This was the 11th and last winery visited, maybe we were saving the best for last, but in reality our initial plan was to stay 3 days in Napa and then drive to Yosemite, but my wine friend Christopher insisted that we really have to visit this winery and he set us here for a private tasting and tour. So my girlfriend and I extended our stay an extra day to be able to make it. The drive to get here is about 30 minutes from the center of Napa, GPS and written directions are a bit confusing but we made it without problem. Along the way there are nice views of a lake, hills and valleys, the drive was fun despite we were rushing to make it on time. When we arrived our names were handwritten in a black "welcome" board, I thought this was neat. We were the very first visitor of 2018. Here is no need for check in, or protocols, it's so private that you are alone in the whole winery, Kaitlin Balek showed us the entire winery and explained about their history, wine philosophy, etc. We talked about the wildfires, the past and future of Napa and everything in between. The whole thing very classic. Then we sat at the tasting room with a nice setup of glasses and the wine was served. Current releases of OVID Red and Hexameter, I have both bottles in my cellar but never tasted an Ovid juice before. I must say that I liked them both, in particular the OVID Red, but I was not so impressed as I expected, I think it's because the youth of the wine and the few minutes the bottles has being opened. I know their productions are so small and their wine so exclusive that you cannot pour large quantities neither to host so many guesses, but I would set aside a small portion in a little decanter 30-60 minutes before the arrival of the guess, plus the 30+ minutes talking and walking around the estate it will be enough aeration so the wine should be really opened (or about to) when the sampling takes place. This wine fully open with the amazing views, will be like a short visit to heaven on earth! Here are my ratings to all visited wineries in alphabetical order, for details on each one look for my reviews: Services - Wine - Overall Alpha Omega 5 5 5 Darioush 5 5 5 Duckhorn 1 3 2 Hendry Vineyard 5 4 4 Joseph Phelps 5 5 5+ Merryvale 5 4 5 Merus 5 5 5+ Ovid 5 5 5 Paraduxx 4 3 4 Rombauer 5 4 5+ Silver Oak 5 4 5 For a winery that has being in business since 2005, with neighbors like Chappellet, Colgin, Bryant Family and Dalla Valle, a talented winemaker and a solid team behind the project I see nothing else but a bright (and very expensive) future!

Visiting Ovid Winery is an experience to remember. The drive up is beautiful and our host met us at the door. We were welcomed inside and treated to a gorgeous view of the Napa Valley. After taking it all in, we tasted some of the finest wines in the valley. And it seemed that as we sipped, the wines just kept getting better. The experience was relaxing, educational and fun! This winery will go at the top of my list of exceptional hospitality. Thank you Ovid!

fantastic view at 1400 feet.

If you can get in, get in. If the per person charge is too much, as someone complained in another review, this place is not for you. The inexpensive stuff is in excess of $300 a bottle, which is my top top end for a bottle of wine, and that would be for a special occasion. Very private as they allow only one group in at a time and it makes for a very intimate experience. Jessica hosted the 4 of us and she was fantastic. We visited 9 wineries in total and this was the best overall. Unbelievable wine, great experience, great view. Thank you Jessica!!

One of the best bordeaux style blend in Napa if you can get your hands on it. In order to taste their wines at the winery, you have to be on the mailing list or know someone who is on the mailing list. Love love love their annual party in May each year!

Go across the bridge and hook a left to the property/tasting room. Lori greeted us upon arrival was fantastic during our entire visit (we even brought our two kids). We were able to see how they bottled and packaged Chardonnay, met one of the wine makers, and then was led to a small tasting room (it was an AM tasting so it was still a little chilly out). Lori basically let us taste anything we wanted in their portfolio, giving us details and explanation of all of the wine lingo that growers and makers refer to. It was definitely an educational and fun tasting experience. Ended up leaving with 4 bottles (chardonnay, 2 pinots, cabernet sauv) and are now wine members. Besides Lori being a great host and the wines tasting awesome, the price point was far below what other wineries in Napa charge for these highly rated wines.

That being said, I never do tours, so this is based on my experiences with strictly tastings only. The property is a bit off the beaten path and you will likely lose cell service. However, the drive is beautiful and not incredibly far. Neyers is more of a boutique winery so do not expect the fantastic architecture you encounter at nearly Napa properties. The tastings are cheaper than they probably should be for the experience you get and the quality of the wines. Like most places, a tasting fee is waived with a bottle purchase. Reservations are required as tastings are done one group at a time. We tasted maybe eight different wines, some of them side by side so we could compare different grapes and styles. Our host was very informative and knowledgeable, teaching us more than any other winery I've encountered. We loved almost all of the wines and walked away with six bottles and a wine club membership in our group. I would highly recommend Neyers as a less pretentious and expensive winery but with equally fantastic (if not better) wines and a superb tasting experience.

The only thing I am not real fond of is this steep tasting price of many of the vineyards, its seems like it is gauging the customer. But then again, it is my opinion. This was the only winery we insisted on sharing with the other two couples in our party. Laurel was our server and how awesome she was. I believe she may even be the front manager. The pours were very healthy! She quickly picked up on the tone of our party and jumped right in with a great sense of humor. She could hold her own! :) The wine, amazing. Do try the Moscato. It's not what you think, I promise. We bought a bottle after the tasting and walked down to the beautiful terrace with pizza ovens to enjoy the scenery. Laurel didn't push the wine club at all. We still bought a whole case and I'm still considering the club. It's reasonably priced. If you enjoy an occasional port, this one is for you! We had to include two bottles in our case.

After more than three years as club members, I'm embarrassed it took me this long to leave a…read morereview. Frog's Leap is simply our favorite winery in Napa Valley, and the reasons run deeper than the wine itself. In a valley increasingly dominated by cabernet sauvignon monoculture, John and Rory Williams have stayed true to a different philosophy -- growing and making wines that reflect genuine passion rather than market trends. They are also committed to responsible farming practices like organic, dry farming that are not only good for the land, but result in wines that have a sense of place. That commitment shows in every bottle. Not every varietal will suit every palate (I haven't quite gotten behind Charbono yet - sorry Rory!), but each one is exceptionally well-crafted and represents remarkable value, especially against the Napa marketplace. The wines are site-driven, elegant and balanced, not just over-oaked fruit bombs. The property is gorgeous, the tasting room staff are consistently warm and accommodating, and the winery is genuinely family-friendly -- something that matters to us greatly, as we often visit with our son. It's important to belong to a place that makes you feel welcomed, and not some of the sterile, hoity-toity atmosphere of many wineries these days. The club events and regular pickup party are highlights our whole family looks forward to when they come around. We have many great memories there like getting to help sort grapes in the 2023 vintage, cookie decorating around Christmas timeThere's also something special about seeing John and Rory at those events, hearing directly from them about their philosophy and how the current vintage is unfolding. That personal connection to the people behind the wine is rare and deeply appreciated. If you're looking for a winery that leads with integrity and craft over trend-chasing, Frog's Leap deserves your visit.
