From top to bottom (clockwise) Shredded pork and cream rolls, red bean bread, shredded pork bread

Love this place for Chinese breads. We always get the shredded pork rolls (with and without cream) and red bean bread. You'll need to purchase 8 breads for them to pack in a box, otherwise they pack in bags. There also is no menu, so you'll need to point for them to pack what you want. The cashiers don't speak English very well, so you know the place is authentic!

Fancy Wheatfield Bakery is a solid neighborhood staple. The location is convenient, right in the heart of the area, making it easy to stop by whenever you're craving Chinese pastries. The ambience is simple and no-frills--clean, bright, and welcoming without being over the top. Service is friendly and efficient, which makes the whole experience smooth. I've been coming here for a few years, and the hot dog pastries are a favorite, while their cakes are seriously amazing. it's great to have a reliable bakery like this nearby. Definitely four stars.

I'm not really sure what the hype is about this one. The price is good and the pastries were okay but it just doesn't compete with some of the other bakeries. It looks like they went with the covid restrictions and just stuck with them since it is only pickup now and the area to order is really tiny. There isn't a spot to see the menu from the outside so we had to look at the menu from the tiny pickup area inside and had to step away any time another customer came in to order since we were in the way when we were deciding. Most of the options were bread or cakes so we just went with a sweet roll and a egg tart. While they were cheaper than some of the other bakeries, there really wasn't much to them and they didn't seem worth the price. The roll was just a semi sweet bread and the egg tart was an odd mix of sweet and savory. The staff wasn't unfriendly but wasn't friendly either and the layout made it hard to ask questions. Maybe it was just what we got but I left hoping for more.

Special cake designs available for customization and ordering ahead of time for special parties. Or just pick the cakes already on display. If you want specific flavor like mixed cake or flavored mouse (strawberry, mango, chestnut, etc) then order days ahead. Otherwise if you walk in hoping to see what you want then I'm afraid you'll likely be out of luck. As most things in life, Plan ahead for special occasions. Hey you can have cake even if it's not an occasion and you're just getting together with friends and want a treat to bring to the potluck or get together After the pandemic you can no longer walk in there to browse or grab the pastries yourself. Which is a bit intimidating now, you have to line up. Line always goes out the door because it is a small space. Wait your turn then tell them exactly what you want, which for me is a bit uncomfortable because I don't know the names of every pastry there. I always just knew them based on how they looked (and how I remember it tasting, I like it or not). Egg tarts are usually sold out if you go later in the day. Best to get in morning cus everyone loves egg tarts how can you not. It's a delightful eggy treat that fits in your palms They also have a dim sum shop a few doors down. This store is pastries and cakes Opens 8am everyday of the week! Parking is hard in this area. So if there's parking I go. If I can't find parking right away then I just don't go and say no egg tarts for me today.

12 inch round fresh fruit cake, get it!

I ordered my mom's bday cake here and was quite impressed. Not only was it beautifully decorated with fresh fruits and flowers but the taste was so good that she said, it's not too sweet, IYKYK! What impressed me the most however was the packaging of this 12 inch round cake. They literally put it in a museum casing. I was so blown away when they handed it to me that I had to laugh out loud. You order the same thing and you will say wow! Just like all the family members who first laid eyes on it that day. It really was a sight to see just for a regular birthday cake.

Good prices. Not a great atmosphere. It looks like it used to be cute but you can only get things to go and they expect you to order right away. The egg tart was just okay. I wouldn't get it again. I wish there were more exciting options. Parking can be tricky but we found some in the neighborhood behind the bakery.

I came in around 12:20pm, to purchase a cake. However, there were only 3 cakes available. Others were made to order. One was a chestnut, strawberry mango mousse & fruit cake decorated with cute things and a Hello Kitty mini figurine. I opted for the Hello Kitty fruit cake. I really want to give 2 stars because whenever I call, they never pick up, but they're really nice in person. So I was only able to go by what they had in the fridge. My family likes the fruit cake, it was smooth & creamy. The fruit inside was sweet, mix of strawberry; mango; melon and kiwi. I have a bag just enough to fit the box, but the lady said it's better to hold it because she's worried I might kick the bag and mess up the cake. Good advice.

I love love love their meat floss cake! My bf got a box for me a few days ago and they're so delicious. Especially when you throw them in the airfryer or oven. Definitely going to get more! Service is great. Was easy to purchase items. The cashier is kind and friendly. Ambiance is great. Cute little bakery with such delicious pastries to choose from. Was easy to navigate around the bakery and choose what was interesting.

Ordered the mango cake for my partner's birthday. Everyone was impressed with how beautiful the cake was. The sweetness level was perfect for an Asian palette, although there was a bit too much cream for my taste. The first time we went, they ran out of all buns by ~4:30pm except BBQ pork buns, which typically I wouldn't complain about, but the pork itself was a little sweeter than expected. Same for the scallion hot dog bun, which we got on a second visit. That said, I'll still plan to get cakes & buns next time I'm nearby! Service was fine, not super duper friendly, but it's a Chinese takeout bakery... it's exactly as I'd expect.

Don't bother with the salted or preserved egg yolk products - they have some of the tiniest egg yolks I've ever seen. However, the cookies / shortbreads are rather decent. I'd buy those again.

I could see the balloon that held all of the anticipated excitement my husband had of showing me a "new" spot (it was new to me) all but heartbreakingly deflate. Sigh. Not wanting that crestfallen look to prevail, I told him we'd try again. A hole in the wall that is takeout only, the customarily drab sunset weather doesn't do the vibe any favors out here. When it's overcast & cold outside, does anyone want cold pineapple buns to go with it? That was my first experience, so I was curious about how the do over was going to go. Night & day... Yelpess with the mostess Cherylynn was spot on when she said the buns need to be warm & eaten asap. This is key to experiencing a stellar treat over a humdrum one. On our 2nd visit they were hot. They were pillowy. They were divine. Gloomy sunset weather? It could be RAINING outside & I wouldn't care right now. It was a total 180. Butter. Do it! I suggest you go for the gold, kerrygold Irish butter. Matcha. I love matcha so it's an automatic order but it's a definite winner. Not too sweet, because matcha isn't naturally sweet. Custard. Hubby's favorite. He's a vanilla head, so... Salted egg yolk. Hubby's other favorite. I like, he loves. Ube. WOW. Better than the matcha which is weird coming from me. The Ube filling BAKES INTO the interior & it is amazing! I wished I'd gotten 6 of these. The puffs. How friggin adorable. Just throw in 6 puffs. Or 18. Then dip them in the side of custard that comes with. If you get extra to take home (& you should), all you have to do is be sure to reheat them as per the directions on the box. Just place them on a baking sheet lined with foil, or an oven rack (I've done both, both work), at 325 for around 10 minutes. I think 12-15 minutes is actually ideal. I couldn't believe how soft they were after this. Like new! The next day, after being refrigerated all night! I know weird, but fact! A couple of days later I requested that we go again next Saturday. Like when you were a kid & you couldn't wait for Friday because Friday's were pizza night. That crestfallen look my husband had was replaced with delighted satisfaction. Glee even. We went again the following Saturday. 5 stars

We had very short notice (Less than 16 hours) to order 40+ croissants. Many bakeries declined our order due to short notice, but Yoel at Tartine came through and was able to get our order in. We placed the order around 5PM on a Tuesday for pick up at 8am on Wednesday - which is unheard of! Lovingly, they arranged for us to meet up for dinner Friday night. We had discussed with my cousins before visiting them that my wife wanted to check out two renowned bakeries in the Bay Area, Tartine and Arizmendi. My cousin and her husband graciously and kindly offered to drive us around downtown San Francisco Saturday morning to visit these bakeries and we had such a great time on our personalized Bay Area foodie tour narrated by my well-informed cousin-in-law (CIL). Our first stop on this belly stuffing foodie tour was Tartine, which served one of the yummiest almond croissants I've ever eaten. That pastry alone warrants a visit to this highly rated and highly reviewed bakery. Since our CIL was in the know about The City's downtown eateries and bakeries, he recommended that we start out early to visit Tartine because he said that lines to these places could get crazy long. Thankfully for us, we got to Tartine before it opened and were second in line to enter. Tartine is a well chronicled bakery with locations around the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and Seoul, Korea. The location we visited is on Guerrero and 18th streets in the Mission District and it's across from Pay And Save Grocery. Parking might be challenging with street and metered parking. As soon as you enter the bakery, there's a hipster and local mom and pop business vibe. You're greeted by glass cases displaying beautiful cakes, pastries, breads, loaves, scones, and cookies. There are stool seats and elevated chairs where you can eat on planks of wood either facing the steady flow of customers or looking outside. I liked how there were paintings hanging from what appeared to be from local artists. The staff were friendly and took care of us pretty quickly. Tartine was our first stop in what would be a fun foodie adventure. Since I always start my day with a cup of coffee, I ordered caramel cappuccino. The foam on top had a beautifully designed heart from the barista, but I like my coffee sweet and after my first sip, I knew I had to add some type of sweetener. I used a lot of their complimentary honey to make it sweeter. My wife, who works in the baking industry, had placed Tartine on her list of places she wanted to visit to experience their scones and pastries. If my wife knew about this bakery, then I knew that I'd be indulging in baked goods of the highest caliber. Of course I let my wife pick what she thought were the best items, but I asked the customer who was the first person in line what Tartine was known for and she said their almond croissants, so when it was our turn to make our selections, I asked for Tartine's Frangipane Croissant, which has almond-cream filling and brandy. Brandy?!!?? Honestly, I don't remember tasting any brandy, but what I do remember was flakiness of the croissant, the thick cut almonds on top, the heartiness of the croissant, and the generous amount of almond-cream filling. It was a beautiful looking pastry and the taste was even better. Seriously, one of the most memorable croissants I've ever eaten. My family and I are blessed to have family willing to take time out of their morning to take us on a guided foodie tour to some iconic bakeries and local eateries. Our first bakery stop was Tartine and after eating that delectable almond croissant, the other bakeries would be hard pressed to beat them.

Our cousins were familiar with both bakeries and graciously volunteered to be our foodie guides as we drove to these two bakeries Saturday morning. After visiting Tartine and B Patisserie, Arizmendi was our final bakery and our last stop on our Bay Area foodie tour. Just like the other two bakeries, Arizmendi was a popular destination, it was different than the other two in the selection of the pastries, and I highly recommend their corn cranberry scone and their cheese focaccia. Arizmendi is also located in the Mission District specifically on Valenica and 24th Street. The bakery is in between a Royal gas station and the KitTea Cat Lounge. Parking consists of street parking and just like the other bakeries, parking could be challenging, but Arizmendi is worth the trouble parking and walking to this confectionary paradise. This bakery is a business where their baked goods are enjoyed at home since there is minimal seating. What's unique about this bakery compared to the other two is how the baked goodies are selected. It is self serve where it's a little hectic trying to maneuver around other customers to pick the pastries and breads you desire. The young black lady behind the register who checked us out was courteous, friendly, and took care of us quickly. As you enter Arizmendi, there are four wooden display cases with plexiglass holding scones, cinnamon rolls, muffins, pies, croissants, focaccia, cookies, and shortbreads. As you peer through the plexiglass to decide what to select, make sure to grab the provided wax to pick up your baked goods and place them in the provided bags. One of our friends asked us to grab scones, so scones were one of the items we knew we were going to purchase. My wife selected other items, but I asked her for a focaccia because my cousin said that Arizmendi was know for their pizza breads. I highly recommend you purchase their corn cranberry scones. These scones are hearty, the cranberry is plentiful, and I really enjoyed these while I was drinking a coffee at home. The focaccia I picked was a cheese focaccia made with poblanos, kale, and queso fresco. That square pizza bread was a savory revelation where I devoured that as snack after heating it in our home toaster oven. It was cheesy, the poblanos and kale were tasty, and I completely agreed with my cousin's assessment about their pizza bread. We're so grateful to our cousins for taking valuable time to serve as our foodie tour guides during our trip to San Francisco. Bay Area denizens are blessed to have three bakeries where they can satisfy their pastry, dessert, and bread cravings. We're fans of Arizmendi's scones and pizza bread.

The only downside is that it's not given to you heated. Eating it cold was not optimal. The banana "tart" because I don't recall the exact name, is to die for! It's sweet, it's sooo good! It's like banana crack. It has caramelized parts to it, and you won't want to share it!! The double backed pistachio/blackberry croissant is a food group all its own. It's everything you want in a pastry! The Thai tea was just OK. Super pricey for the amount. It's not that traditional taste profile.
