I was booked here on a work trip for a 1-night stay and it was the most amazing hotel I have stayed in for business thus far. It was also a great time to go in mid-September as the weather was cooling down so it was comfortable to be outside. Upon check-in I was upgraded to a suite on the 9th floor. All the suites on the floor was for gold members so I had access to the lounge where there was free wifi, free meals and snacks. What a bonus! My room was pretty much over the top for one person to stay in but I can't complain - I was completely spoiled. There were 3 doors to access my suite! One for the bedroom, one that led to the living area complete with 2 sitting areas and a huge dining table, and one from the back where there was a kitchen. If you have meetings or need a meetup spot for a group of friends & family, these suites are definitely it! I saw a giant paella dish outside the window of my suite and called the front desk immediately to ask what was going on and she let me know that once a day every week for about a month (I believe) they do different themed events outside. That night I was there was Spanish themed and for $10, you have access to tapas, paella, Spanish wines and a lovely guitarist setting the mood. The food was divine - sardines, Spanish cheeses, breads with tomato spread, a big leg of jamon cut right there for you and a giant dish of paella whose recipe belonged to the family of the head chef in the restaurant. It was the perfect evening and I enjoyed every bit of it! The event was from 5-7pm. After that I went to my room and ordered dinner (yes, I know a second dinner) of ribeye steak and a nice glass of wine to close out the night. The one downside of my stay there was that I called to have my finished dinner taken away and I waited about 40 minutes and no one came. It was getting late so I showered and went to bed. The next morning I went to the lounge to get a quick breakfast - it was delicious! A buffet of anything you would need for breakfast - pastries, bagels, fruit, yogurt, eggs, bacon, sausage, coffee, teas, etc. I then headed to my business meeting. After returning from the meeting, I had a few hours to kill before my light so I ordered in-room dining for lunch. I ordered the crab & avocado appetizer that came with bread crisps and a buffalo chicken wings. This review is 5 stars because of the excellent hotel valet and service from Meet Patel and Solomon. We carried two sets of keys for our truck and when we left hotel a set was left behind with Valet. Meet Patel contacted the front desk and was able to get our contact information and mail out our keys, estimated $700 to replace. They overnighted the keys and did not accept payment for it. Wow, this place is amazing. I didn't actually stay here, I just came to visit my friend who did stay here. I can tell you that the place is spotless and beautiful and really elegantly decorated. Everything is in place. Their rooms are very luxurious, giant beds, and nice and comfy linens. The bathroom is HUGE and brightly lit. The rooms come with very comfy chairs and a breakfast tray of brochures. Their coffee station is a Kurig cup instead of regular coffee made with grinds. Oh the lotions and shampoos they give you is from this company that sells $60 lotions for like a little bottle. So the bottles they give out is probably worth at least $5-7... that's pricey for a little hotel lotion bottle. But the perfume is infused into the lotion so it smells really good and it makes your skin so smooth. I mean, this place is a top notch hotel. Really amazing. read more

This is my favorite hotel I've ever stayed in. My partner and I stayed in the capital corner suite for a special occasion. The layout of the room is great. I loved the credenza that turned the TV from the bed to the couch, perfect for a staycation. The king bed was really comfy. The room was really clean, and they had someone cleaning high touch surface areas in the main hotel lobby. The summer package is a great deal with breakfast, parking, and wifi all included with the room price. I suggest the omelette breakfast with the potatoes or the bagel and lox. I did not expect the amazing service. Hannah was so nice and made our trip so incredibly memorable, and I can't wait to go back. Cortez and Hanca were always so helpful. They have deliveries sent up to your room, and you could make house keeping requests via text (they don't do housekeeping during your stay to minimize risk for the employees but they replaced my towels and gave me pretty much whatever I needed in regards to housekeeping). This minimized the amount of people roaming around the hotel, so I felt safer the times I left and came back. If you're apart of the accor loyalty program you get a 10% discount on top of the savings from the summer package. Best staycation I've ever had! The pool and restaurants are closed because of covid, but cheff geoff's west end a block away has really good food, the crab cakes with the corn on the side is the way to go. Bandit taco was great as well and reasonably priced, shocked by how good the tofu taco was! I would give this hotel a 10 million/10 if I could. read more

Stayed here a night for a staycation in town, and overall was happy with only a few reservations (but not opposed to a future reservation). Good: * Service was almost always excellent. The folks who helped us load and unload some heavy bags, in particular. Seriously made our entrance and exit a nice experience. Front desk staff was also good as was the cleaning folks. In fact, everyone was except the person who was watching over the gym and pool--he seemed rather disinterested. * Mattress was quite comfy. Pillows left a bit to be desired but that may be personal taste--I like firm pillows and these were very soft. So maybe you'll like it more than us. * A few amenities that we might have expected at the price point weren't there, including robes. But the place was as clean as one would expect from a 4 star place. * The location is super convenient. * Gym is kinda small-looking but might be ok. The pool was pretty nice--very chlorinated (much better than insufficiently chlorinated for health purposes). * Windows kept sound out but we could hear some noise in the hallway. * Bathroom is nice. Niiice. * In-house restaurant definitely leaves a bit to be desired. See separate review for that one. All in all, thumbs up. I think this is a good option and one to which I would return. read more

Overpriced for a hotel that is very dated and not very clean. The front desk staff were rude and they put us in the wrong room class and told me that they had over booked the room we originally reserved, so they put us in a smaller room without any consideration being offered. I just recently moved back to Virginia from DC, so my boyfriend and I figured we would get a hotel in the city to make a concert more like a vacation. WOW. that is exactly what we got with this hotel. To start - check in and check out times allow you SO much time for sightseeing and enjoying the area. I believe we were allowed to check in at 3, and check out was ONE PM! We loved the hotel bar / lobby area so much (it's truly beautiful and comfortable) that we ended up having pre concert dinner and drinks there, which we initially weren't planning to do. The happy hour specials are fantastic as well, and if I hadn't already moved from the city, you can bet I would check them out more often. The bar food is also exceptional - we split a brisket sandwich and fries. It was pricey but delicious, and worth it for the atmosphere. After the concert, we hung out in the garden / outdoor area which was just stunning. Our room was a basic hotel room - very clean, very comfortable, nice touches everywhere. The robes were my favorite part of the room, honestly. But then, what I felt like was the windfall. We had the whole morning to relax in bed for a while (in said robes lol), then had an outstanding breakfast (that was included in our package) took a run around the mall to the capitol, then swam a few laps in the pool and sat in the hot tub. We were able to actually really enjoy the hotel itself, whereas I feel like most hotels just kick you out the day you leave - and if you only spend one night, it just detracts from the experience. Staying at the Fairmont was a vacation in and of itself and I can't recommend it enough. It's a fancy hotel, but I'll also throw out that we got an excellent rate on a package that included breakfast for two and PARKING. Highly, highly recommend! read more

What a wonderful hotel. My sister and I booked 2 rooms for my parents for my dad's 60th birthday as a surprise for his first time ever in DC. The hotel is right outside the city and next to GW University. No need to worry about all the craziness of DC. Georgetown feels like a whole new world. The hotel is a 10-15 min cab from most major attractions in the city. From the moment we arrived, we are greeted with incredibly nice employees and beautiful interior. While it was too cold to be sitting outside, the lobby bar made for a fantastic place to come and have a drink. It is more of an upscale bar, but I have no complaints. The rooms for in pristine condition and the beds were quite comfortable. My only issue is that we called the day before to confirm the room would be ready early for my parents who were on a red eye only to find out that they were not able to enter the room yet. Luckily our second room was open and they were able to get into there to have a quick nap. They were able to provide them with a fruit basket the next day as an apology which was a nice gesture. Overall, this hotel was a fantastic property and would happily come back. read more

Staying at the hotel right now. Checked in and was told a "Hold" for the entire amount of stay would be placed on my card. The stay was paid for months ago, not sure why a Hold(which actually was a charge) needed to be done. Woke up today, 3rd morning in hotel to a 297 dollar charge that I now have to take time to inquire about. Seems as though they just manipulate ways to take your money. I was excited to stay here on New Year's eve with some friends to ring in the new year. I was pleased with the courteous greeting I received at the concierge and the room was lovely as well. I'm leaving a 2 star review for First, I called the front desk and asked for tea and no one came by. Though this sounds super pretentious, I believe if you're staying at a 4 star hotel, someone can bring you a measly tea bag especially if you're paying good money for a room on NYE. Second, the room was cold and I asked for some extra blankets, and once again no one came to deliver the blanket, this time I even asked if I could come down and get it, and again my request was ignored. The last straw was after my shower. I went to grab the towel on the shelf and there appeared to be dried blood stains on the towel. Once again, if you are staying and paying for 4 star service this is completely unacceptable. I promptly called the front desk and no one even offered to bring me fresh towels. I alerted the concierge upon check out and they didn't seem to be phased about the towel at all, nor did anyone apologize. We did have dinner and breakfast at the restaurant which was nice and the wait staff was super attentive. They just need to work on the other kinks mentioned above. read more

I visit D.C. often and have stayed in several hotels in the G'town-Foggy Bottom Area - Fairmont ranks near the top. Check in was quick and efficient. The property is well-maintained and really has the feel of a higher-end hotel (it's a Fairmont, it's supposed to, right?) My room was quite nice - spacious, well-appointed, quiet and comfortable. Excellent location in proximity to Georgetown and The George Washington University campus make this place a winner for me. The only ding was the service in the bar area - inattentive and inept at times, but excellent response from management, so I'm not going to make a big deal of it...more like a "work in progress" for the hotel to improve upon. I was extremely confused about Fairmont on Dec 9. One of the reasons we went there this past Wednesday was to get a photo of us at the lobby bar to be entered to win the ice skating party using #fiarmontwashington on Instagram, which was advertised on the hotel website as well as Eventbrite. I inquired about it via Instagram DM to confirm the contest was still happening and it didn't seem the social media staff knew about this. And when I provided the hotel's own press release from end of Nov, I was completely ignored though my message was read and the account was still posting on Instagram and Twitter. Not sure if the hotel decided to pull the hashtag contest, but if it did, it'd be nice to remove the ads to prevent misleading customers. Then after a couple days on Dec 11, and me sharing this experience on Twitter, as well as Instagram, the hotel finally reached out to me and explained that the contest was still taken place. Whoever was running the Twitter was definitely more on top of events/promotion the hotel was offering. A little piece of advice: It's important the staff is aware and on top of events/promotions especially when it's social media staff vs social media promo/events. It doesn't help with the company and its image when customers make an inquiry of something and instead of saying "Let me double check and get back to you" or anything along the line, they are left unanswered and are only helped when customers make public posts on Twitter, which seems to be the most effective way to solve issues nowadays. read more

This was my first time staying at a Fairmont and certainly won't be my last. From reservation to check in to check out, the experience was one of the best I've ever had! And that's saying a lot seeing how much I've traveled and how many hotel chains I've frequented. First, I called to confirm my reservation and the customer service agent who answered and helped me was extremely sweet and pleasant and helpful. Then, my check in was smooth and my room was ready as promised. And the hotel itself was absolutely beautiful and immaculate!! During my stay, I visited the front desk for assistance and every single front desk person was extremely helpful, kind, and it was just first class customer service all around! And then check out...same thing... so smooth! I enjoyed my stay and after this, I will always choose a Fairmont hotel first from now on! This hotel is first class all around! Beautiful hotel. The lobby was charming with the center atrium bar, the halls by the guest rooms were beautiful with romantic dark charcoal paint, and the guest room was clean, comfortable, and beautiful. My husband and I both liked the round table in the room that would be perfect for breakfast or doIng work. The headboard had build in reading lights that I appreciated. The toiletries were high end and very nice. Location was good- 5 minute Uber to downtown Georgetown. BUT I had one major complaint. The lobby smelled so strongly of some sort of fragrance- like cologne. The smell was constantly there during our entire trip so I assume it's some sort of signature scent. It was SO off putting. I cannot stand fragrances and it made me want to hurry past the lobby every time. read more

I recently ate and danced here at a wedding reception which was held here. The cocktail hour was the highlight with picturesque ambiance incorporating indoor and outdoor seating, absolutely delicious appetizers including multiple warming stations and charcuterie. If my experience ended after the appetizers, this would be a 5-star review, but what brought it down was the entre which was nearly inedible with well-done steak which was difficult to cut, excessively chewy, and without flavor (which they tried to compensate with sauce all over the plate). On the plus, the service was very attentive and quickly accommodated my wife's lactose intolerance for the entirety of the meal through desert; and everything else was impressive including coffee and dessert. This past weekend, I had the pleasure of staying at the Fairmont Washington DC, a luxury hotel located in the West End and I had an absolute blast. The hotel unveiled the results of a $27 million renovation just two years ago and the transformation is simply breathtaking. Walking into the lobby, you'll immediately notice lavish floral arrangements atop a mixed-media table that doubles as DC inspired artwork. Look up and you'll see an elaborate and eye-catching installation of gold geometric shapes which appear to float within the space with small lights randomly sprinkled throughout. The front desk is absolutely stunning - with white marble and gold details, giving it a clean yet chic look. Behind the front desk is a collection of strategically placed gold squares, all in different finishes which adds stunning dimension to the wall. If you look even closer, you'll notice it's not just a statement wall - it's also a map of the city. There is also a U-shaped bar that I got to visit and wind down after a long day of traveling. Believe it or not, the hotel actually has beehives on their rooftop and uses fresh honeycomb in their cocktails (ask for the 'beetini,' they are delicious). You'll also get views of their brand new courtyard from the bar, which features lush landscaping, new fire pits, unique pockets of seating, and tranquil water features. Like the city itself, modern furnishings are mixed with classical detail pieces in the guest rooms. The room's color palette was gray and plum, and everything was streamlined and included with a purpose in mind. Rather than a typical working desk, the rooms offer and a round table that doubles as a dining spot or a flexible working space. The eggplant-colored lounge chair and cream tufted headboard offers further style and comfort. The art on the walls reflect Washington's history. And the BEDS - the beds were simply heavenly and it was definitely a struggle to get up every morning. I absolutely loved my stay at the Fairmont and already can't wait for my next trip back to DC. My dad stays at this hotel for work every time he comes for business trips. While this hotel is located in a nice area, and has a nice lounge etc, the service is terrible. He used to stay at the four seasons for years before coming here, and I can definitely notice the difference. No one ever comes to provide us with fruits or anything at least. It takes a few phone calls just to get basic necessities like towels. And we ordered room service once and it cost $68 for two dishes and two soft drinks. The food was barely edible. There were hard pieces of cheese in my pasta (almost as hard as bone) and quite frankly I could've made better pasta at home. Also, I asked for French fries and they did not bring it. Terrible service overall. You'll find a better place to stay. Possibly ritz Carlton or the like. read more

Terrible experience. I left with tears from that hotel. Me and my husband planned a weekend for his birthday. Starting when we arrived, the Valet made us feel as if we do not belong there.. kept assuring if we are at the right place by directing us to get on the exit lane. When we stated that we have reservations, 2 of them kept repeating that the Valet parking is $56 , like we can't afford it or something. Moving on, at check in the guy at the front desk 'upgrade' our room, we didn't like that room, it wasn't intimate. We've asked for our original room, then we were told it wasn't ready. We had to wait until 6 pm. In the morning, we headed to the breakfast buffet which we paid for, there we were told we our package wasn't included breakfast. Went to the front desk , the lady credit us for $75 after I was bringing everything to her attention. The icing on the cake was a molded bagel and a hair in my omelet ! I spoke to a manager after that horrible breakfast, all he said was "I'm sorry, I saw that my assistant issued a $75 credit, what else are you looking to get?" , so maybe I shouldn't bring to your attention that I had hair in my food because I was already given a $75 credit ??!?! I am horrifying by the service and the treatments received from the staff. read more

We had arrived with high hopes of a wonderful time. Wow was I disappointed. When I arrived I was told that we would not get room we paid for, but we were not given a credit for the downgraded room. The food was not very good, the meat in my burger was so undercooked that I was afraid to eat it. The waiter insisted that it was medium until I made a mini hamburger with the raw meat in the center. We stayed here for two nights this spring. A close friend of my husband was getting married and all wedding festivities were at the Fairmont. We took advantage of the discounted room rate (wound not have been able to afford the stay here otherwise) offered to guests of the wedding. Hotel was extremely clean and the rooms were awesome; spacious, inviting, open and airy. Shower pressure is as great as everyone says it is. I liked that our room window could open as we visited during peak Cherry Blossom season-beautiful. Weather was also perfect during particular this weekend. Staff was very, very accommodating and exceptionally friendly. We walked everywhere, so we had some questions for the bellhops, etc. Thankfully we took a shuttle from Reagan International to the Fairmont. Parking is $40-$50/per day at the hotel. Internet service was also at a cost of $16/day, so that was disappointing. My husband ordered room service; a cheeseburger was $40, but I told him 'you only live once.' Food came within 15 minutes and he ordered right during the peak lunchtime hour. Overall, our experience was pleasant. 4/5 stars because it would have been nice if the Fairmont had their own personal shuttle van to and from the airport and free internet service---for the price you're paying per night these perks really should be included. read more

Wow. What a great renovation! My room was beautiful. Great bed, great design down to the carpet and the cool LED- reading lamps that pop out from the sides of the leather headboard. They replaced the bathtub with a nicely tiled and roomy stall shower. Even the elevator lobbies were cool. I think the lobby still needs to be redone. It looks traditional as compared to the cool redesign upstairs. I would happily stay there again! Great location. Great service. read more

The Fairmont Hotel was right across from the Park Hyatt in the Westend area. When I walked in I noticed that the foyer was elegantly decorated. My friend and me werent sure if we should go to Juniper or just hang out at the foyer area called the Loggia. In the end we just sat at the Loggia to catch up. The drink menu had a great selection of cocktail and scotch but we decided on wine. I spent the lovely evening sipping Sancerre it was the ONLY french wine on the rather limited wine list. I also ordered a light fare it was called Eastern Shore Seafood Sampler Jumbo Lump Crab Spring Roll, Virginia Oyster Chowder, Sea Scallop with Crispy Pancetta, Marinated Shrimp Cocktail It sounded a mouthful but the platter was four small bites of jumbo lump crab cake spring roll: lump crab meat but a bit fishy. Oyster chowder: served in a small cup which was interesting the soup had a good flavor with oysters. Sea scallop: the scallop was underdone in the middle and tasted fishy as well. Shrimp cocktail: the shrimp cocktail was large in size but bland and tastless from boiling. Who eats shrimp cocktail anyway? We had a nice evening hanging out at the Loggia it was quiet even with the occasional tourist traffic. read more

Sweet, sweet digs. There's no doubt you get your money's worth when you stay here. The lobby is elegant, the rooms are well-appointed and the service is top notch. The bed is quite comfortable. While it's not the best mattress I ever slept on, it still allowed me to get a decent night's sleep. The bathroom is very clean and the shower is definitely one of the best that I experienced in a hotel. The water pressure is sweet and there's no doubt you should be able to relax nicely when you stay here. The room service is pretty solid and the food comes quickly (on average about 30 minutes or so). The quality of the food is solid and they do a great job of making sure your dessert comes quickly after entree if you have anything a la mode. It's a nice little perk you get when you stay here. The check-in process was smooth and the parking attendants are very professional. After calling for my car, it was usually there within 5-10 minutes, ready to go in front of the hotel. There's also a good number of cabs here and the close proximity to Georgetown and DuPont Circle was a nice plus. All in all I was pleased with my experience. read more

Horrible customer service. I booked a two night stay for the weekend with my boyfriend. The day we were set the check in, my boyfriend had to be taken to the ER in an ambulance. Despite proof from the ER, the Fairmont would not refund any part of my stay that I was unable to check in to, including the second night. I will not be booking here again. read more

Awesome inner courtyard for relaxation and dining and top notch valet upon arrival and departure. The desk staff and bellman are attentive but the hotel overall is underwhelming. Tad garish and poorly maintained for a Fairmont brand standard. Hilton or Shereton-like rooms with not a lot of view options to attract the eye in a positive sense. There is a certain degree of failing infrastructure going on here and there as anyone attentive to detail will notice. This location has huge potential and is likely hitting most the buttons a tourist in DC will seek, a family desires, or an international traveler expects but they'll walk away wondering how this Fairmont matches up against others they've stayed in if they're truly international in their travel. In short, it will fall short on business standards for those with global experience under their belt but meet most tourist needs. Rusty vents, cracked sinks, no room service despite saying twice daily, and lounge service lacking - so bad in the lounge my wife was actually chocking and had to wait for water in line AFTER asking for table side nuts and such... The men's locker room had towels that looked at least ten years old and the pool was so over chlorinated it was barely tolerable! Nothing spa-like at all and dare you be there from 4-6 PM you're in serious trouble as that is when the children are allowed in and it's a total zoo! The only other not so great situation was out room toilet was constantly filling up making noise while we slept so after a call to the front desk they sent maintenance in less than five minutes so we were impressed but all they did was plunge the toilet - as you can imagine, that didn't solve the issue and trust me, this person spoke English quite well enough to know they were at best appeasing our request, not actually satisfying it. Oh, on a positive note, we left a personal affect in our car and called valet for help. They went and got it for us super fast but I guess at $44/day for parking they should! Oh, one more thing, sorry - $5/person to use pool, even if you're a guest, pretty odd to say the least. read more

We had a fabulous stay at the Fairmont Washington DC (Georgetown). The room was spacious, clean with a great bed and nice terrace overlooking the back lounge. The breakfast buffet was outstanding- plenty of healthy options and the service was wonderful. read more

A gorgeous yet comfortable hotel. I shared a room with friends here for a wedding (hosted at the hotel) and the room was spacious enough for all of us. They even brought in a cot while we were at the reception that was a full size/sturdy twin bed. The lobby is spacious and well lit with small but comfortable group lounge areas perfect for gathering with a group. The wedding reception in the ballroom downstairs was also gorgeous with great service and food. The hotel staff was professional and kind to all the attendees. As a hotel and venue, the Fairmont was worthy of 5 stars. read more

I am a big fan of Fairmont's signature resort properties in Canada. In the US most urban properties are purely business b+ or A- hotels. This is a solid B+. Not a Ritz or Four Seasons but very nice and comfy. The D.C. Hotel is in no mans land between Georgetown and downtown. If you need metro or want a quick walk to anything you better have running shoes! It's easy to grab cabs etc but it's off the beaten path so if you want privacy and more piece and quiet it's ideal. The rooms are nice and spacious. The amenities are nice and the service pretty good. I should note I had a small issue getting internet access. Their tech support meant well but their English was really tough to understand. I have stayed in fairmonts and ritz etc regularly and this is the first time I ever had a snafu logging in. The main dining room "juniper" is very nice I tried the rib eye and the crab cakes. Both nice meals. read more

Came here for a surprise birthday weekend. I had a fabulous time. The hotel was immaculate, it was pretty, easy to access, offered valet parking. It was centrally located to al the great restaurants and monumental sights. We enjoyed great environment in the hotel and perused in and out of the hotel for the entire weekend. I cannot say enough about the amazing customer service, professionalism, efficiency and kindness the entire team at the Fairmont adhere to. I have stayed with them on multiple occasions and they absolutely go above and beyond for their guests. From the concierge to corporate services they exemplify excellent customer service. The bartenders and servers always remember you and treat you like you are their only customer. We have a corporate rate with the Fairmont so that visiting surgeons and patients can stay there. Every time they stay, they cannot say enough about the Fairmont. The rooms are always spotless and the housekeeping service will cater to anything you may need. All in all, I had a great stay at the hotel. I stayed for New Years Eve and they offered a jazz band in the lobby and well as some bar specials. The hotel was very modern and upscale. Although, my boyfriend and I did run into some negatives. The first, my boyfriend called to make reservations prior to arriving. He specifically asked for a room with a balcony and told that we were able to reserve one. When we got to our room, there was no balcony. He called down to ask the front desk about the "mistake." They were very kind and found a room with a balcony right away for us. The second, the valet is $50-$60 per night. While I'm fine with paying that, we were never told the price. Third, the deposit was charged to my bank account. I'm fine with that, but one front desk associate told me the money would be back in my account in one day. Of course, that's not what happened. I didn't receive the money so I called the hotel. I was informed by another associate it takes 3-5 business days. I think all associates should be knowledgeable on the correct information! Although we're experienced some negatives, our room was great and comfortable. We may return in the future now that we know about the valet price & deposit. read more

We recently stayed here two nights, the hotel itself was very nice but we encountered a couple things that would make me reconsider staying there again. First we woke up each morning to drilling and/or hammering at 9am. I'm honestly not sure where it was coming from around us (adjacent room? room above? below?) It would without fail start each morning around that time, we noticed that they were doing construction in the lobby but we were on the fourth floor so I don't believe that it would reach us? Either way, it was annoying and difficult to enjoy our breakfast while the walls were vibrating. Second, the parking was very expensive - it was around $60-70 a night. We had in and out but I didn't want to bother. The food was good at the hotel, but we had driven about 8 hours to get there and I did not notice that they already added 20% gratuity to our bill, the gentleman who delivered our food the first night basically got a 40% tip. Honestly I felt a bit salty about that. All-in-all, it was okay but the total cost did not match what we experienced. I was a bit disappointed that this hotel did not live up to the Fairmont name. read more

The Good: Beautiful hotel. Nicely furnished, lovely and spacious room with clean bath and comfortable bed with feather pillows overlooking beautiful courtyard and close to elevator. Free wifi when you join the Fairmont President's Club (it's free to do so, you can sign up online on their website and you must do so prior to arrival) Ironing board, iron, coffee maker including tea, hair dryer and make-up mirror in room. Nice toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, soap, body cream). Maid who arranged all my cosmetics neatly on a towel (something only my mother would do - God bless her). Free daily New York Times. The shower head is wonderful - like a high pressure waterfall. Friendly door men who were happy to hail a cab or let you know if a destination was within walking distance and point you in the right direction. Friendly and amicable bar staff (all employees were so nice and made us feel at home). Maintenance staff came immediately when I couldn't figure out how to turn floor lamp on. The Not-so-Good: HEAT! I caught a cold on day 2 of our trip, but I was cold much of our stay. The thermostat was originally set to 68.5. I raised it to 70. The following day it was set back to 68.5. My first thought was really, a 4 star hotel too cheap to pay for sufficient heat in November. The last night I swear I didn't hear the heater come on once. When I checked, it was on auto. I increased to 74.5, which should be sweltering. When I pressed high, it did begin making sound, but it took forever to warm up. There was no point calling maintenance as it was our last day. Thank God for the 20 pound blanket on the bed. Otherwise, I would've surely caught the flu. There is absolutely nothing worse than being sick AND cold. Bills shoved under our door at 8 am when I awoke. We paid for the room in full in advance because I didn't want to be bothered with money. When check out is at 1 pm and bills are already shoved under my door at 8 am I felt like I was being ushered out. The hotel bill wasn't even correct. Why they needed to send a bill when it had already been paid is beyond me. The $75 food bill surely could've been dealt with at check-out. It just seemed like such a tacky, unwelcoming thing to do. No one wants to feel rushed out or deal with bills shoved under their door first thing when they wake up. Cheap toilet paper. Floor lamp/outlet is difficult to figure out (it only works when switch at the door, which is across the room is flipped on). Coffee maker was difficult to figure out at first (a six step process that doesn't bode well for a tired person in the morning). There was a bit of black mildew on the tub. It could use a Clorox bleach pen. The hotel room doors seem to slam easily so we could hear our neighbors, which was annoying. Slow Internet connection at times Housekeeping knocking on your door at 8:30 am on weekdays if you don't remember to hang the "Privacy Please" tag outside your door My bf seemed to think the door men make a bonus/commission for hotel amenities. He wanted to go out for a bite to eat and asked for a recommendation. The doormen ushered him back inside to the hotel restaurant where he paid $23 for a sandwich. In the doorman's defense, it was Sunday night at 10:30 and EVERYTHING seems to close early in D.C. every night of the week. But another time when he saw my bf coming in with a Starbucks, he said "we have coffee here!" Yes, but nobody does coffee like Starbucks, and I'm sure their hotel coffee is probably twice the price. read more

This property is beautiful and so close to Georgetown. Quick weekend getaway even if it's close to home, it's worth it. The room was pristine and the courtyard is beautiful. This is the second Fairmont hotel I've visited - first one being the Fairmont Orchid in Hawaii - and my experience was (once again) underwhelming. The rooms are large, but they are outdated. Furthermore, the hotel's vibe is pretty stuffy. It's also absolutely absurd they charge $14 for internet; however, you can get this waived if you sign up for their rewards program. I would stay here again, but only if I got a good deal. Otherwise, I would recommend spending your money elsewhere. read more
