My initial five star review has since been altered to a one star review: The live music that was once their appeal is now their demise. The head of the "blues band" jam on Saturday's, Jimmy, was exceptionally rude to a musician I referred to this establishment. The way they treat beginner-amateur musicians is not only rude, it's unacceptable. Their ''open mic' advertisement is a sham. Jimmy and his band used scare tactics to make their 'open mic' anything but open or comfortable. Before musicians even hit the stage, they intimidate and frighten first-time participants; they only want their own band and friends to be the ones to play. He actually had he audacity to stop them in the middle of a song and told them to 'go home and learn the blues.' It was humiliating for the musicians who were kicked off, and every single patron in the bar felt uncomfortable by the lack of professionalism. If it's not what they're looking for musically, that's fine. You can ask them politely to end their set. But certainly not in the middle of a song, and certainly not after you were rude to them before they even got up to play. By the way, their performance was NOT BAD. No one in the bar had a problem with their style of playing. Go somewher else in town if you're looking for a comfortable experience. read more

The coolest thing about the bar is its name, however I'm pretty sure Gary Larson doesn't own the joint. On a Friday or Saturday night this place is more than just packed, it's IMPOSSIBLE to move... for some people I guess that equates to a good time... for me, that equates to wanting to kill the next person who steps on my foot... don't get me wrong, the drinks are "fairly" priced (for Hoboken) but there are a hundred better places. The only "saving grace" of the entire restaurant is the Benny Tudinos is right down the street if you want a slice of pizza! read more

Friendly staff, $3 Labatts all day every day, outdoor seating in front and back (with fireplace), good tunes on the juke box, and darts. Jazz on Saturday afternoons. Good weekend crowds of good people. Basically, Washington's version of Northern Soul. read more

The place is 5/5 when Jimmy mac and his jack off band isn't playing. Guy is a punk that chases local musicians off the stage to hear his dumb ass band play songs no one wants to hear. Open mic night is the complete opposite. My recommendation is come any day but Saturday. Drinks are cheap, staff is great, and place has a great vibe. Can't speak for the food here - but definitely one of my favorite neighborhood bars. Great wood-planked outdoor space in the back, rarely crowded. One of my favorite spots to have a beer in Hoboken. read more

The Farside is usually pretty relaxed, cheap drinks, and rarely loud obnoxious guidos. Boom, roasted

Dark interior, the food was ok but a little over priced. The service was pretty bad. It took over 15 mins to even be addressed and over 45 mins to get 2 burgers with fries. They also forgot to being out the appetizer of spinach dip. My roommate and I will not be going back. read more

So I've been here a hand full of times. If you're wanting beer, and maybe a shot, you're good. A real mixed drink, don't bother. I like manhattans, they've never had cherries on hand. Way beyond what you'd consider pub fare- new management is definitely ON in the kitchen; even with a limited menu, everything is made with love and great ingredients. Met friends here last night - it was actually my second time drinking/dining at the Farside. The kitchen has recently been taken over - although they run a limited menu, there always seems to be specials with a variety of choices. They have definitely stepped up the Pub Grub - it's more than just frozen fried fare. I also highly recommend the Sangria....not too sweet and delightfully refreshing. Loved the farside when I lived in Hoboken. It's a great place to sit outside on a summer night. THe food is good as is the service. It was the first place we ate when we visited to look for a place, and then we had dinner there and joked it was the only place we'd ever wind up going. I've been to the farside a few times, and have always been happy with the service. Unfortunately after tonight I will not return. This is the first time I attended the "open mic" blues jam.Was excited to listen to local musicians in a good atmosphere. Unfortunately it was anything but. Two new musicians were kicked off the stage in the middle of a song. I felt so uncomfortable and so upset for those two young men. The way they were treated was disgraceful. I enjoyed going to Farside. Even though the drinks were expensive, my friends and I always came here because it was close by, and we were never bothered. That is until the owner randomly decided to charge my friends, and I a cover fee when we got to their door. It was 4 in the afternoon! The craziest part of all is that all the people in front of us got in with no cover charge. The owner claimed that there had to be a cut off point, and refused to accommodate us. I considered this EXTREMELY disrespectful, since my friends and I always gave good business in the past. Also, it is unprofessional not to announce the cover charge prior to getting to the door, and a waste of my time. I was told that I don't have to come back if I don't like the way they run things. I will never come back to this place, and spend another cent again. read more

-READ THIS REVIEW - CHECK YOUR BILL AND BE PREPARED TO BE GROSSED OUT!! This place looked like a nice spot to go for a drink after dinner at Bin 14 with my girlfriend and her sister. We walked in and were able to find three seats at the end of the bar - we noticed there was a patio out back which we thought was cool for when the weather gets warmer. We were grossed out when our bartender literally smashed her fingers all over the orange slice for one of the blue moons we ordered and then just threw them in the drink. Not very sanitary! We ordered three beers and my girlfriend's sister ordered a bottle of Coors after. We asked for the check and our not so sanitary "bartender" came over and explained how she had forgotten to open a tab and wanted us to be honest about what we ordered... it felt like she was accusing us of lying about what we had before we even told her - after we told her she did some mental math and said $30.00 - now I know I was a bit tipsy, but I remembered that the taps were roughly $5.00 each and the bottle more like $4 and that just didn't add up to $30... so I kindly asked if we could see a bill and the "bartender" so snaps at me so rudely "I AM THE OWNER, I THINK I KNOW WHAT THE PRICES ARE" I paused and said "great, what are the prices" - again doing some mental math she rumbled off a list that included two drinks we never ordered or had... never apologizing for being rude she corrected the total to $20.00 and we paid - it's so sad when the OWNER of an establishment creates a bad experience for new customers. We will never go back, and we urge all of you who read this to consider drinking some place you won't catch some contagious illness as the OWNER likes to cough in the same hand she uses to put ice in your cup. read more

i went there for the first time with roomies last night and we were very pleasantly surprised but kind of bummed that we didn't discover this spot sooner! we ordered drinks (reasonably priced) and eats (delicious, and the staff let us order even though the kitchen was on the verge of closing) and hung out back with a few other small parties. the back patio was super clutch and would have been perfect except for the high humidity and lack of breeze. no complaints about the music, either... but i could imagine this bar getting crowded on any random day. moral of the story is that we will absolutely be back because it's a great atmosphere to hang back, have some drinks, and chill on the wicker patio furniture while listening to music or watching a game. read more

I've been here many, many times--have been going since 2003--but sadly our most recent visit will be the last. I can't go to a bar that cheats its customers. A few weeks ago I was with a group of about 6-8 people and most of us started tabs. At the end of the night I found that the bartender (who claimed to be the wife of the proprietor) had added several drinks onto my tab. She then argued that it was standard practice to assume one credit card paid for the whole party unless you specifically told them "only put my drinks on." Uh, I've been drinking in Hoboken and New York City for 13 years now and that has never been necessary or expected --most bartenders are smart enough to not to assume you can charge someone else's drinks onto a credit card! In addition none of us had even drunk these drinks! She would not stop arguing but we refused to pay for drinks we hadn't ordered. She grudgingly agreed to take off the disputed drinks and then, when two of us were signing the bill and talking about it, threatened to call the cops--for talking?! Love to see the cops when they find out you've called them out to arrest two people for...standing at the bar and talking about the fact that you tried to cheat us. The kicker is that going over my credit card bill, I see that she ended up cheating us after all--the amount on my bill is the original, inflated amount. *Sigh* So now I have to call up my credit card company and have them take it off. Very sad it came to this, as I've enjoyed my previous visits to Farside. read more

This is one of my favorite bars in Hoboken for a low-key night. The staff is super friendly and Izzy and Kathy are my favorites. They are awesome bartenders. The food is great. They have touch tunes so I can be DJ all day every day. They have the outdoor deck area which is great during the summer. They have a dart board so I can school people at darts. They have photo hunt. A pretty basic Hoboken bar. Don't even think they have a kitchen. It is nice that most of the people there are locals!

This is an amazing place to mingle, party, or just chill. The bar quickly escalates from a busy place to a hell of a party without impacting the excellent service provided by the tenders or the staff. There is a beautiful outside deck with a fireplace that creates a second level of ambiance--the atmosphere is usually much more chill, even while the drinks are flowing. This place has something for everyone, assuming you're not looking for beats that drown out conversation and lines to the bar or wading three deep to get a drink... Settle in a bit at The Farside and you'll have a hell of a time. read more
