Cost of their cake toppers , ones they're charging extra $60 for

Cake itself is great. Ordering experience? Disappointing and frustrating. I came in after work on a Wednesday with a reference photo for a custom birthday cake -- a simple white cake with pink borders and bunch of fruit on top. The photo included chinese birthday cake toppers and gold sprinkles. I asked whether they could replicate the overall look (colors and design), and after confirming with the man working in the back, I was told yes multiple times and that it would be ready by Friday evening. I was quoted $120 for an 8" durian chiffon cake. I was informed durian costs more than mixed fruit and that the toppers and decorations were extra. When I asked how much the cake would be without toppers and sprinkles, I was told the price would drop to $52 -- meaning the add-ons were an extra $68. This felt... very disproportionate given how minimal the decorations were; it was five (5) toppers in total and costs just a couple dollars online. The difference of $68 is nearly the cost of TWO regular 8" cakes. I clearly confirmed multiple times that if I removed the toppers and sprinkles, the cake would still have the pink borders and fruit, just simpler. After opting for this version, the man's attitude had changed; He became dismissive and impatient, clearly wanting me to just order and pay. I was told yes and oI chose to pay upon pickup to avoid any confusion, and to make any adjustments if needed. However, the cake I received did not resemble what was discussed. It appeared to be a default design -- a standard white cake with a star-and-moon cake collar. There was no pink cream, no sprinkles, and none of the agreed design elements. This was not the pink-and-white base with fruit that was confirmed multiple times in person on the day of order. While the cake itself was good, the final product did not match what was promised. I had also informed them to contact me if there were any issues with the order. Since this was for a birthday, I had really hoped this would work out -- I would have been a returning customer. Unfortunately, this experience has made me rethink ordering custom cakes here in the future. A shame since the ones posted online are pretty.

My favorite chinese fruit cake spot. Creamy, moist and not too sweet. Perfect for my kids birthday cakes. Customer service is great too. The lady at the counter is nice and easy pick up process.

Thank you A-1 for making this fresh and delicious cake. The design was beautiful and I could not ask for more. I also like to order their fresh bbq pork buns. Mother would ask me to buy them a dozen at a time because that's the only thing she likes to eat for breakfast. She always tells me "A-1 makes the best BBQ pork buns". I also like to order for myself their egg and spam sandwich. It's a good alternative to spam musubis that I can get for me kids. The Spam and egg is unique because they also add a sheet of seaweed and makes the eating experience a lot more fragrant. They also have other delicious pastries like sponge cake and mini hotdog buns and many more. Their milk tea is hot! I also like that their service is always so good! I'm in love with this place!

Love this place! Not much seating inside, but the bakery items are delish and affordable! It's cash only so be warned and I don't think they have an ATM. The service is always quick and they are nice people. It's a great Chinese style bakery out of the huddle and bustle of Chinatown and in a quieter neighborhood. I'm a huge fan of their savory items like their chicken pie, baked bbq pork rolls, and spam/egg bread. Everything is around $2-4 a piece. I always stop by when I'm in the area!!

Let's get real. There's not just one Chinatown in San Francisco. There are at least three, probably more. Clement Street is one 'hood but so is a stretch of Ocean Avenue where there are a bevy of Chinese eateries and bakeries. I like this one because it's not guilty of the excessive chest pumping that the Cherry Blossom Bakery displays at the drop of a hat. This is genuinely one of the better Chinese bakeries on Ocean. It simply doesn't toot its own horn, but frankly they do their job well without all the social media fanfare. Judge for yourself by ordering a Coconut Custard Bun and a Coconut Tart, $1.70 each and both of which were satisfying without being overly sweet (photo: https://bit.ly/47CxWJV). You really can't ask for more than that, can you? BAKED GOODS - 4 stars...well executed tarts AMBIANCE - 4 stars...well, it's a bakery, not really a cafe SERVICE - 4 stars...quietly attentive TOTAL - 4 stars...worth crossing the street from Cherry Blossom RELATED - Exploring the Outer Mission? Egg tarts $1.80ea

Menu has new items and their reasonably priced. Baked food looks fresh. I like the new design and menu. It's conveniently located by the K train and 24hr gym. I've tried their red bean bun and tuna bun and their both decently good. Given the insane prices of eggs these days I'm surprised their egg tarts are priced that low lol. If you are into to-go dim sum you'll like this spot.

Once the bakery opened at 9 AM the line moved fairly fast, but by opening time the line was down two blocks and wrapped around out of sight. We'd heard about B&C lines but even this on a weekday morning was surprising. Overall the pastries were very good, I will say that the savory pastries rank higher here than anywhere else I've been, but the sweet pastries don't. We got the Strawberry Rhubarb Cruffin, Lemon Bluberry Bun, Potato Artichoke Croquiche, Bacon Egg & Cheese, and Sam's Blood Orange Olive Oil Cake. The Croquiche was my favorite of all of them, and it was great warm, with a nice creamy filling. From the sweet pastries, my favorite was the Strawberry Rhubarb Cruffin - the rhubarb taste wasn't very strong but it was overall flaky, not too dry (even when eating it later in the day), and the cinnamon coating also didn't clash with the strawberry, vanilla, and orange. Least favorite was the olive oil cake; it was slightly bitter and the olive oil taste was dominating. These pastries are very large. Split between 2 people 3 of them were enough for us to be so full we saved the rest for later. I also got the Brown Butter Butterscotch Latte (iced), I'm not usually a fan of coffee but it was really good (it's very sweet so as a non-coffee drinker that worked out for me - the syrups overpower the coffee taste). The inside is cute with a pastel pink theme, we were able to snag the two seats by the window. I also liked the merch for sale and got a small print of the storefront. Definitely worth going too once, but due to the line I probably won't return until a monthly menu comes out that has a lot of things I desperately want to try. It's a top 3 bakery in SF for sure.

My favorites are the cheese roll, the chocolate thing and the almond cookie. All of the treats have the perfect balance of sweet and savory. And, they have stuff for breakfast, lunch and maybe even dinner. The customer service is great too. All of the cashers at the front are patient and kind to me when I give bills. They all ask how the day is going, and one gave me $2 off! The bakery is well decorated from the inside and out. They're tiny details like the cute, hand drawn 'Dog Parking' sign, the banners and drawings from other kids, and all of the carefully arranged baked goods. I think that Arizmendi is a part of my life that I will miss as an adult. I hope you enjoy their service as much as I do.

When my wife and I started planning our leisurely drive to San Francisco, we intended to visit two…read morebakeries, Tartine and Arizmendi, with the goal of purchasing scones and other pastries/desserts. Our cousins were familiar with both bakeries and graciously volunteered to be our foodie guides as we drove to these two bakeries Saturday morning. After visiting Tartine and B Patisserie, Arizmendi was our final bakery and our last stop on our Bay Area foodie tour. Just like the other two bakeries, Arizmendi was a popular destination, it was different than the other two in the selection of the pastries, and I highly recommend their corn cranberry scone and their cheese focaccia. Arizmendi is also located in the Mission District specifically on Valenica and 24th Street. The bakery is in between a Royal gas station and the KitTea Cat Lounge. Parking consists of street parking and just like the other bakeries, parking could be challenging, but Arizmendi is worth the trouble parking and walking to this confectionary paradise. This bakery is a business where their baked goods are enjoyed at home since there is minimal seating. What's unique about this bakery compared to the other two is how the baked goodies are selected. It is self serve where it's a little hectic trying to maneuver around other customers to pick the pastries and breads you desire. The young black lady behind the register who checked us out was courteous, friendly, and took care of us quickly. As you enter Arizmendi, there are four wooden display cases with plexiglass holding scones, cinnamon rolls, muffins, pies, croissants, focaccia, cookies, and shortbreads. As you peer through the plexiglass to decide what to select, make sure to grab the provided wax to pick up your baked goods and place them in the provided bags. One of our friends asked us to grab scones, so scones were one of the items we knew we were going to purchase. My wife selected other items, but I asked her for a focaccia because my cousin said that Arizmendi was know for their pizza breads. I highly recommend you purchase their corn cranberry scones. These scones are hearty, the cranberry is plentiful, and I really enjoyed these while I was drinking a coffee at home. The focaccia I picked was a cheese focaccia made with poblanos, kale, and queso fresco. That square pizza bread was a savory revelation where I devoured that as snack after heating it in our home toaster oven. It was cheesy, the poblanos and kale were tasty, and I completely agreed with my cousin's assessment about their pizza bread. We're so grateful to our cousins for taking valuable time to serve as our foodie tour guides during our trip to San Francisco. Bay Area denizens are blessed to have three bakeries where they can satisfy their pastry, dessert, and bread cravings. We're fans of Arizmendi's scones and pizza bread.

The only downside is that it's not given to you heated. Eating it cold was not optimal. The banana "tart" because I don't recall the exact name, is to die for! It's sweet, it's sooo good! It's like banana crack. It has caramelized parts to it, and you won't want to share it!! The double backed pistachio/blackberry croissant is a food group all its own.
