Chicken Fried Rice

The food was amazing and the employees were the best I can't wait to eat here again what a amazing place i highly recommend this place to people

Sweet and sour chicken
Anastasia M.

First time here and it was just awful. We usually got to China One down the street but they were closed and figured "you can really mess up rice and sweet and sour chicken". We were very wrong. Rice was mushy and flavorless, sweet and sour chicken was soggy, Crab Rangoon was dry and basically empty, chicken wings were just okay, basically the only thing edible. $70 in the trash

48.00 of straight trash!!!!!!! Egg rolls which were cabbage rolls!!!!!!! Pork lo mein was actually fettuccine noodles with chicken!!!!!!!! The Mongolian beef was all onions, and rough and tough beef!!!!!!!! Crab rangoon was not sweet, but barely stuffed!!!!!!! With their sweet-and-sour sauce you might glow neon red after eating!!!!!!! Rice is overcooked and mushy!!!!!!! With all this being said you might want to go down to China one!!!!!!!

Very different cashew chicken

Located in the warehouse/industrial area of southwest Indianapolis, we came across Egg Roll King. I checked yelp! for reviews and they came up mostly very positive, so we decided to give it a try. It's Monday, and there is a line at the counter. My wife is crazy about crab rangoon (which is what probably caught her eye as we were driving by), so we ordered that, along with sweet and sour chicken, and cashew chicken. The lunch specials come with fried rice, egg roll, and a choice of hot and sour soup or egg drop soup. Our order was taken quickly, and were given soup and our drinks. My wife had the hot and sour soup, and devoured it. The egg drop soup seemed a bit thick, and needed more flavor but was edible. The crab rangoon arrived quickly, and were huge. They were crispy but tore apart easily, exposing melted cream cheese with large bits of surimi (imitation crab). The crab rangoon were crispy and tasty, one of the best I have had and better than anything where I live. Our meals quickly followed, and my wife devoured her sweet and sour chicken. I think she was hungry. The fried rice was one of the best I have had for a fast casual meal. The egg roll was hot and crispy, and filled with chopped cabbage and other vegetables. It held up well when slathered in soy sauce. I wasn't too excited about the cashew chicken. The chicken was battered and fried, covered in a gravy-like sauce, and sprinkled with chopped cashew pieces. But for $4.99, I shouldn't expect much more.

Egg Roll, Crab Ragoon, Pot stickers, Egg Foo Young, Shrimp Lo Mein, Beef with Broccoli

Doesn't look like much when you drive by because it isn't that much. A definite miss on this one. Paid almost $52 bucks for 3 people. We didn't get much either. Overpriced and paid more than we should have for gross food. The shrimp lo mein came with more pepper than shrimp. Beef with Broccoli must've been a vegan dish because you just could not find the beef. My dad got the shrimp egg foo young. They should've made him an omlette instead of what he got. Atrocious and will not be coming back. I'll even skip driving past that establishment again. I recommend a better one located in the Kroger Plaza. China One. Better options and more heapings than what we were given. Would've gone to China one but they were closed. So we tried this sorry for an excuse Chinese restaurant.

Lunch special

Fried rice and soup has too much black paper. All I can taste is the black pepper. I'll give it another try next time. I'll try a different dish. For $7 for all of this I guess I can't really complain.

Brandon S.

Can't beat the price and it's different from normal carryout Chinese. Seems to be a lot fresher.

Even with the springtime rush making the parking a bit of a challenge, the atmosphere inside is wonderfully inviting. I managed to snag a darling little corner for myself, and the energy was just perfect. The hospitality here is truly top-tier; both the cashier and the gentleman behind the counter are simply lovely. My waiter was beyond charming and presented a menu with an impressive array of sophisticated choices everything from Sichuan Beef Noodle Soup to Steamed Eggplant and Beef Pancakes, with most entrees beautifully priced between $15 and $20. I decided on the Beef Noodle Soup ($12), and oh my goodness it arrived in a mere ten minutes! Talk about impeccable service. The broth was divine, and the meatballs were prepared to perfection. I was so caught up in the moment that I completely forgot to snap a photo before finishing every last bite! It was an absolute triumph of a meal. I am officially obsessed and will most certainly be back with my camera ready next time

One notable exception on the northwest edge of town is Tian Fu. It's in a residential area, in strip mall, with convenient parking. Tian Fu offers authentic Chinese and Japanese (sushi) food. For this day and age, and considering the quality and quantity of the food, the prices were reasonable, and a good value: Soup Dumpling $10.95; Shanghai Rice Cake 11.95; Old Mama's Pickled Pepper Fish $18.95; and Golden Tofu $13.95. The food was great. We would return. Note: there is a similarly named restaurant on the eastern edge of Indy. Not sure if it's under the same ownership. It's on E Washington Street, just west of Rt 465.

It's so much more convenient than driving all the way to the northwest side of Indy. I've been on the hunt for solid American-Chinese food and anything close to more traditional Cantonese-style dishes. Still searching overall, but Tian Fu definitely has some pretty solid options. I specifically go out of my way for their Beef Stir-Fried Rice Noodles (Beef Chow Fun), which I haven't been able to find anywhere else in the city. The noodles have great texture and flavor, and it totally scratches that craving. I also really liked their fried marinated chicken wings, perfect mix of crispy skin and flavorful. I've heard they have a separate Chinese menu you can request, which makes me even more curious to dine in sometime and explore more of their offerings. Overall, I'd recommend them for the variety alone, easily one of the better Chinese food spots in the city, especially if you're on the east side and want something reliable for takeout.

The orange chicken was really good - like, I'd order that again without hesitation. They give you plenty! I don't even know how I'm going to eat all the leftovers. I was expecting the small to be... well, small. Anyway. The pepper steak was just okay. It lacked flavor for me. And of course, lots of giant peppers instead of slicing them down...and a crap ton of veggies without much steak. But that's typical. The shrimp fried rice... Tasteless. I don't usually like to add more soy sauce to my food (and I didn't), but you're gonna need to drizzle the sauce from one of the other meals onto it or SOMETHING because homegirl was tasteless. Disappointing. The shrimp and broccoli was fine - exactly what you'd expect. Everything was packaged well, so I'd say attentive service for takeout. Not sure what it looks like on the inside/bathrooms/cleanliness, etc. since we did takeout, but I would go back for the orange chicken unless I find a place with better + solid shrimp fried rice. P.S. Remember when they used to automatically put eggs in the fried rice without you having to pay extra? I miss those days.
