What really set this tasting apart was how clearly the winemaking process is explained. Michael broke down the "why" behind the wines from the farming, barreling, and precision, in a way that makes you truly appreciate justified quality and process, not just branding or scarcity. This place has been on my bucket list for quite a while, and I finally had the opportunity to visit. We did not do the cave tour and tasting, but we did do a guided private winetasting in the main house. What a outstanding experience! We sat in a private room that overlooked Oakville from up high, and you can't beat that view. Worth the time and stop. My wife and I were visiting the wine country for a few days and had so looked forward to our tour and tasting. We'd been fans of the label for years but had never visited. We were warmly greeted by Cynthia and a nice glass of their 2024 Chardonnay to start the day. Aidan then arrived to spend the rest of the tour with us and we are grateful that he did. He did a wonderful job in giving us a history of the facilities and then guided us on our tasting. It was a wonderful experience and Aidan also did a great job navigating our purchaser of wines and helped to arrange shipping. I wish I could give this place a negative star, which is my first time doing that on Yelp. This is the first winery ever in my life with a security guard. We were planning to come in and join the wine club based on what we heard, but they would not allow you in without a reservation. Well, fine then. We wanted to take photos from outside the property entrance and leave. The security guard was strict and a terrible guy with a lot of bad words I want to use. We took a photo but her purposely blocked the path. This is a bald older guy. If a place wants to be this exclusive, why advertise it publicly on social media? I feel like Far Niente is lying for this kind of stance on visitors and hiring an "A" security guard. read more

It has been our group favorite by far!!!! Holly the chef is an absolute genius. I can not expressed how delicious everything was. Reed our guide was so personable/friendly/amazing. Where to start? For our annual birthdays trip, Yolie said she wanted to come here because it is her favorite chardonnay, so she booked us a tasting. We drove up, the woman at the parking lot said to park, and when we checked in with her, she gave us a 2 oz pour of wine to welcome us. There was a large tasting going on at one end, and what looked like a small tasting in a corner. We waited for Dimitri in the comfy sofas near the spiral staircase. He came out and introduced himself and gave us a little history of the building and winery. He then stated we were going to be doing our tasting in one of the offices, which are set up as small tasting rooms. It makes it more intimate and quiet, as there was a larger tasting outside the door. The set ups are really nice! Dimitri is a wealth of information of all things wine! We had a really great experience learning about the different vintages. I would have to say that my favorite was the Bella Union Cabernet....soooooo good! The other was the Far Niente 2018 Cabernet which was good too but much bolder than I prefer. The chardannay was amazing! Unlike other chardannays I've had elsewhere. The Dolce was really good as well, though on the sweet side. We loved how Dimitri explain the process of each wine we tasted. It was a wonderful experience! The drive up can only be described as magical! I'm sad I missed coming up here when the leaves change color. We plan to come back next year and visit their other properties as well! One of my faves when I went to Napa. Reserved a tasting and tour in advance and it was so worth it! Had our own room for the tasting and the tour was really cool. You get to go underground in the caves. Really fun! They also have a classic car collection that you can see through the garage door (super dope) but they no longer let people in because of course one person ruined it for everyone and spilled wine on one of them. Our tour guide was very informative AND funny which was a plus! It's a beautiful property as well. Spend some time by the pool/bar as well as the lake. It's beautiful! The wine was amazing! My fave was the merlot we tried and I normally don't like Merlot. They paired them all with a specific wine and cheese which were all good and got to see what the wine tasted like before and after the pairing. They also give military a discount (half off) which is an amazing deal for what you receive. I would definitely go here again! read more

I really enjoy Far Niente's chardonnay, and I recently got to visit the winery for the first time for a tour and tasting. I drove through beautiful gardens and canopy trees to make my way to the parking lot. At the parking lot I was able to check-in for my tasting and given a taste of white wine. I learned that arriving a bit early for your tasting allows you some time to walk around the grounds before your tasting begins. The owners made their money through the garden/nursery business, so the beauty and charm of the winery is by design. There is a bit of walking from the parking lot up to the tasting room. I did see golf carts zipping around, so if you have mobility issues, I'm sure they can accommodate you in getting around. I signed up for a group tasting, but was the only one during that time. It was probably just because it wasn't peak season and also midweek. Perhaps being the only one lead to my host being a bit cringy, but at times chatting with him was uncomfortable. The tour of the caves was really interesting. At the end of the tasting, I was left alone in a room, which I found kind of odd. I have a tendency to get lost, so not walking me back to the front seemed a little silly and also felt like a missed opportunity to get me to buy some wine. I did end up purchasing a couple bottles, but it was just so awkward to find my own way back and then navigate how to checkout. I still love their wine. I just wish the tasting experience was as amazing as the gardens and grounds. read more

Far Niente was our last stop of our second day of wine tasting in Napa Valley. I was honestly tired and wanted to get this last tasting over with, as we've already done 3 tastings and I was all wined out. As we approached the closed gate with our rental car, the gate slowly opened, and we drove inside. Everything about this place was so enchanting. You HAVE to see it. The Far Niente estate is easily one of the most beautiful estates in Napa Valley. It felt like I had stepped into a fairy-tale. We checked in with one of the staff members who had us wait a short while before our wine specialist, Eva came to get us and showed us to our table. Even though, we were probably her last group for the day, she was so hospitable and did not rush us at all. She started off by giving us some historical facts of the winery, talking to us about the wines, and getting a feel of the kind of wines my husband and I liked. Eva is so knowledgeable and awesome. You can just tell how passionate she is about wines! I know I said I was all wined out, but the wines here are just wonderful, and how could I resist drinking these wines! Not to mention, Eva had curated our wine tasting according to what we liked and was now giving us additional wines from Nickel and Nickel, and EnRoute to try. Obviously, we had to buy some bottles to take home, and they do waive the tasting fees if you meet the limit. Our wine tasting experience with Eva was the best. She REALLY took care of us. I will always have an eternal love affair with Far Niente. When I look back on my time living in San Francisco, I will not forget the times I have celebrated with a bottle of Far Niente. This is hands down the most gorgeous vineyard in Napa. Everywhere you look is absolutely picturesque. I don't think anyone has ever had a bad time visiting. Depending on your tour and time of year, you can expect visits down to the caves, tastes of vintages you can't find elsewhere, sneak peaks into the wine making process, and astonishing views of the yellow fall leaves. I recently visited Far Niente winery , and was amazed at the serene beauty of the landscape. The drive into the winery is very picturesque , with their Ginko trees lining both sides of the road. I observed numerous tourists. taking photos of the trees , with the leaves turning a golden like color. I asked the security officer , if my friends could visit inside, and was informed that reservations are required for their wine tasting picnic venues. I asked if my friend could purchase their wines, and Sara knew a favorite vintage from their on line wines catalog and we were allowed inside. The hostess was very helpful , and we were pleased to receive assistance in our selections. The grounds inside are kept up , with many flowers , along the ponds which make this , our next choice for a wine tasting outing. This historic 200 year old winery with the Main Grand House , and barn , which house various vintage automobiles, collected earlier by owners Gil and Beth.. The driveway grounds can be entered now by walking only, for picture taking. by the many tourists that arrive from all over the world. I was informed by the friendly security officer , that this permission to enter the driveway grounds now has just been accepted by the Far Niente winery to promote Napa Valley , as a World class tourist destination. read more

Far Niente is gorgeous winery with intimate tours away from the crowds. Lisa was our private tour guide on a sunny afternoon and she was fantastic. Far Niente Estate: The winery was built in 1845 by John Benson, shut down in 1919 due to prohibition and then purchased and restored by Gil Nickel in 1979 so there's some amazing history at the estate. You can feel the elegant history of the winery as soon as you enter. The surrounding gardens greet you immediately, are beautiful and well kept. The storage caves seemed to go on for eternity lined with wine barrels. They were fascinating to see and explore through. The gigantic private garage housed the impressive car collection of the estate. There were so many visuals throughout the tour for endless social media moments. I went with the 2016 EnRoute Pinoit Noir as my souvenir back to Las Vegas. Far Niente is a definite must visit during your Napa visits and I hope you're lucky enough to have Lisa as your guide. I was really looking forward to Far Niente but left greatly disappointed. I'm giving it 2 stars because the place was just beautiful. If you're looking for a picturesque place for the pictures, this place is it. My experience to why I left disappointed... Upon arrival, my friends and I were ushered into a room with a beautiful view of the vineyard. We were also given a tasting menu with "happy birthday" at the top, which was a very nice touch. Halfway through our tasting, we were told "no rush but I do have a group right after you". I was surprised and I checked the clock, it was only about 35 mins in. I asked "a party in this room?" because I was confused to why he mentioned it. He said no and left. We decided to take a couple group selfies since our tasting experience was almost at the end. Not even 15 mins after we were told "no rush", the receptionist came in and told us that we needed to go. We ended up talking to the manager. He was very nice and apologetic. He asked us to come back to visit one more time but I don't think I'll ever be back and I definitely won't recommend this place to anyone. read more
