Can I just say everyone at Fannie May's is so incredibly nice. My friend Danielle said that these candies are the See's of the Midwest so we dropped by to check them out. We were greeted right away and the team there was so warm and inviting. They had a promo buy 6 for $10 or 12 for $20, I ended up getting some bars for my family and friends, super inexpensive and didn't add additional weight to my carry on. The team was so friendly they gave my friend a sample and she loved it and went to get more. When we got home, I ended eating one of the pieces myself and it was so rich, definitely needed to be a chocolate girly for these but I know my parents are going to love them. I was in this location to experience the free Jolly Trolley that they offered. The store was smaller than I expected, but the staff was attentive and kind and they almost immediately offered us samples upon walking in. The display cases were full and neat. In our party of 5, one purchased the box of chocolates that benefitted St. Jude's, 3 collected their free chocolate bars from the trolley, and I just looked around to learn more about the company. I acknowledge that the trolley itself is probably considered a separate entity from the store, so I am not reflecting upon that. I am not a huge chocolate person so it took a special event to get me into the space, but the chocolate that I did try was pretty good. Holly, Jolly, Trolley! Sounds a lot like Christmas fun! Count me in! I read all of the fine print and explored the details. Tickets are FREE which is absolutely thoughtful during this holiday season. Way to give back Fannie May. Thank you. Headed to the store on Michigan Ave. right after work, showed my QR code to one of the cashiers and was given a ticket. So excited, I really was a kid in a candy store. We all were told to wait and someone would come and get us for the trolley ride. It wasn't long before a gentleman entered wearing a bright red jacket and led us to the beautifully decorated trolley. Christmas lights and bulbs everywhere. Garland and tinsel strategically placed. Filled stockings and candy decor spilling out of bags. Mini trolley cars and candles. Let's not forget the theme music. Our tasting conductor along with his assistant cheered us on by engaging with a bit of historical candy trivia. We were each handed a four piece box of chocolates for a tasting. Our ticket was stamped after each candy. Photo opportunities everywhere. The trolley makes four stops, you can get off at any one of the four stops. You can even stay on for the full forty-five minutes. The tour ends back at Fannie May. There is a 10$ coupon attached to your ticket that can be used at any one of the stores. I always stop for chocolates! [Chicago CA] That huge sign at the shop was calling my name... in fact, it has my name on it. Before heading to the parking garage we made a quick stop at the shop. Whenever we come across a confectionery store I always make it a point to grab a bag of my favorite milk chocolate peanut clusters. Inside is immaculate in red and white theme. The shelves were neatly stocked with merchandise -- gift towers, mix & match candy bars and custom assortments. I proceeded to make my way towards the back... I've never heard of Fannie May chocolates before but I'm sure they would have my chocolate peanut clusters. Found it immediately in the display case.... so yummy!! Friendly customer service! Stopped by on a recent trip to Chicago; the brand was new to me but I am not one to pass up a candy store. Beautiful displays and super friendly staff handing out samples made it very hard to pick what to buy and limit myself to not taking it all home. They do have a few ways to buy; pre-packaged, variety packs, and build your own packs, so choose your own adventure! Can't go wrong here - my favorite are the buckeyes. read more

To be honest, I've never ever heard of Fannie Mae fine chocolate but once I saw it on Michigan Avenue, of course I had to go inside. It is located right beside the riverwalk entrance and on Michigan at DuSable Bridge. The staff were there if I needed them and did not intrude at all when I was browsing. However, they did come over to me with samples, which of course I could not refuse. The chocolate is delicious & decadent. Dangerously good. I've loved Fannie may since I was a child. I visited this store last week and felt bad for the staff, there is nothing on the shelves to grab, there are none of the iconic flavors and packaging they used to have since Fannie May was sold in 2017. They could have made this location a gold mine but instead it feels like it's waiting for the lease to expire and close. I watched many tourists like myself walk in and out of the almost empty store wondering what had happened to the luster, it made me sad. read more

Like most visiting from out of town, I was in need of some souvenirs. Fannie May is a must stop, must try. They're known to be the "original See's". I was told there was a Fannie May before See's. But when I check online, says they started in 1938. See's Chocolate opened their first store in 1921. No biggie, both are amazing chocolatiers. Similar in style, they have a clean, bright white interior. There are more staff members in the store than the typical See's. The staff is informative and super friendly. They have the option of making your own boxed candy assortments which I appreciated. No waiting in line to choose your chocolates. Just grab the size box you need and fill. I highly recommend stopping in if you're a fan of good chocolate or just need some gifts to take back like I did. read more

If you need to bring a gift back from Chicago for your grandma or your mom, this is the place. While I don't think these chocolates are anything out of the ordinary, they make a good gift and momento of Chicago. Their known for their pixies, Trinidad's and mint melt aways. I got all three for my mom on my most recent visit. The 1 lb boxes are about $27 so they aren't cheap but they do have smaller options of individuals or larger of 2 lb boxes. One thing I think could really improve this place is having mixed boxes of just dark of just milk! They have a mixed box option but they said it's more milk than dark so I didn't buy it. read more

Needed a gift for my in-laws so we came here for some sweets. We were greeted with a sample of their chocolate mints, it was quite good. After much consideration, we opted for a bag of chocolate covered peanut butter pretzels and a box of assorted wrapped chocolates. It was a little odd when we got to the cashier desk and the two employees just continued their conversation without addressing us. BUT once they did address us, they were quite nice and she let us know that for only a few more dollars, we could get another bag of pretzels, so we got one for ourselves. **They do offer a military discount!!** I used my VA veterans card to get a discount. The employees of this store were so kind, and you always get a sample when you walk in, yum! The store itself here has a great setup up and decorations. Prices are more expensive here than other places but that probably expected given their location. Family favorite is the Mint Meltaways, which just melt in your mouth ( also your hand haha). Visited Fannie may, after not going for several years. They still serve up plenty of chocolates, but I must say. Everything is very different. I had a tastes for some Pixies and Dixies. They are not the same. The fresh candy is no longer there. The whole pecans that were once a part of these delicious treats is no longer available. Now, all you get a fragments of pecans, scattered along the bottom. Pixies and Dixies are mostly a caramel candy; the pecans have basically become a thing of the past. read more

They get one star for admittedly good chocolate, but lost all the other ones because their customer service totally sucks. I walked in about 6pm on Mother's Day because I was staying in a nearby hotel and wanted a little something for dessert. I walked over the counter for a few individual pieces, and this is the conversation I overheard. Employee 1: why are we open til 8pm tonight? We should close at 6. We should be closing now. Employee 2: We're open til 8. Employee 1: we should close at 6. We should close now. I don't want to be here anymore. I can't wait to get off. Employee 2: Well... Employee 1: plus, you can leave at 8. I have to clean up and lock up and it's gonna take me forever to get out of here. Ugh. So there I am, thinking "should I just walk out now? This woman obviously doesn't want to help me and maybe I shouldn't waste my money here." But I did want a piece of chocolate, and I was already there, so I figured I'd get something. Omg, the attitude. She was impatient and obnoxious because I took more than a few seconds to order (after standing there waiting for her to finish her conversation with Employee 2). It was not cool. I was staying at Hyatt Hotel and they were just around the corner. I decided to drop by. I love chocolate but for some reason, I found Fannie May chocolate a bit too sweet for me. I mean I expect chocolate to be sweet. But i find that it had less of the chocolate flavor because it was totally massed by the sweetness. Maybe the locals like their chocolate super sweet. We sniffed in for a BOURBON ESPRESSO COFFEE ice cream scoop which featured coffee flavor that was more like coffee only but not espresso. Medium sweet; nice bourbon on the finish. Rating = A- SALTED CARAMEL ICE CREAM -- not crazy sweet; creamy and milky; good caramel flavor but not overly pronounced Rating = B+ I was given a free chocolate as well and it was pretty nice. Fannie May has always been a tradition in my household growing up. I always looked forward to the Easter bunnies, gold coins, small heart shaped boxes, and chocolate suckers around the holidays. Craving some chocolate treats, I popped in to this store on a quiet Tuesday evening. I was greeted warmly and given some free samples to try. I also noticed they had some good discount specials, so in addition to selecting a few chocolates from the case, I also bought a couple of mini pixie packages. The pixies are definitely my favorite, though everything else I tried was good too. And all my purchases only came out to ~$8. What a steal! I got a box of assorted chocolates from here for Valentine's Day! Not being from Chicago, I actually had never heard of this brand before. So it was nice to try for the very first time. The packaging in a heart-shaped box was quite pretty with a big, red bow on top. The assorted chocolates contained milk and dark chocolate covered buttercreams, rich nougats, crunchy toffees, and more. I'm more into See's Candies Nuts n Chews, so the soft buttercreams were a bit too soft and sweet at first for my palate. But after a few more bites, I got used to the sweetness and enjoyed the variety of textures and flavors in this box. A very yummy treat, and even yummier when shared. :) read more

This is the Flagship store and I was told the only Fannie May's with a coffee bar. As soon as I walked in I was greeted with a friendly hello and offered a mint meltaway. The whole staff was super friendly and informative, but not pushy. The store was very clean and inviting, but not a huge selection of chocolates. I got a few gifts to bring back home and also grabbed a cup of hot chocolate. Being a chocolate store I had high expectations on that, it didn't quite deliver. I was somewhat shocked to see that it was prepared with just hot water, chocolate powder and some squirts of chocolate syrup. The ice cream was just OK and service was bizarre. There were 3 people working and 4 people in the store (3) in my group yet 2 of them were just sitting there while the girl at the counter fumbled her way through making a relatively easy iced coffee order. I loved this location since it was across the street from my work but it is always crowded! They always have free samples which I like since you never know what might become a new favorite. My best are any thing with the caramel since it's not too sweet for me, marshmallow covered chocolate, licorice and all of the special holiday candies - lips for Valentines and Christmas gifts or snowman make the perfect gifts! I'm from Chicago originally and ordered Fannie May for 20 years. Their website was always pretty crappy, but now the whole system is broken. #1) I received an email with notice of their holiday candy being available and a coupon code. The coupon code did not work, I tried it multiple times on different systems, different browsers, but always got an error. #2) The website is lousy #3) The Contact Us is a loop - if you have a genuine problem or question, there is no way to get a phone number to call unless you have placed an order #4) I placed an order anyway, because I am hopelessly addicted, and the total came to over $200. I received the order in a timely manner, but there was a whole 2lb. box of candy missing. I had to look up the order to find a phone number to call #5) Instead of shipping out the candy to me, they said they would refund my money, and I have to order again. Not the best chocolate I've ever tried but not the worst. It's worth a little visit since this place started in Chicago. I liked being able to try a bunch of different things and was able to get a few souvenirs for people (edible souvenirs are the best kind! ) There are quite a few of these shops in the area, some big some small. We actually stopped in 3 different ones just to check them out (and get different samples) It is overpriced but again it's geared toward tourists so just expect that. read more

We came in because we needed a warm place to sit down and wait til time to go to our appointment. Luckily I spotted about 6 stools and a counter in the window on the Michigan Avenue side of the store. Turns out this location sells beverages and some muffins, scones, etc. as well as chocolates! We entered and were promptly greeted by a lady at the cashier's counter who offered us a chocolate. I told her I'd like a coffee and she took us to that counter and waited on us. I purchased a hazelnut coffee which was good and a raspberry scone which disappointed me due to the total lack of raspberry flavor even I the dark red spots! So my advice is, stick to the coffee and chocolates. The husband and I sat on the stools and enjoyed the parade along Michigan Avenue headed north through the cold blustery winds. I recommend the coffee, but avoid the raspberry scones and do try some chocolates. read more

We visited here on a Sunday morning. We were initially very excited to visit the chocolate shop since we had heard great things about it. Unfortunately the service at this store was awful. We were the only two customers in the store and the three employees working didn't even acknowledge us. When we tried to ask questions about the chocolate the staff member was incredibly rude and unhelpful. I'd never buy anything from here due to their lack of customer service.
