We haven't been to Peking for a long time due to quality issues. Tonight my husband decided to give Peking another chance. They sit in a small strip center close to Lowes. They offer all the regular Chinese fare and service is fast. Orders typically take 10 minutes. Orders can be phoned in or placed at the counter. There are two small tables if you need to dine in or while you wait on your order. The majority of their business is carryout. We both ordered the Special Combination Dinner served with fried or white rice plus an egg roll; his order was Hunan Beef and mine was Kung Po Chicken. We also ordered a quart of Wonton Soup to share. Both of our orders were terrific, spicy hot, generous portions, tender meat, fluffy rice and the eggroll was tasty. Another favorite are the Chef's Specialties, especially the Happy Family served with jumbo shrimp, sliced chicken, lobster, beef and pork with assorted veggies in a delicious brown sauce. These guys know how to package to go orders so they make it home safely. I'm so happy we gave Peking another chance. read more

Unfortunately I find the food here to be just about average. Not really bad, but also not really good. The meat on the beef sticks as well as in the beef & broccoli was quite chewy and grizzled, which I do not care for. The broccoli was rock hard, but the taste was good though. The hot and sour soup had a nice taste, but was a bit gelatineous, which is not my thing. The crab rangoon came in triangles. A bit 'empty' with air pockets inside, but good taste. The pork sweet and sour was quite good actually. The sauce came on the side which preserved the crunch a bit. Like I said, just your average place. read more

This hole-in-the-wall Chinese takeout/eat-in place has been tucked next to the Lowe's on the Westside of Indianapolis for more than 20 years! The food is great, comes out quickly and is so good! Every time I've been there, there has been a steady stream of customers coming in to either pick up or order at the window. We've tried the Hunan Beef (very very spicy), the Beef & Chinese vegetables, Chicken & Chinese vegetables, Beef & Peppers and the Vegetable and the Vegetable egg roll. The only thing good about this place was the food was HOT. The service was horrible and the food was bland and sloppy!!!! The lady took the order and the cooks in the back not wearing any hand protection grabbing noodles out a tray to cook with bare hands and then wiping his nose with the same hand as he cooks is very VERY unsanitary!!!! Needless to say I didn't eat the lo mein I ordered so I went to eat my chicken wings u can tell that they were pre marinated and refrigerated for some time because the meat itself was discolored and the cook fried them to a crisp where you wouldn't see the discoloration. Overall this place was nasty as well. They try to be considerate of the pandemic and provide plastic cutlery for you to grab but why serve those utensils where everyone else can touch them? So with that said they weren't wrapped. Be mindful of the cashier ringing up your bill as well, she overcharged me for what I ordered and didn't even give me WHAT I ordered. This small Chinese restaurant is popular for carryout but they do have a small dining area. The service is excellent and prices are great, especially lunch & dinner combos. One of my husbands favorites is the Roast Pork Lo Mein which comes with an egg roll and pork fried rice for $5.99. My choice tonight was the Steamed dumplings (8 per order) with brown sauce and just $3.95 per order. These can be ordered fried or steamed. So good! A quart of Seafood Soup with crispy noodles ($4.95) and a shrimp egg roll ($1.20) was our third order. My son loves the soup and egg rolls. Both were gone in minutes. We can always count on consistency from one order to the next and reasonably priced. This is our preferred Chinese take out restaurant. read more

With a move and a new house comes the search for a new Chinese food place! After a few trials and mostly errors we are finally on the right track! With our order of crab ragoon, pork fried rice, beef and broccoli, and orange chicken we dove into dinner. Everything tasted really good. I'm not even a big fan of crab and I found the seasoning they had in it to be really tasty. The beef and broccoli was great and the sauce was good! The orange chicken was good, but there were a few larger than average (dime size) chunks of orange peel in the sauce, I first thought it was ginger but I was wrong. The small sizes are definitely small, I wish we would have ordered the size up, but we know better for next time. Also, the staff inside were great and really apologetic about the little longer wait due to a very large order from someone who had called in just before i called our order in. Overall I really liked it and I think we have found our Chinese food place with our new home! read more

The woman "running the show" was angrily yelling at the man/assuming husband right in front of 6 customers. When we walked in to order, it took her three minutes to come to take our order because she was eating! I just thought that was so rude and unprofessional. Other than that though; I honestly can't complain! The kitchen was EXTREMELY clean, noticeably. Very nice. This isn't often you see that at a restaurant. While waiting on the west side, I stopped in to pick up lunch, wanting to be sure I had enough in case my wife wasn't able to catch lunch that day (4-28-16). I noticed a few seats available in case I wanted to eat while there, but decided to place an order of Broccoli Beef and fried rice to go. I also asked for orange chicken and for an order of crab meat rangoon with sweet and sour sauce. After a brief wait, my order was delivered. From the counter, you can see each meal freshly prepared. The portions were generous and the taste was pretty much as expected...an Americanized version of Chinese food. Very agreeable flavors for traditional palates. I didn't order anything that would let me discern a difference from this restaurant and one of the chain restaurants like Panda Express. So, for me, I would say the two restaurants are interchangeable unless you have a desire for something more exotic. (I did notice a much larger number of options available from Peking.) Finally! After searching and trying almost every Chinese restaurant in Plainfield and Avon I have found a really good Chinese restaurant. I had almost given up hope but using yelp has come through for me again. So, my family and I have tried Peking three times now and so far they have been spot on. The location is tucked away but just off 465 & 10th St. Indianapolis. We have tried the egg drop soup, hot & sour soup both were really good, some of the best I have had. Of course the kids get orange chicken with crab rangoon and my husband likes the general tso's chicken combination plates. I like to have variety plus I get to learn the menu. I had the kung po chicken the first time and it was very good, the second time was the S16-San see in garlic sauce; delicious. It was a combination of beef, chicken and pork loaded with vegetables. It doesn't come in the combination plates but it's ok because I had three meals out of it (I just got over a stomach virus) and I enjoy leftovers. This last time I was just in the mood for GTso's also very good. So what makes Peking different from all the others well first off no MSG! Fresh tasting and the orders have always been correct. The woman that operates Peking is very nice and you can even see your food being prepared. Take-out is for sure their primary business due to their small dining area but always busy. Probably the cleanest restaurant I've been to. This is the best Chinese Restaurant that I have been to in the Indianapolis Area. The food tastes great, and you can ask for no MSG if you don't want any. The service is good and relatively fast for a Chinese Restaurant. What makes this stick out above most of the others is that it is very clean. A lot of the Chinese Restaurants in the Indy area are very dirty and dingy, but at Peking they seem like they care about their building and its cleanliness and employees. I will sit down and eat at the restaurant instead of ordering carry out like I do in most because I am not turned off from the atmosphere in the restaurant. Over all, I rated a 5/5 because this is about as good as it gets in the way of Chinese Restaurants around Indy. I would recommend anyone to try Peking (especially their General Tso's Chicken or Teriyaki Chicken). Eat in or carry out, this Chinese restaurant is great! read more
