% my favorite, would recommend. As far as Indian food goes, I really liked it! And there were definitely a good mix of Indians and non-Indians dining. This is a great place to take your family and/or friends-- I think everyone can find something they like. It's even easier with free parking and reasonably fast service. There was maybe 5 other tables in the place (pretty empty) we were seated quickly, and he came and took our orders.... After about 10 min we asked "Hey can we have our drinks?" Which we thought were getting made in the back (the mango drink).... Nope out of the cooler less than 10 feet from us. About 10 min later they bring everything.... My appointment was just a mile away from Monk's and I decided to stop for lunch. The interior is attractive with several 4-top tables with some with booths. The buffet is in the back within a separate area. There is lots of 4-tops in front of the very large buffet. I was greeted by a nice gentleman who ask if I wanted to try the weekly buffet (afforable $14.00 Mon-Fri 11:00 - 3:30) but I wanted to order off the main menu. I had checked out the vast menu on-line so I knew exactly what I wanted to try. The menu is extensive and there appears to be something for everyone. I selected the delicious Sweet Corn Soup with Veggie Spring Rolls as appetizers. The soup arrived incredibly hot and is served with sweet corn and other ingredients in a steaming broth. The Veggie Spring Rolls comes with 4 rolls and a mild, creamy dip. My entree was Butter Masala Chicken with Garlic Naan. This dish is also served with Paneer and Lamb. The Garlic Naan has 4 generous size slices. It was wonderful with the Masala. Unfortunately, all my dishes arrived at the same time. It didn't really give me an opportunity to enjoy everything hot as if they were served separately as Appetizers. My Butter Masala and Naan was luck warm to cold by the time I finished the highly recommended Sweet Corn Soup. It didn't disappoint. The 4 Spring Rolls were filled with finely grated veggies and perfectly cooked. I ordered the soup mild but the Butter Masala was supposed to be medium heat. I'm not sure if they accidentally made the Masala mild because it was missing any heat or much spice. It was good with the Garlic Naan but I missed the spice and heat. The pastry case, as you walk in, looks amazing. I had to try one of the pastries after seeing the case.The pastry was 3 layers of delicious, light chocolate mousse between layers of a chocolate cake. I would order again and probably end up taking most home as today. If you have a chance to check-out the buffet it has a nice selection of different types of Indian favorites. I couldn't actually see all that was available as several customers were filling their plates. There was a nice crowd by the buffet and everyone seemed pleased with the selection. I would say the service could be improved and I deducted a star because of him never checking on me once after taking my order. I wasn't surprised with prices as they are typical for most Indian restaurants now. It is a little pricey but I basically have another meal for later.
