I never knew about this excellent place until my clients from Egypt found it and we went in for a late lunch or early dinner. Very glad they requested it, the discovery of such delicious food when very hungry on a miserably hot day is a good thing. A friendly and thoughtful staff is a big plus too. I typically love Greek food and the food here actually tasted quite good. Well only after 2 hours of consuming the chicken shawarma I began feeling super nauseas. I began vomiting and having severe stomach pains and was rushed to the clinic. I had severe food poisoning, this lasted for roughly 40 hours and wouldn't wish it in my worst enemy. LVery nice people, quick service, fresh salad, and VERY expensive for what is essentially a sandwich shop. We ordered falafel salad, 4 meat pies (lamb et al), 4 spinach pies, tabouli, hummus, and chicken shawarma ($85!). Shwarma was simply chicken sautéed on flat grill (???) rather than copiously seasoned chicken stacked on a spinning spit slow roasting deliciously with a tomato dripping juice from the top - so not really shawarma. More accurately a sautéed chicken sandwich. The tomb (garlic spread), hummus, and tabouli were all pretty good. The tabouli was bulgar wheat optional, which was cool. The falafel was pretty tasteless, appearing to be a pre-packaged frozen item. I have never seen anywhere have falafel frozen. Typically they have the mix at the ready and scoop it fresh into the fire creating a crispy, tasty, delicious treat. In comparison, this falafel was bland, served soggy (also due to being slathered in watery tahina sauce), and comparatively inedible. The salad needed sumac. The tahina sauce was watery and surprisingly bland. The meat pies were also frozen. The spinach was still frozen in the middle when it was served. The meat was forgetable. Apart from the lack of rich, aromatic Mediterranean seasoning, the food here lacked facility for proper fresh preparation. I would not recommend this restaurant - but then again we live in south Florida with kosher and/or halal restaurants aplenty. St Augustine is a beautiful city with fewer ethnic options. While the tzatiki sauce is homemade and delicious the gyro meat is not which brings down the star rating...the pita was a little thicker then I've had before, but it was soft and actually a nice change...the gyro meat was first microwaved (which leads me to believe it was frozen...there were no skewers in sight for it being freshly sliced off) then thrown onto a flat top. The meat did taste good enough, but there wasn't enough of it either...coming from long island I am spoiled by gyros where the meat is literally falling out of the pita along with the lettuce, tomato, and onion...this was not the case. I did asked for the sauce on the side which I recommend especially for take out, otherwise you'll end up with a very soggy pita. There was also this slightly strange bitter aftertaste from the lettuce, tomato, and onion...cilantro? Couldn't put my finger on it, but was too overpowering and ruined some of the bites...The grape leaves (aka dolmades) were pretty tasty. I'm sure many things are made in house and are quite delicious, but if you're not cutting the gyro meat fresh for me it's kind of a no no...they do have good customer service though...the ladies who helped me were very sweet...so 3 stars for good service and tasty items made fresh in house... read more

Super cute, family-owned little spot with delicious chicken shwarma, gyros, and more. I highly recommend stopping by this place for a quick, affordable, tasty lunch. They even have a small section of Middle Eastern grocery items near the front, along with homemade desserts and some unique drink options. The French fries weren't to-die for, but they aren't really supposed to be the star of the show anyway. The owner is also the person that cooks your food and you can tell she does it with love. How did I forget to review Falafel Queen? My apologizes. I came here with my husband and son one afternoon to check it out. We came in and were immediately greeted by two women. They were very friendly and warm. It's a cozy place with a few tables. We watched as she helped the customer there before us and looked over the menu. My other half was happy to see she offered cauliflower and when my son spotted her kibbie comes in pie form, he had to have it. (Our aunt makes hers this way and so he is very fond of it.) We ordered the grilled chicken over rice, ground beef in pita, hummus and tabbouleh and a shawarma wrap. We also grabbed some fruit juices from the cooler that were Jamaican. I have to say they were very unique and quite tasty too. She whipped up our order making sure to hand over the plates as soon as she finished. Upon talking to them, we found the other woman in the kitchen was her sister visiting. She was busy making cookies. She shared a few with us as well. The owner's son came in just as she was bringing the cookies to a table and he happily got some to bring to us as well. The food was very good and well prepared. We loved everything we ordered. The portions are just right. Flavors are spot on and everything was perfect. The ladies made the experience even better. I felt like sitting in the family kitchen as she talked with us while making food. I look forward to coming again. read more

Myself and two friends had lunch here recently, and what a nice find this place was. It's a small place and in a strip mall but don't let that deter you from visiting. The owner was such a classy lady, she makes it feel like your eating at home with her. I've spent sometime in the Middle East and love good samoon and hummus. We had the Kufta plate, it was good, too much food for the price really. So go there, grab your drink, snack on some pita, then get a great deal of a meal! Falafel Queen - Falafel Near Me - Saint Augustine, Florida

I have seen the sign in passing several times and always quietly considered it while driving, recognizing the cypress tree as an indication of Lebanese ancestry and cuisine. On a whim the lady and I decided to go there, about an hour before closing (dick move I know, but I asked Eva the owner if she would tolerate my intrusion). I've had Lebanese food in New York (there is a lot of it in my northern homeland) but had only ever once before Falafel Queen seen one in Florida. Explaining the basics of Lebanese food to the woman we made ourselves at home. I ordered a combination platter for the measly price of $14. What I asked for and received, after some haggling, was the most delicious kafta I have ever had, pita, a generous mound of hummus sprinkled with paprika, a heaping mountain of tabouli, falafel and chicken on a bed of rice and mixed vegetables. Your mileage may vary, I am quite good at smoozing my way into trying various things, and I have a feeling she was trying to "Get rid" of some things before closing up. Regardless, I also scammed my way into a cup of tzatziki sauce to accompany, well, everything. The more yogurt the better of course! SO damn good! And especially at the value offered. My woman got a falafel pita sandwich and could barely finish it (it was large). We both absolutely loved the falafel, but the true star of the meal was the kafta. We liked it so much we went back the next day and tried to get it as a whole meal but were sadly informed that the owner had run out of her daily supply (1st world problems). Falafel Queen has an open kitchen and has very much the feel of a New England style deli - there are some basic tables and chairs, and a book case of various Lebanese culinary ingredients to buy, if you're into that sort of thing. In other words: don't expect fine dining here, or a romantic out. That being said we were absolutely charmed by the environment of the shop. Eva the owner is extremely sassy and sardonic - and she had two sidekicks with her. Her teenage or 20 something son with Down syndrome eagerly greets those who come in, and quickly attends the needs of the diners; he is the man! She also has her sous chef, a young black girl who had her son in a stroller in the restaurant and helped clarify my inane blathering and persistent requests to get more stuff added to the platter, all with a contagious smile. Altogether a great time and we have gone back twice so far - it will likely become a familiar stop of ours in honor to one of the hidden gems of the Old City. read more

I'm very disappointed with the owner and how she spoke to my son who is 10years old he was with his dad door dashing and they went to pick up an order and she felt she needed to voice her opinion on why my son was out of school and door dashing with his father she than proceeded to tell my son (what your father can't handle the order on his own) this is first off very unprofessional to say to a 10 year old let alone in a restaurant full of customers what we choose to do with our children is none of your business nor do you know the situation on why my child wasn't in school hence none of your business as a mother you should have known better and as a local restaurant owner you need to do better. read more

Very fresh food! (For the most part!) A great place to eat if your hungry for middle eastern food in St. Augustine. And the staff is very friendly too. Had the falafel sandwich, a fried cauliflower sandwich special, grape leaves, fries, and a Sweet Leaf Iced Tea from the cooler. First off, props for having Sweet Leaf! Organic Iced Tea with superior flavors. The sandwiches are served on thin pocket pita bread and rolled up. I don't think the bread is made in house, but everything else was extremely fresh. Probably the freshest tasting falafel that I didn't make. They were fried crisp, with ROMAINE lettuce, and I think tomatoes. And the hint of fresh mint was a nice touch. Not sure if there were pickles, but I didn't miss them. The tahini was a little thin, but still good and actually made for a lighter sandwich. I felt like it could have used an extra falafel ball...and next time I will order extra tahini. The Fried Cauliflower Sandwich included sauteed vegetables (perfectly sauteed btw including zucchini), fried cauliflower, and ALOT of garlic. Too much garlic that wasn't cooked properly and/or wasn't fresh garlic. It tasted like the chopped garlic you get from a jar and it could have been sauteed better because it overpowered the sandwich. HOWEVER the rest of the sandwich was so well executed that it was still a damn good sandwich. Use fresh garlic and saute it properly and this sandwich would be brilliant! The grape leaves seemed standard, but tasted a little better than normal. Most places get their grape leaves from a can, which I still enjoy and understand because grape leaves are very time consuming. Fries were good, however not as perfectly crispy as you would like, but pretty close. Oh, also had a bourma (birds nest) baklava. Pretty sure not made in house, but 99% of places don't make their own. Still I love bourma, it is sweet and sticky shredded wheat with pistachios. Hard to describe, but get one for dessert if you have room. Staff is great, super friendly. Probably will be my go to in St. Augustine. read more

I found the best falafels ever! My friend Gail told me about this place and said, "You will love it!" She was so correct. Ava is the owner/cook and she works hard to make sure you enjoy her food. I have been taking carry out also for "later" at the house. The hummus is tasty also. I have been going there for about a year now and each time I eat there, I realize how much I crave it. They also do catering and we have thought about using them for a party. She will create food that will make your guests happy they came! Extremely disappointed with Falafel Queen. The ladies were very nice, but they were not wearing gloves while preparing my wrap. One of the ladies sons, who had Down's syndrome, kept going behind the counter and messing with the food without gloves on as well.
