I'd heard a lot of hype, so I may have built this place up too much. I'd eat here again, but I wouldn't make a special trip for it. As everyone else has noted, it's cash only, there's a long line (that moves relatively quickly), you get a lot of food for cheap, and you should ask for gravy on your rice (it's just extra sauce). The food was okay but there are definitely other takeout places at a similar price point on the east side. I ordered a combo of the beef pepper steak and sesame chicken. I have enough left over for a second meal. The beef pepper steak was good (I'd get it again), the sesame chicken not so much (it was pretty slimy). I may have missed something, because what I walked away with didn't justify the crowd. I'll give it another shot next time I'm out that way. read more

I randomly stopped in one day for lunch and was initially greeted by a long line. This did not upset me in any way because it gave me an opportunity to ask the patrons what was good on the menu. They all gave me good ideas of what to ask for since I was a newbie there and when I got to the spot to order I almost felt like I had been there before. One of the girls told me to ask for gravy on my rice which I recommend because it gives it some kind of extra Teriyaki flavor. I have to say though my most favorite thing on the menu was their chips. It's more like a deep fried wonton shell that's not curled up and you can use it to dip your food and have a nice crunch with your dish. So I recommend if you are standing in this line which is usual from what I understand from other reviews take the time to ask questions of what people recommend. I truly love Fast Wok! I can't begin to tell you exactly how long I've been eating their food. I first had it when it was at Eastgate Mall which was located on Shadeland Avenue between Washington St and 10Th St in Indianapolis on the Eastside of town. I believe I started eating there approximately 40yrs ago or so. The quality of food hasn't changed. My favorite thing is the Pad Thai. It's spicy, but not too spicy for me and the flavor is just incredible. I enjoy spicy things as long as it has a good flavor and the heat doesn't ruin the great taste of the meal. Fast Wok knows how to balance the flavors. I've had other things there that were also delicious, but I crave the Pad Thai. I usually get a double order. Be aware that they are CASH ONLY!! They will not, do not accept anything but cash. Please expect a long line too. That's because so many people love the food! It moves pretty fast so hang in there. You'll be glad you did. read more

This place is amazing. Easily one of the best Chinese places in Indy. Most of the food is amazing. They easily have the best fried rice. The cream cheese rangoons are incredible too, especially with the homemade honey mustard sauce. My favorite thing to eat here is definitely the Gai Pad King. It's spicy and delicious. I have tried other things from there menu and have had mediocre experiences, but the things they do get right, they REALLY get right. They also give you ridiculous portions for a fairly cheap price. The only critiques of the this place is the long wait time and the hours. You can easily stand in line for 30-45 minutes during peak times or near closing, which is 8pm most days, which is just too early to close in my opinion. Its also is on a not so good side of town, being in the middle of Washington Square. The most annoying thing though is that it's cash only. Went to Fast Wok for dinner tonight. After waiting in line for 1/2 we were told they were out of rice but they would give us extra food to compensate. As I waited in line I watched the lady dole out 3 scoops of food for a single serving and 4 for a combination. When it was my turn, I was offered 2 scoops of food and no rice. When I complained I was told to take it or leave it. I obviously chose to leave it. Now I remember why I don't patronize this restaurant. Seriously, no one has reviewed Fast Wok yet? It is one of the restaurants on my "must eat" list whenever I visit "back home again in Indiana". No, it isn't fancy. Yes, they serve all the meals in environment-destroying Styrofoam. But it's yummy, consistent and comforting. The menu rotates, so you have to make sure and go on the day they have the meal you want. As others have noted, they do have some long lines at times. I drive by and check out line through the window before deciding to go in. You can be standing for a long time as most people are ordering multiple meals to take home. All of the entrees I have tried have been very good. Definitely meh. A 20 minute wait in line for ordinary soy-sauced stir fry dished out cafeteria style. I did it once a few years ago and wasn't impressed, and tried it again yesterday for a second opinion. Normally I wouldn't have waited in line for that long but had to see what the fuss was about. I really love this restaurant. They have the best Chinese food in town. However I would rate it higher if I didn't have to wait in line for 45 mins every time I come. The whole cash only thing is slightly inconvenient for people who have never been before. It's worth the wait but the owner and the other women working the line are taking their sweet time. There's no speed of service at all. I would understand if it weren't busy, but there's 30-50 ppl waiting right now and they're just taking their time. A lot of people walk up to the store and leave because of the line. They need to hire more people to help make people's food and move the line along. Good food, but not as good as some of the more expensive places in town. I would classify it as a mix between a hole-in-the-wall and a greasy spoon... a delicious, unhealthy, cheap-eats, hidden gem. For the newbies to Fast Wok, there are a few simple rules: 1. Take cash because they don't accept credit or debit cards. 2. Expect to wait in line when you go because this place is always packed. Do not make a comment about how long it's taking... you'll only get the stink-eye from regulars. 3. Know what you want when it is your turn to order-- do you want a single (one entree/meat and rice) or a combo (2 entrees/meats and rice)? Do you want white rice or fried rice? Do you want extra "gravy" on the rice? Yes. Yes, you do want extra gravy on the rice. 4. It's cafeteria-style, with a rotating menu. There is no "have it your way." You can't 86 the onions, because it's already made when you walk in. There are probably 9 choices of entrees each day, but the menu rotates from Tues/Thursday/Saturday and Mon/Wed/Friday. Sunday has it's own menu as well. You point at want you want and she slops it (I use the term "slops it" lovingly) into a large styrofoam container. For a little over $6, I order a "Double" which is 2 meat choices, plus a heaping portion of chicken-fried rice. I always double up on the spiciest Thai chicken dish that they have, though (Gai Pad King) rather than selecting two different entrees. Their portions are very generous and I always, always, eat half for dinner-- still feel full-- and take the other half to work with me the next day. If you're on the east side of town and you want to try something filling and tasty, give Fast Wok a chance. I bet you'll keep going back. read more
