Despite the restaurant being empty, I stood at the counter for 10 minutes while staff cooked in the back and completely ignored me. We visited Hong Kong this past Friday afternoon for an early dinner. It is to go only which is fine. The back of house is still closed off from the front via plexiglass and a window box to receive your food. I assume this is leftover from COVID-19. We ordered via the qMenu app which was quick and easy and allowed for payment on pickup. I arrived and the food was finished and ready for pickup. Pickup was quick and easy. We ordered a sweet and sour chicken combo with chicken fried rice and and egg roll, a small sweet and sour chicken, a teriyaki chicken combo with chicken fried rice and egg roll and an order of small beef lo mein. I'll just say, other than the food being hot I can't say that we were very impressed. The food was fresh but almost everything was lacking in flavor. The sweet and sour chicken was hot and fresh but the sauce was not as good as others that I have had. The chicken was all white meat and the coating was done to perfection, but bland as can be and the sauce lacking as it did, couldn't save it. My wife's teriyaki chicken again was hot and fresh but lacking in flavor. There was a good amount of sauce to it, but didn't add much in the way of flavor. The chicken fried rice, again hot and fresh but no real flavor. It did have a good amount of white meat chicken in it though which is a plus. The egg rolls in the combos as well, sound like a broken record here, but hot and fresh with not much flavor. Some seasoning would be a great addition to all of the food. Maybe they have had complaints in the past of items being too spicy or salty etc and have adapted to those thoughts. Who knows but flavor that food up. The only redeeming food item was the beef lo mein. My wife had that as well and said that it was very tasty and she enjoyed it quite a bit. It is a toss up as to whether or not we would try this restaurant again. read more

My first experience ordering from here was terrible, only the spring rolls were good. $37. I do not recommend the general tso's chicken. Second order today, totally different! Ordered the Singapore chicken mei fun and kung pao chicken - both were very good. Spring rolls still good, the crab wontons are a nope for me. But glad to see it can be better. Will update review after next order from here to be fair, I'd give 3.5 stars if it was an option, probably szechuan or garlic chicken. Had some food delivered yesterday and it was amazing!!! Loved the options, the menu was comprehensive, and the prices are pretty reasonable too. Ordered the Wonton Egg Soup, Spring Rolls, Egg Roll and a Chicken & Vegetable stir-fry. Added egg and tofu to the dish, and am so glad I did! Portions were huge, and everything tasted sooooo good. The Egg Soup arrived hot, rolls were crispy, and sauces were provided, which were awesome. The Chicken & Vegetable stir-fry was everything I wanted: lots of veggies and meat. Sauce was separate, which was great, and the delivery arrived as scheduled. Loved how they called me to check how I wanted my egg done. To me, Hong Kong is a hidden gem in Carmel and I'm so glad that we found it amidst the COVID madness. The food is really delicious. We have so far tried hunan chicken, Kung pao chicken, Szechuan chicken, sesame chicken, chicken in garlic sauce and Kung pao shrimp along with vegetable lo mein and none have been disappointed so far. This restaurant is just your average Chinese restaurant with a few perks. I always order takeout and the restaurant is the closest one on this side of the city. One thing I can say about this restaurant is that it is fast. I've called and they say my order is ready in 10 minutes. One time I called and they said it would be ready in about 15 minutes. I got there early, and it was ready in 8 minutes. And the food is always piping hot! So even if it took me longer to get there, the food was hot. I've ordered from Hong Kong three times before. Twice I had the orange chicken combination dinner and once I've had the Mongolian beef combination dinner. Both came with an egg roll and fried rice. The Mongolian beef was pretty good. There was way more vegetables than beef, and the beef that was there has a strange texture, but the saucy vegetables were really yummy! Now the orange chicken is really good, but it's a little different than what I am used to. Every other time I've had orange chicken at any other Chinese restaurant, I've always had to wonder why they called it orange chicken... because it didn't have any taste of oranges. But not here. At Hong Kong, there are actual oranges in the sauce with the chicken. (Ok not actual whole oranges, but like there are orange peels in the sauce). It's just really strange to me. So just beware that the orange chicken can be a little overbearing with the orange flavor. I don't have any pictures because the fork is already in my mouth before I can pull up my camera. But overall, it's your average Chinese restaurant. It was good enough and close enough to bring me back twice and probably a few more times in the future. read more

Unsure cost but I think it's free. A nice feature considering doordash and others are so expensive. 3. Generous portions in reusable containers. 4. Family affair. A younger kid helped me. I love that. 5. On the online ordering, you can choose your pick up or delivery time. Either right away, or several hours in advance. Food was good for the most part. The chicken in the Pu pu platter was very chewy, overcooked, which made it a bit inedible and the pot stickers were a little burnt. During COVID times, it was nice to pick up from a place as efficient as Hong Kong. Their was a window that separated customer and cashier with a microphone that and speaker that allowed communication. The food was average for Chinese takeout. The shrimp with garlic sauce was filled with large shrimp, but the sauce was too sweet (I forgot to take pictures of it). My friends got the chicken lo menu and complained about a lack of actual chicken in the dish. The food is pretty good but they have changed their szechuan sauce from the days when this place was called Rice Cooker. I was surprised how different the sauce was. In fairness, I think they tried to warn me that the sauce was maybe not what i was anticipating but it was lost in translation. We ordered pork chow mei fun, crab Rangoons, chicken fried rice and general tso's chicken. Here is the problem: I had a coupon that said if my order was $40 or more they would have thrown in some free crab Rangoons. My bill was $33 bucks and I tipped $2. Then after I paid I forgot i was supposed to order crab rangoons anyway, so i did so, which were $5.40..so combined I spent over $40 including tip. Yet they would not honor the coupon. I thought that was kinda shady, it wasn't like their computer wouldn't allow it. It is that THEY wouldn't allow it. The staff was friendly but i thought the fact I spent over $40 total in one visit including tip and they didnt honor the coupon was a cheap way to make or break a customer relationship. I would probably return to this place because the food was pretty good, although the chow mei fun was short on pork and not as flavorful as other places...even the Chinese buffet in town has better chow mei fun. Let's put it this way: wasn't awful but wasn't what I expected either. Last thing: as soon as you walk in, the place smells FOUL. Maybe it is the grease from the kitchen but it smells like sewage. The dining room could be cleaner and more inviting. I did appreciate being able to see the kitchen from the order counter and it looked clean so that was a huge plus. All in all, not as good as the Rice Cooker days but still a decent place for Chinese food if you live nearby and are craving some fried rice. I have to write this review solely b/c ....well I order here at least once a week and I haven't written anything about it. :) Let's just say that it's Chinese. There is nothing SUPER special about Hong Kong but I am a FAN b/c - a) they deliver - this is a big deal for a mother of two AND someone who works from home who forgets to eat. b) they are super friendly and c) it's consistent. I always get the beef lomein (sp?) and/or the broccoli chicken combination. Both are fresh and in my opinion NOT as greasy as some other Chinese food places. The broccoli is always just the right amount of crunch and the chicken isn't grissly or gross. I really like the crab rangoon too. Too bad for Hong Kong that I am a very strict diet and not indulging nearly as much as I used to but when I do get Chinese, this is my local area "go to". I don't think I'd go out of my way for it but it's great for the Brookshire neighborhood :) read more
