Another top winery in the Napa region. Don't miss this one if you have a taste for the finer things. My personal tour host met me as I pulled in the gated entrance. As we walked through the entrance we stopped at a lookout view of the rolling hills and we toasted to a glass of Dom Pérignon champagne. My guide was very kind and had a good knowledge of the brand. During the walkthrough we stopped at the place where the wine was aging in the barrels and there were two glasses in the middle of the room sitting on a large sculpted boulder. We got to taste the wine straight from the large barrels. Never done that before. It was excellent! Then we went to a separate room for the actual tasting along with some bites of Parmigiano Reggiano. Wonderful tour guide and amazing experience.

Visited Promontory for a 10am experience with David. They offer introductory level wines to the Harlan Estate portfolio showcasing both Promontory & Penultimate varietals. The grounds are beautiful with breathtaking views at every corner. They not only think through their wines but also how they showcase each stage of their process. We were welcomed with a glass of Dom Perignon Champagne before being shown the wine cellar, barrel house, and private tasting room. David hand picked what wines we tasted. We experienced a barrel sample of a 2023 then later tasted a 2012 Penultimate and 2017 Promontory Library Vintage. If you are seeking to experience some of the best wines in the Napa Region, Promontory is one of the best options.

Our visit to Promontory was an absolute joy. The estate is a true gift of nature, defined by three distinct terroirs that make their wines show the Harlan DNA but with its distinct personality. Every detail was well executed, from the expertise of our host to the beautiful presentation of the tasting. Our host seemed to be knowledgeable with all facets of the winery. The hospitality here is truly personal. The 2023 vintage is already showing incredible promise, and I look forward to its release.

My husband arranged for a tasting for us while we were in Napa for my birthday weekend. Our appointment was on a Saturday afternoon at 1 pm and included a tour of the facilities as well as a tasting. The space was absolutely stunning and incredibly sleek. The wine cellar was kind of haunting and mysterious and lovely and we were able to taste a wine straight from the cask which was pretty cool. The whole experience last around 2 hours and was a highlight of the weekend!

Wow. An amazing experience. Ryanna did a great job welcoming me to Promontory. I enjoyed the tour, the wine and the grounds were beautiful. I would definitely go back. It is more costly than most places so would have expected a couple more tastings, but still fantastic all around.

If you get an opportunity to go, don't hesitate. I took a 10 am tasting (good thing is; it is 5 pm somewhere) Service is top notch Our host is the most knowledgeable compared to most high end wineries The experience is amazing

Favorite winery of the ones I went to this trip. Jonathan was an excellent leader in the tour. Got to try the 2011, 2015, 2018, and 2022. Absolutely loved their 2018 Promontory, and ended up joining the Founders Club. The winery is very different from the commercialized venues we went to. It felt exclusive, fun, and special. Absolutely stunning and worth a visit.

Promontory winery is part of Harlan Estate, another beautiful example of top quality wine produced in Napa Valley. I always enjoy bringing friends here that enjoy life, nature, exploring to see something entirely different than Typical wineries on the valley floor. There are excellent wineries of course in the valley but maybe just a few exceptional properties that make one say, Wow. Like Opus for example. So Bill Harlan did his research way back when and spent time in France learning about what qualities were necessary to produce Grand Cru first growth wine. He determined his winery should be at altitude on a hillside to produce his best wine. Both Harlan Estate and Promontory and Bond achieve this goal and the results are stellar. Promontory is consistently a top scoring wine and a visit to the winery gives you a chance to explore and taste and buy. If you're a club member the tasting fee is waived. This is not an insignificant thing--understand the bottles of Promontory start about $900 + so tasting will cost you. However if you go and buy you probably get some consideration on the fee. The tasting includes, the tour which is fun and filled with stories about the building of the winery. You'll start with a glass of Dom and head off to the tour of the property properly in a good mood. The wine tasting is just you and your party. This isn't the standard winery where buses are lined up with eager folks looking to get buzzed. Nope just you. In addition to tasting Promontory you'll taste Penultimate. Same grapes as what becomes Promontory but younger-- 15 years or less. We had the 2013 today. 11 years old. Beautiful wine and opened up nicely during the time we spent enjoying the tasting. The newer Years are roughly $400 a bottle -- a little time in the bottle age wise will make these super amazing in years to come. Just a note -- our host, Jessica is about the best there is-- energetic, enthusiastic, knowledgeable. Say hi when you go. You will not be disappointed.

We had an amazing time at Dawn Patrol 2023. 7am tasting was a bit daunting but we couldn't pass up for the event. The staff was amazing, friendly, knowledgeable and the view was unbeatable. We were in awe of the view. Air was fresh. Seeing the property at sunrise was a real treat. mascot 2017 was lovely and i wonder how the 2019 would be if we aged it. It was a real treat to participate in the event this year. Recommend for anyone for future availability!!

I worked six harvests in Napa , living in the hills above the property, and watched with curiosity as the wall and huge steel gate were erected. Work went on invisibly behind the "curtain" for years, and news leaked that the Harlan empire was expanding to this new winery with its dedicated vineyard. So finally setup a tasting for my wife's birthday here - knowing this was sure to be a special experience. Note appointments are required and there is a significant tasting fee - but justified given the experience- and it is credited against purchases. Our host Ashley is working on her Master Sommelier accreditation, and was a charming and knowledgeable host. You are greeted at the gate and escorted into an expansive entry, poured Dom Perignon - 2010 for us - and treated to spectacular views across the rugged terrain at the foot of the Mayacamas. Take time to appreciate the bas-relief sculpture of the hillside that shows each of the Harlan properties - Bond, Harlan and Promontory. Makes it easy to visualize snd appreciate the vision and process in producing these world class wines. The unique "waterfall" adds an acoustic calm to the birds singing in the background. The property is stunning. We were taken on a full tour of the winery and cellar- harvest was just underway - and tasting of some wines "in progress " from tank. The final stop was a private tasting room (see pics) with views across the ridge line snd tasting of current release and back vintage Promontory wines. After Ashley guided us through the tasting menu, we were left to enjoy the wines, sit inside or out on the patio, and the breadsticks and Vos water. This is a special spot to taste and appreciate terrific wines that most are unlikely to drink regularly. Highly recommended.

Tasting of 2008 Promontory and 2014 Penultimate
    Michael Y.

Spectacular experience, with amazing views, a mystical tour, and great service from your personal tour guide. Promontory is a cult wine, meaning they have superfans, the wine is extremely limited and hard to buy in retail, and there is a mysterious aura about the place and the wine that makes it inexplicably special. The estate itself is like a Japanese-themed Batman lair. Super dark, sleek, but antique in certain areas, and hyper-tech in others. Think about dark wood, gigantic sliding doors, stage lights, concrete floors, deafening silence and long echoes -- you feel like you're in a movie the entire time. The entrance area provides an amazing view of the vineyards owned by the Harlan family, from the Mascot vineyard all the way to some Harlan Estate ones, and then the Promontory microclimate region is tucked in, surrounded by a bunch of mountains. You learn that the soils of promontory are special, because it is the only vineyard to have multiple types of volcanic rock. As for the 2008 Promontory, here are my notes: "This shouldn't be wine, it's not possible. You dip your nose and you realize it's more of a candle than liquid...wow! Strong floral notes (rare), lots of red and black fruits, tobacco, eucalyptus, minerals...you could go on forever. The tannins are ridiculous. Not only does the immense flavor last for minutes (like 30 minutes!), but the tannins linger forever. Your tongue will be changed for the next few hours, with the slightly thick, millions of sticky tannin textures that coat your mouth." And for the 2014 Penultimate: "It's not better than Promontory, but it's still really good. The nose is slightly less, but still that seductive, candle-like thickness on the nose. So many aromas, from your typical red and dark fruits to oak, minerals, some rose notes. The tannins are quite different though, where Penultimate has softer tannins, and doesn't linger as long. I think this is sort of a step into the Promontory world, before you take on the final boss." I came in not knowing what to expect from Promontory, but I am blown away. I am a superfan.

One of the most beautiful wineries I have been too! If you are able to do a tasting and visit , DO IT!!!! The wine is prestige , best of the best! Views are picturesque and serene ! Once you visit these nice wineries it's hard to compare to any others .

I am a white wine connoisseur because of my dietary restrictions with most ingredients in red wines, especially cherries and plum, that trigger my stomach pain and headaches. I have missed enjoying red wine because of this. I was hoping and praying that when my friends who are members of PEJU planned this wine tasting treat, that my stomach and head would be fine and to my surprise, my palate, tongue, stomach and heart were pleased with the Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Fifty/Fifty, and more, including reserve reds Todd served and educated us about! I have NEVER enjoyed red wines like these I tasted at PEJU. Since the time of our outstanding wine tasting experience, I have recommended and raved about Todd and PEJU winery to friends and family who appreciate and value high quality wines and winery experiences. It felt like a vacation getaway being in the tasting room building, admiring the breathtaking stained glass art, all of the art inside and the beautiful art and nature views outside. I appreciate the PEJU staff and management team who welcomed us and were kind to us all the way to the end of our wine tasting experience when we left. This is the kind of treatment that makes us want to return. Napa is a special place for friends, family, and me, and PEJU is now an indelible memory in my Napa adventures! I tried quite a few different wines, and really liked how there are a few unique offerings here that you can't find elsewhere - I ended up getting a bottle of their Province, the Farm, and their late harvest orange muscat. PEJU is also one of the few wineries with a permit to serve food. If I had known ahead of time, I would've planned to eat here! The rilettes were super tempting, but Joseph advised that if I was planning to eat a meal afterward to stick to the chips and dip - this ended up being quite a generous portion as well, and I really enjoyed the goat cheese truffle dip alongside the wine tasting :) Overall, PEJU is definitely a beautiful winery to visit with excellent service, and I'll definitely be back!

There's a smallish tasting bar inside, but the patio area is nestled amongst their lovely vineyards. The photo opportunities are endless, and Antoine was nice enough to snap some photos of us during our visit. When it comes to the wines, I definitely enjoyed their white wines more than their reds. I loved their Gewurtztraminer and their Sauvignon Blanc was tasty too. The red wines that we tasted were just okay. Even their $150 Cab Sauv tasted a bit young, but just my personal opinion.
