I haven't had Chinese in a while so I decided to DoorDash an order of Sesame Beef, a shrimp egg roll and a mango bubble tea! My order arrived surprisingly quickly and smelled great! I mixed some of the white rice in the sesame beef and scooped up a nice mouthful, the sauce actually has a perfect sweet tang to it but I had the most disappointing moment as I chewed. The meat didn't taste like beef and it didn't taste like chicken, I tried another two pieces and couldn't swallow those down either - it also was very chewy but in a squishy kind of way not a tough beef type of way, I don't know how else to describe but it just did not taste or feel like I was eating beef. I decided to try my mango bubble tea and was equally disappointed, it was very flat and watery. I even tried to eat my egg roll but I could only get half way. I ended up just eating the broccoli and most of the white rice but my appetite was gone by then. I ended up throwing everything away. The reviews seemed pretty positive so I'm actually surprised - I don't think I've ever been disappointed with Chinese food before today. read more

Got take out over the weekend. The person taking the order over the phone was very short. When I went to pick it up, the person at the front barely acknowledged me and did not make me feel welcomed for ordering. I ordered the kung pao chicken, my girlfriend got the chicken broccoli and we got spring rolls for an appetizer. It was packaged nice and neat, and it looked tasty. However, the buck stops there. I was very disappointed with my kung pao chicken. Although it looked good, it had essentially no taste. I am not kidding -- it was so bland I legit thought I might have lost my sense of taste or smell and thats why I couldn't taste anything. But then I tried a bite of my girlfriends and hers did have more flavor. All in all, I picked at about a third of the food and threw the rest out. Since it had no flavor, I felt like I was eating greasy mush. The spring rolls were not much better, they had a processed, plastic taste. My girlfriend wouldn't even try one. I had half of one and we threw the rest out. Needless to say, this was the worst Chinese food I have ever tried, and unfortunately we threw out much more than we ate. Very average Chinese cuisine that won't offend you but definitely won't leave you impressed. I ate in store from their dinner menu and I think that results in better quality food than takeout, so look at other reviews for takeout disappointment! I thought everything was pretty good, and not a bad deal either. The crab rangoon was frankly heavenly. I ate 6 of them and could have eaten twice that without a second thought. Staff were nice and quick, they aren't there to mess around! I was pretty sad to see they haven't gotten their buffet back up and running since COVID. I have seen this restaurant as I passed it several times but thought it had spicy food. When I came across this recommendation from a Yelp email, I remembered to research their menu. They have unique Asian dishes I wanted to try on Christmas day. I called in my order; when confirming the cost, I was informed that their prices have increased due to inflation. I decided to go ahead and try the half-sized smoked duck for $15.99; I passed on the $11.99 baby choy and shiitake mushrooms. I did not care for the smoked scent, but the duck was deliciously smoked in flavor. I was told that the duck would be warm and not hot. I took my order home and then realized that the hotness I felt was from the unexpected side container of white rice; I bought the duck to go with my mix of jasmine brown and white rice steaming as I went to buy my takeout duck. I wish the duck was hot because it tastes oddly with hot rice. My entree came with a fortune cookie. I have zero problems with admitting that I'm an unabashed lover of American-style Chinese food. Fried chicken feet and pig's blood soup? Heck no -- get the eff out of here with that. Fried rice and sweet-and-sour chicken? Now you're talking. I like what I like when it comes to Chinese food. Luckily, I found a lot of what I like, and it was made superbly, at Sichuan Chinese Restaurant. They have a traditional Chinese menu, and then a menu for people like me, which includes all your standard Chinese food fare, like beef and broccoli and protein doused in sweet sauce. I did opt to try something from the traditional menu -- the Sichuan spare ribs -- and I'm glad I did because they were really good. Will I get them again if I'm in the mood for Chinese? Probably not, but I'm glad I tried them. We got our food to go, so our sweet and sour chicken came in two containers: the battered, fried chicken was separate from the red sweet sauce. That was nice, because it ensured that our entree didn't get soggy. We also got vegetable lo mein (excellent) and the house fried rice, which included shrimp, pork and chicken. Each entree comes with a side of steamed rice. I tried to order online, but Sichuan is currently not taking orders online. So I had to order by phone. I felt really bad about calling in an order on the phone because it was 9:30, their online ordering system had shut off for the night, and I hate being "that guy" who orders something at the last minute. But I had a really long, busy last 30 minutes at work and was looking forward to Sichuan all day So I placed my order (dan dan noodles, lamb on toothpicks, and beef and broccoli for the girlfriend) and it was ready quick, hot, and fresh. After you start coming here a few times, you get more of a personal touch at the cash register. When I walked in to pick up my order at 9:45, the staff were all sitting down and eating dinner. A man who I presume to be the chef got up to cash me out, but the woman who usually is at the register insisted on taking my order instead. We exchanged pleasantries and I was on my way. Sichuan has both a traditional Chinese menu and a more typical American Chinese menu and you can mix and match your order. I order takeout from here regularly, but the best thing about this place is the lunch buffet! On the weekends they have a traditional Chinese buffet! It is wonderful! They have a selection of cold noodle dishes, steamed buns, egg rolls, noodles, rice, soups, meats, and my favorite sesame balls with red bean paste filling! I love the lunch buffet because I am able to sample many things without ordering a ton of food. The cost of the buffet is $13! The staff is super nice and welcoming! I go often enough that I am likely a familiar face. It is very common to see large groups/families that are Chinese and they talk with the staff in Mandarin. Same owners and staff just a new location. The old dive got a new set of cloths. The interior is stylish and great looking. The lunch buffet is now $8.71. The cold selections seems smaller. All the other hot dishes are the same as before with maybe one new one. The two menus are now combined into one with the best stuff in the back. They added some new dishes. So... this is an actual Sichuan restaurant and it's a good one at that. You shouldn't come here to get General Tso's Chicken or Sweet and Sour Pork (even though they are on the menu). Instead get the Cumin Lamb, Chili Oil Dumplings, Dry Chili Chicken, Braised Fish, Eggplant in Garlic Sauce, Twice Cooked Pork Belly, or Mao's Red Braised Pork. We have been customers of Sichuan for atleast 10 years( since they were on the other side of 116th and closed down and reopened later on in a newer location). Pre-COVID days, their buffet was a great mix of authentic chinese and american-chinese items, but honestly I love their menu items a lot more. Their Singapore noodles and Lo Mein are one of the best in town. On their Chinese side of menu, one has to try their Spicy Oil Dumplings, if you like spicy food! Their dumplings do have a thicker than usual shell. Its not chewy at all, but soft - its just different than the kinds of dumplings covering one is used to. The Green Onion pancakes is crispy with soft interior and overall a wonderful texture and taste. Trying out different items on their chinese menu side can be a hit and miss, but its best to try it atleast once. I'm so happy that this restaurant is open in these tough times. Their online ordering is easy and my food is always ready when I arrive. No-contact process is perfect. Now, the food--their lo mein dishes are great, and broccoli beef, and really everything I've tried. They have a traditional Chinese food menu as well as the more standard one. I have not tried any truly authentic dishes, but friends say everything is very good. Had high hopes for this restaurant for a small family dinner. From the moment we walked in the woman at the desk was rude and "too busy" to answer any questions. We were made uncomfortable while we waited for our children to arrive. The owner came over twice in ten minutes to tell us that how busy they were (only two other tables occupied) to answer questions about the menu. Got worse from there. We were rushed in ordering, rushed in paying, and our plates were removed from the table before we were finished. We ordered five or six dishes for our table and each one was worse than the other, tasteless and cold. The owner kept coming over to ask if we were done when we clearly weren't. Seriously this was within thirty minutes of receiving our meal. As this was my son's birthday, I expressly asked that she give the check to me to be paid. She simply did not listen as the check was sitting in front of my son immediately after we were served. I never write reviews but I have eaten in Chinese restaurants all over but Sichuan was by far the worse. As someone who grew up eating Indo-Chinese food in India, the hunt for traditional Chinese food in America is always on. And now I can add this to my Indy roster - truly one of the best Chinese food I have had in the area and with so many options that my very divisive family (meat eaters, vegetarians, seafood haters) were all able to find something for everyone. If there was one change I would make it would be slightly less breading on certain items, especially the spicy chili chicken. Other than that the spice levels are perfect for a spice junkie, the prices are reasonable, the vibe is inviting, the service wonderful, and plenty of working. I was a bit taken back when I arrived because this used to be a sushi restaurant and is now a Chinese buffet. Not what I originally set out for but why not give it a try. I'm disappointed to say the least. Was not offered a menu, just buffet. Food on the buffet looked as if it had been cooked in the morning and sat out all day or was slim pickings with no sign of being refilled any time soon. Granted I went later for lunch (1:30) I still expect a good meal if I'm paying for it. Taste was yuck or bland. Green beans were too salty, fried fish was overcooked tough and spring rolls were not cooked enough, just to give you an example. This was the absolute worst Chinese restaurant I have ever been to. It might just be the worst restaurant I've been to. Someone mentioned the "ambiance" of this place; if you like dingy places with storage boxes all around and old posters thumb-tacked to the walls, then great. The food was terrible. The sweet and sour chicken was mostly fried dough. Chicken was tough. There were no vegetables ... just fried chicken/dough and red sauce. The fried rice was only rice ... not a veggie to be found. Maybe others like this place; we found it to be beyond poor. Egg roll was decent. Oh, and you grab your fortune cookie out of a box on your way out. Nice sweet lady serving ... but NO frills whatsoever. Go to Panda Express instead. Wish I would have ... it would have also been half the price! read more

As others have commented, the food is acceptable and fairly authentic (opinion from my wife who is from Chongqing). However, as others have commented, they have a visible cockroach problem. I saw a big dude hanging out on a pile of food boxes in the hallway returning from washing my hands prior to our meal. We read about it before visiting and (wrongly) assumed that it would have been remediated (again assuming that they are aware of the situation based on other comments....or spending any amount of time in the restaurant). Apparently, they don't feel like it's a problem. No chance for a return visit. We spent $40 and felt creeped out during the whole meal. I was curious and checked the Hamilton County Health Inspector records. Sure enough, looking at the report dated March 13, 2019.... Several cans of Raid, Raid bait traps and Combat roach gel are located in kitchen and back hallway of facility. They are not labeled for use in a Retail Food Establishment. Next inspection report...a month later (April 12, 2019): Live cockroaches at various stages of life are present throughout the kitchen. When inspector took papertowel out after handwashing, they came from dispenser as well. read more
