As we made our way through the Silverado trail, we stopped at the beautiful Quintessa Vineyard. This place was elegant, classy and inviting. We were offered waters before starting our tour and he lead us up a few sets of stairs to the special upgraded tasting room. When we got there, it was breathtaking. The view of the endless rows of vines that expanded in all directions was breathless. I was in shock that WE get to taste in this beautiful space with this amazing view. Our tour guide Gregory was so friendly and gave us a memorable experience. Going through each wine and sharing us wonderful stories. We had some snacks to much on to accompany our wines. He was so kind to take photos for us afterwards and shared some special wines with us at the end. All in all, we are so glad we chose to do the upgrade because you don't get to sit in basically is what I would call a modern treehouse and drink so delicious wines! read more

Quintessa was absolutely stunning and beautiful. A sophisticated feel for those who truly know and value extraordinary wine making. The vineyard property is stunning in every direction. Covered with magical oak trees everywhere with a lake highlight in the background. Absolutely stunning place to go visit. The red wine as you could imagine are the best around. Given the price, I suggest only visiting this place if your a serious wine collector or have the appreciation for the big wine on the table kind of mentality. We took a early morning tour and it was inviting and informative. We enjoyed 4 glasses of wine that all were simply perfect 10s.. they served us a small cheese plate with the wine. This is a beautiful winery located on Silverado trail. I had seen it for years as I used to bike the Silverado trail often a few years back. From the moment you pass through the gates you can feel the detail and creativity. Once we checked in, they had our group walk to once of the private tasting rooms at the top of the hill with views of the western side of the vineyard. From there you can appreciate rows and rows of vines, that decide the scenery along with a pond and the hills on the far back group. Our tasting was during mid day, I can just imagine how gorgeous it would look during golden hour looking out to the hills where the sun sets. Great venue, lots of detail, the staff is knowledgeable and takes the time to explain anything, from the wine, to the wine making, the soils from the area. This was a high end elevated wine experience that did not disappoint. The wine. Excellent! You receive the standard 5 different pours from their wine collection along with a small charcuterie plate. The first two pours were from the barrel. The first even though from barrel and technically not matured enough it was really good. Final two tasting were from their top line Quintessa collection and those were yummylicious! Well balanced, with really good notes of chocolate, and oak. Definitely a great experience. This is an average of 90 mins a bit on the pricey end but if you ever feel like testing your self to something different that's unique with really good wine this would be the place. read more

When visiting Quintessa, my husband and I chose the Quintessential Experience which included a private walk of the grounds and intimate guided tasting in their open-air pavilion with breathtaking views. Upon arrival, Hector greeted us before ascending to the tasting pavilion. As we walked, he told us the stories on how Quintessa bought the land and stories of the previous owners. I recommend wearing comfortable shoes for this experience as there were stairs. Once we made it to the pavilion, we started our tasting with their Illumination Sauvignon Blanc before sampling four of their red wines. We also were given a charcuterie sampling of all local items. Once back to the main building, we were given a final red wine tasting. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Quintessa and Hector! We learned so much about the winery, their process, and enjoyed quite a few tastings overlooking gorgeous views of the vineyard, reservoir, and mountain sides. Highly recommend visiting Quintessa but also could not have better things to say about the Quintessential Experience specifically. read more

It's quite overdue for the review but I kept missing this vineyard. I was honored to get to experience Quintessa as my first official wine tastings. I have been getting into wine for quite sometime but didn't really go into tastings until my boyfriend took me to this vinyard. I must say it's so chic, breathtaking view, got settled quite quickly. We booked the Quintessential experience and it was amazing. I learned a lot from them and to be honest, I fell in love with their Merlot. It's hard to find that taste again. We recently visited Quintessa to celebrate our anniversary and were really looking forward to a special, intimate experience. The ambiance was absolutely beautiful and our host was warm, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the wines. That said, for a premium 90-minute tasting meant to mark a personal milestone, we found ourselves wishing for a bit more space to enjoy the moment together. The experience felt very host-led throughout, which, while well-intentioned, made it hard to have quiet, intimate time as a couple. Over the course of the tasting, it started to feel a bit heavy rather than celebratory. Quintessa is a stunning property and we truly wanted this visit to feel as special as the occasion. With a little more balance between guidance and privacy. For the price of this experience it wasn't what we wanted and that's the unfortunate part as it feeling heavy and as if we had to keep the host company. read more

What a beautiful vineyard. It is so stunning an obvious that the sommeliers put a lot of effort into the wine that they produce here. We did a private tour and tasting. They do a special irrigation system that we got to learn about and see. I really respect all of the effort that they put into their wines at this winery. They try to stay sustainable, and continue to produce some of the best wine in wine country. We had the option to purchase select wine bottles, or even cases if we wanted. They even offered us membership options. The pricing for all of this was pretty affordable in terms of what you would expect for Napa and an experience like this. read more

This continues to be one of my favorite vineyards to visit in all of Napa. Amazing wines, great service, and beautiful views. We recently did the Quintessential experience ($225pp for a tour and private tasting in one of their private glass villas overlooking the vineyards and Dragon Lake, which includes a cheese/charcuterie/nut plate to share, a taste of two Quintessa vintages, a taste of two barrel samples, and a taste of the Illumination White). Don't get me wrong. This was stupid expensive and I was trying to book one of the cheaper experiences but this was the only one available at the time we could do. That said, it turned out for the best and I would probably book the same experience again because I loved it so much! Our wine tour guide Paul was amazing. Very accommodating to the fact that we were 15 minutes late but still was able to fit everything in. He was very nice, friendly, and the perfect amount of talkative - he was educating but not overbearing. He also was very knowledgeable and helpfully answered all of our questions. I loved the wines they had to offer and went home with a 3-pack of the Illumination White, which is their Sauvignon blanc (it was the best one we had all weekend), a 3-pack of the 2019 Quintessa, and a 1.5 L of the 2011 Quintessa (they were sadly out of the 750 ML). He also gave out still and sparkling water bottles before we started the tour, which I appreciated. We were a party of 4 and visited 7 different wineries over the two-day weekend. Date of Visit: 12/31/2022 Finally got the chance to visit Quintessa on the last day of 2022. The Estate Experience started from the reception lobby. Since it was raining on that day, there were no outside tour. Instead, we took the elevator down to the wine cave and had indoor tour and tasting. Quintessa was founded in 1989 by Agustin and Valeria Huneeus, There are five different type of soil, and growing five different grape varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Carménère. They only make one wine every year. Based on the climate and condition of the grapes, the wine maker mix the best of the wine into the bottles of Quintessa. After the cave tour, we sat at the tasting room to taste three different Quintessa: Quintessa 2019 Current Release Quintessa 2017 Library Selection Quintessa 2014 Library Selection On the side there were salami, fig, cranberry, and cheese to pair with. Our favorite was 2017 Quintessa, earthy and well balanced. 2014 taste more mineral, and 2019 was still too young. read more

In the world of high end Napa Cabernet, it's always lovely and perfectly balanced. Their winemaker I admire very much especially for her work at her personal project Post and Vine. Our guide Paul seemed like a lovely human being. But I cannot recommend anyone visiting Quintessa based on our Super Bowl Sunday visit especially at an almost $400 charge for an outdoor pavilion tasting. We arrived on time and sat for a few minutes in their lovely tasting room. Bathrooms not perfect but I figured it was the afternoon and who knew who was here earlier. The walk up to the outdoor pavilion was nice, pretty grounds, nice lake. Paul took some photos of us which turned out great. The tasting is 6 glasses...two vintages of the white, two vintages of Quintessa, two barrel samples. A minuscule plate of cheese and fixings is given to share. For a V-Day weekend it all seemed rather lackluster. The wines were nice, the small plate was good, but for the price point it didn't come close to Louis Martini's lunch pairing or AXR's over the top Cabernet tasting with bomb cheese chips. And again, I love Quintessa wines! We were walked back down...and then just left in the tasting room. No good bye, no chance to purchase wines to lower tasting fee, no chance to even tip Paul who did seem like a friendly, nice guy. So, one more stop in the bathroom, and we walked out. A V- Day weekend disappointment. I will still buy Quintessa occasionally, but I cannot recommend anyone come here for a tasting. Go to Martini or AXR instead. You will pay less and have a far better experience. read more

I was recommended to come here by a client so when I was planning my Napa trip I made sure to book a tasting experience. This was my parent's first time in Napa so I wanted to treat them. From my client's review I had very high expectations going in. Right away there were issues. We hired a driver to drop us off and Quintessa is very particular about how they have a closed front gate and you need to call and wait to be buzzed in for reservations and to arrive early. We did just that and waited with 3 other vehicles while on a very busy road to get in and it took over 30 minutes for them to open the gate making us late for our reservation. They said the gate was having issues all day, but if they knew there was issues they should have left the gate open to prevent waiting and late arrival. I did mention the issue and they didn't even seem to care. Once inside we were greeted and off with our private tour. This part started lovely. Went on a golf cart and saw the beautiful views and got educated on the land, the types of grapes, and the creators. We got to try the grapes in different stages. Then we went to our private area for the tasting. The set up and views were stunning. The first part was mixing two wines to get to create our own personal wine. By themselves they were not particularly good, but once mixed it was good and it was fun to create your own wine. Then we tried the 2013 and 2019. The 2019 was fine but I've had better wine from other wineries in Napa. The 2013 was one of the worst wines I've ever had in my life. I would consider it un drinkable. My parents and myself felt more of the same. I paired it with a bite of cheese, salami, and then a sip and it was fine but definitely not good. To me it was too much work to make it taste good. This was shocking because it was rated a perfect score. My family and I are very knowledgeable about wine and this was not it. Overall I'd give it a 3 stars because the wine was not good but the experience was fun and unique. I would recommend this to people who want a deep education about wine but not for flavor. read more

Susan was beyond exceptional and a highlight during my visit. She was extremely knowledgeable and she gave just the right amount of attention during my tasting. Left disappointed and underwhelmed after our tasting at Quintessa. Quintessa can be a good experience if you are looking to taste high price wines before purchasing. If you are looking for a wine country tasting experience, this is not the place for you. The property is beautiful but the pictures online can be misleading. They show seating on a hilltop pavilion overlooking the winery with gorgeous views, which is what we were willing to pay $100 per person for a 4 wine tasting flight. We went in expecting to be seated there or at least in an outdoor space, however, the tasting room is indoors in a closed small cave type room at the entrance of the winery. It felt like a waste of a beautiful property. Wines were good - I liked the white illumination. One of the whites was more acidic. From the reds, the vintage 2018 had depth and 2016 was more balanced with slightly less tannins. They allowed us to revisit some of the wines we liked, which was a good gesture. Service was friendly and very personal which we appreciated however felt rushed. Our wines were waiting for us when we got there and whites were poured as soon as we were seated (which led my second white to get warmer by the time I got to it, so I couldn't even have it at the ideal temperature). Overall not worth the $100 per person tasting price. There are quite a lot of other wineries in this area that will deliver a lot more value with a cheaper or similar price point. read more

Amazing experience all around. I came with my family and everyone had a wonderful time. I am not a huge wino but my parents are, yet I still loved this tour. Our guide Eric was super cool and knowledgeable. After exploring the winemaking areas and explaining the processes, we went to a private tasting villa. First time at Quintessa and was impressed by the setting. The wine host or educator was great and informative. While the offerings were limited the Sauvignon Blanc was well made. Their flag ship red blend ( mostly Cabernet Sauvignon) was incredible and comparing the vintages as well as the wine used in the blend was fun. By far a bucket list winery and dream come true. Always read so much about this amazing family, their vision and their product. Visited the valley for the second time and could not resist but book a tour. I know I know we've done a ton of winery tours, we get it, we know how wine is made and where it comes from but this tour was so special. Booked the Quintesential tour, was greated with a glass of their version of Rosè. Full disclosure, I don't like Rosè, bit this one went down smooth, and I craved more.... Then he took us down under, explained the process and then some. I actually learned new things! After a few more stairs we arrived at the "cave" and those beautiful and great smelling barrels lined the hallways. Amazing! Then upstairs again where we jumped in a side by side and were driven to the top of the hill, overlooking heaven and all its Glory! My God, what a gorgeous view! Breathtaking to say the least! We had the glass room to ourselves. We were treated to a vertical wine tasting, made my eyes water when our awesome tour guide mentioned it. He took his time explaining and allowing us to enjoy every single drop. Had the time of our lives! This experience will be with me forever! My white denim pants were stained by the glorious 2015 Quintessa cab, by accident, but with a little "wineout"the stains turned blue to match my top. Everyone raved about my awesome pants! Out of the wineries we went to during our Napa trip, Quintessa was one of our favorites. This tasting/ "experience" was a bit more expensive than some of the others we did but I would spend the money to do it again! It feels like a very lush tasting from the moment you arrive. The location is gorgeous both inside and out. The actual tasting for the "Quintessa experience" takes place inside but we enjoyed it. Our guide Mike was very knowledgeable and was a great host to us. Gorgeous property and delicious wines. We ended up taking home the Sauv Blanc, rose, and Chardonnay. Surprisingly we weren't fans of the Quintessa Cab which is their show-stopper. Nacho was the man. If you can get him as your host, do it. He was super knowledgeable and easy going. While the tasting room is gorgeous, it kinda sucked to not be able to enjoy Napa outside as they don't have patio seating. Will go back for the delicious wine, and service! read more

This was one very impressive winery. We had reservations (highly recommended), and took the estate tour. Our tour began with Laura who brought us up a stone staircase pathway from the tasting room, up to the vista point overlooking the whole vineyards. She gave us a tasting of a soft white wine, Illumination, as she explained the lay of the land; The plots where certain grapes grow, the hills, and how their man made lake came about. The second part of our tour went through the winery process. Starting with the roof top where the harvest is dropped. Down to the presses, to the huge French oak barrels, and into the caves. Like I said, "very impressive"! To the tasting room: We were given an informative envelope with cards about the wines and order form. I love the map on the back of each wine description card, really cool . As for our flights, they consisted of: Quintessa 2010 - A cabernet blend. Dryer than the others, but still good. Little fruit flavor and less floral. Quintessa 2009 - Floral to smell, and I did not like this one at first. But after sitting, it slowly became my second favorite behind the 2006. Quintessa 2008 - This was the best with the cheeses. Soft to the palate and finishes smooth and dry. Quintessa 2006 - This was perfect all around. The grapes grew with a lot of heat during that time. An excellent year! The cheese selection was good, I only wish I had bigger cuts. It doesn't help being a cheese-lover and you want more, but no big deal. The overall presentation was great, sorta pricey, but what do you expect. Would I do it again, yes! Why? Simply, because it's not so touristy here. read more

We had an appointment for four on a glorious, surprisingly sunny day in January. Located on the Silverado Trail, Quintessa is an impressive and beautiful winery to behold. Modern and luxurious but thoughtful and understated in it's design. The tour started with a complimentary bottle of Voss water and short walk up the gravelly steps of the hill. At the top you are treated to a magnificent panorama of the valley and the Quintessa property. We listened to our friendly hostess tell us about the owners, the land and the biodynamic farming methods that Quintessa employs while we drank in the spectacular view and a delicious glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Ladies, do wear reasonable shoes (or bring them with you just for this part) ... I didn't and the walk back down was a bit difficult. Next, we visited the cellar areas and learned about the winemaking efforts from raw materials to blending to cellaring. Finally we returned upstairs for another tasting featuring a current release Cab and two barrel samples. Seated in their tasting room we were able to relax, enjoy and discuss the wine without being upsold, hovered upon or rushed in any way. All three tastes were wonderful, but the current release (2005) and the Bench sample were my favorites. The wines were paired with a few delicious nibbles including foie and truffle rolled in pistachios with red wine syrup, wild mushroom phyllo cups with sweet onion confit and an artisan gouda. We were told that they feature different chefs regularly so as to highlight the variety of restaurants in the area. The tasting and tour is a pricey $65 per person as of this writing, but it certainly was a worthwhile treat compared to some of the other places I've been to in Napa. No circus atmosphere here... this is an elegant, world class winery worthy of making a destination spot on your next visit to the area. read more

Beautiful location and building as you drive up the ramp. Very modern and sophisticated. They have a nice wood burning fire place going as you walk in the front door. Around the back of the fire place is where most of the magical tastings happen. Very intimate, and perfect for date night or a classy getaway. Call ahead to book an appt time. They're mostly known for their red blends of Cab/ petite Verdot/ cab franc. Tasting their vertical of all the blends was amazing, and I definitely found a few favorites among the four.
