I always buy the shuku pan to make sandwiches my daily lunches and the country bread/sourdough for my avocado toast and breakfasts. The sandwiches made in-house are also recommended especially the chicken katsu and the assorted ham/tuna/egg salad. I like the croquette and egg salad in a bun especially. All of these are savory and flavorful yet subtle. I also recommend any of the pastries including curry pan, melon pan, and of course the strawberry croissants but beyond that I also really like the strawberry banana croissant and blueberry croissant. There is also a selection of drinks made in-house café-style as well as bottled Japanese drinks. The staff are friendly and I really like the space even though it's small. You can find seating outside especially if you avoid rush hours. Of all the three locations, this one is my favorite because it's so rustic and historic and really fits in with the overall vibe and aesthetic of Old Town Tustin and the El Camino Real. There is a kiosk available from 9:30 to 5 pm, where you can now order and pay for their katsu items. I believe the Chicken Katsu Curry was around $17.99. You need to show the receipt when they call your name. I also picked up a couple of sandwiches. The Tuna Butter Roll hits the spot for a quick, comforting lunch. It is packed with creamy tuna, cucumber, and tomato slices--at just around $3.50, it's an incredible value. The Sandwich Box assortment (egg, ham, turkey, tuna) gives you a little bit of everything, making it perfect for a satisfying light lunch on the go. The foam was like a salted caramel, which clashed with the lavender's liquid portion of the drink. There were a lot of lavender petals on top, which looked nice, but were bitter to taste. The latte portion actually tasted ok after I grabbed a straw so that I could drink it without the foam, but the foam and toppings just really threw the drink off. For $7, I expect harmonious flavors as well as an aesthetic look. I'd definitely bring my kid back for another Tots event, but I'd not get the lavender latte again.

As we entered, we were gifted the pleasure of a warm greeting by a staff member who then sat us down and gave us first-timers a brief overview of the menu, his recommendations, and a brief history lesson about the origin of Fluffy Fluffy. After some waiting, we were presented with three aesthetically pleasing plates of these highly hyped fluffy pancakes. I then grabbed a knife and fork to cut into the stack of pancakes and was astonished by how... for a lack of better word, fluffy they were. Upon first bite, I expected a rush of sugar to register after a few seconds of chewing. However, that sensation never came. The pancakes were just the right level of sweet. A few minutes later, the plates were completely cleared and I was back to suffering from again reaching full capacity and thought to myself, "when will I ever learn?". All in all, great hospitality from staff, clean and upbeat ambiance, and most importantly excellent dessert items that were easy to consume without the feeling of developing instantaneous diabetes after finishing. I stopped to try their matcha dessert along with a Hong Kong egg waffle, and both really hit the spot. The matcha latte was not overly sweet, with that slightly bitter, earthy taste you want from good matcha. That said, the Thai Ice tea is good but desserts feel a bit watered down compared to what I remembered. The base prices seem reasonable at first, but once you start adding toppings or upgrades, the total climbs quickly and can be a little shocking at checkout. The HK matcha egg waffle was fresh, warm, and had that perfect contrast: crispy on the outside and soft and airy on the inside. It's a simple item, but when done right like this, it's super satisfying. Honestly, it pairs really well with the matcha desserts. There a several tables to enjoy your teas.

Usually parking here isn't too bad if you're staying for less than an hour and easy to walk over to the dessert shop. Baked Banhs is located in the 4th street food market, one of the first shops you'll see if you're coming from the parking lot. Note the hours before you come (for instance, they're closed on Sundays and Mondays). And note that they seem to usually sell out of certain items by the days end. We've tried a number of different items here now including four of their canelés and their basque cheesecake. The cheesecake was solid. But we really loved their canelés. They are soft/moist on the inside with a nice crunch. And the different flavors really come through. Our favorite is the black sesame - not only is there black sesame peppered on the top but also in the center with a nice black sesame cream. It's so good and delicious. Four canelés cost $16 and thought they were well worth the price. Again, it's so sad to hear that Baked Banhs is closing soon so if you're a fan of canelés or other desserts, recommended to come sooner than later to try this out! We really hope they reopen again elsewhere or do a lot of pop-ups soon.

We shared the kunafa with baklava crunch ice cream on top. Wow. Heaven. Warm, crispy, stretchy, with cold ice cream melting into the pastry. I also had a scoop of strawberry ice cream too, which is not a sentence I expected to write about myself this weekend. I only ever touch ice cream when I need it as an offering to calm a certain someone down when she, umm, never mind...back to the pleasant day... The lady running the place was amazing.
