Farley Mac's is an Irish restaurant located in Simsbury, CT serving pub, comfort, and American food. The parking lot was spacious and the restaurant looks like it used to be a historic home. My family and I went there for lunch on a Saturday. There was a dining room with a bar and large fireplace. We sat at the first dining room. It was cozy and definitely seemed to have regulars there. I appreciate that they had a kids menu and high chairs for my children. The menu had a good selection of food and drinks; they even had a great happy hour menu and daily drink specials. On this visit, I started off with a fig Cosmo drink, wow, that was delicious. For my meal, I had the Shepard's pie which came with seasoned meat, corn, mashed potatoes, brown gravy, and cheddar jack cheese. My kids had Mac and cheese and fries. My husband had the blueberry smash drink and the San Fran Sandwich which came with turkey, arugula, herb mayonnaise, Monterey Jack cheese, and bacon on grilled sourdough bread; he said it was good. Service prompt and very friendly Inside dining looked good with several televisions all focused on sports. Restaurant offered outside dining option and music on patio. A guitarist played contemporary hits. I selected the spicy margarita from the large specialty drinks menu. Very good spice and flavor. They offered about half dozen beers on tap. Bang bang shrimp good appetizer choice. Five shrimp fried in a light panko breading with bang bang sauce with zesty heat. Main dishes were good. Granted this is an off pairing but the Bbq keilbabsa over Mac n cheese outstanding. Blackened chicken over mashed potato and Gorgonzola was good. Mashed potatoes were lacking flavor. Dessert was very good. One of the partners, Kevin, graciously checked in on our experience. He shared the reason for bbq kielbasa on the menu. The vibe at this location was just perfect for us. Farley Mac's is my kind of place. The local crowd seems to feel the same! I've driven by far too many times and each time, one says to self, "I've got to check this place out." Finally, on a nice sunny Sunday at noon time with pup in tow; well, maybe we were in tow. The outdoor seating wide open and pup was welcome to join us. As we sat, the friendliest server greeted the 3 of us. Menu discussed and even the world famous Farley Pup Plate (crumbled burger & bacon)! The jealous humans ordered the Farley Burger with bacon and sautéed onions and Turkey Bacon Club. A draft ale and fresh un-sweetened iced tea arrived. While we waited, the local crowd appeared and departed in a well orchestrated fashion as if this was an every Sunday routine. Fine with me because each passerby in departure mode had a face of content pleasure. I took a brief stroll inside to wash up; inside comfy tables, bar room in back, and ship like passage to the "one horse heads." Our two plates and pup bowl arrived. The plates one with fries and the other with coleslaw well portioned for sharing, which the human pets did with one and other. You can skip the chowder, and I was a little disappointed they didn't have chicken Parmigiano, (my birthday wish) but everything I have eaten here has been good. They offer just five Happy Hour food choices, Each is $7 and their HH menu lists the five (Fried Pickles, Pierogis, BBQ Kielbasa, Grilled Cheese Bites and Loaded Tots) as "Appetizers". Now we've hit enough Happy Hours to know that some HH food portions are miniscule. This was our first trip to Farley Mac's, so in an abundance of caution we ordered four of them - all except the pickles. So how surprised were we to see these huge platters of "appetizers" appear on our table. Not only were the portions big but the quality was terrific. The BBQ Kielbasa was terrific- nicely grilled chunks with a yummy BBQ sauce. The Grilled Cheese bites were a whole grilled cheese sandwich cut into strips with a cup of tomato soup. The tots were loaded with cheese and bacon and grilled onions, same as the Pierogis. We ended taking more than half of this feast home. No review of our HH experience would be complete without lavishing praise on our server. Laura was a delight, as friendly and charming as anyone. She even gave us a complimentary Valentines Day candy that I'm pretty sure she made herself. Farley Macs was great -the dining room is warm and welcoming, their classic rock playlist was perfect for our tastes, and we loved the neighborhood vibe inside. It seemed that everyone inside knew each other and I enjoyed the friendly banter they shared with each other and with Laura. This location has had a troubled history, with a Pizza and then a Thai restaurant coming and disappearing over the years. But Farley Macs sure looks like it will be around for a long time. read more

Was driving by and noticed how welcoming it looked from the outside. Had to go in. The inside was even more welcoming... very homey, and just comfortable. Indoor and outdoor tables, and seating at the bar. The cheeseburger was excellent. 8 ozs of Angus beef on a Kaiser roll. Choice of ff, pasta salad or potato salad as the side. I opted for the ff, which were good. Lots of happy hour (2 to 6) app specials. Kara, the barmaid / table server was excellent. One additional plus worth mentioning. There are two kielbasa choices. One appie and one sandwich. They feature Janik kielbasa (made in Enfield CT by the same family since 1899). IMHO, Janik is one of the best. We went with the Half order of Nachos adding grilled chicken, jalapeños on the side & a Farley Burger W/ fries cooked medium adding bacon. Order was hot and ready to pick up in less than 20 minutes & totaling UNDER $40.00!!! Amazing Value. This spot has a classic Pub atmosphere in the cozy dinner area and the sleek bar. Food was great and hot when we got back to eat. Burger was thick and juicy full of flavor and not greasy really hitting the spot. We decided to stop here for lunch based on the high reviews. Unfortunately, our experience wasn't positive. The service was very good, the ambience was ok, but the food was... abysmal. The grilled cheese pulled pork sandwich was a hit with a teenage boy who was "starving". However, the adult who sampled it found it heavy and dripping with grease. The Shepherd's Pie was not good to say the least. The "mashed potatoes" tasted like institutional-grade flakes from a box. The "Seasoned meat" was flavorless, as was the gravy. While some home cooks substitute corn for the traditional peas and carrots in Shepherd's Pie, it was disappointing to see an "Irish" restaurant do it. Out of the three dishes ordered, the meatloaf sandwich was the worst. The meatloaf itself was dry on the inside and burnt on the outside. It had obviously been reheated multiple times, and the overcooking robbed it of any real flavor. Not sure why anyone would serve cheap American cheese slices on meatloaf when other cheeses like smoked gouda taste 1,000 times better, but even smoked gouda couldn't help at this point. While the French bread was soft and fresh, the meatloaf was literally inedible. Two thirds of the sandwich was left on the plate. Maybe we caught Farley Mac's on a bad day, but it's clear there is a LOT of room for improvement in regard to the quality of what was being served. read more

I was so excited for Farley Pub to re open. Unfortunately the female manager stayed with the company, which in my opinion was a huge mistake. I used to go weekly. But, every time I was there she'd sit at the bar, even when patrons were trying to sit complaining about her divorce. If you want to know all about it I can tell you that's how obnoxious. The waitresses and bartenders would be drowning around her and she'd just sit there complaining about her ex husband. Customers brought up how much the servers need help and she rolls her eyes, like it's a bother to work. I've watched her be so incredibly rude to customers. Sad this place was GREAT til she came along and unfortunately until she leaves it won't get better. read more

I love hamburgers. I've had hamburgers all over the world. I've had hamburgers all over the Farmington Valley. While it is easy to rate Five Guys as having an excellent hamburger, Wayback in Granby has a good hamburger, shake shack in West Hartford has excellent hamburgers....the Farley Burger beats them all. Large, thick, cooked to order (med rare) with a great bun, lettuce & tomato & cheese, let me tell you this is one outstanding hamburger. Try one. You won't be disappointed! read more

A group of 4 went on a Saturday night recently and sat in the bar because the weather wasn't good enough to sit outside. 2 got the steak tips, i had a buffalo chicken wrap and hubby had the meatloaf sandwich. What a fabulous restaurant! Service was genuinely kind and welcoming. Small place with plenty of room for seating and enjoyment. The food was so good. We started with hot honey wings, perfect sweetness to go along with the hot. French dip was devoured by make spawn, Buffalo chicken dip was to die for had by female spawn and chicken wrap enjoyed by squidward. I, enjoyed the pretzels. Baked to perfection!! I had heard a lot about this place so I wanted to try it. It is pub fare with a bit of Irish and Polish mixed in, and was ok. First, service was excellent, it seemed like one person had all the tables but she did a great job. Food was average. I had a Fried Chicken sandwich with honey hot sauce but it may have been buffalo. Not sure. (See picture). The wings were good. Nothing special. I actually prefer the wings to have a crunchy skin and not soft skin. My other diner had a plain fried chicken sandwich which was ok also. My son has a theory about chicken sandwiches that if they are served with stuff on them (besides pickles) then they are not very good. He may have a point. My final (slightly snobby) criticism is that the Coke was served in plastic cups. I know that is a stupid detail, but I am an adult, I know how to drink from a glass! The bar is a bit of an afterthought here, it is out of place in the middle of the dining room. There is also a 4 top table by the restrooms that is not a place you would want to sit. read more

My lovely wife and I were looking for some place we haven't been, and were delighted to find Farley Mac's. Located in front of a small shopping center, next to a package store, and across the street from a big-box truck supply store, Farley is definitely the jewel of the crown. Half of their parking lot has been converted to outdoor dining, complete with live entertainment. We sat outdoors, on a cool evening, with our jackets, but the warmth of the atmosphere more than made up for the crisp temperature. Their menu is a selection of appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches , burgers and small plates. Possibly described as pub grub...but in a good way. We had their corn chowder, clam chowder, the Farley burger, and a grilled Rueben. Everything was prepared with care, and served by extremely friendly servers. My wife was pleasantly surprised to find some shrimp added to her corn chowder. My clam chowder was delectable. Her Farley burger was cooked to a perfect medium, and was topped with cheese and mushrooms, as well as a decent portion of added smothered onions. My Rueben was everything one would hope for in a Rueben...tender corned beef, tart kraut, a goodly amount of 1000 island, and melty Swiss, all on marble rye that was grilled long enough to hold up to the ingredients inside. The highlight of the evening was the appearance of the owner, Kevin Farley, who came out to greet us, ask where we were from, and proceeded to have a nice conversation with us about his place, it's history, his hope we enjoy and return, and that he hoped we enjoy our "date night!" My coworker and I were on a business trip in the area and had yelped this place as well as our sales rep suggesting this spot for lunch and darn it we found good!!! We met one of the partners who told us the history of opening the restaurant right before Covid shut them down and how they have weathered the pandemic. Our waitress was very attentive and always smiling and eager to help in any way. The atmosphere was great and very comfortable like a family place to eat and have great conversation. I started with the Buffalo wings (asked for burnt very well crispy) and to my wonderful surprise they were very well crisped and just exactly how I hoped. Many places aren't so accommodating with my request. My coworker got the perogi appetizer and enjoyed them, they looked to be deep fryer dropped to cook and came with sweet sweat onions and sour cream drizzle. For lunch we both orders the tomato and mozz salad. I also added to blackened salmon for protein and was delightfully graced with a 5-6 ounce portion of perfectly prepared blackened salmon probably the best salmon I've had anywhere to be honest. Not over cooked just right and the best seasoning ratio. The mozzarella was soft and tasty, the balsamic drizzle sweet and thick. I would definitely go again and look forward to the next time we have a business trip in the area to try out some more of the menu. read more

I know your favorite place can't always be good so my latest visit was a disappointment. The service is always good so no complaint there. The atmosphere is quaint, a good feel kind of place. The food last night was just not very good. Also my drink came out with an orange slice that was moldy. I got the fish sandwich and it came out so greasy it was literally dripping. The fish was thin and over cooked and again full of oil. I just couldn't eat it. I reordered pierogis with a side of sour cream and it came out with the sour cream all over the top. I was shocked at the quality of the food as this place has always been top notch. Maybe just a bad night for me. I sure hope that's all it is. Will try it again in a few weeks. read more

This is an excellent restaurant. The staff are pleasant and Kevin greets customers new and old regularly and is sincerely interested in making sure you enjoy the place and the food . Of the course of the last year or two I have had the excellent Texas style chili, the BBQ kielbasa bites, burgers, the French Dio and the Fish and Chips. All have been very good or excellent . Worst salad ever. Actually, the Caesar itself wasn't bad. It's just that I had to search for the steak that I ordered on top of it because the portion was so small and once I did find it was not even close to cooked to medium rare and half of it was grizzle. My husband and I recently moved to Simsbury and Farley Mac's is one of our favorite restaurants here. We love the cozy atmosphere, and the service and food have always been consistently good. It's the kind of place where the owner comes around to ask you how your meal is...I say this because this has happened to us on two separate occasions. It is nice to be able to put a face to a local business...really helps to make the place feel more homey. The food. I LOVE the Mac and cheese with pulled pork....like...it's amazing. I also recommend the fish and chips...their batter is the perfect texture and the fish is cooked perfectly. My only complaint (note: this will in no way stop me from coming back....it's more of a "help me help you" situation....I sincerely hope the owner reads this and takes note) is that the coleslaw is truly terrible. Every time we go by this place it's packed, and now we know why! Many restaurants have come and gone in this space, but I think this is the one that's going to hang on.
