My very first visit and staff was amazing! We came for the Veuve clicquot pop up. The food was on pricey side but included a glass of yellow label. The fries could have also been a little more quality for the price.

Great spot for good drinks and they created an incredible atmosphere to watch the World Cup. They hung flags of the countries still left in the tournament on the windows. Great natural lighting exists in the bar area.

The Grand Ballroom during a conference.
Jeff N.

I attended a conference recently at the Fairmont, which was a pretty good experience even though I didn't have the chance to stay there. Overall, the service was very good and the catering was performed well with easy access to stairs and elevators and restrooms. They had two areas to hang your coat that were in close range to the ballrooms. For conferences, the hotel has two ballrooms, one of which can be partitioned into separate smaller rooms for sessions. There also a few conference rooms that can be used for smaller discussions and meetings in addition to a business center if you need to work on a project deadline on your computer or need to make printouts or send something out via mail. The one drawback is the poor acoustics that can amplify a few conversations into a drone of noise. During lunch in the other ballroom the conference used, a full capacity of people made it a challenge to just have a conversation with someone sitting right next to you. While there are nooks and areas that you can step away from the noise in between sessions or lunch to have a conversation or make a phone call, it's tough when you are trying to engage in the moment. The food at the restaurant on the first floor was pretty good for breakfast but I was disappointed in the bacon that was overcooked.

My view

My stay at the Fairmont Hotel was, without exaggeration, the worst experience I've ever had at a luxury hotel. To start, I was promised a room with a view and instead was given what can only be described as a jail cell--staring directly at brick walls. For the price per night, that alone was completely unacceptable. I was then moved to a different room on the 10th floor, which turned out to be even worse. There was a loud, persistent banging noise coming from the ceiling throughout the entire night. It went on and off constantly and made it impossible to sleep--I genuinely got almost no rest. The next day, after explaining the situation, I was offered only a minimal refund, which felt completely inadequate given that I had essentially paid for a sleepless night. I was then moved yet again to another room, where the shower drain was so severely clogged that I couldn't even finish washing my hair without the bathtub starting to overflow. Overall, this was an absolutely miserable experience from start to finish. For a hotel at this price point and reputation, the level of quality, comfort, and service fell far below expectations. Extremely disappointing and not at all the standard I would expect from what is supposed to be a luxury hotel. Also worth mentioning--booking this hotel was a frustrating experience in itself. When I called to make the reservation, the representative was incredibly slow and made what should have been a simple process unnecessarily difficult. I provided a corporate code to add a personal night, and she couldn't seem to process it correctly. I ended up being stuck on the phone for nearly an hour just trying to book a basic room, which is honestly ridiculous for a hotel of this supposed caliber.

Great location, short walk into Georgetown. Full gym, not just a hotel gym. The balance gym within the hotel is a full service gym that guests have access to and includes a large selection of weights, cardio, and classes. Also 2 peloton bikes. There are water fill stations in the hallways. Room was clean and spacious. Beds very comfortable. Balconies face the courtyard. Staff is friendly. There is a cocktail lounge with food. Valet parking is available. The TV has Chromecast so you can stream directly to it. Really enjoyed our stay here and would stay again.

This is my favorite place to be after work for some cocktails and appetizers. Good time his friend my Bestie on a picture we have this place.

This is a lovely hotel. The lobby is gorgeous, with its massive metal sculpture with various open geometric figures hanging over the width of the lounge. All the public areas and hallways look fresh and very upscale. Check-in was gracious; I had applied for standby upgrade and went from a signature room to a 700-square foot capital corner suite for only an additional $61 a night, which gave me a great rate for a wonderful room. Lots of space, including a dining nook for four and a full couch in a sitting area. The bathroom was pretty standard (no handheld fixture, either) and the linens on the bed weren't quite as nice as you might expect, but the mattress and pillows were great and overall the room looked great and had nice lighting as well. There are only a couple of negatives -- they are missing a real signature dining experience (the bar/lounge menu is good, but there's nothing like the Blue Duck Tavern at the Hyatt across the street) and the location isn't the best for tourists. The nearest Metro stop (Foggy Bottom) is a 10-15 minute walk away and there's not much that's conveniently walkable in the area. I walked from the McPherson Square area back to the Fairmont, and it took about 20 minutes. So it's doable, but not that handy.

I had a great staycation here. I stayed in a room that was part of Fairmont Gold, which has its own floor with its own concierge and lounge area. The Fairmont gold lounge also had complimentary breakfast and canapés in the evening. The canapés were actually more substantial than what I was expecting which was a pleasant surprise. They also had drinks and other snacks throughout the day available. I also enjoyed going down to the bar and having drinks in the beautiful lobby. My room was comfortable and nicely decorated. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely want to come back.

Convenient location for business or pleasure. I enjoyed walked to many locations. Both checkin and out were quick and all staff members I encountered were extremely professional and well trained. Rooms were OK, I had the shower towel rack fall and hit the back of my foot while showering which was unpleasant. Did get to alert anyone but by the time I got back that evening the room attendant had fixed it. Even the newest -2 days employee was ready and willing to hail a taxi for me when I had Uber woes. Didn't dine at Juniper but noteworthy is the fact that it is across the street from Blue Duck Tavern. Choose it, you will not be disappointed based on the painstaking attention to details and impeccable customer service.

Exceptional service- clean- friendly! Highly recommend for a conference or banquet. The service people were so very friendly and accommodating. The bar is nice as well to grab a quick bite or a drink after a long day.

We recently stayed at the Fairmont for a quick staycation weekend with our dog. We thoroughly enjoyed our time. They were very dog friendly. It's so nice to bring him along with us to the lobby and enjoy some food and drinks. It was walking distance to M street. There's a dog park 2 minute walk away. Even a dog ER center down the block. After our stay we found out they were voted best staycation hotel in dc and we agree!

I treated a friend to the Cherry Blossom Afternoon tea this past Sunday. We enjoyed the atrium, valet parking was $30, and customer service was good. However, the Fairmont was lacking ambience. We expected it to be decked out in cherry blossom theme decor since it was technically a special event. I enjoyed the sweet cherry desserts more than the savory ones. The $95 price point included only one 3-tier stand of small bites, one pot of tea and one glass of champagne. Ultimately, I did not think it was worth the price. I would probably try a different hotel for afternoon tea next time.

Gail B.

The hotel is great. The staff members are nice. The lobby area has several places to visit or just chill. The hotel is a great venue for meetings as well. Foggy Bottom metro is a few blocks away. Guests can use the pool, gym, sauna & jacuzzi.

Does this hotel require key access to get to the floors with guest rooms?

No it does not. The elevators go to the regular residential floors without restriction. Key card access is required to access the premium Fairmont Gold levels (9 and 10 I think).

If you have the opportunity to catch one of these evenings, it is absolutely worth the effort. I arrived early and stopped at Off the Record for a drink before heading upstairs. The bartender mentioned that this event also helps provide additional hours for staff during the slower month of August, which made me appreciate the concept even more. The Top of the Hay itself is stunning. The views and setting are exactly what you would expect from such an iconic DC property, and getting to experience a space that is typically reserved for private events made the evening feel particularly special. The drinks were also excellent. Sweet, but not overly sweet. But what really stood out was the staff. I do not say this lightly. The service was outstanding. I genuinely wish I had caught everyone's names because anyone working between roughly 4:30 and 7:30 that evening in the lobby, Off the Record, or Top of the Hay deserves recognition and a raise! Every person I interacted with was incredibly attentive without ever being overbearing. What impressed me most was that the staff remembered my schedule for the evening and made sure I left Off the Record at exactly the right time so I could be the first person to step into Top of the Hay when it opened. That level of attention to detail is rare. Beautiful space, great drinks, and truly exceptional hospitality. "Be Gin the Evening" is such a clever way to let locals and visitors experience a part of The Hay Adams they otherwise might never see. I would absolutely do it again.

Our stay at The…read moreHay-Adams was deeply disappointing and fell far short of basic expectations, let alone what you would expect from a property claiming five-star luxury. For the rates they charge, the conditions and service are unacceptable. The building is old, heavily dated, and features cheap fixings. The bathroom is tiny, featuring a cramped round sink with virtually zero counter space to set down any personal items. Furthermore, for a five-star hotel, lacking a proper hot tub and standalone shower is unacceptable. The towels provided are cheap, rough, and feel entirely out of place at this price point. The bathroom ventilation is so old and loud, that I can't even believe it's there. No fridge in the room, only a mini bar that will charge you if you move around mini bar items to place your own drinks. The view of the White House was severely misadvertised. To actually see it, you are required to pay an extra $700 on top of an already steep $600-per-night room rate. The acoustic insulation is non-existent. If anyone is staying in the room above you, forget about sleeping--every single footstep and movement carries straight through. The front desk staff was entirely dismissive. After promising to switch our room to resolve our issues, they dragged us through three separate attempts, wasted hours of our time with non-responsive answers, and then finally demanded we pay even more money to fix their mistake. After we went through, not even a complimentary breakfast or really anything. Shocked that this place is more expensive than Four Seasons, St. Regents, and the kind. This is barely a three star hotel (except location of course). Stay away.

The room was spotless, the turndown service was a nice flex, and everything felt polished. The location is clutch--walkable to fun spots and everywhere we needed to be for work. The key-card elevators are sleek, high-tech, and super secure. The restaurant and bar had great energy, and the food hit, but $24 for a drink is unhinged. Overall, a stylish, safe, and seriously fun stay. More details from my review on Google: Rooms: The rooms were exceptionally clean, comfortable, and well maintained. The turndown service was a lovely touch, and everything in the room was perfect throughout my stay. Safety: The hotel elevators felt extremely secure and high-tech. Guests must use a key card to access certain levels and floors, which added an extra layer of safety and peace of mind. It's a great security feature and made me feel very comfortable during our stay. Walkability: The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of plenty of things to do, as well as the locations I needed to access for work. The location made my stay easy and convenient. Food & drinks: The hotel restaurant and bar had a nice atmosphere, and the food was good, but everything felt extremely overpriced. Charging $24 for one drink is absurd. I enjoyed the experience overall, but the prices make it difficult to recommend. Noteworthy details: From the moment I arrived, I was treated like a regular. This review is written on the piggy back of staying in a wonderful location in Asheville. On paper we had a similar experience; greeted warmly by the valet, then again by the concierge. We also have the similar warm plush robes waiting in the room with a welcome note (it's our anniversary). Both locations also boast the roof top bar. In Asheville I sat and drank prosecco and watched the moon rise and then respectively the sun rise over the city. This is where the Hotel Washington takes the turn and as the reader I suggest you ask "what is the experience I am looking for?" The hotel Washington has a beautiful bar with great team members but it is very difficult to see the monuments. There are artificial flowers and pretty lights to give you a spot for lovely photos (of the artificial flowers) and probably look lovely if you're a content creator on social media. But the bar that overlooks the Washington monument has pink lights that reflect off the windows preventing you from actually looking at the monument. In the morning I walked to get a coffee and returned hoping to sit upstairs and watch the sunrise over the city. Nope! "For security purposes" the roof is locked until 4pm. The 4 stars instead of 5 is there is a very heavy perfume in the hotel lobby. It is very heavy and does not seem to have a purpose other than to "not smell of people or outside". This hotel is lovely! The room is comfortable and offers the lavish elegance of a luxury hotel. But the feel this hotel seems to be aiming for is more of a night club and spot for content creators rather than a beautiful building overlooking the amazing history of our country. When booking please consider what you are hoping to get from your experience!
