DO NOT RENT FROM THEM - Classic "Bait and Switch" scam. Having two kids in college, we have rented several storage units short term, and NEVER had a rate increase over the 4 to 8 month rental period. We rented a storage unit on 1/4/2024 for a monthly rate of $60.80 and told them that we would have the unit until at least September. Less than 90 days later (3/28/24) we received a notification that our rent was going to increase on 5/4/24 to $121.60. More than double. I contacted the rental office, and they were also surprised, stating "this is corporate billing" and "they usually do not increase the rent for at least 6 or 7 months". He said he would call corporate and request that it be reduced to the original rate for at least 3 more months. 4/4 - received a call back that they were able to get the rate reduced to $104 starting 5/4/24. My response was this is completely unacceptable and we will be moving our items out of the unit prior to 5/4. This is a complete scam and classic bait and switch. I could have rented from many other locations that had prices similar. Their current website states, $69 (10x10) for the month. The representative told me that would not apply to you, because you are already a customer. I will now need to rent another truck to move to a different storage unit, which is expensive and time consuming and had I known their business practices, we would never have rented from them. Their website has over 100 (5) star reviews. I tried to write my own review to make other potential customers aware, and their on-line support stated, "that you cannot post a review on our website, we pull reviews from various social media sites and share them on our website". For us, this has been a very costly mistake. Additionally, many individuals who need to rent a storage unit may not be in the best financial position. The good: Is it storage? Yes. Metal, doors slide up and down, you get a lock and keys, and there are usually push carts available. It is gated and the code usually works on the first try. The bad: Temperature controlled is construed liberally. It was COOLER outside when it was in the upper 80s. So not great when you are moving and already bound to get sweaty. The ugly: Even if you are in a hurry to store, do yourself a favor and do more research or get what you are expecting here in writing. Find a storage location where the rate you are QUOTED will be the rate you PAY. We rented here at $73/month, an amount they will later tell you is "promotional". This will be after unilaterally increasing your rate to nearly double after sending "notice" by snail mail (never received). Yes, customers expect rate increases. Yes, this typically is in excess of actual inflation. But taking advantage of a "rate increase" as a way to nearly DOUBLE the price is scandalous. Kevin Laskowski, the manager I spoke with, assured me that a refund of that non-noticed increase was "not possible." But he also says this is the typical practice across the country. As an interior designer who rents another unit and whose clients have also used them (plus one more for a charity for more than a decade), I can tell you that I've never seen a practice this slimy before. Note that when you vacate a unit you receive notification by text, so it is possible to give notice that someone might actually receive. But that is not what happens when they want to silently and exorbitantly increase the rate (and maybe hope you don't notice on your credit card bill). This company is a scam. They took over the Batavia, IL. location and it is still not listed on the internet. They have taken over multiple locations. I had a 10 x 10 unit in Batavia. I transfered my stuff to two 5x10 units. They signed me up at 50 per unit. One of my units has a bad latch and I have not been able to ger access to my unit in 2 months because they are backlogged on repairmen. They are are still charging me. Now they tell me I am now going to be charged $92 per unit this December. They tell me I had signed up for a temporary price. Never once did they tell me this and that I would have to pay double in two months. This company are scammers. Do not rent units with them. As soon as you put your stuff in they will double the price of your unit. I have registered my complaint with the BBB. Do NOT put your stuff at this corrupt company. Do not do business here! The staff is dishonest, the prices are higher than competition, and your money will be stolen. Highlights of my many year stay include consistent price hikes on units. Staff leaving a bucket full of crap and urine in the hallway outside my unit. Agreeing on a move out date but continuing to charge my credit card anyways. Stay away! read more

I came to this North Aurora location to take care of the rental paperwork and payment for a facility in Menlo Park, CA (where my child goes to school). Lauren was super helpful, very knowledgeable and the entire process was fast and efficient. The Menlo Park rep called in my info ahead of time. Overall both facilities provided excellent service. Kevin the store manager who in his own words "this is my location I do want I want and no one can do anything about it" is racist and discriminates against African Americans. Kevin is ride disrespectful and condescending. I have reported Kevin's repeated behaviors to corporate and spoken with the District Team Lead who stood behind Kevin's actions and stated that it was a corporate policy to harass customers. I'm uncomfor going to the storage unit during business hours without my husband because of Kevin's rude behavior. Tim the district manager has yet to call me back regarding Kevin's actions the last time I reported Kevin's rudeness and racism earlier this year in March corporates response was to move me to another storage location instead of addressing Kevin's behaviors I implore anyone looking for a unit to never do business with the company at any location if you are an African American you will not be treated fairly read more

Unsafe business lacking in proper security and safety measures. Upon arriving at my indoor unit for the first time, an intruder was inside my unit. I immediately went to my car and left. It became apparent that this type of incident is not new to this location. When you visit your assigned unit for the 1st time, it is tagged by management and your lock is left inside. The intruder easily removed the tag, did whatever there were doing inside, re-tagged the door and left. I am filing a complaint with local police and cancelled my space. read more

Friendly customer service. Renting was very easy, all taken care of in less than 30 minutes. I rented a 10x10 space for six months to store lawn furniture and bikes for the winter. Almost didn't rent from their one other review, but needed the free truck that they offer, so gave a shot. The price is cheaper than where my brother rents, and the staff has always been helpful. Completely terrible. My stuff got stinkbugs in it. They raised the rent three times in less then a year. When they mistakenly charged me for an extra month's rent after i moved out, they refused to refund my money, deapite it being their mistake. One of their employees is rude, condescending, and will just repeat the same useless information to you over and over. 0/10. read more

I do not recommend them!!! While at times they were cooperative, they told us that after the first two months since we had renter's insurance that we wouldn't have to pay for storage insurance. They said in order to get the special we did need to pay it pay it for the first 2 months, though. Then after they charged us for it for not just the first two months but for the entire 6 months, and I saw it on the final receipt and asked them to remove it, they refused. While they said they sent the receipt to me, I didn't receive the final bill until I requested it again when I had to submit it to my company for reimbursement. The manager (Jennifer) said that it had been a month since we had rented, and they couldn't remove the insurance charges. They also said we would have had to have proven we had renter's insurance, which we were never told or we would have shown proof. So we needlessly paid renter's insurance and storage insurance every month for 6 months. I my mind, if you overcharge me for something, you need to refund my money whether it's been 30 days or not. Our stuff also had animal pee on it when we got it back, I am assuming from Rodents. We didn't pay for climate controlled just regular. We also had previously referred a client to them initially. Some pay back! Pure robbery! They also increased the price after 5 months with no notification because "all storage places increase the price after 5 months." Buyer beware! There is deifinitely not enough consumerism in this business. I will make certain to tell everyone who asks me that I definitely don't recommend them. read more
