Had the best experience at Far Niente. We are members and have done the tour a few times. So this time we opted for the seated tasting on the grounds. Weather was lovely, the fountain and beautiful flowers provided an idyllic setting to enjoy a few select wines. Our server Michael was so accommodating and kind. Couldn't leave without taking a few bottles home. read more

Far Niente is truly one of the most beautiful wineries in Napa, and visiting during fall made it even more breathtaking. We specifically went for the fall foliage, and it did not disappoint - the long, perfectly manicured rows of trees turning shades of gold and amber were absolutely stunning. It honestly felt like walking through a postcard. Beyond the scenery, the grounds are immaculate and the entire experience feels elegant and timeless. read more

Far niente was my favorite wine tasting I did on my trip! The tour was very informative and it was very nice to see the underground area where they store the wine. I am not really a red wine girly but I thought the red wine at Far niente was surprisingly good paired with the cheeses that come with the tasting. Everybody was very nice and the grounds were absolutely beautiful! Would highly recommend if you are in Napa! read more

Far Niente - Wine Tour & Tasting - Wineries Near Me - Oakville, California

A friend recommended we go to Far Niente, so we couldn't wait to visit with a tour and tasting! Arriving on the property was so beautiful! The floral gardens throughout that are so serene. We were greeted with a tasting of Chardonnay and then started the tour. It was neat because their tour goes underground and ends in the original house on the property, so you get all the history. We enjoyed all the wine paired perfectly with a variety of cheeses, crackers, and dried fruit - YUM! Our tour guide was phonemail, answering all our questions and not rushing us through the process. Such a great time here! read more

One of our favorite wineries on our second trip to Napa! The grounds are breathtaking, and the wine measures up. We loved it enough to order some bottles. Service was excellent. We enjoyed a private tasting with a view of the landscaping. It was relaxing. The cheese pairing was great as well. read more

Beautiful and fabulous wine. Cheese plate was fine but nothing remarkable. Went with a member so didn't see the cave. Grounds, building and cars were an added bonus. We went on a rainy day and it was still stunning. read more

Gorgeous drive up to the property in the Spring, Summer and Fall. Recommend arriving early or staying after your tasting to enjoy a walk around the water area. Tastings are set with a limited curated wine selection. Compared to the other family wineries, there is less of a selection here. You'll learn about the interesting history with the guided tour. This property also has a more upscale, posh feel compared to Nickel & Nickel or Bella Union. read more

Far Niente - Wine pairing with a perfect spread of goodies! - Wineries Near Me - Oakville, California

First visit to Far Niente and definitely not the last. Had the pleasure of Michael as our expert / guide, and he's truly what makes the experience special. He's knowledgeable but not in a showy way. It felt concierge-level and tailored to us. Was prescriptive, thoughtful, and engaging. You can tell he genuinely cares about the craft. What really set this tasting apart was how clearly the winemaking process is explained. Michael broke down the "why" behind the wines from the farming, barreling, and precision, in a way that makes you truly appreciate justified quality and process, not just branding or scarcity. The property itself is beautiful and secluded, with great attention to detail inside the caves. The wines were fantastic, and we were happily convinced to take home some of the 2016 Cave Collection cab. An authentic, elevated experience from start to finish. Highly recommend. read more

Don't go here for any events. Skeptical of Racism at this winery against Asian people. One of the worst experiences. The front desk person is extremely rude in the first place and faces attitudes. The wine tasting experience was done in haste. The server kicked us out saying that our hours are 5 minutes over. We said yes, and that we are waiting for one person to come back from the bathroom. When taking photos, the server restricted to not take photos. I heard from multiple servers asking us to leave. read more

From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed with a pour of wine by a kind gentleman at check in--such a nice touch! My husband David and I had a private tasting with John, who was amazing-super knowledgeable, friendly, and made the whole experience feel special. The tasting included a delicious cheese pairing, a tour of the wine caves, and a stroll through their beautiful spring gardens. I'm usually a red wine girl, but their Chardonnay really surprised me-it was smooth and refreshing. We ended up taking home two bottles: their Cabernet and Pinot Noir. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxing, scenic, and high-end Napa experience! read more

An incredible wine tasting experience. The venue is the best in all of Napa valley in my opinion, with many benches and walk paths to stroll and soak in the quaintness of the grounds. Jill was such a great host, told us about all the history of the venue and educated us of the wine & cheese pairings. Pairings were perfect! The cabs were all outstanding, and the Dulce desert wine paired with blue cheese was hands down the best wine and cheese combo I've had. If you're going to do multiple wineries in a trip, definitely leave a little extra time for this one to walk around the property and take some photos. read more

Far niente was one of our favorite stops in Napa! The estate is beautiful and we loved learning about the rich history behind the winery and their sister wineries. One of the unexpected highlights was the incredible car collection on display, such a unique touch that made the experience even more special. Our tasting guide was fantastic, knowledgeable, warm, and passionate about the wine and the story behind them. We ended up leaving with their membership, that's how much we enjoyed it. read more

We just left our first visit to Far Niente. The property is absolutely stunning and the staff is all SO nice, not an ounce of pretention. The wine is really good too, but it's the people and the ambiance that really make the experience. Our host Stephanie was so much fun and the tour was very informative and interesting. What a wonderful surprise. I think it was the most expensive tasting we've ever done but absolutely worth it. read more

Far Niente - If you love plants (like I do), this place is heaven - Wineries Near Me - Oakville, California

Far Niente winery features a beautiful setting and a decent selection of wines, but is definitely overrated. The grounds are lovely, but the staff was just okay, which detracted from the experience. While the wines are pleasant, they don't really stand out compared to other options. I did attend with a wine club member, so there were different pours offered. But I would have expected a better experience at the member area. read more

This place has been on my bucket list for quite a while, and I finally had the opportunity to visit. We did not do the cave tour and tasting, but we did do a guided private winetasting in the main house. What a outstanding experience! We sat in a private room that overlooked Oakville from up high, and you can't beat that view. With the class and outstanding wines this had everything from a high end experience. but to top it off, our wine guide was fabulous. Engaging and conversational, not snobbish, but full of knowledge and recommendations. I can't take this place off my bucket list until I go into the wine caves however, so I have an excuse to come back! read more

Loved the cave tour and tasting here! But warning, it is pricey. Sadly, I did not enjoy any of the wines we tasted but our host Stephanie was super friendly, the property was gorgeous (tons of breathtaking views and photos to take), the tour was fun and interesting, which included going through their cave, and the food pairing was fun. Worth the time and stop. My wife and I were visiting the wine country for a few days and had so looked forward to our tour and tasting. We'd been fans of the label for years but had never visited. We were warmly greeted by Cynthia and a nice glass of their 2024 Chardonnay to start the day. Aidan then arrived to spend the rest of the tour with us and we are grateful that he did. He did a wonderful job in giving us a history of the facilities and then guided us on our tasting. It was a wonderful experience and Aidan also did a great job navigating our purchaser of wines and helped to arrange shipping. We are so glad that we booked this experience and look forward to our return visit. The highlight was the Oakville cab and the 2021 Dolce to finish off the experience. read more

For $120 apiece for a tasting, I would have expected better. The wines were good but the tasting was less than an ounce for each pour. The food items that came with it were minimal. The grounds are beautiful but don't expect value for the tasting. read more

I wish I could give this place a negative star, which is my first time doing that on Yelp. This is the first winery ever in my life with a security guard. We were planning to come in and join the wine club based on what we heard, but they would not allow you in without a reservation. Well, fine then. We wanted to take photos from outside the property entrance and leave. The security guard was strict and a terrible guy with a lot of bad words I want to use. We took a photo but her purposely blocked the path. This is a bald older guy. If a place wants to be this exclusive, why advertise it publicly on social media? I feel like Far Niente is lying for this kind of stance on visitors and hiring an "A" security guard. read more

What an amazing experience!! We were very fortunate to have Elias as our host. I cannot even express enough how charming and knowledgeable he was about not only wine, but of the beautiful history of the property! What an absolute pleasure to be his group! Cynthia was a wonderful surprise too. Not only is this winery beautiful but the entire staff made the experience even better. Do not skip this place, it will not disappoint you. If you can request Scott to be your tour guide, you'll have the best experience. He was fun, flirty and able to speak laymen's terms to newbs and get technical with people who asked highly engaged questions. Interesting learn - chocolate competes with wine so don't consume it with wine when tasting. The property is gorgeous. The barrel storage area made you want to find a dark corner to kiss your lover. The overall experience felt high-end but not pretentious. Small pours so don't expect to walk out tipsy. They don't offer NA options. read more

Far Niente - Small charcuterie paired with Chardonnay, Pinot noir, two Cabernet Sauvignons and a late harvest sweet wine. - Wineries Near Me - Oakville, California

Where to start? For our annual birthdays trip, Yolie said she wanted to come here because it is her favorite chardonnay, so she booked us a tasting. We drove up, the woman at the parking lot said to park, and when we checked in with her, she gave us a 2 oz pour of wine to welcome us. Cynthia - When you're done, come back down and walk around the fountain What a great way to start our visit! We went up to the lobby of the main house. There was a large tasting going on at one end, and what looked like a small tasting in a corner. We waited for Dimitri in the comfy sofas near the spiral staircase. He came out and introduced himself and gave us a little history of the building and winery. He then stated we were going to be doing our tasting in one of the offices, which are set up as small tasting rooms. It makes it more intimate and quiet, as there was a larger tasting outside the door. The set ups are really nice! Dimitri is a wealth of information of all things wine! We had a really great experience learning about the different vintages. I would have to say that my favorite was the Bella Union Cabernet....soooooo good! The other was the Far Niente 2018 Cabernet which was good too but much bolder than I prefer. The chardannay was amazing! Unlike other chardannays I've had elsewhere. The Dolce was really good as well, though on the sweet side. We loved how Dimitri explain the process of each wine we tasted. It was a wonderful experience! The drive up can only be described as magical! I'm sad I missed coming up here when the leaves change color. We plan to come back next year and visit their other properties as well! But if you really want to treat yourself, book a tasting and/or tour, and ask for Dimitri. Grazie Far Niente! Ti vogliamo bene! read more

We had the honor to tour one of our favorite wineries here in Napa, Far Niente. Just like how their wine taste, the property of Far Niente is truly an exceptional place with such a whimsical atmosphere that truly feels like a place out of a story book. One of my faves when I went to Napa. Reserved a tasting and tour in advance and it was so worth it! Had our own room for the tasting and the tour was really cool. You get to go underground in the caves. Really fun! They also have a classic car collection that you can see through the garage door (super dope) but they no longer let people in because of course one person ruined it for everyone and spilled wine on one of them. Our tour guide was very informative AND funny which was a plus! It's a beautiful property as well. Spend some time by the pool/bar as well as the lake. It's beautiful! The wine was amazing! My fave was the merlot we tried and I normally don't like Merlot. They paired them all with a specific wine and cheese which were all good and got to see what the wine tasted like before and after the pairing. They also give military a discount (half off) which is an amazing deal for what you receive. I would definitely go here again! read more

I really enjoy Far Niente's chardonnay, and I recently got to visit the winery for the first time for a tour and tasting. I drove through beautiful gardens and canopy trees to make my way to the parking lot. At the parking lot I was able to check-in for my tasting and given a taste of white wine. I learned that arriving a bit early for your tasting allows you some time to walk around the grounds before your tasting begins. The owners made their money through the garden/nursery business, so the beauty and charm of the winery is by design. There is a bit of walking from the parking lot up to the tasting room. I did see golf carts zipping around, so if you have mobility issues, I'm sure they can accommodate you in getting around. I signed up for a group tasting, but was the only one during that time. It was probably just because it wasn't peak season and also midweek. Perhaps being the only one lead to my host being a bit cringy, but at times chatting with him was uncomfortable. The tour of the caves was really interesting. At the end of the tasting, I was left alone in a room, which I found kind of odd. I have a tendency to get lost, so not walking me back to the front seemed a little silly and also felt like a missed opportunity to get me to buy some wine. I did end up purchasing a couple bottles, but it was just so awkward to find my own way back and then navigate how to checkout. I still love their wine. I just wish the tasting experience was as amazing as the gardens and grounds. read more

Far Niente was our last stop of our second day of wine tasting in Napa Valley. I was honestly tired and wanted to get this last tasting over with, as we've already done 3 tastings and I was all wined out. As we approached the closed gate with our rental car, the gate slowly opened, and we drove inside. Everything about this place was so enchanting. You HAVE to see it. The Far Niente estate is easily one of the most beautiful estates in Napa Valley. It felt like I had stepped into a fairy-tale. We checked in with one of the staff members who had us wait a short while before our wine specialist, Eva came to get us and showed us to our table. Even though, we were probably her last group for the day, she was so hospitable and did not rush us at all. She started off by giving us some historical facts of the winery, talking to us about the wines, and getting a feel of the kind of wines my husband and I liked. Eva is so knowledgeable and awesome. You can just tell how passionate she is about wines! I know I said I was all wined out, but the wines here are just wonderful, and how could I resist drinking these wines! Not to mention, Eva had curated our wine tasting according to what we liked and was now giving us additional wines from Nickel and Nickel, and EnRoute to try. Obviously, we had to buy some bottles to take home, and they do waive the tasting fees if you meet the limit. Our wine tasting experience with Eva was the best. She REALLY took care of us. If you do visit Far Niente, you GOTTA ask for Eva. I only wish we lived close enough, we would love to be club members of Far Niente. Till next time, I guess. read more

I will always have an eternal love affair with Far Niente. When I look back on my time living in San Francisco, I will not forget the times I have celebrated with a bottle of Far Niente. This is hands down the most gorgeous vineyard in Napa. Everywhere you look is absolutely picturesque. I don't think anyone has ever had a bad time visiting. Depending on your tour and time of year, you can expect visits down to the caves, tastes of vintages you can't find elsewhere, sneak peaks into the wine making process, and astonishing views of the yellow fall leaves. I recently visited Far Niente winery , and was amazed at the serene beauty of the landscape. The drive into the winery is very picturesque , with their Ginko trees lining both sides of the road. I observed numerous tourists. taking photos of the trees , with the leaves turning a golden like color. I asked the security officer , if my friends could visit inside, and was informed that reservations are required for their wine tasting picnic venues. I asked if my friend could purchase their wines, and Sara knew a favorite vintage from their on line wines catalog and we were allowed inside. The hostess was very helpful , and we were pleased to receive assistance in our selections. The grounds inside are kept up , with many flowers , along the ponds which make this , our next choice for a wine tasting outing. This historic 200 year old winery with the Main Grand House , and barn , which house various vintage automobiles, collected earlier by owners Gil and Beth.. The driveway grounds can be entered now by walking only, for picture taking. by the many tourists that arrive from all over the world. I was informed by the friendly security officer , that this permission to enter the driveway grounds now has just been accepted by the Far Niente winery to promote Napa Valley , as a World class tourist destination. read more

Far Niente is gorgeous winery with intimate tours away from the crowds. Lisa was our private tour guide on a sunny afternoon and she was fantastic. Far Niente Estate: The winery was built in 1845 by John Benson, shut down in 1919 due to prohibition and then purchased and restored by Gil Nickel in 1979 so there's some amazing history at the estate. You can feel the elegant history of the winery as soon as you enter. The surrounding gardens greet you immediately, are beautiful and well kept. The storage caves seemed to go on for eternity lined with wine barrels. They were fascinating to see and explore through. The gigantic private garage housed the impressive car collection of the estate. There were so many visuals throughout the tour for endless social media moments. I went with the 2016 EnRoute Pinoit Noir as my souvenir back to Las Vegas. Far Niente is a definite must visit during your Napa visits and I hope you're lucky enough to have Lisa as your guide.
