Nail tech I booked with ended up not being available. The nail tech I got was talking on her phone while she did my nails. I went to this salon because I love Dazzle Dry but they did not apply it correctly as it is bubbling up and pealing off in less than a week. read more

I've been coming to Fantasy Nail since 2007, when I first moved to Chicago. Back then, it was a smaller space, but it has since doubled in size with pleasant upgrades and the same warm, welcoming atmosphere. The staff are always friendly, and while the team of technicians has evolved over the years, the owner, Kathy, has always been a constant. She has an incredible memory and somehow remembers all her return customers by name -- even someone like me who only comes in occasionally for pedicures. As a pianist, I don't get manicures, so I don't visit that often, but she still remembers me every time. Although I no longer live in the Gold Coast neighborhood, I always try to stop by when I'm in the area. Their basic spa pedicure is consistently excellent, including a scrub (exfoliating) and calf massage -- all at a very reasonable price. Highly recommend! read more

I've gone here a few times for my eyebrows and decided to try just a general manicure here. They changed who was supposed to be doing my nails without telling me (made my appointment with Nancy and got Kim, she was very nice though) but I'm really disappointed with how my nails didn't even last a whole day. I got these done Thursday and this is how they looked Saturday morning. Very disappointed won't be returning for anything mail related. read more

Used to come here a lot, overtime though the service has been rushed and I figured it was because they were busy (I would go on weekends). Went back today two hours before closing (got in at 5 and they close at 7). I was scheduled to have an appointment with Kathy, although after I got there and checked in it was changed to someone else (which I did not ask for). Service once again felt rushed and left with my nails being uneven (on both hands). The employees are always nice, however I left very upset with how they were done. The nail lengths were uneven between fingers (couldn't take a pic of both hands next to each other) and my thumb nail wasn't straight. I will be going somewhere else to get them fixed now and no longer going back. read more

I've walked by this place a few times and have always made a mental note to visit. Larger space on the inside than what it looks on the outside, for sure! I only get pedicures, so my expectations are never really high. I was pleasantly surprised! I was able to walk right in and get serviced - I'm not sure if this is the norm, but there were quite a few clients who had appointments too. They seemed to be on a first name basis with the staff; the customer service seemed to be up to par. Lots of colors to choose from and I was in and out within 30 minutes. Sure, pretty toes is important, but I also get pedicures for the foot and calf massage. This one was a little lacking in both time and pressure, but I'm sure if I were to come here on the regular, we would get that sorted out. Side note, be careful with the stairs coming in and out of the building! It's the basement level of a brownstone, and the stairs are narrow and pretty steep. I was in flip flops, so no problem - but if you are in heels or it's icy out - be careful! read more

I came in this afternoon with an appointment for a gel overlay. While the customer service was nice, I was lied to. Acrylic powder was applied to my nails, a gel top coat over that, and then the regular polish of my choice. I asked twice if the powder was acrylic because I'm not new to nail extensions, have discovered an allergy to acrylic, and I was skeptical. The tech (Kathy I believe) assured me it was a gel powder. After she completed the acrylic application, I asked, "is this gel powder that doesn't need to be cured..?" Again, she assured me it was gel. My appointment was at 2:30 and it is now 4:25 and my nail beds are burning. I enjoyed speaking with Kathy and she was very nice, but I won't recommend a business that outright lies and tries to take advantage of their customers. read more

I was a walk in here and they were able to take me right away. They did a great job with my acrylic set and were very friendly. They were also surprisingly speedy, but still good quality. The ladies working were very nice and welcoming. However, my acrylics fell off within the first two weeks, and she wouldn't shorten my nails even after asking multiple times. read more

Kathy called me to discuss the matter and to make everything right. She gave me a call with an apology and has offered a full refund.

Everyone was really nice. But the whole experience was unacceptable. I've had a full set for more than 5 years and the girl who tried to do my nails couldn't even hold a drill right and was drilling over the same spot on each nail trying to get the paint off. I was in the chair for 20+ min and she couldn't get regular no chip off my nails?? All I wanted was a standard fill in. I ended up leaving because it was so ridiculous and I didn't trust her with the rest of the process/health of my nails. It was almost laughable and scary. Second time I've tried it here and they just aren't quality for the neighborhood/prices. I ended up going around the corner and it was an amazing experience. Even that tech was shocked at the weirdness this girl left my nails. read more

Came here for help fixing a broken nail. I usually do my own regular manicures at home. To help get the broken mail to be the same length as the others, Davina recommended one acrylic nail. I have struggled finding a nail salon in the downtown area that does a great job and due to the low start rating at yelp was kind of hesitant on deciding to try this place. But after trying multiple 4+ star nail salons only to walk out with poorly done mani/pedi/full sets I thought how much worse can it get?! So let me start by saying this: *** KATHERINE, you are amazing! *** She took me as a walk in for an acrylic fill in on a Friday evening and I only waited 10-15mins. (Compared to waiting 30 plus mins at other salons with having an appointment) She was very nice and personable and her service so far downtown is unmatched. She listened to my requests and quickly shaped and filled my nails - even picked the perfect color for me within seconds. Secondly, the PRICE: They are less expensive than any other place in the neighborhood. I love that, mainly because all the other places grossly overcharge for services and colors that have historically been included in the starting price. I paid $40 for the same fill in with no chip that I paid $70 for at 312 nails. Other places have generally charged $50-55. The place itself isn't super fancy but it does for itself. I strongly recommend Katherine at Fantasy nails. read more

Literally just got my nails done here. It's the sloppiest manicure I've ever had. I honestly could have done it myself. It make it worse, no joke, it smelled like pee in there. I wouldn't sit on the drying chairs. Makes me wonder if a child peed and they didn't clean it up. For the price, it's not worth. There's way better nail salons in Chicago. read more

It's definitely not the most glamorous set up. Rather, expect a small, basement-like setting with a few pedi stations and few mani stations. The massage chairs are rather beaten up, but my friend and I walked right in and sat down to get our toes done. I noticed that her pedicurist gave her a leg massage/scrub, whereas mine didn't. (Arch eyebrow.) I was happy with the nail job otherwise though. $25 well spent. Plus... the new Chickfila is up the block! read more

Got a great gel manicure as a walk in the other day. They sat me right away, they didn't rush through things - for example, they don't use the acrylic tools to take off old gel polish which damages the nails, they take the time to do it right. They have a ton of color selections and the place was clean and spacious. I've been other salons with better ratings nearby and this place was much better! read more

Ok it is kind of small, and it's in the basement. BUT I've tried other nail salons with nice decor and bigger space, and I always come back to them. I only go with Kelly or Katherine, they are sister-in-laws and they are consistently good. I especially like Kelly's eyebrow waxing. She's fast and efficient and don't waste time chatting with you. Katherine is a little chatty, hence waaaayyy slower than kelly, but just as good. read more

I've been coming to Fantasy Nails for a few years, and have always been very pleased with their service. However, when I went 2 days ago, I had to keep asking the woman who took care of me to clean up polish from my skin and she wouldn't apologize when accidentally running the gel polish remover tool into my skin. Now, it's 2 days later and my nail look like this, from a gel polish change. I expect gel to last 2 weeks and I didn't run my hands into anything. read more

Hot mess! My sister and I went to get our nails done a few weeks ago. My no chip chipped within a day or two. I called and the manager was very short with me, but she told me to text pics and to come in for them to fix my nails. The first time I thought it was the nail tech who I felt missed a step or two since I do get no chip pretty frequently. As you can see from the pic of the new no chip I got, it was not the tech! I literally got my nails done Tuesday and today this happened and NO I am not coming back so they can "fix it" they need to do it right the first time. I'm not sure why their no chip sucks, but I am beyond mad that I wasted my time and money. The reason for the one star is because of the quality, but also how dismissive the manager was. No apology and obviously not in the business to build customer loyalty. read more

Complete rip off, charged over $100 for a full set off acrylic nails and pedicure. When I asked them to break down prices they told me my pedicure was $55!!!! They pick and choose who they charge more which is a rumor I heard before going there but chose not to believe. My friend went on her own another day and only got charged $28 for her pedicure. It's only been a week and two nails are already broken, the rest are mad sore. Also, don't ask for gel because they only have acrylic but will charge you for gel price!!!!!! DO NOT GO HERE! I could of had blinged out nails for a lower price but instead I have crooked wanna be coffin nails. UPDATE: All of my nails popped off within a week. The photos below were taken a week after me trying to repair the damage their chemicals did to my nails. All of my nails are chemically damaged but this one is the worst, my nail was no longer attached to my nail bed so I had to cut off almost half of it but as you can see the nail is done for. I've never ever ever had my nails look soooo bad after getting them done and I've gone to places way cheaper than this. If anyone knows any remedies for chemically damaged nails please let me know. read more

So I've been 3 times to this place. First time, no complaints, great nails, relaxing experience. Second time, woman doing my nails seemed like she didn't want to be there, and my nails came out just okay. Third time just a couple days ago, this lady was on her phone the ENTIRE time, and did a AWFUL job on my pedicure and my no chip. I was literally able to peel my no chip off with no nail polish remover and the application was just overall not professional, very sloppy. I paid $60 for a piss poor job on my nails, even adding a $5 tip only because the lady stood over me as I signed the reciept. I would call and complain, but honestly, I don't want anyone from this place doing my nails ever again. Please, just trust me and don't go here. I will be going elsewhere in a few days to get my nails fixed and have a more pleasant experience. read more

Only good thing was they took me in right away for the spa pedi and I didn't have to wait. The technician was too light on the pressure and seemed very fast or she was in a rush. When i got home, I noticed that the essie nail polish wasn't applied evenly...some parts of the nail was a lighter shade than another. Update 10/6 the polish was already peeling...usually my pedicure lasts for over a month. read more

I LOVE getting my nails done, and I hate giving bad reviews. That being said, overall the environment created for customers like me is neither one of safety nor security. Let me start with the fact that I've visited this place multiple times and while the proprietors are lovely I had possibly the worst experience at this nail salon and will never return. While here my 2 month old iphone was stolen from the nail station at which I was told to sit. I had tinfoil on my gel nails to remove the last before getting the next manicure and my phone sitting face down next to me on the station counter. A man was able to walk in with no inhibition and come directly to my station, assault me (asking for money and intimidatingly standing over me) and steal my phone. The manager did not appear until the assault had already gone on for a bit and thankfully moved my bag away from the man, but did not get rid of him until shortly before I realized he had taken my iphone with him. It is highly illegal to allow solicitors to assault your patrons and negligent to not follow-up when a strange man enters your nail salon/business and does not acknowledge your first, "Can I help you." Upon returning to the nail salon some 4 days later inquiring if there was any sort of insurance policy when customers are stolen from, I was told there was no policy at all and was not compensated at all (not even the manicure I had intended on getting in the first place). So, I'm currently out $900 for attempting to get a gel manicure at this place. I liked this place, but any nail salon that harbors this type of negligent environment leaving its customers essentially defenseless is not one to which I feel comfortable returning. read more
