This is one of our go to bakery. My boys love the green onion pancake and the red bean bun. I like the taro and green tea balls. When we are in town, we get our pastries here. This place only takes cash, be sure you have cash. Service is great. There is also a bathroom here. Overall, when I am in town, I come here to get my bake goods.

pinneaple bun

Solid chinese bakery in Richmond, I believe its cash only. Super affordable. My routine is strawberry matcha down the street and then pick up bread here. I've tried a number of items here- raisin, pinneaple, hot dog, custard, red bean black sesame, etc. Everything here has been very good and its fresh. My personal favorites have been pinneaple bun (they have minis as well) and the red bean black sesame.

Overcharged and POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. Accusing me that I bought egg tarts. 2 ham and egg (2.30 x 2 = 4.60) 2 raisin buns (2.20 x 2 = 4.40) 2 pineapple buns for 3.70 2 cocktail buns for 3.70 Total should be $16.40 but they charged $20.80. Didn't realize it til we got home and then I called them and the lady was yelling that I bought egg tarts which I didn't. I told her to check the cameras. Wasted time and gas to drive back to get my $4.40 back and another customer there said they over charge her all the time so now she brings a calculator with her. It's not about the money, it's the principle. They know they overcharge and they do it often. Do you calculate when you buy food or groceries? I know I do but now I will. Do the math before you leave. I will not be coming here again.

Egg tart

Stumbled into Cherry Blossom Bakery while walking around Richmond after lunch. The lady behind the counter was quick, and efficient. And the bakery was bright with natural sunshine from their large windows. They have a bunch of baked goodies on display. Seeing they had egg tarts, I bought a few. Also bought banana rolls, because it's a childhood nostalgic sweet treat. I brought them home and their tarts were still warm! The custard was soft and creamy and the crust was flakey! Like most egg tarts, they weren't too sweet. Though reading other reviews, the tarts are inconsistent. I thought the crust was flakey, while others have said it wasn't flakey. Maybe I got a new batch that just came out of the oven. If it was in the fridge, I would heat it up in the toaster oven for it to taste better. And the banana rolls were also good and chewy and not as sweet as the ones I used to get in Chinatown. I'd rather have it less sweet than too sweet. You get 3 for $4.25. Glad I stopped by and grabbed my favorites! If I'm in the neighborhood again, I'll be sure to get more of these yummy egg tarts and possibly try other pastries. 4/5

I was so sad I only discovered this bakery on my last day here. Came in the AM and everything was freshly baked and you can definitely tell since everything feels light and fluffy and some buns were still warm. My favorites were the pineapple custard bun and BBQ pork bun. I will definitely be back to try more next chance I get! They have a few tables/spots to sit at, but I imagine it'd be hard to get a spot at prime breakfast times. FYI cash only

I've been eating a lot of these pastries recently, but Cherry Blossom Bakery does stand out in service and taste! On a weekday afternoon, my friends and I were welcomed into the bakery and had a wide selection of pasties to choose from. We grabbed almost a dozen pineapple buns with some other miscellaneous pastries, including their BBQ Pork Puff Pastry and Sponge Cake. The BBQ Pork Puff Pastry was flaky and crispy, and the pork filling inside was quite delicious! The Sponge Cake also had a good texture, being light and not too dense. I'd love to try one of their other pastries in the future!

Tucked away in the city, this bakery is a reliable and comforting spot for fresh, traditional Chinese pastries. It's the kind of place that doesn't rely on flash or trendiness. Just solid, consistent quality and a warm, familiar atmosphere. The aunty who runs it is incredibly kind, often chatting with regulars while handling the counter with care. There's a real sense of pride in how the pastries are made and displayed, with everything neatly arranged and looking like it came straight out of a home kitchen that's been doing this for generations. Their strength is in the classics. The soft buns filled with BBQ pork, coconut, custard, and hot dog are done just right. Pillowy, balanced in flavor, and never overly sweet or oily. These are the kinds of baked goods that transport you back to childhood bakery runs. One item that stands out every time is the banana mochi. It has the perfect chewy texture, with a gentle banana flavor that lingers just enough without being overpowering. It's something both me and my brother always look forward to, and it holds up well even after a day if you want to save it for later. Prices here are inexpensive and feel right for what you're getting with their generous portions, well-made pastries, and a bit of nostalgia all rolled into one. Compared to other Chinese bakeries in the city, it's competitive without cutting corners. Street parking is your only option, and while it can take a few minutes, it's rarely a dealbreaker. If you're looking for a spot that does the basics really well and makes you feel at home, this place is worth the stop. Plus there are a bunch of other restaurants and cafes nearby so you can hit a few and do some errands as well.

This bakery has such an assortment of goods. We walked in on a Friday afternoon. The pineapple custard buns were great -- the right amount of filling and crust was tasty. The pork buns tasted a bit old / stale and the inside had too much fat in the interior.

Jennifer T.

Their mooncakes are so yummy! It tasted fresh and softer than the store bought ones. No need for the preservative packets. I've never tried freshly baked mooncakes until now. It definitely tastes much better. It comes with 4 plastic bags to put the mooncakes in if you need to bring it somewhere.

Ham and egg bun
Hope L.

This place has such good buns! I got the mini pork buns and the ham and egg buns. The pork buns were super tasty and filling as they had a pretty good amount of meat. It was a bit doughy but I like that texture! The ham and egg buns was amazing. The egg was so fluffy and soft and melted in my mouth. I do wish there was a bit more ham but overall it was delicious. I would come back!

I typically come here when I am in the area. The lady who greets me has always been friendly, and I like that they make the smaller pork buns. The egg tarts are great because of the flaky crust. Milk tea has a lot of flavor, and it is not the powdered stuff that people use for boba drinks. They have some seats to sit down for those who like to just enjoy their egg tarts over a cup of milk tea while enjoying that bakery smell.

Good customer service, nice place to sit and enjoy bakery/coffee, parking is street parking with meter (I got dropped off). Chill environment

Coconut bow
Richard H.

I recently noticed on my last two visits that the amount of stuffing in their mini pork buns and coconut bow are not as generous as in past visits. Pictured is the coconut bun that was bought at the end of July and will be going elsewhere to purchase these items. Too bad as I used to like this place for these two items.

I could see the balloon that held all of the anticipated excitement my husband had of showing me a "new" spot (it was new to me) all but heartbreakingly deflate. Sigh. Not wanting that crestfallen look to prevail, I told him we'd try again. A hole in the wall that is takeout only, the customarily drab sunset weather doesn't do the vibe any favors out here. When it's overcast & cold outside, does anyone want cold pineapple buns to go with it? That was my first experience, so I was curious about how the do over was going to go. Night & day... Yelpess with the mostess Cherylynn was spot on when she said the buns need to be warm & eaten asap. This is key to experiencing a stellar treat over a humdrum one. On our 2nd visit they were hot. They were pillowy. They were divine. Gloomy sunset weather? It could be RAINING outside & I wouldn't care right now. It was a total 180. Butter. Do it! I suggest you go for the gold, kerrygold Irish butter. Matcha. I love matcha so it's an automatic order but it's a definite winner. Not too sweet, because matcha isn't naturally sweet. Custard. Hubby's favorite. He's a vanilla head, so... Salted egg yolk. Hubby's other favorite. I like, he loves. Ube. WOW. Better than the matcha which is weird coming from me. The Ube filling BAKES INTO the interior & it is amazing! I wished I'd gotten 6 of these. The puffs. How friggin adorable. Just throw in 6 puffs. Or 18. Then dip them in the side of custard that comes with. If you get extra to take home (& you should), all you have to do is be sure to reheat them as per the directions on the box. Just place them on a baking sheet lined with foil, or an oven rack (I've done both, both work), at 325 for around 10 minutes. I think 12-15 minutes is actually ideal. I couldn't believe how soft they were after this. Like new! The next day, after being refrigerated all night! I know weird, but fact! A couple of days later I requested that we go again next Saturday. Like when you were a kid & you couldn't wait for Friday because Friday's were pizza night. That crestfallen look my husband had was replaced with delighted satisfaction. Glee even. We went again the following Saturday. 5 stars

My favorites are the cheese roll, the chocolate thing and the almond cookie. All of the treats have the perfect balance of sweet and savory. And, they have stuff for breakfast, lunch and maybe even dinner. The customer service is great too. All of the cashers at the front are patient and kind to me when I give bills. They all ask how the day is going, and one gave me $2 off! The bakery is well decorated from the inside and out. They're tiny details like the cute, hand drawn 'Dog Parking' sign, the banners and drawings from other kids, and all of the carefully arranged baked goods. I think that Arizmendi is a part of my life that I will miss as an adult. I hope you enjoy their service as much as I do.

When my wife and I started planning our leisurely drive to San Francisco, we intended to visit two…read morebakeries, Tartine and Arizmendi, with the goal of purchasing scones and other pastries/desserts. Our cousins were familiar with both bakeries and graciously volunteered to be our foodie guides as we drove to these two bakeries Saturday morning. After visiting Tartine and B Patisserie, Arizmendi was our final bakery and our last stop on our Bay Area foodie tour. Just like the other two bakeries, Arizmendi was a popular destination, it was different than the other two in the selection of the pastries, and I highly recommend their corn cranberry scone and their cheese focaccia. Arizmendi is also located in the Mission District specifically on Valenica and 24th Street. The bakery is in between a Royal gas station and the KitTea Cat Lounge. Parking consists of street parking and just like the other bakeries, parking could be challenging, but Arizmendi is worth the trouble parking and walking to this confectionary paradise. This bakery is a business where their baked goods are enjoyed at home since there is minimal seating. What's unique about this bakery compared to the other two is how the baked goodies are selected. It is self serve where it's a little hectic trying to maneuver around other customers to pick the pastries and breads you desire. The young black lady behind the register who checked us out was courteous, friendly, and took care of us quickly. As you enter Arizmendi, there are four wooden display cases with plexiglass holding scones, cinnamon rolls, muffins, pies, croissants, focaccia, cookies, and shortbreads. As you peer through the plexiglass to decide what to select, make sure to grab the provided wax to pick up your baked goods and place them in the provided bags. One of our friends asked us to grab scones, so scones were one of the items we knew we were going to purchase. My wife selected other items, but I asked her for a focaccia because my cousin said that Arizmendi was know for their pizza breads. I highly recommend you purchase their corn cranberry scones. These scones are hearty, the cranberry is plentiful, and I really enjoyed these while I was drinking a coffee at home. The focaccia I picked was a cheese focaccia made with poblanos, kale, and queso fresco. That square pizza bread was a savory revelation where I devoured that as snack after heating it in our home toaster oven. It was cheesy, the poblanos and kale were tasty, and I completely agreed with my cousin's assessment about their pizza bread. We're so grateful to our cousins for taking valuable time to serve as our foodie tour guides during our trip to San Francisco. Bay Area denizens are blessed to have three bakeries where they can satisfy their pastry, dessert, and bread cravings. We're fans of Arizmendi's scones and pizza bread.

The only downside is that it's not given to you heated. Eating it cold was not optimal. The banana "tart" because I don't recall the exact name, is to die for! It's sweet, it's sooo good! It's like banana crack. It has caramelized parts to it, and you won't want to share it!! The double backed pistachio/blackberry croissant is a food group all its own.
