BIRTHDAY FIRST WINERY VISIT…read more The first time I went for a wine tasting menu was four years ago with a group of hip hop dancers. We visited two wineries in Sonoma. Four years later my sister and her husband organized two wine tasting menus at two wineries in Napa for my birthday. There was a group of relatives that went we us. I am the oldest of all the group as I turned 50. Some say I age as good as wine. There is a saying the longer the wine ages the better it is. Well I found that was partly true when I went to this winery. Two weeks ago Saturday the first winery we visited was Vincent Arroyo Family Winery. The host was Ted. He was very insightful during the wine tasting and tour of the winery. The wine tasting menu was unique as each person only had two glasses. I didn't know how many types of wine we would drink as there's no tasting menu. The first glass we had was a Chardonnay. It was crisp and clean. The second glass was the Sangiovese. It had a smooth taste. I mentioned about the two glasses. Ted stated if you don't like the wine dump it in the grey bucket. I enjoyed my first two glasses of wine. After each glass I put the last drops of each wine in the grey bucket. The third glass was the Zinfandel. The fourth glass was Tempranillo, which is a wine well known in Spain. Ted provided an insight of this wine as it is not well known in Napa, but the Tempranillo is produced here as a tribute to the Spanish heritage of the family of this winery. This wine has a light taste that doesn't mask the flavor of the food you eat. What I enjoyed about Ted is his insights. I mentioned about the longer the wine ages the better. Ted stated if you buy a bottle of wine it has a limit of ten years before the wine goes bad. He explained the reason why Cabernet Sauvignon is popular in Napa because land is expensive you need a wine that helps pay off the land. He provided a tour of the winery where he showed the process of harvesting the grapes, distilling the alcohol, and aging of the wine in the French oak barrels. After the tour we when back to the wine tasting room to taste two types of Cabernet Sauvignon - one darker color with the other clearer color. After tasting the two Cabernet Sauvignons I tasted the Petite Syrah from the Rattlesnake Acres of the winery. Of all the wines I tasted the Petite Syrah was my favorite. Petite Syrah is the wine this winery is known for. I got the Petite Syrah Rattlesnake Acres bottle for my birthday. I mentioned about the Rattlesnake Acres. On that property there are vineyards about 70 years old. So maybe it is not how old the wine is but how old the vineyard that results in a tasty wine. Overall I had eight glasses of wine at Vincent Arroyo Family Winery. I can see myself coming back to this winery again to purchase the Tempranillo and/or Cabernet Sauvignon from the Rattlesnake Acres. The first winery visit of the day was a great way to celebrate my birthday.

The place itself is beautiful and it used to be a hardware store. It's right next to the city hall and across the street from the police station. There is street parking as well as a public parking lot next to the police station. The place is dog friendly and the owner bought out a bowl of water for my baby. This is a beautiful Winery on Howell Mt. just above St. Helena on White Cottage Rd. The tour was excellent and employees are genuinely friendly and knowledgeable. The winery is also an historic building...circa 1877. (The tour included an excellent history of the area and the early wineries in the valley). Go for the 2-hour tour that ends with a tasting in the cave. read more

We were gifted a bottle of their wine and fell in love with it ever since. So when we were invited to go to Napa for an event, we decided we'd try to visit to do a tasting. Well, they get booked pretty far in advance, especially during summer. Kudos to Rachel for trying so hard to get us in for a visit. The hubby reached out to the winery 6-7 weeks before we visited, and the calendar was already booked, and I can see why. Their wine is absolutely THE BEST! We asked Rachel to put us on the waiting list, and she followed up with us every few weeks to let us know the status. Unfortunately, no one had cancelled yet, and our trip was quickly approaching. We were resigned to the fact that we'll have to come back another time. Two days before our visit, I decided to reach out and Rachel said she was just about to email us too; well, there was a cancelation on our desired date and time. Of course, this news was AMAZING to our ears. Upon arrival (steep hills so I would suggest trying to make this your first stop if you can), we entered through a gate, easily parked, and walked in. The property is stunning and the views are something else. Even though we took advantage of this for photo ops, the one thing I appreciated was that it was not busy with influencers. As luck would have it, Rachel was also our host, which she said she does not get to do often, as she is their marketing manager. The knowledge she has about wine, the winery, the family....it was just a lovely visit. I liked that it's a smaller winery, so they only host so many groups in the day. We were there 2-4pm and there were two other groups of 8-10. And I've been to wineries where your host will come by, do the pour and explain the wine to you, and say another 2-3 groups. Not here. Your host is dedicated to YOU for the duration of your tasting. I have nothing but good things to say about their wine, their winery and the staff. We loved it so much we became members! Do yourself a favor and do a winetasting here. It's worth every penny and be careful, bc you will walk off with a few bottles and might even become members like we did. Thank you Rachel and the Amizetta family! FYI - they are constructing a new indoor and outdoor area. Great things are coming to this place and I'm excited for our next visit.

We were here for A Taste of Groth experience and were greeted by Curt who was our host for the tasting. Curt was personable and gave us a history of the Groth, which was founded by the former CFO of Atari, the video game company. For the tasting we were served a Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Proprietary Red and a bonus pour of the Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. All the wines were delicious with my favorites being the Reserve Cabernet for the red and Sauvignon Blace for the white. Curt was informative and explained the background of each wine that was poured. We were invited to take our last pour and enjoy in the garden and winery grounds. We had a great tasting experience in our tasting of the delicious Groth wines. It was enjoyable two hour visit. We now know what is Groth and its history from our great pourer, Curt.

It was so smooth and beautifully balanced that I made a point of visiting the winery while I was working in Napa so I could purchase a case to share with friends at an upcoming celebration. The winery itself is absolutely beautiful, perched on a hillside with stunning views. Unfortunately, the customer service did not match the quality of the wine. When I arrived, I followed the sign instructing guests to wait to be seated. I stood there for about ten minutes while an employee made eye contact with me multiple times and walked past without acknowledging me or even offering a simple "I'll be right with you." Eventually, I walked inside and was greeted with, "Are you here to buy some wine?" The interaction felt dismissive from the start. I explained that I wanted to purchase either six or twelve bottles of Cade. Before I had even decided, I was immediately quoted pricing in a way that made me feel as though it was being assumed I couldn't afford the wine. When I responded that I would take a full case, the tone of the conversation changed completely. Suddenly I was warmly invited to stay for a tasting. I left with the wine because I truly love it, but I also left feeling judged based on my appearance. I had stopped in while working and was wearing jeans, a work polo, tennis shoes, and driving an older work vehicle. Whether intentional or not, the experience made me feel that I wasn't considered the "right" customer until it became clear I was making a significant purchase. Cade produces an outstanding wine, and I sincerely hope every guest is greeted with the same warmth and respect--regardless of how they're dressed or what they're driving. We sat outside on the patio for a private guided tasting, which made the experience feel extra special. We both found Laura to be a…read morefriendly, knowledgeable, and unintrusive host, and we appreciated the low-key, unpretentious feel of the place. The views are spectacular, and although the building is relatively modest in size, we found it quite elegant -- an exceptionally sweet place to spend an hour and a half. And the wines are lovely! All in all a great place to visit, especially if you're curious about this stunning and unique hillside slice of the Napa Valley.

I enjoyed listening to their story of being second and third generation on vineyard and their philosophy on wine production. So Riley helped set me up a tasting when I went out to the area. It's quite the drive up Spring Mountain Road. The road seems a bit on the narrow and you'll see first hand the recent fire damage. Melted guard rails, blackened trees, and a few foundations missing their homes. The winery has a gated access. Following the road up to the tasting room and office building for a fantastic view of the hills covered in vines. Laura lead us through our tasting - 2018 Chardonnay Spring Mountain $40 2017 Merlot Napa Valley $46 2017 Merlot Reserve Mailbox Vineyard $77 2017 Cabernet Franc Spring Mountain $72 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley $60 2017 Mernet Reserve Spring Mountain $110 a unique delicious blend I really enjoyed 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Spring Mountain $117 2017 Zinfandel Napa Valley $42 2017 Syrah Napa Valley $42 my other favorite. Keenan has been solar powered since 2007. They are environmentally pro-active in energy sourcing and their sustainable farming practices. You do need a reservation for a tasting. The tasting is comfortable but not huge. The parking area is small. Laura will probably be your tasting hostess and I hope you get a chance to meet Riley.
