I was minding my own business, sipping my Ketel soda, when it happened. Sitting under the stars in the outdoor area, plus the overpowering smell of someone wearing my FAVORITE cologne (AKA panty dropper) plus a "drink" that was entirely vodka....equals DRUNK TEXTING. One word...LAME! This place has been totally dead everytime I have gone. And one time the bartender told us that my friend was on "red alert" because the bouncer saw her stumble as we walked in. It was about 9pm on a Saturday night and we just had dinner across the street. She was by no means wasted. I would like to see the bouncer try to run across the street in heals. Came here in the middle of a snowstorm for a low-key night with a couple of friends. Had no idea what to expect, but this bar provided exactly what I was looking for. Dark, divey bar with cheap drinks and a wide variety of people, ranging from young professionals to old creepy dudes. There was a blues band when we first came by, but they wrapped up around 9:00. After that, we pretty much owned the jukebox, even though the music selection was pretty poor. Can't say anything for the food, but based on some of the other reviews, I might have to come hungry next time. read more

This bar, for me, is soo college. And that is not a bad thing! This was my go-to spot when I went to school at Stevens (GO DUCKS). It is your typical bar with your normal selection of drafts. I feel what defines this establishment is the great people and awesome bartenders and servers. The bar is pretty spacious in the main room, with a patio in the front for nicer days as well as a back patio to lounge and spread out some more. There is a dart board by the front, and the entrance has black lights for those who think that's cool. I've played many cricket and baseball games on that dart board (granted I was never any good). Whenever my core group of college friends want to meet up in Hoboken, we'd always default to Farside. This is where I've wandered off to when stressed out for Finals, celebrating Senior Week, and catching up with the bromigos over some Black & Blues. I've recently tried their food and have no complaints. The chicken fingers and quesedillas were nothing out of the norm, but oddly addicting. Big shout out to Izzy the server for always making sure we were helped in a timely manner. Needless to say, I'll be back to Farside more often than not. I've never had a bad experience here. Random note: last time I was here, an elderly band was performing with this old Korean lady on the drums. She was pretty solid. read more

Good bar in Hoboken, this is were a lot of college students from Stevens Institute of Technology hang out, so if you don't want a college scene, this bar probably is not for you. I like that they have a dart board, and they have a really nice outside deck area that has a fireplace so you can chill there all year round. Drinks are good, nothing fancy. read more

The backyard patio is cute and a relaxing place to chill with friends on a sunny day. They have a decent selection of beer, but nothing special (coors, blue moon, yuengling, etc.). And, the menu is limited. My friends and I ordered the nachos and they were alright.The toppings were not well proportioned and were placed far from each other, but it's hard to completely ruin nachos. I came here with my husband recently and it's a cozy and friendly place with a great Blues Jam Session on Saturday afternoon . Great atmosphere with outdoor seating and patio besides the regular indoor seating. The food is good if you want a sandwich or snack and they have nice tasty shrimp Po boy sandwiches and burgers and fries. If you come on a Saturday afternoon for the Blues Jam Session there are some very talented musicians there. Definitely not a bunch of rejects like that other reviewer suggested. Some of the singers and musicians that play here are very professional. Bandleader Jimmy Mack is very nice and both he and the guys in the band were happy to chat with me about the blues music and they even helped me pick out some songs so I could participate in one of the jam sessions on the future. Very cool and the bartender Is very nice too. He makes good drinks and will keep a tab for you if needed. I had a great time at the Farside and I recommend you come and check it out! read more

By Hoboken standards this place is dive. I stopped by for a drink while I was waiting to pick up keys to my new place and was pleasantly surprised that the happy hour specials were good a cheap. 7 bucks for a kettle and soda if I remember which was nice considering a lot of bars don't discount the top shelf. I looked over the menu because I'm that guy and it was your typical bar food. Nothing exciting or worth noting but i'm sure their fryer works and would fill an alcohol filled belly should the urge arise. They had the doors open but it was still hot as hell inside. When another patron asked for them to turn the AC on the guy said okay but then complained he had to close to the doors. I didn't get it either. Not a bad spot to grab a drink before heading elsewhere. The crowd seemed to be older and less Jersey then further down the block. Cheers! read more

This is my go-to spot after playing recreational soccer. Its got that "cheers" feeling, where you walk in and there are definitely people here that have been coming here routinely for years. It's a place in hoboken that isn't bro-y or pretentious and is just casual, chill, let's grab a few beers and chat. It's unassuming like that. Bartenders are friendly and helpful. It's a place that is no frills -- it doesn't need to because the quality of the time you have here is another about the place, ambiance, or atmosphere -- it's back to basics where you can focus and have a good time with who you're with. Can be hit or miss. I like the atmosphere and the crowd that goes there. But some nights the place is just empty. Usually they play fun 80's/90's rock, which I love, but one time we were there and they had a DJ playing club music which just didn't seem to go with the scene. Some of the best features of Farside are their outdoor seating areas. There is a courtyard in the back with tables, and even an outdoor fireplace for those cold nights. And there are also tables in front during the summer, which is great for hanging out and having a beer while people watching. Get there early to snag the wicker couch! And they have good bar food too (burgers and such...) . I've had some great times at Farside but have been disappointed a few times also. It's centrally located so a lot of the time we stop there for a drink or two on our way to other bars, and end up staying longer if it's a fun crowd. read more

I like The Farside. It's one of the more chill spots in Hoboken where you can grab a drink with friends, play darts, pick a song on the jukebox, or hang out in one of their outside spaces if the weather permits. Prices are always reasonable and the atmosphere is laid back. I came here on New Year's Eve last year as well - there was no cover charge and there was a good-sized crowd- it wasn't overly crowded but it was definitely not empty. the whole place smells like a wet bathroom... WHY?! can't you have it even decently clean? bartenders aren't the best. Guy bartender only tends to females and the woman bartender, can't get her attention. And then the guy asked us to bring our empties in from outside because they ran out of cups/glasses. oh really? you run a bar with not enough cups? that's... nice.... All of the three stars here tell the story pretty well - it's a comfortable bar with a decent drink selection, but nothing too out of the ordinary. It's not really a destination bar for me, meaning that I've never actually had plans to meet anyone there. It's always more of a place we stop if we happen to be passing by, if it doesn't look too crowded.     The crowd is usually pretty chill, and I've never had a bad experience with any of the staff. Everything else is just...okay. Nothing spectacular, but if you want to grab a beer with a decent price, it's a good spot to find yourself in. read more

Eh...it's alright here. Come for a quick drink if you happen to be in the neighborhood, but there are many other options in town that have better food and prices (not that this place is expensive, I just feel like I get more of my money's worth in other spots). Stooped in while waiting to be called for a reservation at Bareburger a few doors Dow. I ordered wine and played darts with my friends. The place has maybe 5 other people at the bar on. Friday night which isn't a good sign, especially on Hoboken. I had fun only because my friends were with me and they had darts. I wouldn't go in to hang out alone or even really suggest going back with a group of people. There wasn't anything memorable about the place. Even the bartender didn't seem too excited to be there. it's been over 7 years since I reviewed Farside, and I feel an update is due. it's still a decent place to drink, and the beer selection has improved over the years. they also removed some things in the back of the indoor area, near the bathrooms, to give a little more space. however, what I really enjoy about Farside is that on Saturday afternoons/evenings, they've got a live blues jam, and you get to see some really talented musicians rocking out for no cover charge. a nice break from the usual bar music. I've yet to run into my dad's cousin, who's in the Blues Hall of Fame, playing here, but I think it's more a matter of "when" than "if" at this point. read more

Absolutely disgusted by the owner of this bar! I thought I would come here for a good crowd and drinks .... Beware. The female owner came in drunk at around 11- touched my face and arm and repetitively asked me to come behind the bar and "show her what tab was mine" when I tried to order a second round. She was giving "free" drinks to everyone. When I went to get my 2 drink tab from another employee - she had told him I had 7 shots. When I told him she gave me a round he hands the check to her. She comes over and says "well whose going to pay for this tab it says you had 7". I'm like your drunk- you gave me a round (4x) and you just told the guy to add 7 to my tab. She asked me again to come behind the bar and talk to her. I said that was inappropriate. And she said she can tell me to do whatever she wants she's the owner, she can say whatever. I tried to grab my card and she snatched it and would not let me leave (employees were useless old men who I feel bad that they work for that unprofessional woman). I said I would call the cops and she was okay with that. So I filed a complaint. Absolutely disgusting inappropriate behavior. Drunk nasty woman behind the bar marketing herself as the owner. She must of taken some sort of drug too bc she didn't even remember what I was saying minutes before. read more

BEWARE: OVERCHARGED AT THIS BAR. A friend of mine had planned a bar crawl for his birthday party. We were all dressed like fools, so the bartender probably expected the worst from us and clearly took it upon herself to try to take advantage. I ordered a round of drinks for my group of friends - a bunch of Jagerbombs, a beer and a shot. When I asked how much each of the Jagerbombs were, the bartender said they were $8 each, so my 7 would total $56. I handed her my credit card and the total was $82. How could a beer and a well shot possibly total $26?? I gave the bartender a look and she shrugged at me and walked away. My friend said that the tip was probably factored in since I had ordered 9 drinks, so I left no tip, signed the receipt, had my bomb and we all left. I checked my credit card statement today and the bartender must have given herself an additional $10 tip since the total amount charged was $92. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. I was not drunk (though my ridiculous golf attire probably led her to believe that I was) and this bartender proceeded to take advantage. My friends and I will NEVER return to this bar!!! read more

Behold! An oasis on Washington Street! I've lived in Hoboken for almost four years - I'm not sure why either - and this place has stayed atop the pub rotation throughout. No lines, no cover, no attitude, no BS, no problems. It is quite simply a place to get drunk and enjoy each other's company. The décor is simple: dim lights, spacious bar, a handful of hightops, darts, photohunt, a few TVs, canvas of Bob Marley in the corner, and a juke. No frills, fine by me. Lots of locals, and by locals I mean Hoboken lifers that predate the yup invasion. It has a great patio for people watching on a sunny day but it's the back patio that really ties the bar together. Picnic-style tables and a fireplace. Quiet and secluded. Overall, décor wise, it's a fine place to enjoy your company. There's no shouting over the music, no shucking-and-jiving around and through crowds. There's always an easy access point to the bar. Blessedly, you won't hear the Z100 hits here. It's only rock 'n roll and I like it. I have actually never eaten here so I can't speak for the food. Bar wise, nothing too fancy or special on tap or in bottle. Cheap happy hour. If you come here enough then your loyalty will eventually be rewarded. The barstaff is friendly but can get a bit distracted, and sometimes there is just one person back there. I hate saying this but want Farside to stay open and reap some profits, so I'll come out with it. This is a perfect place to host a gathering because you will be able to take the place over. The drinks are strong and cheap, people can spread out, and you can do whatever the hell you want. Good luck finding that on Washington. read more

We stopped at this dive bar on Washington during a walk around town on a beautiful day. We were able to sit outside with out dog, which was nice. We spilt nachos and wings and had a couple of drinks. The nachos weren't as heavy as your typical bar fare which was nice. When we got the bill, we where happily surprised at how cheap everything was. I would definitely come back here again -- maybe for some college football! read more

Farside is a good place to just go chill after a long day of work or school. It's not the place to go if you're looking for dancing or an active atmosphere. But they have darts and usually $3 drafts and I always have a good time here with friends. And they also have this nice little seating area in the back which is perfect for summer but also has a little fireplace for when it gets colder. read more

By default, since most Hoboken bars are God awful, Farside is a staple. This place is unpretentious and has an electronic jukebox where you can play any song your heart desires. It also has an outdoor area? Sold. That's literally all I needed. No guido's? Fairly priced drinks? My standards aren't too high with bars in Hoboken, so this one gets 4 stars for being standard issue. read more

My favorite bar in Hoboken. They make the most amazing Sangria and makes me forget my bad days. The food is a higher end version of most of the bar food you get around here. They have an awesome back patio, Wii, darts and plenty of TV'S for the games. Let me not forget how awesome the staff is because they are so attentive and cool. read more
