I cannot say enough about the amazing customer service, professionalism, efficiency and kindness the entire team at the Fairmont adhere to. I have stayed with them on multiple occasions and they absolutely go above and beyond for their guests. From the concierge to corporate services they exemplify excellent customer service. The bartenders and servers always remember you and treat you like you are their only customer. We have a corporate rate with the Fairmont so that visiting surgeons and patients can stay there. Every time they stay, they cannot say enough about the Fairmont. The rooms are always spotless and the housekeeping service will cater to anything you may need. Fairmont team, you are the best and are greatly appreciated! read more

All in all, I had a great stay at the hotel. I stayed for New Years Eve and they offered a jazz band in the lobby and well as some bar specials. The hotel was very modern and upscale. Although, my boyfriend and I did run into some negatives. The first, my boyfriend called to make reservations prior to arriving. He specifically asked for a room with a balcony and told that we were able to reserve one. When we got to our room, there was no balcony. He called down to ask the front desk about the "mistake." They were very kind and found a room with a balcony right away for us. The second, the valet is $50-$60 per night. While I'm fine with paying that, we were never told the price. Third, the deposit was charged to my bank account. I'm fine with that, but one front desk associate told me the money would be back in my account in one day. Of course, that's not what happened. I didn't receive the money so I called the hotel. I was informed by another associate it takes 3-5 business days. I think all associates should be knowledgeable on the correct information! Although we're experienced some negatives, our room was great and comfortable. We may return in the future now that we know about the valet price & deposit. read more

We recently stayed here two nights, the hotel itself was very nice but we encountered a couple things that would make me reconsider staying there again. First we woke up each morning to drilling and/or hammering at 9am. I'm honestly not sure where it was coming from around us (adjacent room? room above? below?) It would without fail start each morning around that time, we noticed that they were doing construction in the lobby but we were on the fourth floor so I don't believe that it would reach us? Either way, it was annoying and difficult to enjoy our breakfast while the walls were vibrating. Second, the parking was very expensive - it was around $60-70 a night. We had in and out but I didn't want to bother. The food was good at the hotel, but we had driven about 8 hours to get there and I did not notice that they already added 20% gratuity to our bill, the gentleman who delivered our food the first night basically got a 40% tip. Honestly I felt a bit salty about that. All-in-all, it was okay but the total cost did not match what we experienced. I was a bit disappointed that this hotel did not live up to the Fairmont name. read more

This property is beautiful and so close to Georgetown. Quick weekend getaway even if it's close to home, it's worth it. The room was pristine and the courtyard is beautiful. We were are able to walk to the shops from here. All precautions were taken upon arrival. Juniper is on our list next. read more

This is the second Fairmont hotel I've visited - first one being the Fairmont Orchid in Hawaii - and my experience was (once again) underwhelming. The rooms are large, but they are outdated. Furthermore, the hotel's vibe is pretty stuffy. It's also absolutely absurd they charge $14 for internet; however, you can get this waived if you sign up for their rewards program. I would stay here again, but only if I got a good deal. Otherwise, I would recommend spending your money elsewhere. read more

Past weekend I enjoyed staying at Fairmont. The location is great, quick ride to the downtown and Georgetown area. I really liked the inside renovation was down recently. The Christmas decoration was very unique and beautiful. I really enjoyed hanging out the lobby area. The room was very clean and bed sheets were very soft. The TV was big and offered free entertainment. I would defiantly go back and stay there another time. read more

I don't usually review hotels and I stay in a lot of them but this place is wonderful. Comfortable bed, clean, fluffy towels, comfortable room, good staff. Luxurious is the word. Beautiful courtyard out back. I can go on and on. You will not be disappointed. Thanks to the hotel owners, management, and staff for an exceptional night read more

Third time trying this hotel and each time seems like something is amiss. This time it was the AC. It shut off each night in the middle of the night and got up to 75 degrees. Not what I'd expect for a four star. read more

Was here for a conference. Great service including a very knowledgeable concierge. Enjoyed the extra space in the junior suite. Lovely atrium and overall a wonderful stay. I just finished a 9 night stay at the Fairmont, and was favorably impressed with it, at least for business travel. The most important thing to me when I travel is quiet in the room at night. This place has good soundproofing, and it was much quieter than most places. Noise from the corridor started to pick up around 6:30 when the early-risers left for the day (and let their doors slam--thanks, guys), but there was zero car noise, TV-in-the-next-room noise, etc. This sounds like something you would get in any business hotel, but, in my experience, it is not something to take for granted. The room service was efficient and good, with the hot food actually hot and nicely prepared. The concierge was helpful, and the bellmen are quick to get you a cab. The fitness center in this place is a full-on gym, with TV monitors on all of the treadmills, bikes and ellipticals. It is free if you join their "president's club," or $10 a day if you do not. This Fairmont is only a block from a 24 hour CVS drugstore, and a block from the District's only Trader Joe's. It is walking distance to scores of restaurants, and the Foggy Bottom Metro station is 2 1/2 blocks away. 2 tips: 1) Search for a good price for this place (and lots of others like it) on www.fivestaralliance.com Rates vary seasonally, but I got a $229/nt rate there, and my friend just got a $189/nt rate for a couple weeks from now. 2) If you go here or any other Fairmont property, join their president's club. It is free to join, and you get a bunch of free perks at the hotels, including free wireless internet (otherwise it costs $12.95/day), free health club use (otherwise $10/day), and free local calls (otherwise $1 each). Look on the Fairmont website for the application. read more

Not a bad hotel by any stretch. Nice sized room, great staff and service....so why the two stars you ask?? let's see...$14 for wi-fi use in the lobby and $14 for high speed in your room. ok, I can live with that......oh wait......you want to work out....please cough up $15 for our 17,000 square foot gym. nice gym, but come on dude, its a hotel. You can join the presidents club beforehand and get all that for free, but damn you if you try to join as you get there or you will be stuck paying the bill...I called the 800#, joined and told them I had not checked in yet.HA take that you bastards!!! read more

We got snowed in at the Fairmont this weekend. 30 inches of snow meant that instead of museums we saw a lot of our hotel room, which thanks to the Fairmont was pretty great. Parking: Due to the $40/day valet, we parked our rental car at the $20/day parking lot at the Westin across the street. Made for some uncomfortable walks through the Westin lobby but was otherwise worth it, since we didn't move the car all weekended. Check in fine, but I ended up really frustrated while my boyfriend checked in at the President's Club desk because FOUR people asked me if I needed help and I think a fifth would have if I hadn't glared at him. No, believe it or not I'm actually with the man standing next to me checking us both in. Not the end of the world, but since the thing I hate the most about being a homo checking in at a hotel is getting the look when they try to give you two full beds and you have to assert yourself for the one king, well, I wasn't pleased. Sorry if that sentence was long, trying to cram the concept in. The lobby was quite nice. They had a good mix between traditional brocade-encrusted pieces and nice matte leather benches. And a few flatscreens. The room was just great. Had a great bed, great shower. Had a desk with two comfy chairs for when both of us were internetting, and a big armchair with a footstool for reading. I sort of wanted to take the armchair home. Plus none of the folks in the apartment block across the street ever closed their windows... awkward but amusing. Room service was sort of slow, but the guy who brought it up was so polite I couldn't say anything to him. After being let down by the Hudson Restaurant & Lounge, we had brunch here on Sunday too. I didn't use the gym, but my +1 did and said the set up was alright. Staff in general were quite nice. In short, I'd stay again. read more

Currently staying at the Fairmont in DC. The good: Rooms are clean and well maintained. The hotel is overall very presentable. The staff have been friendly enough. Good gift shop in hotel. Excellent location! The bad: The pool is located in their gym and offer very limited opportunity recreational use. Not many options on the TV. The ugly: wifi is not free! Hardly anything is more tacky to me than a hotel that seems prestigious, yet is petty enough to charge for wifi. I refuse to pay for wifi and am using my 4G cell phone instead. This is 2016. read more

The Fairmont is a great place to stay! I travel from California and I always love staying here. The staff is friendly, restaurants and shops are within walking distance, the gym is awesome and I can go on the running trails close by. Torn between four and five stars, I've decided to round up. This hotel isn't perfect, but it's pretty darn good! My room is spacious and impeccably appointed. I'm on the eighth floor but still get plenty of sound from the outdoors through the thick windows, which are closed. (We're near the GWU hospital, which might be part of the problem.) At night, I noticed lots of light coming in through the window and hard to close the dark shades, which I generally prefer not to do. I'm a member of the Fairmont President's Club, which I joined by filling out a web form long ago. The only "price" that I pay for this is that I got occasional email from fairmont offering me special rates at Fairmonts that I don't have any desire to visit. Members get special upgrade and other discount coupons along with the free wireless. Members get newspapers delivered to their door every morning. What's not to like? At many Fairmonts, the health club is "free" to hotel guests after they have been assessed their obligatory resort fee. I don't know if I'm about to be charged a resort fee, but I've seen no evidence of one. The fitness center at this Fairmont costs $15/day, but it's free to President's Club members, as other yelpers have pointed out. So I'm happy to be a member. And guess what? The fitness center is great! There are lots of aerobic machines, strength-building machines, free weights and a good-looking small pool. The men's locker room is beautiful, large and inviting. The one downside is that you can't use the fitness equipment when the club isn't open. When I arrived at the hotel late on a Saturday evening, I was eager to use the fitness center -- no go! I went to a meeting in the basement, a.k.a. the ballroom level. We had a buffet breakfast that was catered by the Fairmont. It was ok but not at the 5-star level. One of my co-conspirators grumbled about the scrambled egg whites that we were offered, saying they she thought they tasted bad. My opinion is that the breakfast was A-OK, which means that I would give it three stars. Everything else was close to the 5-star level, so I'll stand pat with my rating. read more

Very nice hotel; maybe best value in DC. I'd say it's 75% of the Four Seasons at 1/4 to 1/3 the price. Bed and linens are nice and room is spacious. My first complaint - painfully slow internet. I'm using the premium internet access and its similar to airplane Internet access years ago. Better than nothing but not by much. Second complaint - two staff entered the room without knocking. One housekeeping staff and one minibar staff. Pretty weird. read more

Lovely hotel! I stayed here for a conference, and found the room to be extremely comfortable. The staff is very friendly, including great bar staff at the hotel bar downstairs. Good food, comfortable stay, great bar-- what more can you ask for? read more

I love this hotel, and this property is better than both the Ritz and the Four Seasons, yet lives in their shadows. That needs to change. The service is great, the location is great, the space is very nice, relaxing, etc. The gym I like much better than the gym at the Ritz - not that I use my membership much. They seem to have revamped the menu since I first tried it, or gotten a new chef. We are left with very good food, and an extensive menu that even includes raw dishes. That's pretty progressive for DC, a backwater town. I also gotta give a shout-out to the homemade nut/trail mix at the bar. It is delicious and uses bees from their own population on the roof of the hotel. Lastly, the Fairmont owns The Plaza, so naturally they know what they're doing. Anyway, stop by. I hold office hours here from 3-4 almost daily :) My days at the Four Seasons are a thing of the past. Oh man, that sounds bad - I hold office hours in the bar area almost daily, I should say. ps. Cappuccinos are first rate. They brew Illy. 4/5/12 - Another great meal at the Fairmont. Totally sold on this hotel chain. Spring menu is out, stop by. Had a delicious black bean and quinoa burger, and fresh baked chocolate chip cookies for dessert! read more

While I didn't stay at this hotel, I did enjoy drinks in the magnificent atrium bar area, which is a sunlit floral urban oasis with a living room in the style of a French decorative salon. Definitely a great place to stop in and get your sophisticated drink on. Also, the business center downstairs is fantastic. There's a full time employee stationed there and printing, scanning and emailing documents back to my office was a cinch, though I should point out that there was no notary there. (As a side note, whenever I need a notary I find that most banks have them, and don't charge much if anything for their use). read more

We had stayed at the Fairmont in San Francisco and loved it. When we were planning our trip to DC, there was no question where we wanted to stay. Unfortunately, it wasn't the same experience as in San Fran. We were told twice by Jerome that our card was declined (the front desk has the personality of a door and didn't even attempt to make this a welcoming experience). After calling Ex, they stated that they had approved this transaction! Next was the bar service. The read-headed guy was not the friendliest. He even told me that he was sorry he was slow, but he had gotten "slammed" right when my party got there (by the way, there were 4 other people there! "Slammed" wouldn't be my choice of words. For what you pay (and the name recognition), I expected more. When I checked out, not one time was I asked if my stay was pleasant! I would not stay here again. read more

First time staying at a Fairmont and not impressed. The entire hotel reeks of the Le Labo Rose scent - sucks if you aren't a fan. There were recurring problems with our room (Ambassador Suite #501) during our two-night stay: 1. no shower products in room. I had to call to get them delivered in a hair-dryer bag. 2. ice bucket was not clean but had melted ice in there from the previous tenant. 3. mini bar was broken and all the drinks were room temperature 4. two out of six bulbs in the floor lamps were unscrewed 5. despite having a back-to-back reservation, i was told to switch rooms. it took about an hour of phone calls and face-to-face conversation with an unfriendly front desk person to resolve. 6. the business center charges for internet use and printing. I went to the neighboring Hilton Garden Inn to print out two museum tickets for free instead of being charged $10. 7. the bedroom door in our suite was broken and wouldn't close There's a sign in the closet saying the room rate for my suite was $4000. I would not pay over $150 to stay there again. read more

I was a bit confused to learn that the Fairmont made the T+L 500 this year...Not that it's a bad hotel, I just think there are plenty of other hotels in the area that out-do the Fairmont on many levels. I held a 25 person meeting with a room block here for work a couple of months ago, so I'll lend opinions both as an event planner and as a guest. I just wasn't as impressed with the place as much as T+L seemed to have been. The hotel is located in West End, so you pretty much have the luxury of being able to walk to Georgetown/Foggy Bottom. Getting to the rest of NW DC from here is pretty easy. Upon checking-in, I was very impressed with the staff at the front end. The bell hop, valet, and especially the front desk clerk were extremely friendly, helpful and professional. Somehow, they all knew my name before I gave it to them or checked in. Here's a tip on the fees for the wi-fi and gym fees: sign up for the Fairmont President's Club (it's free) on their website before you check in, and you bypass all of these costs. Those greenhouse/atrium style glass floor-to-ceiling style glass windows next to the lobby need a re-do. The windows are either molding, peeling, or the metal frames are leaking something onto the glass. I couldn't stop looking at them and it was totally not in keeping with the condition of the rest of the hotel. Guest rooms were recently renovated, modern and spacious (I much appreciated being put up in one of the suites) but not in keeping with the classic style of the rest of the hotel. The courtyard was nice, but I think it's seen better days. The landscaping in the courtyard could use some recent TLC. In the end, my meeting went fine despite my initial scare with the sales/catering departments. Both my catering and sales managers were lovely girls, I just wish they could have been a bit more accommodating. We are used to dealing with the Marriotts and Hyatts who are able to provide us finicky meeting planners with 24-hour bend-over-backwards service. F&B is pricey (not that you wouldn'tve expected it), especially for the amount of food you get. read more

Just stayed here for July 4th weekend and LOVED it!!! Hotel is beautiful and rooms are spacious and clean. Great location with most things within walking distance. Bed is sooo comfortable. Bathroom feels really luxurious. Did not hear outside noise or other guests from our room. There were a couple small hiccups - like the check in desk being unable to find our reservation for an hour which was a waste of time. Finally they found the reservation. Also, the valet tickets got messed up and they kept bringing us the wrong car. Lastly, housekeeping knocked on our door early (around 8:30am) and again the next day around 9am when we had put out the "privacy please" sign on the door. Other than that, it was practically perfect. The staff was excellent - very friendly and extremely helpful!! Everything was spotless and super clean which is very very very important to us. I don't necessarily need a fancy hotel (although this one is gorgeous) - but I do insist on clean hotels - and this one was excellent! We will always return to the Fairmont anytime we are in DC. I highly recommend this hotel!! One extra perk is the 1pm check out time - the best! read more

Beautiful Hotel in the Fairmont Tradition I stayed at the Fairmont Washington D.C. this past week for a meeting. Located close to many common tourist and business destinations, it's is quite convenient. The lobby was beautifully appointed as were the rooms. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and very modern but also with classic decor. The bathroom had all the amenities that one would need. The bed was quite spacious but a bit too soft for my tastes. I checked in around 11:30AM and my room was not ready. That was no big deal. I simply checked in, gave them my credit card, and asked that they bring my bag up to my room. I then went to my meeting. I was told all I would need to do was grab my key when I came back later. I came back from my meeting later that evening to find out that I had to check in all over again and grab my bag from the luggage check, Not horrible but not as efficient as I would have hoped especially after arriving tired and ready for bed from my meeting. All in all, though, it's a great hotel. read more

I really didn't want to give any stars, however the ability to review is not available if I do so. My wife and I planned a weekend get away for my birthday and booked a room so we can enjoy the Georgetown experience. From the moment we arrived we were treated like bottom feeders. The valet immediately redirected me, so they could first ensure that I was in the right place, advised me that I have to make reservations, and repeat several times that valet parking is $56 dollars per night. We expressed our encounter with the front desk. To try to appease us, the hotel upgraded our room to a King Suite. The suite's lighting was poor and had no balcony, which our original room had. In the spirit our an romantic get away we requested to get our original room for a more personal feel. The room we originally book was not available and we waited 3 hours from the original check-in time. After our experience from the first day we decided to end on a good note and enjoy the breakfast we added on to our bill. Once we arrived to the dinning area the hostess told us that we had not added breakfast to our bill, which was incorrect. Again we had to go back to the front desk to correct errors made on behalf of the staff. Finally we were seated and my wife requested to sit next to the widow and the hostess looked at us as if we were undeserving. The only staff member to treat us as guest was our waitress, Ms. Hanh. The food was yet another disappointment and our appetites were ruined when my wife's bagel was covered in mold and her omelette had hair in it. This experience was terrible, a complete waste of money and time. The Fairmont is far from a luxury hotel. From online pictures you can easily be misled, after seeing dust an fingerprints on furniture and fixtures of both the suite and our original rooms it proves otherwise. read more

With friends and family in DC, I get down there often. Always assured of a top notch experience when I can get a room here for a decent price. (Not always the case....some weekends they charge more than double what I usually pay. All depends on what is happening at the local colleges.) If you are involved with anything in Georgetown, this is a perfect location for you. The lobby is very spacious and light, filled with various seating areas and a bar. I always like having a glass of wine down here while waiting for friends. My rooms here have always been comfortable and quiet compared to the other hotels I have stayed in in DC. Very luxurious. They have a decent restaurant in the hotel that offers standard hotel food- nothing great- but we've enjoyed some pleasant birthdays and breakfasts here. It's clean and I found the breakfasts to be really delicious, with lots of fresh fruit. A high point was a certain Sunday brunch that was in a different area of the hotel. VERY expensive but just over the top fantastic for the college kids in my life. So much food, superior service, unlimited champagne...quite special if you have hungry people in your orbit. I am a member of the President's Club. It is worth it to sign up. read more

Lobby--When I pulled up in to the front entrance, it looked like any other hotel but as I walked through the glass doors, I realized it was different from the ordinary hotel. There is an expansive lobby, with ample seating inviting guests to relax on the chairs/couches. The seating is flooded with outdoor light from the windows facing a beautiful, well kept garden. Bar--The bar is tucked in the corner of the lobby/lounge area with a few bar tables. After my friends arrive, we decide to have a drink. The bartender was friendly but reserved. We took our drinks to one of the few tables and he later delivered a fabulous sterling 3-bowl server with complimentary snackie-yums-yums that included wasabi peas, pretzels, and a bar mix. Perfect with our martinis. Room--My room was on the 6th floor and one wall offered a landscape window that ran the entire length of the wall facing the main street. The room was decorated in gold/beige tones accented by chestnut furniture with glass tabletops. In the closet is a small safe for valuables. The mini bar is built into an alcove with a beautiful silver ice bucket and glass set that also sat on a silver tray. The crown molding around the room and marble tile in the bathroom provided additional elegance. Although I was by myself, I had 3 phones in the room with one in the bathroom and wondered why this would be an important amenity to include in the original space plans. Maybe a lot of people have flashes of brilliance on the toilet and need to call someone about it immediately before they forget. Complaints--Despite the praise, I did have 2 legitimate complaints. First, you have to pay for internet access. If you're gonna pay a lot to stay in a 4-diamond hotel, you should automatically get free internet. This is one area where Best Western & Holiday Inn definitely had a leg up. Second, they had a great looking health club with a pool but that too required a $15 charge--WTH! Other that, the staff was friendly, I slept like a baby, and it was a 2-minute walk to my conference location. I've stayed here before this recent trip and would definitely recommend it. read more

Excellent service. Very down to earth and friendly. Also, the downstairs decor is wonderful. Lots of soft, warm hues and attention to detail. We spent a lot of time relaxing in the sunny sitting room. The room itself did not exceed my expectations, but it was very comfortable and we had a standing-room balcony to look down at the courtyard. Also the room service pizza was pretty good, but not nearly as good as what we paid for it (but I guess that is the nature of room service). Nonetheless, they were very chipper when bringing it to us, even though it was 2am. The ballroom was perfect for a wedding reception--lots of room inside for dancing and an adjacent entrance way with seating for quieter chatting. Plus, the women's bathroom was stocked with mouthwash, oil blotting sheets, and other goodies. Win. There is also a nice cafe within walking distance, and the Metro is easy to get to. We had a very enjoyable stay at the Fairmont in Georgetown. Location is central to many things. It is walking distance to the major sites in Washington. It is also close to lots of restaurants and shopping. All the staff were friendly and efficient. The parking is expensive and the staff provides good alternatives for cheaper parking. Quite a lovely hotel if a bit understated overall. Formerly known as The Monarch Hotel until a changeover about 3 1/2, 4 years ago. Nice lobby bar. A tough place to find a discount room on weekends, though. read more

I really don't understand the negative reviews below. This is an outstanding city hotel -- certainly not a resort hotel such as the Fairmont Banff Springs one complaining reviewer compared it to -- and should be judged accordingly. Give me a few thousand acres to work with and I'll give you a lot better hotel too. But the Fairmont Washington is on the small side, and lacks some of the amenities you can get used to in the Fairmont family. It lacks no charm for this, and the staff is just wonderful. The Gold Floor is as fine as any anywhere, and whatever services you may need for business travel, they are there, albeit at times for a price. This is our home away from home when we're in D.C., and while there are other hotels we like in the area, we always prefer the Fairmont. Clearly others do as well, because the only time we stay anywhere else is when the Fairmont is literally booked solid and even our President's Club Platinum membership is not enough to get us in. Oh, be sure to stay here around Christmas. The decorations are fabulous. (I have posted my unfortunate review of the restaurant, Juniper, under its own page. I will say that the room service is excellent, as is the lobby bar. And the Christmas brunch is genuinely one of the most fabulous -- and in one of the most beautiful locations -- you will likely ever experience.) read more

The boy and I stayed here last weekend for a spontaneous trip. We found a deal online and it was quite nice. The room was spacious and clean. The downsides included the lack of a view and a tv that looked too small for the cabinet it was housed in. Unfortunately we couldn't stay for the Sunday brunch, so there's no comment on that. read more

My wife and I stayed at the Fairmont during our DC visit to attend the Rally To Restore Sanity, and, to my surprise and pleasure, were joined by Steven Colbert and his entourage! (a little shorter than I would have expected...) Nothing undersized about the hotel, however. A major renovation was winding down, but all the public spaces were completed and one would never have known the work was going on. The staff is young, vibrant and very attentive --- not a single stuffed shirt. Our room was well-appointed, bed was very comfortable (firm mattress) and the down comforter and bathrobes made us feel very special. Recommend getting a room facing the inner courtyard, especially on the lower floors. We only dined for breakfast, which was slightly above average (they do offer a unattended daily breakfast buffet). A short walk from the hotel to Georgetown for shopping and eating, and a slightly longer walk to the Metro station for sightseeing. A little out of the way for heavy sightseeing (the Mall is six or seven stops away on the Metro), but perfect for a leisurely DC visit that includes a lot of time in Georgetown. read more

Comfy hotel, and very spacious rooms, but I don't feel it's worth the high price. If traveling for work, go for it! Convenient to Georgetown, and walkable to a lot of other things in the area. The restaurant wasn't too bad for "hotel" food, but it was on the spendier side. Though the outside courtyard was really nice to dine in, we had poor service, which was kind of a downer. The Blue Duck Tavern across the street in the Hyatt is a much better dinner option, and is delicious! Starbucks across the street and Walgreens a couple of blocks away means that you can sustain yourself for breakfast and find water that isn't $7 per bottle. read more
