Usually a fun place except when NFL football fans take it over. If you come to see baseball games on Sundays (and maybe Saturdays) when football season starts it will be all THEM crowding the place and then it sucks. Really did not want to review this place as it feels like a hidden gem. Wandered into Standings and what looked like a hole in the wall was anything but that. Walls, ceiling, shelves covered in sports memorabilia with tons of tvs and multiple games on. I could sit here for hours looking at all the stuff on the walls. On arrival, we knew we found a new favorite. It's a beer bar and the selection was FIRE. I mean who has a banana peanut butter stout on tap? Unreal! The owner was on top of everything and made sure all guests were taken care of while simultaneously talking shop on all things sports. What a gem of a bar in NYC. Came in here on Saturday for round 2 of the MLB playoffs. Upon arrival, they had a bouncer working the door who was a little bizarre but once inside the place all was well. Standings is very small in size but mighty in character. The whole space is filled wall to wall and ceiling to ceiling with memorabilia of all sorts. The bar was packed out since the Yankees were going to be playing but the bartenders were great and the vibes all around were awesome. Only thing is it's a beer and wine only spot and they don't serve any food so prepare accordingly. read more

A truly special sports bar in the middle of East Village. Yes, as others have explained, it's small. If you're more into the Midtown scene where you can watch a game in a sports bar the size of an airplane hangar, this probably won't do it for you. It'll be crowded, and there are maybe 10 seats total between the barstools and one two-top near the front door. So you'll probably be standing for whatever game you're trying to enjoy, but you'll be standing amongst some pretty great locals. It's a neighborhood bar where the bartenders are on a first name basis with many of the clientele. And if you're not a local, the bartenders will make you feel like one by asking your name, shaking your hand, and addressing you personally when you're in need of an additional beverage or your check. They only serve beer (and I'm sure wine, but I didn't see any visible bottles), so that may be a non-starter for many. But sports and beer go together like Donald J. Trump and criminal associates, so it's arguably all you need. From what I gathered, the owner is primarily a Jets, Mets, and Connecticut Huskies fan, so it's safe to say you can expect those games to be on TV the most often. But I hear they have almost every game on at least one of their screens, so you should be able to catch your favorite team regardless if it's one of the three teams I just described. It took me forever to finally go due to fear of that repeatedly echoed tiny, crowded narrative, but now I'm determined to make visiting a regular occurrence. read more

Best find of 2018. As of last year, I found my true sport spirit animal -- Hockey. It filled the void in my heart that I didn't even know exist. So when the 2018/2019 season started, I was determined to become a full fledged Rangers fan. Not being ready to jump into a SUPER macho bar as a new fan, I set out to find my own sport haven. I called in advance, to make sure they were hosting the Rangers and a cheerful voice on the end assured me they would have it on the main screen. The place is small, in fact it took me a while to find it. For all these years, when walking to Jimmy's 43 -- I was passing this bar. I had no idea. It's small, but has a load of character. I walked in, looking a little lost and the bartender stepped in to help. He recognized me from my call! Let me tell you something about this bartender, Aaron. Total babe! I felt comfortable instantly. It was like drinking in my friends' basement. An amazing thing to feel at the beginning of my first full season. He was funny and kind. I could tell the bar was full of regulars, they were all shooting the shit and it was fantastic. I waited for game time, while studying and watching the Capitals. Grabbed a pint and chilled out. They're three booths which can fit about 6/7 people. There bar stools as well. When my game was about to start, Aaron switched it over to the tv that was closest to me. IT SERIOUSLY WAS THE NICEST THING ANYONE HAS EVER DONE FOR ME. Seriously my heart swelled. The Rangers lost (like badly) but the experience was 10/10. I can't wait to go back, I've been inviting all my friends. It's so exciting to have "my" very own sports bar. :')) The only slight I have is that it is a SOFT LIQUOR bar. In its previous life as "Brewsky's" it was equally attractive, a tiny dive with a top-shelf beer selection, college sports memorabilia strewn across the walls, friendly bartenders, and a very low-key atmosphere. Coming in for major sporting events is hectic, unless you like getting throttled by sweaty dudes, but it fits the bill perfectly for low-key afternoon baseball games or just quiet talks with friends. Much can be said about Standings, which quite often gets overshadowed by the myriad of bars near-by. However, the most important thing to note, is that in a city filled with dreaded Yankee fans and crappy Yankees bars, Standings comes out as the pinnacle of Red Sox bars outside of Boston. But this isn't even the best part about this place. Even if it is November-March or an off-day for the Bosox, coming to Standings is still a great decision. With an ever-changing variety of delicious micro-brews from all across the world, a serious beer connoisseur can feel right at home here (and more importantly, not break the bank). Still it gets better; on Fridays there is free pizza (good as well) all night and once a month they have a special event, where they either pick up burgers from Paul's or cheesesteaks from 99 miles to Philly in mass proportions and dole them out to whomever wants one. Combined with friendly staff and an owner who makes frequent appearances, Standings is one of the most underrated bars in Manhattan. read more

Good place to watch a masshole sports, absolutely terrible place to watch anything else. Icing on the cake, this bar is absolutely disgusting. The floor and bar itself were covered in stale beer the last time I went in and it smells absolutely terrible. Even worse the bartenders couldn't care less. They seriously are solely there to watch whatever they want... Case in point, White Sox vs. Yankees tied in the top of the 9th. I ask them to switch the sound, Red Sox game noise (which is a blowout) has been blaring the whole game. They say NO. Seriously!?! I ask why and he turns his back on me. I proceeded to pour my almost full beer on the floor and walked out. Go somewhere else. Seriously. Phebe's is a few blocks away if your in the area and need to watch a game. read more

C-A-P-S CAPS CAPS CAPS! Finally found a legit CAPS bar in the city. I absolutely adore this tiny little sports bar packed to the gills with team paraphernalia from one side of a rivalry or another. The space is minute and fills up for big games, so "Standing" is what you might be doing. Body heat fills the space and you may find yourself shvitzing more than the athletes you're watching on TV, but hey, that's what a nice cold beer is for. Speaking of beer, Standings has an awesome selection of craft beers at really reasonable prices - $6 mostly. However, beer is all they serve, so if your lady friends only drink vodka sodas, I suggest you either buy them a 5th and a bottle of seltzer or simply leave them at home. The atmosphere is laid back and the seating limited, but the entire effect of the cluttered decor is great. Can't wait to watch the CAPS in round two of the playoffs here! read more

This is a sports and beer nerd haven. There are no fake sports fans or silly bandwagon girls in pink hats here, which is to say, it's fantastic. I'd been in once before, but with my out-of-state cousins, who were not into sports or craft beer. As a result, we didn't stay long. I'm happy to say this time, I had a much better experience. I went with my friend C, who is just as big a sports and beer nerd as I am. Between the Bruins-Flyers, March Madness, Devils-Pens, and Spring Training, we felt right at home. The sound for the basketball game was on, and we staked out a spot in front of the B's game (for HER, definitely not me!). The beer selection was varied and had enough choices to accommodate all beer drinkers without being overwhelming. I think they offered flights as well, but we went with the regular pints. The bartender also let us try a few samples of the stuff with which we weren't familiar. As for the bar itself, it's fun to just go in and take a look at all the random memorabilia (from all sports) covering the ceiling and walls: old bobbleheads, vintage banners, Sharpied walls, baseball cards, etc. It isn't a big place, so seating is very limited, but there are plenty of places to stand and there are plenty of hooks for bags and coats. There is no kitchen, but they have a huge binder full of menus for take-out. They also offer free pizza on Fridays and (I think) Atomic Wings another day of the week. Even though the guy at the door was in a Yankees tee, a keen eye will notice there seems to be a slight slant toward the Red Sox and other Boston sports. Having said that, though, it isn't in-your-face-Boston like the Hairy Monk or Professor Thom's, so I didn't have the urge to punch anyone. Despite that, this diehard Yankees fan is not ashamed to give five stars. Along with the fact that we were in a peaceful, super-laid-back bar on St. Patty's Day (!!), Standings makes the cut. I was walking to one of my usual haunts, Burp Castle... I popped into Burp and saw it was full and noisy - not what I was really in the mood for. I was heading back the way I came and passed the bar next door, which I knew in the back of my head was somehow "connected" with Burp Castle. I looked through the gating and saw football on the television. Normally this would have sent me packing - I am not much of a fan. I noticed though, that it was Cal (UC Berkeley) playing against UCLA. I peered at the score, saw that my Bears (I went to Berkeley) were doing a pretty good job of trouncing the Bruins, and then started to walk away. As I turned to leave I noticed a couple people inside wearing Cal paraphernalia - and then it hit me - this is where all the Cal alums come to watch games! Rachel (main bartender @ Burp) had once told me that. So I ventured inside the THOROUGHLY packed bar. I could barely get 3 feet beyond the door. It was FULL of Cal fans. I watched the game for a bit and then some (cute) girl spilled beer on me! So I headed towards the bar for a napkin and noticed that Rachel was working the bar! w00t! As I squeezed my way through the mass of humanity towards the bar, a girl accidentally close to groping me - I made some comment about barely even knowing her and moved on... I turned around a few moments later and we both had one of those "aha" moments. I knew her from Berkeley, classes and extracurriculars and such. We ended up talking for a good chunk of time... Wow. Talk about serendipity! This is the bar of happy coincidences... Now, for the important stuff: the beer! They have a fairly good selection of microbrews on tap. That's cool... The other nice thing is that they share the basement beer storage with Burp Castle! So you can get the same bottled beers as you can get at Burp! Score! Holy CRAP! Talk about an awesome beer selection in an unexpected place! Standings is it! You can catch just about any game you want-- with an AWESOME selection of brews! We stumbled in here after the Burp Castle was too fragrant for our taste. Good catch! We caught a hockey game on the way to our party. We had the chance to talk with some people at the bar, catch some great raspberry ale and a lighter palate cleanser, as well as have some cubs chatter. What more could you ask for? The place is really lit up- so you know what you are getting into. The bartender- a Boston native was friendly and helpful. I don't like sports. I don't even like beer very much. But Standings is one of my favorite "neighborhood" bars to stop by after work. Everyone who works here is awesome -- from the owner to the bartenders. Gary orders free pizza for the bar every Friday, bagels every Sunday, and some meat thing on special occasions that non-vegetarian people seem to really enjoy. Let that sink in: free pizza, bagels, and meats. The website lists upcoming events like pumpkin beer tastings or sports things. There's always a fun beer on tap that appeals to my non-beer-enjoying palate (think fruits) as well as super strong IPAs. There's a small wine list, too, nothing fancy. I think the card minimum is a pretty low $10. Standings is the type of casual place where you will want to become a regular. read more

I've never heard of a sports bar taking its name so literally. This bar had all of the NCAA basketball conference "Standings" written in chalk on the blackboard. I can't imagine being the guy updating that board every single day, that is a tough detail oriented job. I would trust that guy to not leave any detail unturned and get me a maximum refund on my taxes. My woman loved the vintage college banners. I loved the fact that I couldn't find any Yankees gear here and the place had a Mets tilt to it. Every little minute detail of this bar represents a passionate love for sports and the art of being a hardcore fan, which is something that truly feels refreshing in the East Village. The bartenders were great and the beer selection is rotating and original. I had a Naragansett and the fiancee had a beer called the Brewnette. If you are watching a game here expect a knowledgeable crowd that is here to talk sports. I was also impressed at the bartenders awareness, they know exactly what channel to flip to next after a game is over, leaving no break in the action. I'd imagine they plot out beforehand what channels they are going to flip to during the evening. This attention to detail is what separates Standings from a slew of other bars in the area. read more

But, I do get sick of Magner's and wish I could just get a simple diet coke or something. Where else but New York can you find a craft beer-slingin', semi-divey, sports bar the size of a studio apartment? Standings - presumably named for various league standings hand-updated on chalkboards hanging on the establishment's walls and/or the fact that you will likely be on your feet the whole time here - is not only the most unique sports bar in the city, but thankfully, one of the best. Kitschy sports memorabilia, do-dads, and knickknacks cover every inch of this small space. Think stadium beer cups strung and hung from the ceiling, collectable player bobbleheads, pennants, banners, and stickers instead of some pricey, nicely framed and matted, autographed black and white prints. Even the bathroom is wallpapered with sports section articles. It would seem every team, professional and collegiate, is represented here. Perhaps with the exception of one big one, but more on that later.... Standings prides itself on its seasonal (overwhelmingly American craft) beer selection. Brews are a necessity at sports bars, but the brand is typically an afterthought, with other places going the easy route for your generic lights from mega-breweries. Standings is clearly not like other places, and every time I've come in here, I'm pretty sure I've had something different and delicious. For your less bougie friends, however, Bud Light is your one low-brow option kept perpetually on draft (which, personally speaking, is the only acceptable Light out of the Bud-Miller-Coors trifecta). Despite its craft beer leanings, do not mistake Standings' affinity for lesser known taps for misguided hispterism, as this is still most definitely a sports bar of the highest order. I'm talkin' multiple TVs, sound blasting for the biggest game on at the time, and maybe 85% dudes. It's typically packed, but never overflowing. Just don't expect to sit down and it's a damn good spot to kill a long day of sports viewing (NFL Sundays, March Madness, go crazy, you name it). One thing, though - Standings is kinda-sorta-maybe-subtly anti-Yankees (I told you we'd get back to this one). With so many other teams represented here, it's easy to miss at first glance. But then you start seeing more and more blatant Red Sox fare and the search for anything Bronx Bombers-related becomes more ridiculous than a Where's Waldo? beach scene (you know the one I'm talkin' about). Even if I am a bit slighted to not see a hometown franchise get its fair share of real estate (I'm not so naive to believe everyone supports pinstripes, even here in New York), it certainly won't stop me from coming here, which is, in itself, a strong endorsement. Frankly, if it weren't for the dismissal of my Yanks, Standings would very likely be my favorite sports bar in the city. But, hey, you can't win 'em all. read more

I was blown away by Standings. Good American craft beer on draught sold in pints ($6) or 72 ounce pitchers ($20). I could probably just stop the review there and the 5 stars would already be justified. But even better they have plenty of screens to show every game, and they actually care enough to keep the sound on. I havent tested the rumors of pizza yet but this place is almost getting too good to be true. Go while you still can. The downside is that it is a small space and the secret is out. read more

I love Standings--it's a cozy (yup, I mean tiny) sports bar in the East Village owned by a really cool guy that just wanted to start up a bar where a bunch of people could get together with their fellow college alums, drink good micros and chill. I went to Standings not too long after they had first opened. I remember it well...(insert Wayne's World flashback "dodododo" waves) ...January 2, 2006. My beloved UF Gators were playing Iowa, and I didn't feel like hauling it all the way to our official home (the Gin Mill). Word had gotten out that there would be something going on at Standings--so my boyfriend and I headed over. Early. Because at 10am on a Saturday, you need a beer to watch your sad, erratic college team lose to the Hawkeyes. We got there just after the owner, and had the place to ourselves for a while (the game didn't kick off til noon). The owner was great and had brought out Gator gear for all of us. He also brought in a spread of eggs, bagels, and bacon to go along with our beer (because Standings doesn't have a kitchen). The micros were a good variety (I found some beer that was like UFO and stuck with it). The owner/'keep was awesome throughout our six hour stay, and the place was very comfy to watch a bunch of bowl games. I've been back a few times since (not so early!) and always had a great time. And, the Gators beat out the Hawkeyes too! So, I kinda look at Standings as my lucky location for post-season play. Don't be surprised if you see me there in January, early in the morning, downing a microbrew and munching on whatever warm food I can get:) read more
