We just moved in. Anyone that has done a move knows distressful, mentally and physically, yet Extra Space Storage made it easy and uneventful. these two experiences are priceless when moving. Prior to even seeing the storage unit, I received a phone call from the manager. he seemed almost excited and welcoming me as a customer of this facility. so far, the rates are reasonable, and we came in on a special, so we're good for four months, which is comforting security. read more

Do NOT use this facility! RATS inside the building and INSIDE the units as it's not properly closed off at the top so they got in. My stuff got destroyed, feces, urine and eat through my belongings. When I told the person onsite, she acted as if she had no idea what I was talking about and super rude. The smell in there is horrendous and there is visible rat traps and feces along the halls. I'm in the process of filing a claim. Beware of this place, it is a health hazard! read more

When you first move in: everything seems great! They ask you to write a review immediately...and you think, this place LOOKS so clean and Setha and Elizabeth seem SO nice. But if you stay, your stuff will become a toilet for disease ridden RATS!!! That insurance you pay up to 63$ a month for, is going to give you 0$ for your destroyed items and make you work for that 0$. If you rent a big Uhaul to move in or out, be Warned, the gate may shut on YOU, and you will be charged $45,000 for the gate that hit you!! 45 THOUSAND DOLLARS, bet Setha baby going to have a great 1st Birthday.... Yesterday there was rat poop all over my things and it has been about 3.5 weeks I have stored things here. It was gross. I'm looking into the pest control they mentioned because they didn't tell me how they were going to handle it other than make sure I opt for the insurance. It took me an extra hour to get home cleaning everything. I did accidentally leave a cereal box but it it was sealed and untouched. The rats got into a sheepskin clothing item and devoured it. after removing the food I will check back to make sure nothing else is damaged. I would move everything but I am unable to. read more

I have had quite an experience at this place, initially I was frustrated because someone else set up the storage for me and it took way too long for them to transfer into my name- this meant that I was often locked out because of tight security- which is good but not in this case- I don't want to go on about that because the issue was solved and although it took too long, I am totally over it because of my current experience being worthy of 5 stars! I have been working with Elisabeth, she is an extremely motivated, positive person who doesn't hate her job and actually wants you to save money as well as get the most out of your storage space. I am taking the time to write this review because Elisabeth has gone above and beyond to accommodate my needs during this tough time when I've needed to move into a new larger unit. She was amazing! For the most pasrt, this storage space serve me adaquately for the past year. I felt safe whenever I was in my inside unit, even when I was alone. However, I have had a couple interactions with Elizabeth, in the front office that were not good. I made several request about replacing burned out bulbs and was told by at first that they are checked regularlyt and replaced and that I could borrow a flashlight if needed. When I returned many weeks later the light was still burned out so I asked for a flashlight and was told there were none--that people borrowing them had not returned them. One would think that would have been easy to remedy. Upon returning a couple weeks later the light was still not fixed. I had to resort to my camera flashlight. I was told there was only one person on site and that they were not allowed to go up on ladders, alone. Understandable, but for months?!!! I asked who I could voice my concerns to as I was working in the dark. She said she was the manager and she wouldn't give me anymore information. She said to write a Google review! Today when calling about the move out procedure I got Elizabeth on the phone. She barreled ahead with her script and when I tried to ask a confirming question, she was rude and said she would not have me yelling at her. I calmly told her I was trying to confirm that she did not need anything in writing or in person and wanted to know about a possible proration. She yelled that I wasn't getting a refund and then hung up! Given that I had several bad interactions with her over many months, I would guess this is the norm with her. I refrained from giving it a lower rating because other than my interactions with Elizabeth, everything was fine. read more

I have been a customer of Extra Space for years. Sadly when we moved to Santa Rosa to this Facility we discovered a serious rat problem. Days after moving items in we discovered rats. Large rat nests. Three of them with lots of droppings. We noticed the unit next to us was filthy. We notified the manager and she swept it up but without any comment about their rat abatement plans. We called the manager and was told "sorry". We moved. There is no way they will keep our unit rat free We found another storage place. Much cleaner and with a better approach to keeping rats out. read more

Just to let you know there are more pictures absolutely devastated my property is completely damaged soiled and not replaceable. The point I'm trying to make is they knew about this problem because it's on social media yelp! if you read the reviews it's not just me it's many others and on top of it when I was leaving the facility there was a man with a 100-year-old saddle that he brought to the storage facility in a climate controlled unit storage. I move from LA to Santa Rosa. I contacted extra space storage on Hearn in Santa Rosa CA for my storage needs. Once I arrive to the facility the Manager hears my dogs barking which are inside my car with the window slightly open. She informs me that dogs are not permitted inside the storage which I replied to her, my dogs are inside my car and are not getting out or going inside storage units. I did not see any sign about the dogs anywhere so how was I supposed to know. The Manager gets upset because I responde back, and starts belittling me, saying that all I had to say was ok and she is now refusing service to me. I asked to speak with someone else in charge, or a corporate number which she says, I'm the manager and extra space storage allows me to do what ever I want. I was trying to call another extra space storage and accidentally called the same one and hanged up thinking it was the same rude manager and was trying to avoid another altercation. Then the Manager Bridget takes it personally and calls the extra space storage on Roseland Ave and blacklist me, when I didn't even know it was her. Instead of calling me back to ask why I hang up on her and to hear my story she takes it personally. This didn't have to happened if the first Manager on Hearn spoke to me with respect instead of belittling me. If you speak with aggression to me I will respond with aggression. Extra Space Storage should not treat there customers like this, they need to re-train the managers to have better customer services, to de-escalate situations like this. This is by far the worst customer service I ever received in my life. I do not recommend this place at all. read more

I had a small unit here for a few months, I got my rate on a special and it was a good deal. The facility was clean, we'll maintained and felt very secure. The young woman I dealt with in the office (who I believe is also who I spoke with on the phone a couple of times) was so friendly and helpful. I would not recommend using this company for any longer than 1-3 months. I opened an account with "ESS" about 3 years ago. The staff is helpful and friendly, however money talks here. I began with a 10'x15' that started about $190. It wasn't 8 weeks before they began hitting me with the increases. Fast forward a couple years, my bill is in excess of $300 per month... wages sure don't increase that quickly.. this company takes advantage of people in tight spots.. once they've rung you out, they auction your belongings off and put the space back up for rent. I have been here for several years for the commercial part of my business because it's convenient for frequent use to access my parts and supplies. But I'm going to leave immediately. Here's why, they use a 3rd party landscaping service and they blow dirt and grime under your door and it coats EVERYTHING inside your unit. Weekly cleaning of supplies and tub covers just means next week it will be bad again. Repeated complaints in person the the office has fallen on deaf ears. But the kicker is that now my shelves and boxes are collecting rodent feces. This was addressed with concern by the office. The manager did a cursory vacuuming for me and got my lock code so they could set traps with the promise they would check them daily or every other day. Guess what? No traps. I checked. More rat droppings and just as much dirt buildup INSIDE my unit. Unfortunately I cleaned a bit before I thought to make this review and take pictures. They will tell you its currently what the market will bear. I guess they think its the housing market and are unaware this is a storage facility and not housing. Half the time the electric gate isn't working the rest of the time seems pretty much anyone can drive in or out on your gate code since the gate takes a very long time to close behind you. $186 a month for a 10x10. I have never had to rent a storage facility but we are downsizing and closing one of our stores and needed some space to store our fixtures. I called Extra Space and they were very helpful on the phone I reserved the spot I wanted because there was only one left of the largest size. I went there the next morning and the service I received and information given was above and beyond what I would expect, it's just nice to get good service these days. I forgot the woman's name that helped Setha but both of them were very helpful and friendly, thanks again happy to do business with you. I believe any negative reviews given here are just people that don't live up to their end of the deal/contract which I did read all the way through and it was very comprehensive. I will recommend this storage facility to any one of my friends or customers. Oh also the facility was very clean and kept. Go there yourself and you will agree. "UPDATE" Also in reading the negative reviews they usually are about increases in fees. I was told going into the contract that they do make increases in their monthly charges. Unless you have enough money to prepay your unit DO NOT GET A STORAGE WITH THIS COMPANY!!!! I have been a loyal customer since 2002 & for the last two years I have been charged a lot of excessive fees, my rent keeps getting raised every 6 months. They won't refund fees that should NOT have been charged, they lock me out of my storage (when I have paid my bill) & then they "forget" to take their lock off. The old staff seems shady & the "computer" seems to be the company on site manager because that's their excuse for everything, they say "well the computer automatically does everything & we can't do anything about it"...never got a call back from the reginal mamager or who ever is suposed to be in charge. They don't fix problems they just take your money. They refused to take my late payment on the 27th of March last year (my rent is due on the 1st) & they told me that they would only take payment for March & April when it wasn't even April yet...so it took me a few more weeks to get both months rent...then they attached a lean fee of $80 & refused to refund it when the fee was assessed that same day I called to pay my bill...so I had to pay $100 of extra fees that should have never been assessed because they SHOULD have taken my payment on March 27th...No one onsite could do anything, they refused to give me any corporate phone number or even the name of the person. No one seemed to be "able" to do anything. Shortly after this incident they fired a lot of the old staff & hired new people. The new people are friendly but they have the same excesses for the recent problems I've been having. They don't have the authority to do anything & still waiting for the manager to call me back...it's been a few months... Same thing happened last month I was one month & 5 days late & they attached another lean fee & refused to take the fee off when I had the money to pay my rent!! I am working on getting a new storage facility I HATE THIS COMPANY!!!! No one on site can do anything other than open new accounts & tell you how much you owe...managers don't ever call back or help at all...& THE ON SITE MGR doesn't have the "authority" to do anything to solve any problems really. I have been happy with using Extra Space Storage for the last few years. Always clean, easy to locate a cart when needed and excellent customer service. What I don't like is the price increases that happen way to often. When I started storing my items there in 2011, I was paying $160 for a large unit that quickly went over $200. I went to smaller unit for $100, now a year later I am paying $160. This will be my final month storing my items there, my only complaint about it is the price increases that happen all to often. read more
