I was really happy to find this beautiful Thai restaurant in Wanamaker. I happened to be in the area and consulted Yelp to find a place for lunch. I decided to try Baan Thai Bistro after reading a few reviews, and it turned out to be a great decision. I called in an order for carry out. When I saw the quaint interior I wished that I had time to dine in. The building is beautiful, inside and out. The unique decor was practically beckoning me to sit down and enjoy a relaxing meal. I ordered spring rolls and drunken noodles with tofu. The spring rolls were light and crispy. I would recommend ordering a few. Or more than a few. My drunken noodles were excellent. I ordered mild-to medium spice, and the spice level was perfect. The serving size was generous. Will have leftovers for dinner, yay! Service was very pleasant. Ordering was efficient. My husband and I stopped in here for dinner a couple of weekends ago with our friends who have been trying to get us to drive out to Wanamaker to eat there with them for a while now. They have lots of space to park, but the restaurant itself is very small and there can be long wait times if you get there during peak dinner rush. I think we only ended up waiting about 15 minutes for a table though, so it wasn't too bad and the weather was really nice outside. They also have a cute little tiny library in the parking lot that we perused while we waited. They were very busy and a bit understaffed, so service was slow. It took a while to get drink orders put in after we said we still needed to look over the menu. Three out of four drinks came out after a bit of another wait, but the fourth drink was a cocktail and took 30+ minutes to be brought over to the table after being ordered at the same time as the wine and Thai tea. Our empty water carafe kept getting looked over and we had to ask a few times for another carafe. For appetizers, our friends ordered the dumplings to share and we ordered the crispy tofu to share. While both were good, the dumplings were the favorite. The peanut dipping sauce for the tofu was delicious, but the tofu itself was not crispy at all which was a bummer. For meals, everyone ordered chicken as their protein, but when my friend's curry was brought out the first time it had beef in it, which she doesn't eat. Her husband went up to the front to get it resolved since our server hadn't come back over yet. The correct curry was brought over a few minutes later, so that was great customer getting it fixed timely. Once everyone had their correct dish, we dug in and it was crazy delicious. The spice level was perfect and my curry stayed piping hot my entire meal. I was with my mom running errands so of course she wanted to eat here. I was skeptical from the last time, but it didn't stop me. They have a great lunch special that's reasonably priced, and my mom is more on the picky side, if she likes something she sticks with it. The ambiance here is relaxed, it's a small house turned into a restaurant. Service was good at this visit. My mom ordered her usual pork belly ramen with no spice (she is spice naive) and I tried something new here...drunken noodles with steak at level 3 heat (it goes 1-5 with 5 being the hottest). The lunch special comes with soup and a spring roll. This time I made sure to check my soup, and thankfully it was all clear and tasted good. The soup is too spicy for my mom so she doesn't eat it. The spring roll with dipping sauce was appetizing. Our food came quickly after, and everything came out fresh. My mom didn't have any issues with her ramen. For a lunch special, the drunken noodles is a decent portion. The temperature was hot and the spice level was pretty spicy, but I liked it. We drove 3.5 from Chicago to meet my family who drove 1.5 hours from north of Louisville. We are Thai and I scoured the web looking for a place that would suit our tastes--and it sure did! Worth it! We ordered so much food: pork & chicken satay, shrimp tod mun, spring rolls, kra pao gai, boat noodle soup, cashew chicken, pineapple fried rice, and shrimp pad thai. EVERYTHING WAS EXCELLENT. Very impressed with this quaint Thai restaurant in small town Wanamaker. We arrived around 6:15 on a Friday night, and had to wait fifteen minutes for a table of four. Once seated, our waitress greeted us promptly, and brought our drinks. She was great throughout the night, checking in on us frequently. For appetizer, we had the chicken wings with honey garlic siracha sauce. The wings were phenomenal. The chicken was crispy, and the sauce had a nice a balance between sweet and spicy. I also appreciated the additional side of sauce on the side. For my main course, I had the Kao Soi. It had two meaty drumsticks, plenty of noodles, and an aromatic sauce. The crunchy topping was great, and had additional veggies in it which were fresh. Overall impressed by our visit, and am eager to return to try again. read more

Jammed in alongside coworkers, the owners grandson dialed in some orders on his self-dubbed device. Puffer jacket and dyed tees ensure family owned echelons. He tuned me up to the number of a Pad Krapow with double soup and double spring rolls. We don't play here. Reminiscing on this meal is akin to a dad at his daughter's U12 soccer trophy ceremony. This place has been on my list to try for a bit. I finally got around to it. It was a late lunch for me probably around 2 pm. The entrance was in the back and there is a parking lot in the back as well. I parked out front as there was a delivery truck blocking the driveway when I got there. I walked around to the entrance and when I went in there was a wait to be seated sign. It didn't take long to be seated and they gave me a lunch menu and a larger menu but I did not see a cocktail menu so I asked for one. She brought it to me and said the cocktails were just ok, most people order beer or wine. I really wanted a cocktail so I ordered the Almond Sour. Also I flipped the cocktail menu over to the other side and she said, "Oh we have none of these items." My waitress came back to the table and said they were out of Amaretto so I did not try for a second cocktail, I just ordered the Thai Iced Tea. The Thai Iced Tea was interesting, a bit thick and sweet. I am a no sugar in my tea girl so may not have been my best choice. I ordered my meal, I went with the Mixed Vegetable Stir-Fry. She asked what protein I wanted and I chose none. She asked if the Jasmine rice was fine and I said yes. She asked heat level 1-5 and knowing that Thai food can get pretty spicy from another Thai restaurant I go to I ordered heat level 2. I waited for my food and looked around, everything was clean and the place was small. They do have a patio out front that would be nice in nicer weather. She came back with my order and although pretty I found an overall lack of flavor and absolutely no heat and I sure would not have expected that. The Jasmine rice was also a bit congealed together, I do not care for rice all that much anyway so it did not really matter to me that I left it mostly on the plate. I was pretty disappointed but I did like the soup which was a Spicy Thom Yum and I also liked the crunchy spring roll with the dip on the side. I will likely come back to try them again, maybe I ordered the wrong thing, maybe it was a bad day for the chef. I do know I will bump up my heat level here. read more

This place is so cute and the service is always super friendly. We enjoyed a date night dinner here last night. The crispy pork ramen was full of fresh veggies and the crispy pork was killer! Hubs got the pineapple fried rice and liked it, wished it had a few more pieces of pineapple but the presentation is so cute. We also started with the firecracker shrimp and that was fine. Each ingredient popped at a different time, and there was no "star of the show" in a very good way. Further more, the spring rolls were crisp on the outside and not mushy on the inside like I have experienced at other nicer Thai restaurants in Indianapolis. The red curry and cocktails were excellent, as well. Our server was adorable and very helpful in providing us recommendation. This is a very small Thai place, but it's very clean and well kept. There isn't much room inside, but the food makes it worth stopping by. The Thai fried chicken rice bowl is good and flavorful, and the fried rice is also solid. I really liked the crab Rangoon dip--it was tasty and a nice twist. The tom yum soup is not bad and comforting. The crispy rice salad was okay, just not what I expected as a salad since it's mostly crispy rice and not many greens. I just HAD to visit this spot since they made the list of Top Places to Eat in Indy according to Yelp. Aside from that, this is a restaurant I've been meaning to visit for ages but it's a bit of a drive for me. It was so worth it! I lived in Thailand for a year and a half and just got back two weeks ago from a visit to Thailand. I was definitely still craving Thai food once I got back and this was the absolute perfect restaurant to go to. Aside from the food being flavorful and delicious, the menu had items that are hard to find at Thai restaurants in the states but common in Thailand. I loved learning that it's a family owned business and many of the recipes are family recipes. Their lunch menu had items priced around $11 and they even included soup and a spring roll. In this day and age, this was such a good deal! The last thing to note, the service was fantastic. Our waitress was kind and down to earth. She made sure we had everything we needed and gave great recommendations. It's so cute inside too with a lot of natural light and a patio out front as well! This is a hard one. The staff was so nice and friendly. Our experience started off strong with the chicken wings and crab dip. My only note is that there's not enough dip, like seriously! We received our entrees and were let way down! Our food had burnt particles and lacked flavor. I ordered the pineapple fried rice which is served in a pineapple. I love Thai food and we have a few choices on the east side but I'm so glad I saw the Coffman review on this place I ordered to go and arrived and parked on the street but noticed there's parking behind the building. When I walked in, it looks small inside, but there was lots of people eating outside as it was a beautiful day. I love Tom Yum soup and ordered a large portion of it with chicken And went with the drunken noodles with beef. Both were fantastic. I usually don't like egg rolls, but even their little eggroll that came with the meal was fantastic. I can leave aside hyperbole to honestly say that this is the best Thai food that I have eaten this side of Thailand. Our daughter and son-in-law had been here two or three times in the past and thought we'd like this place. They definitely were not wrong. The experience here is definitely worth a repeat performance. Found in the small-town, slightly out-of-the-way suburb of Wanamaker, this establishment is worth the trek from wherever you are in the Indy area (or beyond). Located in a clearly re-purposed building that apparently served previously as a home and hair salon, their cozy dining area created an intimate atmosphere that added to our experience. The diminutive size does limit seating during peak times, however. We had to wait about 45 minutes to be seated on our Saturday evening visit. Since they don't appear to accept same-night reservations (and it seems like they may not accept reservations at all based on the website), a wait might be inevitable on a busy night unless you fancy an early dinner. Once seated, our waitress Suzanne attended to us right away and did a fabulous job to make our experience the best it could be. Her recommendations were spot on and her friendly and forthright manner were refreshing. The menu included several tempting Thai favorites making our decisions difficult. For starters, we chose the Spring Rolls and the Crab Rangoon for the four of us. The Crab Rangoon was particularly noteworthy as the taste was a unique treat unlike any other Rangoon I've had. I'd definitely recommend it, even for those lukewarm on the idea of a dish like this. For entrees, my wife had the Pad Seuw with Beef, which was very good. My daughter had the Drunken Noodles with Beef, which was also flavorful. My son-in-law tried the Pork Belly Ramen, which was a very nice version of this Asian favorite. However, I have to say that I made the best choice. I am a huge curry fan and feel obliged at a Thai place to stay with that instinct. I thought about the Red Curry, but Suzanne indicated that was prepared with a 4 out of 5 on the spice scale (most things you can specify the spice levels from 1 to 5, but not the curries). She suggested the Yellow Curry if I wanted to dial it down to a 3-out-of-5. While I love a great deal of spice, having been to Thailand a few times, I know things can get overwhelming very quickly. Hence, out of an abundance of caution, I went with the Yellow Curry with Chicken as my protein. The curry was outstanding with more coconut than most giving it a sweet and spicy taste. It was absolutely wonderful accompanied by a Jasmine rice complement. While I loved this dish, I now know that I can "graduate" to the Red Curry next time as the level of spice was definitely not too much. For dessert, the four of us split two items, Fried Bananas with Coconut Ice Cream and Mango with Sticky Rice. Both were excellent. I've always been a big fan of Mango and Sticky Rice and this version was terrific. The prices were very reasonable for this type of restaurant. With two appetizers, four entrees, two desserts, two drinks, tax and tip, the total was just over $120. At a little more than $30 per person, this was a great deal. Given the quality of the fare and the fact that each of us had leftovers for another small meal, this was a fabulous value. This place skyrocketed to the top of our list for the Indy area. Very small inside, but quaint with good service. The best thing on the menu is their rangoon dip...chef's kiss! It may be a little difficult to locate, as it blends in with the other houses along the street. The only parking is by taking a narrow drive-way looking path on the side of the house to the gravel lot in the back, then you enter through the back of the house. There is a narrow hallway when you enter, so if there's any waiting necessary, it my be tight. I'd recommend going during lunch hour, dinner gets pretty busy. read more

People in front of me were picking up but it wasn't ready yet so not sure if they didn't wait the time they were told or what. The curry was good and very spicy. It says no spice on the receipt but don't let that fool you. It already comes spicy and I didn't want it to be more so didn't specify. What an adorable find! This thai restaurant is in Wanamaker in Franklin Township and in a small, but cozy house. There is outdoor patio seating and parking behind the restaurant in a gravel lot. Fun decor and friendly staff, you'll find a variety of thai dishes on the menu. I ordered a Thai ice tea, which was refreshing and a nice portion size for the price. They also had boba drinks on the menu. My main dish was peanut sauce noodles. Rice noodles, bean sprouts and ground chicken for my protein. I asked for medium spice and did not find it spicy at all, so I added chili oil at home to give it more of a kick. Very enjoyable and would love to go back to try other dishes on the menu! read more

I am not a fan of regular crab Rangoon, but the dip is my favorite!! The pork satay was perfect temperature and I loved dipping it in the peanut butter sauce. Yum! I recommend ordering the green curry, I was debating between the curry or the pad Seuw. I tried something different out of my comfort zone with the Pad Seuw, it was good, but I tried my friends curry and I would definitely get that next time instead!! I have always been a fan of massaman curry, Our waitress was very attentive, friendly, and very helpful answering our questions about the menu. Negative / only 1 bathroom. Restaurant is tiny and hard to move around without bumping into people. Tight squeeze for larger groups. Baan Thai Bistro is a charming little restaurant in Wanamaker. We were drawn in by the well deserved great Yelp reviews. They are located in a converted upscale bungalow. Inside, the decor is colorful and clean. Reservations are encouraged as they only have ten tables that fill up quickly. Our server, Lynn, was super friendly and attentive. She made recommendations of her favorite dishes. The menu offers some unique and interesting twists on Thai food. Food comes out quickly. Yaai's Spring Rolls are crispy good with fresh veggies inside served with a plum sauce. Pad Thai Woon Sen was our favorite dish and recommended by Lynn. The dish contains glass noodles which have a wonderful texture. The sauce is light yet tasty. The beef was tender and juicy. The Drunken Noodles with chicken is filled with fresh broccolini, Thai basil, carrots, and other veggies. The plate is delicious and colorful. The medium level of heat was perfect. Portions are huge, we took leftovers home. This restaurant has become one of my new favorites and makes my Top 10 in Indiana. There is parking out back. I first visited this restaurant for take-out and the wait was a bit long (about 45 minutes on a Thursday around 6PM), but boy, was it worth it! The Pad Thai with Chicken was flavorful and had a more savory flavor than other Pad Thais I've had in the past. And the Spicy Drunken Noodles packed just the right punch as I got it Medium spicy and had the best veg to noodle to meat ratio. I was very excited to try this place because of its excellent word of mouth, but unfortunately it turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences i've ever had. Just for context, this is the ONLY restaurant i've ever walked out of before I got my food because of the awful service. My girlfriend and I arrived in the middle of the day when it wasn't busy at all (Only 2 other parties seated both had their food and were almost finished). We were seated by a tall young man with curly hair and we ordered our drinks and appetizer. About 15 minutes go by and we still hadn't received our drinks so we had to flag down our waiter to ask again and place our food order. After this point we remained seated for OVER AN HOUR (Reminder: it's not busy at all). During this time our waiter didn't look our direction or acknowledge us once when we both needed refills the entire time. Finally, when a party who was seated 30 minutes after us got their food right away it was clear to us that our waiter had forgotten to place our order so we decided to get up and leave. Went here for the first time while visiting friends in Indy. There was a small wait of about 6-7 minutes even though they told us it could be 20 minutes. The place is small but beautiful! Loved all the décor. We ordered a couple green curries, drunken noodles, and pad Thai. The food came out after about 10-15 minutes. The portions were a good size. It all tasted great and the veggies in the dishes were fresh! The only warning I have is about the green curry: IT IS SPICY! It is labeled as spicy and the server said it was their "medium" level but for me it was a little much and I can usually handle my spice well. The drunken noodles we got were also ordered as a "medium" spice level but were less spicy than the green curry. I asked for some additional coconut milk which helped cut the spice level. I also ordered a Thai iced tea which was pretty good as well and a big quantity. Took one star away for a minor thing - one of the water cups was not clean. read more
