Black Bear is an ideal spot to grab a bite, drink some beers, and watch sporting events with a group. It's your typical sports bar ambiance. Dark and dim lighting with reclaimed barn wood, antique furniture, and vintage signs. They have two floors with a bar and dining area on each one. The walls are lined with large HD tv screens with any and every sports channel you can think of. They provide a fun lineup of entertainment (weekly bingo & themed trivia, a live DJ on Friday & Saturday, weekend brunch). It gets extremely crowded, packed, and loud on game weekends. Menu has your average bar grub - burgers, sandwiches, wraps, salads, wings, nachos, tacos, quesadillas... all at decent prices. They have a lot of options for beer and cocktails. I don't think they're outrageously expensive, but they're a little high for what you're getting. On the plus side, they have daily specials with good deals/discounts. AYCE wings for $15 on Tuesday, Tequila Thursday, Sangria Sunday, etc. I needed a quick bite so I ordered the Crispy Chicken Sandwich with fries ($16) - included crispy chicken cutlet and sweet chili sauce on a brioche roll. The roll was fluffy and buttery with a golden crust. The chicken was indeed crispy. I was pleasantly surprised by how big the cutlet was... it looked like they cut up multiple cutlets and stacked them on top of each other. I could've done without the sweet chili sauce - a little overpowering. The french fries were nice and crispy, just how I like them. Overall, not a bad bar in Hoboken to check out. I will give it to them the servers, staff, and anyone who worked there did a fantastic job serving and working!. This place was pretty busy with college kids. The wings were absolutely amazing! Multiple flavors crispy, but also meaty wings. The blue cheese was very runny and watery and I did not like that. I got a chicken Caesar wrap which tasted just what it sounded like. If you get wings, I suggest the Sriracha fire, firecracker, barbecue or hot wings. I did come here on a Sunday football weekend so I do understand it was busy. Beautiful place, but unfortunately the experience ended very badly. I visited with my wife and 2 co-workers, and while the night started fine, the service was average at best. My wife even had to get up twice to ask for utensils and napkins for her meal. Our bill came to about $170, and I left a $20 tip based on the service we received. As we were leaving, the waitress stopped us to question why we didn't leave a 20% tip "like everyone else" That was honestly shocking and completely unprofessional. I've never had a server confront me over a tip before. Even with mediocre service, I still left a tip out of respect, but being judged afterward ruined the entire experience. Management should address this because no customer should feel uncomfortable after paying their bill. read more

Music is at a good level. Service was prompt and both the bartender and waiter were friendly. I ordered a steak wrap with onions, and swapped out the cheddar for Swiss and requested non Chipotle bbq sauce. The sauce was fairly bland. The rest of the wrap was very good. Fries were fairly standard with no seasoning. I left a little hungry. A friend got the double wings and was disappointed that it was 12 wings for $30, plus tax and tip. He left hungry. The bar had a good selection of drinks and taps. Bathrooms were fairly clean, but no paper towels. Expect to pay around 20-30 for just food (2024). I would not return to this establishment. We were there for the unlimited wings deal, which has a time limit, and each time we needed to place a new order, it took up to 20 minutes for him to come back. We also asked for water and never received it, eventually we had another waiter who noticed we had been waiting ask us if we wanted water. Made a reservation for a large party months in advance. I also called to confirm my reservation was all set 2 days before which the manager confirmed. When I got to the restaurant the day of the hostess had no idea what I was talking about. I was supposed to have the upstairs bar reserved for my party which they told me to head up there and there were people sitting at our tables. Unfortunately I won't be making a reservation here again, it is not the place to do a private party and the manager is not very reliable since he told none of the staff about my event. I visited Black Bear Bar and Grill on a Friday night with my girl friends. We had to wait for 20 minutes on a line to enter because they were at capacity. I did not mind because my friends really wanted to go there and the bouncer was completely nice about it and updated us on the wait time. We entered and the music was EXTREMELY loud that you could not hear the person next to you. Other than that the music was really good. The DJ they had really made me want to dance. I ordered a Tito's and pomegranate and it was served in a tall glass and tasted good. For the rest of the night me and my friends had vodka shots. For my food I got the Buffalo Chicken Wrap and it was SO GOOD. Definitely recommend. The downside of this place was that our waiter didn't really come to our table much and seemed to talk to other workers more than helping us. Waitress was okay but like most wait staff encountered in Hoboken, have this sort of weird snooty attitude if you ask for anything such as splitting the check. Hands down best bar food in Hoboken! Whether you're going in to watch the games at the bar with BIG TVs or coming in just for a bite, the food never disappoints. I've ordered take our before too and everything has come just as good as dining in. Their Buffalo bites are my absolute favorite and honestly all their sauces are outrageously delicious. My ultimate favorite part of Black Bear is their homemade ranch. I cannot stress enough how good it is! The service and staff is awesome, no compliants ever. While I had been to the nice sports bar several times over the past decade, I had only eaten there once, but remembered being impressed. This visit was no different. The wrap, which I requested in the whole wheat variety, was stuffed with moist ground turkey, sautéed onions, romaine lettuce, and tomatoes. I had left off the hot pepper cheese and only realized on my final bite that they had forgotten to include the guacamole. Despite that disappointment, I was in awe of how flavorful the poultry was and just how much punch the onions added. The sandwich came with a handful of delicious French Fries, which were thin, crisp, and perfectly salted. My boyfriend also enjoyed his Hamburger and Fries, though his meat had been slightly overcooked. Black Bear has been great for everything from drinks to dinner to a giant platter of wings for Super Bowl Sunday. The bar can get REAL rowdy on game days but still not to the level of so many bars just a few doors down. It never really crosses over to chaos, which is why it is one of my favorite places. I ordered a half tray of wings (50 pc for $50) here the morning of Super Bowl Sunday and they were ready on time, even when I changed that time kind of last minute. And they were gooooood.
