Neyers Vineyard... simply a hidden gem tucked away in the hills of St. Helena. Directions: Silverado Trail to 128, stay on 128 for 4 miles, pass up Hennessey Lake, as soon as the road splits, stay on 128 for one mile and you'll see a stone sign saying "Neyers Vineyard". Go across the bridge and hook a left to the property/tasting room. Lori greeted us upon arrival was fantastic during our entire visit (we even brought our two kids). We were able to see how they bottled and packaged Chardonnay, met one of the wine makers, and then was led to a small tasting room (it was an AM tasting so it was still a little chilly out). Lori basically let us taste anything we wanted in their portfolio, giving us details and explanation of all of the wine lingo that growers and makers refer to. It was definitely an educational and fun tasting experience. Ended up leaving with 4 bottles (chardonnay, 2 pinots, cabernet sauv) and are now wine members. Besides Lori being a great host and the wines tasting awesome, the price point was far below what other wineries in Napa charge for these highly rated wines. read more

I've been to Napa many times and previously worked in the wine industry. This was in my top two favorite winery experiences. That being said, I never do tours, so this is based on my experiences with strictly tastings only. The property is a bit off the beaten path and you will likely lose cell service. However, the drive is beautiful and not incredibly far. Neyers is more of a boutique winery so do not expect the fantastic architecture you encounter at nearly Napa properties. The tastings are cheaper than they probably should be for the experience you get and the quality of the wines. Like most places, a tasting fee is waived with a bottle purchase. Reservations are required as tastings are done one group at a time. We tasted maybe eight different wines, some of them side by side so we could compare different grapes and styles. Our host was very informative and knowledgeable, teaching us more than any other winery I've encountered. We loved almost all of the wines and walked away with six bottles and a wine club membership in our group. I would highly recommend Neyers as a less pretentious and expensive winery but with equally fantastic (if not better) wines and a superb tasting experience. read more

Our first visit to Neyers (largely based on yelp reviews and some great Wine Spectator reviews - I try not to be a Wine Spectator zombie though). We arrived and were treated with one of the best tastings that we have ever had. Their Chardonnays were amazing (we normally aren't huge Chardonnay fans), their Rhone blends were great, the Noirs were exciting, and their Bordeaux blends - we left with a few!. Be warned, Neyers is a great winery and the experience is great if you know what you're doing. If you understand wine/winemaking/wine regions, you will enjoy it. However, if you are a novice/beginner, you may be left wanting more...I'll explain. At Neyers, there is no tour - you don't walk around to look at the vineyard or tour the caves. Their visit is strictly for the wine - which is great. Our tastings were done side-by-side, which was great, you can easily compare/contrast the wines with similar blends or offerings. You will not get any bites or cheese or anything, just wine. Again, if you want a boutique style winery and you love wine (and are knowledgeable about it), go to Neyers. If you're not the above things, still feel free to go - just try not to complain that it was "boring" or "didn't even include a tour". The tasting fees aren't bad - I think $35/person. They were waived "with a bottle purchase". I did not ask how many bottles or if it was a dollar spend. We purchased three bottles and did not pay a tasting fee. This vineyatd makes phenomenal wines, small production, i live in NYC so their wines are expensive and hard to find. I visited the vineyard, had a fantastic tour, somehow we were able to taste the cabernet sauvignon AME Neyers ranch. I will say that it is a high price wine but you know what they say, you are paying for quality. The craft behind the production of this wine is very unique, the site where the grapes grow has been certified organic since 2009. The name of the wine AME (soul in french). There are other less priced options but AME is the one you should try, i love their Carneros ranch Chardonnay, great value. Please call ahead and be sure to verify your party. The staff is engaging and they really want to make sure you understand their wine making process as the tour offers an extensive amount of information for everyone to enjoy. read more

This winery is off the beaten path. To look for it, you have to go towards lake berryessa. Beautiful property! The grounds are picturesque and tranquil. The wine...pretty darn good. Meet the owner Bruce Neyers and the wine maker Tadayoo, really down to earth guys. Willing to answer all your questions. They make some good wine . Neyers is far from the Napa Valley floor of over-run wineries. This winery requires a reservation; the reservations can be difficult to get but it is worth it. You will get a tour of their facilities and sample their high quality wines. The offering is three Chardonnays, three Syrahs, two Zinfandels, two Cabernet Sauvignons and one Merlot. Don't be surprised if they do not have each variatal available for sampling or buying. The facilities are down to earth and the winery doesn't have a gift shop. It is a simple tasting room. The only thing I would recommend is that they have some music. Recommend this winery for your next visit to Napa! read more

Great little hidden gem in the hills above the Silverado Trail. The scenery is gorgeous and the tasting is private so you can enjoy it without tons of other people! The wines are a little steep but great tasting. Call ahead for an appt as they only take one group at a time. The hostess is enjoyable, knowledgeable and friendly! Looking at the map, it may seem like a drive, however its only 10 min off the Trail and definitely worth it if you want a unique experience that isn't tourist driven! Our group of three walked away with three bottles and couldn't be happier! read more

I would say 4.5 stars to get 5 stars I have to love every wine I try, which I almost did, the chardonnay, pinot and cab were great but I couldn't say the same for the Zin (it was good but not great) I loved the quaint little tasting room which lends itself to a intimate tasting experience. Phoebe was a great hostess, very friendly and knowledgable. I enjoyed seeing the jars of soil and talking wine with her. Wow. Such a cool spot. Tastings are done by reservation, but on an individual basis, so you really get to spend some time there. The wines are fabulous and Tiffany was a blast. Tastings are refundable with purchase which make it a screaming deal. Make a day of it and do a lot of the Sage Canyon wineries (all by appt.)--Chappellet, Neyers, Gandona and Midsummer! Several in our group (including myself) were COMPLETELY new to wine and wine tasting, and Lori gave us the PERFECT introduction. The selection she chose for us was such an excellent example of different tastes and varieties that even the complete novices in the group could identify the differences. She was incredibly informative without being even the least bit condescending. She also gave us such fantastic context for each bottle that every glass really made us feel connected to the experience. She didn't make an overt or aggressive sales pitch, and I went in thinking there would be no point in buying anything to take home (I really cannot stress how little we know about wine) yet we ended up buying a bottle of the Sage Canyon anyway. The icing on the cake was the gorgeous outdoor tasting environment, and the warm and informal greeting we received from one of the owners. All I can say is I hope the rest of our adventures in Napa live up to Neyers! read more

Neyers is a great experience and definitely seperates itself from the rest. It does require a reservation, but we didn't have a difficult time getting one. There is a quick tour of their facility and then you get to enjoy their wine. We were given the tour & tasting by Barbara Neyers and she did an excellent job. The wine was fantastic and Barbara was a great guide. Couldn't say enough about this place. read more

Neyers Vineyard was a great experience. We scheduled the required appointment and lucked out by being there when the bottling truck was there to bottle the Sage Canyon Red. Krista was a great hostess and knowledgeable about the wines and property. We bumped into Tadeo Borchardt, the winemaker, while we were touring the production area. He was very gracious and chatted with our group for about 15 minutes, giving us additional information on the Neyers approach to wine. We also met Barbara Neyers, who was also very gracious and welcoming. We bought several bottles, including their mourvedre and carignan from the Evangelho Vineyard, and look forward to enjoying the Roberts Road pinot noir when it arrives. Top flight wines which are not widely distributed in a family winery setting up in the hills above the Silverado Trail. The wines are a great value as well. read more
