Farside Tavern has pretty much everything you'd want from a sports bar. First of all, they have a whole bunch of different TV screens all around, showing all the local sports teams and covering all games currently going on. Secondly, the service is great. On the topic of the TVs, I could see that the moment a game ended, one of the workers would immediately change the channel to another game. Aside from this though, our bartender (Valerie) and the manager were both super friendly and attentive. They clearly wanted to make sure we were taken care of and enjoying our experience. The place has a lively vibe with a great upbeat music selection without it being too loud to talk to others. It was fairly busy when we went on a Saturday night but I still didn't feel like it was really crowded or anything. There is a good amount of seating both at the bar and at tables elsewhere. As for the food, I got the boneless wings, which were 10 for $14 (decent deal). I tried some with parmesan garlic on it, which were fine but not great as they were slightly dry. However, I also tried some with the BBQ sauce and those were great - nicely crispy, moist, and much better than the others. The fries were also decent. To drink, I got an Orange Crush cocktail ($15), which is great if you like fruity drinks. This one basically just tasted like orange juice with some vodka in it (but it wasn't strong). My friend tried a bunch of other drinks and said that he was very impressed with all the cocktails that he got. Overall, with a great lively environment, all the local sports games showing on the many TVs, friendly service, and good food / drinks, Farside Tavern is the place to go in Hoboken for a good time out with friends or even if you're just trying to watch your favorite team play while enjoying some good vibes. read more

*Drink review only* Decided to stop in on a whim for a pre-dinner drink. It was a Wednesday at around 5 so it was still pretty dead. They have different happy hour food/drink specials each night. I think when we were there, it was $2 off cocktails. I had the frozen strawberry lemonade and my husband had the frozen pina colada. Both were SO sugary sweet and we didn't feel great afterwards. All that sugar + probably cheap liquor is just a recipe for disaster. 2nd time here and I really like this place! I really wanted nachos so my boyfriend and I tried to go to 8th st ave tavern. It was crowded and after waiting a while to get the bar tenders' attention we ended up leaving. We walked past Farside and remembered we previously had a nice time there. This time we decided to sit in the covered patio area. We got chicken nachos Mac and cheese and a few rounds of drinks. The patio area had a few games available. We played uno and had a great time. The nachos were standard, could've used some more cheese. The mac and cheese is really good considering this is a bar/tavern. The servers are super friendly. We had so much fun tonight. Went to lunch here. Ordered a sandwich, the wrong one came out. I took two bites and - what is pretty mediocre food anyway - it was that it was wrong. Fine. It happens. So I told the waitress "this is not what I ordered". She just kind of stared at me. I said I did not order this sandwich (it was like a cheesesteak with ranch and bacon and all this stuff I did not want, nor did I order). Anyway I sent it back. Not only did she not offer to make a new one, she kept it on my bill. Like $20 for something I didn't want nor didn't eat. It's not that great of a place in general. Really generic. Not great beer selection. Food is fine, not great. But dang, when you mess something up at least try to make it right. Lady did not care one single bit. So that''s Farside. Mediocre food and ambience. Terrible service (if you can get it). Plenty of other bars on Washington street. Avoid. It's been a few years since I've left a review. Truly enjoy Farside every now and then. Food is solidly good. Not great, but good. You may have to request a fork and knife for your food; they seem to think it is an optional item. Izzy is here today, he is the Star. Make sure you have him wait on you at the tables, or when he's at the bar, or doing both. The owner's son is here 'helping'. Which means he's drinking, eating, on his cell phone while Izzy works his tail off. Found this place after strolling around town. Really great place to hang out in the heart of Hoboken with great food and drink specials. Half price burgers on Tuesdays. Outdoor patio seating is small and cozy with TVs and booths. Only downside is that people tend to smoke outside with no apparent care or respect for non-smokers. read more

Saturday nights in da 'boken can get pretty crazy. After midnight, most of the more 'popular' spots have massive lines that sprawl down the block, or are so packed inside that you've barely got room to move or breathe. Me thinks not. If you aren't afraid to travel a little further uptown on Washington St, then you can ditch the crowds and claim all of the space that you need over at Farside, which is literally on the far side of the heavily concentrated area of Hoboken bars. It's definitely low-key, so don't expect a crazy party. But if you purposely left the madness that is Black Bear or Mills then you probably already knew that. I came here to escape the crowds with a few friends last Saturday night and we were really happy that we came. It was still nice enough to sit outside, and we were able to claim a table as our own and easily order drinks. Oh, and being able to hear each other speak was also a pretty nice perk. Don't get me wrong, it's fun to go to some of the louder bars and dance. But after a while when you've had enough and just want to have a drink and chill then this is the perfect place to end the night. So much so, that I don't even mind traveling over to the 'far side' of town. read more

Darts! High quality metal darts and nearby chalkboards to keep score. We were here with a group of 10-12, so we paired up and played some epic games on this board. Very relaxed atmosphere. It's a medium sized bar, but it looks like there is more room in the back. I didn't try the food but it seemed like traditional bar food. It smelled good, but just about anything deep fried smells super yummy Drinks were on the inexpensive side. Bartenders were relaxed. We lost one of the darts when one person in our group decided to throw the dart into a bulls skull that was hanging on the wall. Perhaps he was shooting for a literal bullseye? I just met this dude that night, but they introduced him as DB. Wonder what that stands for... Still, the real story here is how nice the bartenders were about it. I love a bar that treats its regulars well. Izzy is the man and always hooks us up. Probably the best thing about Farside is the outdoor area. Want to to smoke? Head outside? Too cold? They have a fire place. Raining? They have umbrellas! Need TV? Look up top! I'm also a fan of the dart board in the front. Farside has happy hour deals and some others during the week. Don't expect much on the weekend though. Also the food is great, the fries in particular. Farside was been, and will remain to be, one of my go to bars. read more

The waitress from the restaurant next door went to ask them to stop because there were kids dining nearby and they still didnt stop. The owner needs a tighter grip on his guests. Stopped by one Sunday because of the drink specials posted outside. $2 Labatt Blue Pints $3 Coors Light Pints These sold us immediately, so I don't even recall the other specials, though $7 Mojito seems to ring a bell. Even got a non-beer drinker, who couldn't say no to $2 suds, to indulge in one. They've got a nice patio in the front and back, which makes for good people watching, the staff was quite friendly, they chill their glasses in a low tech but effective way (ice water), and they have food (which we didn't try but looked like typical bar fare). It wasn't crazy busy like many of the other bars, I'm guessing because it's not loaded with TV's like typical game watching venues, which was great for us! The interior seemed a bit dark, though. Rarely is farside in the plans for the night, but its a nice spot to pass through for a drink. They tend to play more rock music and less pop, which is perfect! They have a dart board, photo-hunt, and nice long bar. Service is good. Good summer spot since they have a little roofless patio area in the back. Came here for the first time and was skeptical at first but WOW. Came for drinks and a good atmosphere and ended up getting both along with great food! They have fun games on the patio to play and when we asked if they had a deck of regular cards to play the owner said "ill be right back" and went to the bodega down the street and got us a pack of cards. Farside is cheap, and close to Stevens. Naturally, it's full of Stevens students. It's also a very cool dive bar with a dart board and a back patio. I often found myself here between classes for a beer and some darts. Smoking on the back patio was nice sometimes too. This was the 3rd stop on our bar crawl. read more

This is going to be a long post. I faced the worst dining experience at Farside Tavern. I went in on 10/14/2021 to grab some drinks and food with a friend. We were greeted by Joe (who was really good) and served us our beer and nachos promptly. We decided to order a portion of pretzel bites that were served to us by Joe as well. My friend and I had a bite of the pretzel each and we realized that they were baked a bit extra and we could literally taste the burnt bread flavour. We tried getting hold of Joe but giving how busy the place was, we were unable to get his attention. Here's where the experience started to spiral down. Since we were unable to get hold of Joe (our original server), we found another server (a short guy with ponytail hair and tattoos) and informed him that we were unhappy with how the pretzel tasted and we would like it to be replaced. Unlike any other server who would simply get a new plate, this guy seemed ready to fight! He started arguing saying this is how they served it and that they should not taste burnt, all without tasting it. He even seemed to imply that we have issues with our taste buds! I nicely, yet sternly told him that I didn't care for a new plate and that I didn't even care if he charged us for the "extremely well done" pretzel, we just didn't like it. Yet he would continue to argue. When he ran out of ways to try and insult us, he took the pretzels and half-eaten plate of nachos and went off. He came back with the check (he charged us only for the drinks) and asked us to leave (which we would have either way). I managed to get hold of Joe, told him the entire scenario and he apologized. However, the other guy definitely does not belong in the Hospitality industry. If you want sub-par food, horrible server experience and cheap booze this is the place to go. There are much better bars and taverns in the vicinity that deserve your business. read more

Tonight I attempted to walk into Far Side Tavern and was immediately accosted by the two bouncers. They accused me of having a fake ID based on absolutely nothing before even looking at my identification. This was so preposterous I honestly thought it was a joke. When I showed the bouncer my ID he looked at it for barely a second before announcing it was fake (I still thought he was joking at this point). He then proceeded to ask me what county I live in, the county is not printed on an identification and this question made no sense. When I didn't answer that question he took my ID went inside and refused to give it back. I begged and explained over and over that my identification card is real, said I just wanted to take it and go home, recited my address, told them my age (which is 25), etc but the two bouncers continued to just stare at me and laugh. They did not scan the ID, they did not ask me any valuable questions to assess if my ID was real, they simply insisted it was fake. At this point, I called the police but they still refused to give me the identification back. Finally, I was forced to return home to my apartment and receive other forms of identification to prove my identity and my age. When I returned with my passport, W-2, social security card, lease, etc they still just stared at me laughing and took still another few minutes before returning my identification. This situation was completely disrespectful and unprofessional. The bouncers are not properly trained or qualified to be bouncers, and they do not have the proper equipment to assess the validity of an identification. This establishment should be assessed by the authorities to determine if they are even capable of identifying a fake ID, I think based on my situation they are most likely allowing underage people into their premises unknowingly due to their lack of ability in properly determining the validity of identification cards. read more

Bartenders are pretty cool. It's a chill spot to sit and talk, throw darts, back room has a fireplace and extra seating, drinks aren't over priced like at Bahama Mama's or some other bro-bars on Washington st. Never had a bad experience there even on the busiest of weekends. read more
