I got a last-minute spa pedicure. I went here honestly because they were close to where I was at the moment. Very happy with the decision.

I was pleased with how my nails came out. I've been coming to this salon for months now, and so far I have not had a bad experience.

I've been to this salon several times and usually have very good experiences, particularly with Hien. On my most recent visit, Vy did builder gel on my nails and I left the salon satisfied. Fast forward three days later, my nail broke while I was washing my hair. WHILE I WAS WASHING MY HAIR. I wasn't doing anything rough or intense that would have caused my nail to break. I returned to the salon and had my broken nail repaired, only to be told that it would be $7 for this. I questioned this and asked the manager at what point does the salon take responsibility for their service quality. The manager said that had my nail been "chipped" rather than broken, the repair would have been free. Ultimately, I decided to pay the $7 to avoid going back and forth. Given this experience and the lack of accountability for subpar work, I would not return to this salon. read more

My first week in Chicago from California, decided I needed to pamper myself being in a new area. Saw some decent reviews from this place and decided to come. My girl Mika took care of me for sure! One thing about her is she doesn't play about her work. She's very meticulous and ensures your nails/cuticles are pristine!! She even accommodated me to ensure my gel-x nails still would be short enough for work (bc I'm in healthcare). Sure enough, when my old nails grew out, I came back just for her. Here's the thing: HONESTY goes a long way. I called this morning about a toe polish change and a dip manicure. The manager Dee told me that I would have a 6:30p dip appointment but I should come early for toe polish change and to soak off my old dip. So as suggested, I did exactly that. I have a flight tomorrow. I only mention this because when I have an appointment, my expectation is that the services I need will be done as scheduled. I checked in at 5:30 and was told to select polish and dip colors, then take a seat. After about 20 minutes, I asked a tech how long it would be. She acted as though she didn't speak any English and just looked at me eyes glossed over. She had a face mask on so I couldn't see her expression. Another 25 minutes goes by... now I've been here sitting without any services just over 45 minutes as I think about all the things I have to do before my flight. Several other women are still ahead of me and others walk in behind me. They don't turn anyone away or let anyone know how behind they are which I find to be very disrespectful of customer's time. As it approaches 6:30pm (my appointment time) the manager Vy ask if I want to come back because they are very busy and it will probably still be another 30-45 minutes before anyone can start. I say no. I explain how I made an appointment and I have been waiting. Other places are about to close so going elsewhere at this point is not a viable option. At this point, I decided I need only my toes done because they look pitiful and I will skip the dip manicure because I simply don't have time for it. Besides they close at 7pm and I don't want to be the last one here like what happened to me before that was a total nightmare! See previous review for more. I forgot how bad it was until I re-read my previous review. Ugh! Bottom line: I had hoped a year later they would have fixed this issue; had I known they could still not hold firm to an appointment, I would not have bothered to give this place another chance. They do NOT deserve it. Especially the night before a flight, my time is tight and valuable. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this nonsense. I came from out of state and found them via YELP and made a reservation. Thought they did a terrific job with my nails and toes and were priced similar to what I pay back at home. They gave great customer service too. I would recommend them and come back when I'm back in the city. read more

Beautiful gel manicure! Kim was so sweet and paid attention to every detail. I selected a color and Kim showed me the color asking if it was what I wanted. When I told her it was much more sheer than I thought it would be she made a perfect recommendation. My only negative was when paying at the front desk and telling the gentleman what an exceptional job Kim had done and how happy I was with my manicure he replied that she had been "well trained.. implying by him. Five stars all the way! Friends and I were in town and after a couple of days of walking and exploring, we needed some rest and a refresh. We found Top Coat on Yelp and it happened to be directly across the street from our hotel (we stayed at the Moxy). My friend got a pedi and I got a mani. As for my experience, it was great from start to finish. I wish I got my tech's name because she did a wonderful job shaping my nails. It's been a week and they still look great. My new go-to nail spot in the city! I've been here twice already and had a great experience both times. I made an appointment for my first visit during their grand opening, however I was able to walk-in on Thursday around 3:30 p.m. without a wait for a no-chip mani/pedi. Cindy and Chloe were my nail technicians and they really took their time to give them TLC. They have so many colors to choose from and do dip manicures. Prices here are great, cheaper than many of the other nail salons in the area. It only costs $83 for a no-chip mani/pedi and you can pay through Venmo. Normally love coming to Top Coat, it's my go to spot! Unfortunately i had a less than stellar no chip pedicure from Chloe yesterday. She cut my foot with the file/buffer tool and was bleeding so much had to get a bandaid. My big toenails were also cut to very different lengths so it looks odd (one clearly shorter than the other). I'll probably request a different tech next time. On a positive, Tina did an amazing job on my powder dip manicure! My experience with Top Coat Nail spa started out on a very positive note. It was easy to call and get an appointment and they were flexible when I was running late. The front desk guy was very nice and friendly. The only bad thing about my experience was that my feet were buffed too much, not always on the callus. This caused a portion of my heel to look raw, almost like a bad blister that popped. Unfortunately, this made the rest of my pedicure less enjoyable as it was throbbing every time I put my foot back in the water. I went with my mom and she loved her pedicure so maybe the lady who did my nails was just new. However, if I am playing $91 for a gel pedicure (pre tip) I expect to enjoy the full pedicure without worrying about potentially getting an infection from an open wound caused at the salon. read more

Alright don't be too mean when you see my hideous before picture lol. I typically do my own nails but I don't happen to have my nail kit with me. I haven't had the time to get my nails done and by the time i'm free during the week everything is usually closed. Today I happened to have time and decided I really need to get a manicure. Especially after i almost tore a nail off while trying to fix my bed and breaking a nail at the gym. I happened to call at 4:00pm and a sweet gentleman answered the phone. I saw a photo of nails I liked here on yelp and they caption helen as their nail tech. I asked the gentleman if helen was working and if she could do my nails. He went to ask her and it seems like she was going to say no considering the time. I told him i dont mind scheduling for the following week at an earlier time but she ended up taking me! I got there and we started at 4:30 and they immediately had me wash my hands as I stepped inside. I already liked that they took that safety step from the start. I filled out paperwork then waited to be seen. Helen came and greeted me and had me sit at the station. She was rushing quite a bit since they close at 5. While she worked on my nails she was rushing so fast but her work was still flawless. Im super traumatized and scared of getting nipped during cuticle trims but she moved so fast and effortlessly I was pretty shocked. It was my first time doing dipped ombré nails but I'm satisfied with them! I really like them. I decided to just go with my natural nails and length and just doing a short round shape. He then claimed there was no one with the name of Vy or Sara working in the salon, which is a blatant lie or that he suffers from mild amnesia or he is simply not a good owner who knows the names of his staff. This has been my go to spot for over a year now. A little more pricey than others, but the consistency and quality job makes it worth it. All of the women do an an excellent job - really. I haven't had a bad dip manicure from any of them. I avoid the men as they have nicked my cuticles twice. They have a million colors, walk-in is generally pretty easy, although Thurs and Fri can be very busy, and the store is clean. Oh, note to owner: I really don't like the timers and the discretely posted sheets for the manicurists that list how many minutes each service should take. I have to update my review because I ended up getting infections in my two big toes and now I have to go to the doctor 3 days after receiving a pedicure from this place. The infection is only getting worse. I reached out to management to let them know about this situation. I'm not sure if the way the tech Cut my nails caused this because I had cuts on both toes, or if the tools are not being properly sanitized. It's unfortunate, because the over all pedicure looked nice and I truly do love what they did with my dip with tip. However, I won't be back because sanitation seems to be an issue. read more

I understand that businesses are doing their best during COVID and I'm a huge advocate for the service industry. I have been going to Top Coat since 2018 and the moment they reopened after COVID, I was there. They have dealt with so much, including a looting incident during the racial injustice protests. But with each visit, I find myself even more disappointed. My last dip manicure didn't even make it a week before chipping on not one but 5 nails. The dip manicure before my most recent, I had to return the same day to have it fixed because it was done so poorly. One of their techs even told me to only request particular techs if I wanted a solid manicure while repairing my manicure that was done poorly. I am low maintenance because I was once in the service industry and respect that a business is always doing their best. I rarely complain, but lately I'm so disappointed. Mistakes can happen, but Top Coat values quality over anything else. After I posted my previous review, Top Coat promptly reached out to me and offered to re-do my gel manicure. I came in today and Vy was my technician. All the reviews about her awesome work are true - she pays great attention to detail, is courteous, and makes sure that her work is perfect. My cuticles have never looked cleaner! A nail was scuffed (my bad!) while curing under the light and Vy quickly fixed it and made sure that all the other nails were okay. I also appreciated that their instruments were autoclaved and that Vy wore gloves during my manicure. D and Vy have great customer service; they are friendly and acknowledged all the customers walking in. I understand Vietnamese pretty well, and all the Vietnamese talk between them was strictly business. They have so many colors for regular, gel, and dip manicures that they'll definitely have the color and shade you're looking for. My nails have the smooth finish I wanted and 0 weird bubbles. I had a great experience at Top Coat. I made my appt through the Yelp app (fast response time) around 10:30AM and was scheduled for a same day 2PM slot. I arrived a few minutes early and spent my time selecting a color (the selection is very large, my nail tech estimated they have 500+ colors--not great if you're indecisive but impressive nonetheless). Chloe fixed one of my nails that had cracked and was in danger of ripping off. She applied two coats of glue and powder before buffing and polish application. I opted for a no-chip gel manicure in DND's "morning eggnog" and it came out great.
